  1. Mike Triggs says

Sean – It was strange that Human Events would only list Democrats in their list of sex scandals. Some members of our party also come to mind are:

Congressman Bob Barr (R-GA) licked whipped cream off the chests of “two buxom women” during a Leukemia Society charity event.

Congressman Robert Bauman (R-MD), was charged with having sex with a 16-year-old boy he picked up at a gay bar.

Mike Bowers, former Georgia State Attorney General, who prosecuted the famous Bowers vs. Hardwick case, based on Georgia anti-sodomy laws, admitted to a 10-year adulterous affair. (However, I am sure Bowers never committed sodomy).

Congressman Ken Calvert, (R-Ca), champion of the Christian Coalition and its “family values.” Sued as an alimony deadbeat by his ex-wife in 1993 he was caught by police receiving oral sex from a prostitute and attempted to flee the scene.

Congresswoman Helen Chenoweth, (R-ID). In 1995, Chenoweth had denied having an affair when asked about it by The Spokane Spokesman-Review. In 1998 she called (in a campaign ad) for Bill Clinton’s resignation saying, “I believe that personal conduct and integrity do matter”. Days later she admitted to a six-year adulterous affair with a married associate. but now she claims a pardon from a higher authority: “I’ve asked for God’s forgiveness, and I’ve received it,” she revealed. She died in a car crash in Nevada this week.

Congressman Dan Crane, (R-IL) married, father of six, received a 100% “Morality Rating” from Christian Voice. Had sex with a minor working as a congressional page. The House voted censure Crane, the first time that censure had been imposed for sexual misconduct.

Jeff Gannon, Gay prostitute/blogger with no journalism credentials and a fake name was invited to President Bush’s press conferences.

Speaker Newt Gingrich, (R-GA) married three times. Gingrich campaign worker Anne Manning admitted that she gave Newt oral sex while he was still married to his first wife. Informed one wife he was filing for divorce while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer treatments.

Jon Grunseth, Republican candidate for Minnesota governor, withdrew his candidacy after allegations surfaced that he went swimming in the nude with four underage girls, including his daughter, and tried to grope one.

President Warren Harding (R-OH) presided over the scandalous, bribe-taking Teapot Dome scandal and had numerous extramarital affairs, including with Nan Britton, who was 31 years younger than him. In fact, Britton bore Harding a child one year before he won the presidency. President Harding and Britton had sex in White House closets, bathrooms, and offices, even as Harding’s wife, Florence, remained in other parts of the White House.

Congressman Jon Hinson (R-MS) resigned from Congress in 1981 after being arrested in a men’s restroom and charged with sodomy.

Senator Tim Hutchinson, (R-AR) divorced his wife of 29 years to marry a congressional aide he was having an affair with.

Senator Roger Jepsen (R-IA) was busted for paying for sex on his credit cards. The charges were for things like “Tow jobs” and “Engine Tune Ups.”

Speaker-Elect Bob Livingston, (R-LA) resigned from the House in the wake of revelations about his past adultery.

Congressman Donald Lukens, (R-OH), was found guilty of having sex with a minor – a girl he was accused of sleeping with since she was 13.

Bill O’Reilly Fox News talk show host was sued for sexual harassment by his producer.

Bob Packwood, Senator (R-OR), resigned in 1995 under a threat of public senate hearings related to 10 female ex-staffers accusing him of sexual harassment.

Vice-President Nelson Rockefeller died in 1979 at the age of 70 while allegedly having sex with Megan Marshak, his 27-year-old secretary.

Jack Ryan, 2004 Republican nominee for US Senate from Illinois, pressured his wife, actress Jeri Ryan, to have sex with other men. Tricked her into visiting sex clubs, where he asked her to have sex with him while others watched.

Congressman Ed Schrock, (R-VA) Withdrew his candidacy for a third term after tapes of him soliciting for gay sex were circulated.

Don Sherwood, (R-PA) Admitted to an affair with a woman 30 years younger than him, after she accused him of physical abuse and attempting to choke her.

Senator Strom Thurmond (R-SC) had sex with a 16-year-old African-American maid. The act wasn’t a crime back in the early 20th century, but it would be now.

Mayor Jim West (R-Spokane, WA) had a sexual affair with an 18-year-old boy.

I guess it just goes to show Democrats are not alone.

  2. Pearl Prynne says

    Mike,

Looks like you’ve been doing your homework. I for one agree with you. No person is immune from a sexual scandal – not even Catholic priests or reverends.

My question to you is what do you suggest we do about it?

Do we make every candidate pass a sex-scandal-free test before running for office?

Do we throw everyone out who has engaged in sexual impropriety?

Do we only get rid of those who engage in illegal sexual activities (ie. children, non-consensual, rape, harassment, etc?) and allow those with affairs and homosexual tendencies to remain?

It sounds like the Mike Triggs position is to dump those who engage in the illegal stuff and keep the philanderers and homosexuals. Am I correct?

Where do you draw the line? Instead of pointing the finger of hypocrisy, why don’t you come up with a real solution instead of playing the political loss-gain game?

  3. Mike Triggs says

Pearl – You asked: “What do I suggest that we do about it?”

Well, I know that many who post here on Sonoran Alliance are fond of hunting RINOS…perhaps we should do a little HIPPO hunting.

Perhaps we need to take a closer look at the candidates with the perfect hair, perfect teeth, trophy wives and gaggle of kids. Usually, the candidates and office holders that look too good to be true … turn out to be just that.

In my 25+ years of working in the political trenches it was usually the candidates who wore their religion on their sleeve, the ones who were first in line to cast stones or question the other guys morality who were harboring the worst secrets.

I have no trouble voting for someone who has a sexual orientation different than my own or a candidate who has made a mistake, had a divorce, gone through a bankruptcy, had pre-marital sex or conceived a child out of wedlock. The trouble I have is when that candidates is a hypocrite! And has no qualms about lying, covering-up the truth or blaming someone else when the truth finally comes to light.

The true HIPPOs are the candidates I have no trouble voting against.
