As alluded to in several comments, former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani may be mapping out a strategy to gather support on the right to life issue.
Catagorically, this does not make him pro-life.
If you listen to his comments, you’ll hear him say he’s “pro-choice,” hates abortion, wouldn’t advise a woman to get one, etc. At the same time you’ll hear him say that he would appoint justices like Scalia, Alito and Roberts.
Herein lies the Giuliani strategy on abortion: Say you’re pro-choice but promise to nominate pro-life justices.
But here’s the real stickler. John McCain will have a far more difficult time regaining conservative support because of his oppositionĀ to the Bush tax cuts, sponsorship of campaign finance reform and opposition to the marriage amendment.
As AZGOPInsider mentioned (below), this is going to make the Republican primaries very very interesting.
So there’s Mexico City and judges… What else can President’s do about abortion?
Hyde Amendment
Partial Birth Abortion Ban
Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act
Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act
Freedom of Choice Act (God forbid – codifies Roe v Wade – was pushed by Dems in 1993.
Freeedom of Access Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act (was passed under Clinton)
Destructive Embryonic Experimentation
Generally, lots of legislation that pro-abortion Dems and Republicans could pass in Congress in an effort to codify Roe v. Wade
Rudy opposes Partial Birth, and I’m not sure where he is on Hyde. Notification seems to be something he supports, based on his Hannity interview, but he’s still leaving me wanting!
