Will the real Lisa James please stand up.

Hot AZ It Gets has an update to this issue.

It may be just fine if Lisa is nominated in another district. As I understand it then the names are forwarded to the county statutory meeting for election of state committeemen.

Lisa James.jpg   So Lisa James wants to run for Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party. Fair enough but according to Phil at Hot AZ It Gets she needs to brush up on her knowledge of the state bylaws. Phil claims that she has made it onto the list of District 20 state committeemen. But according to this link at d8azgop.com she is an alternate from District 8. Which is she, an alternate from LD 8 or a state committeeman from LD 20?

Please excuse my being from Pima County and not knowing the ins and outs of Maricopa party politics. It is possible that there are two different people named Lisa James that are both planning on going to the state meeting? Please feel free to add any knowledge you have of the situation in the comments section.

Speaking of comments we do moderate them from new participants but only as a way of filtering spam. So let us know what you think and we will get it on the blog as soon as possible.

Hot AZ It Gets has an update to their original story on Lisa James.

  1. Political Factoid: Lisa James resides in the same precinct neighborhood (Cocopah) as Len Munsil, Colette Rosati, Keith DeGreen and Luis Gonzales which is located in LD8.

  2. Oro Valley Dad says

I wonder if they will all carpool to the state meeting?

  3. Oro Valley Dad says

I’m not sure all that big money got us very far in the recent election. The best way to win is with solid candidates that are a good fit for their respective districts. The party should stay lean with a strong grassroots network.

  4. Do I detect some relativism? How does a district elect both Michele Reagan and Colette Rosati? Twice? I don’t have the answer, but I’m skeptical of those who claim they do.

  5. Honest Abe says

    Honest Abe Says:
Conventional wisdom would have you believe that Haney had the support of the majority of LD11 elected precinct committeemen to achieve his re-election bid. Certainly the votes reflect that theory, but then again, maybe not .Through exhaustive research I have uncovered the genuine, intellectual prowess of the newly crowned “King”. Perhaps, the most befitting title would be of course, ” King Haney”, since he presides over a kingdom of Haneyites. King Haney, by his own admission, has single handedly recruited more than 400 Precint Committeemen in LD11. This would be considered a remarkable achievement in its own right, yet for King Haney, pursued for a dubious outcome.

You see, King Haney denuded the vulnerabilities of LD11’s ByLaws, which permits for the chairman to carry the Proxy vote of each and every precinct committeemen he recruited. Thus, allowing the King to converge upon his personally selected Kingdom of followers, obtaining their proxy vote, to be cast in any way he personally deemed necessary to
acheive a predictable outcome. King Haney essentially crowned himself in this election by voting a number of proxy votes that outnumbered his rival by more than three to one.

The victory was a forgone conclusion evidenced by the speech Haney recited prior to the ballots even being cast Tuesday night.

In the Kingdom of Haney we see mostly court Jesters, and the King has no clothes.

    Honest Abe

  6. Oro Valley Dad says

The Chairman of LD 11 is in fact wearing clothes and will be going to the state convention along with 132 delegates from the district, thank you very much.

Maybe if Fife really wants to run LD 11 and is such a grassroots guy he should pound the pavement and recruit a few 100 PC’s himself.

  7. Honest Abe says

No clothes, he is exposed , you will see the results unfold tomorrow beginning with one of his primary Jesters.

  8. Oro Valley Dad says

I look forward to the story. Will it be on another blog, in the papers, or in the comment section of this blog?

  9. So, in the midst of all the self-congratulation and general glee over running off the GOP moderates and McCain supporters, has anyone thought about who’s going to provide the funding to keep the Arizona Republican party running?

They will need a lot more than Mr. DSW was able to raise at Arizona Right to Life and you’ve just driven away a lot of big contributors.

So good luck with that, unless everyone is planning to work for free.

  10. Sonoran Truth Squad says

If Pullen is elected, then fundraising isn’t such an issue. Having already worked with the major donors for the last couple of years, he already has better knowledge of them and better relationships with them than Lisa James would. She was working on “turnout” which doesn’t begin to touch donors. The Party’s major donors know that Pullen isn’t some wild-eyed maniac and they will stay with the Party.

I wonder if Honest “V is for Vendetta” Abe has any more predictions of rough, tough consequences for any supporters of Haney?

  11. While conservatives have the grassroots and moderates may have the money (although I’d like to see the demographics on that), this is the GOP’s biggest internal issue. Those who can sit down at the table and negotiate the subtle points but keep the essentials, will be the most successful. With the exception of John McCain and Jim Kolbe, our entire congressional delegation has been able to do that.

I’m not sure what “Mr. DSW” has to do with this posting but Mr. DSW will be glad to inform you that he actually tripled the AZRTL budget in the first 3 years of his directorship with AZRTL (2000-2003). You can attribute the remaining three years of budgetary issues to the board of directors.

  12. Honest Abe says

I’m not a prophet, nor do i seek revenge on anyone. Read….today, a top Haneyite is rendered futile. Many in LD11 have a disdain for the Haney Kingdom, efforts have been under way to correct this imbalance, this should come as no surprise to you. Unless, of course, you are obtuse.

  13. Oro Valley Dad says

Regarding “Read… , today, a top Haneyite is rendered futile.” Please enlighten us, Read where?

  14. By the way there are 378 PC’s in LD ll, not 400 and all aren’t people recruitted by Haney, so let’s stop giving him credit for that. There are 170 who weren’t and don’t agree with him. Just b/c he won the election means he has support from those he recruitted. Big Deal! Wow, people you asked to be PC’s support you…well not all of them b/c he asked me and I don’t support him!

His outgoign chair Hesselbrock couldn’t get elected in that District, you think he can go any where but where he is. I’d love to see him get in open water…lol! Not to mention his 1st Vice Chair is pro choice, so really he doesn’t have a Pro Life agenda if he ordains those who don’t support his own beliefs. Way to go Haney! He cares more about Power amoung PC’s (by the way must people don’t even know what a PC is) then he does about Conservative Principals!

  15. Sonoran Truth Squad says

LD11 PC sounds just a wee bit bitter… Yikes… The 300+ PC figure for Haney is over a period of several years, not all right now. Nobody likes a bad loser…

  16. James L. Choad says

LD11PC, I’m not really sure if you’re familiar with the “spell checker” function on your computer, but you might want to employ it as well as a copy of “Strunk and White’s Standard English Usage”, because I’ve read and reread your posting and I still don’t really understand it. For all the talk of reforming education and “English only” bloviating, there are quite a few Republicans among us who seem to be barely able to put a noun and a verb together. And, Strider, if you’re out there reading this, you might want to have someone copy edit your “Town Crier” thing before you send it out to the whole universe, because it is barely literate.

As for Randy Pullen, my prediction is that this party will be broke within 1 year if he becomes state party chair. His efforts so far have all been total failures: 1. His run for Phoenix mayor was pathetic (look at how he got some Phoenix cops in trouble in a campaign brochure), 2. The 65% Initiative that he started with great fanfare went absolutely nowhere. And before you mention prop 200, I think you can point to Randy Graf and Russell Pierce as well as ton of other people who were responsible for that initiative . I am pro-life and I find Randy Pullen to be a snake oil salesman who was pro-abortion until he decided he wanted to become important in the Republican Party (sort of like Don Goldwater). He is trying to prime himself for a run for governor or U.S. Senate four years from now. Len Munsil is not exactly a good choice either. State Chair should not become a consolation prize for losers (yeah, we’re looking your way, Howard Dean).

Lisa James is smart. She ran the Bush campaigns and was instrumental in ensuring a Kyl victory in Arizona–one of the few successes this last cycle.

As for thinning the herd of our party and getting rid of moderates–go ahead, but you only need to look at the example of California to see how that turned out. Only one state-wide elected official there and he won’t even admit he’s a Republican anymore.

There are a lot of people who seem to think the state party exists to exert party discipline on candidates. It doesn’t. It exists to get out the Republican vote and get Republicans elected. That’s it. How do we determine who those candidates are? They’re called primaries.

As for Haney you only need to look at the most recent elections to see how effective he’s been. All of those new PCs he recruited and what did he do with them? While he was busy censuring McCain, the democrats were getting their guy elected in his district. What were those PCs doing? Nothing. For all the big talk among activists in our party there does not seem to be any actual activity. We seem to be more interested in purging our party than beating democrats. We need to talk and debate less and work more. We got our butts kicked in this last election. I don’t want to hear that it was a national phenomenon either. Janet did not get to where she is now by because of national politics. We allowed her to because we are divided.

  17. Oro Valley Dad says

While LD11PC is using his spell checker and reading Strunk and White maybe you could read up on logic.

I follow most of your reasoning unit the last paragraph. How is it that Lisa James is responsible for the Kyl victory but Haney is responsible for a loss to a democrat? Didn’t LD 11 also help to put Kyl over the top? Lisa lists on her biography that she served as the Arizona Republican Party Victory 2006 Director. Why don’t you hang the loss of J.D., Graf, Munsil, LD 26, LD 11, LD 24, etc. on her? Or is she only responsible for successes and Haney is only responsible for failure?

What about the Chairman of LD 26? He has recruited almost NO PC’s and never causes any intra-party controversy. Is he also responsible for the loss of a house and senate seat in a strong GOP district? Or are conservatives only accountable in your world? How about all the losses in LD 24? Did it ever occur to you that it was a bad year for Republican’s and that Rob Haney did not cause the loss of one house seat in LD 11? And if he is responsible then a lot of other people should be as well, moderate party insiders and conservatives alike.

I think Matt Salmon should share in some of the blame if you are going to hold people accountable. I don’t know how much Lisa James worked on the get out the vote, 72 hour, and operation groundswell projects but they sucked. Most of the efforts were un-targeted and amounted to simple harassment of Republican voters with redundant phone calls. That will work once or twice but after a while people will leave the party just to get away from all the phone calls.

If you want to blame people then spread it around where it belongs and don’t pin it on just one person.

  18. Sonoran Truth Squad says

LD11 folks who hated Haney also targeted Hesselbrock because he supported Haney. Seems their wrath was not limited to just Haney alone. Hypocritical of them to target Hesselbrock for being close to Haney, then use his defeat to go after Haney.
