Shawnna Bolick Receives Endorsement from
Former Arizona Speaker Kirk Adams

Phoenix, AZ- April 28, 2014- Today, Shawnna Bolick, Republican candidate for Arizona House of Representatives in Legislative District 28, received the endorsement of former Arizona Speaker of the House, Kirk Adams.

“Shawnna exhibits all of the right qualities that encompass what a good public servant should possess: strong principles, a hearty work ethic and the ability to communicate with fellow travelers as well as her foes. Shawnna has been passionate about education reform long before she became a Mom. It is noteworthy that she wants each child regardless of zip code to have the opportunity to have the best education possible. Along her journey she has successfully reached across the aisle to promote school choice in this country even in Congressman Chuck Rangle’s congressional district.  She has what it takes to build relationships so Arizona’s future shines for years to come.”

“I am honored to have Speaker Adams’ endorsement,” stated Bolick.  “Kirk led Arizona to one of the largest permanent tax cuts in state history of which all of Arizona should be proud.  While serving Arizona, Kirk not only opted out of the elected officials retirement plan which I also intend to do, but he also authored initial steps in order to begin reforming public pension before it became a headlining issue to tackle.  Because of Kirk’s leadership Arizona was able to witness some much needed bold strokes in this arena and I hope to help further these necessary reforms.”

Shawnna Bolick has lived in Legislative District 28 for 13 years.  Shawnna and her husband, Clint, have two children, Ryne (12) and Kali (9), plus their six year old rescued greyhound, Beary Goldwater, living in the shadows of Squaw Peak.

Former Speaker & Republican Candidate Kirk Adams Endorses Salmon for CD-5 Election

Matt Salmon

Calls for others to unite behind Salmon’s bid to return to Congress

EAST VALLEY – Matt Salmon, former Congressman and Republican nominee for Arizona’s 5th congressional district, today proudly announced the endorsement of former Arizona Speaker of the House and CD-5 Republican primary candidate Kirk Adams. In a strong show of unity, Speaker Adams released the following statement:

“It was a close and vigorous primary campaign and the voters made their choice. That choice is Matt Salmon. He is now the only candidate in the race with the capacity to defend free enterprise from the attacks being waged by the Obama Administration. When it comes time to choose between free enterprise or big government, he will choose free enterprise. As I head to the polls this November, Matt Salmon will have my support, and I urge others to support him too.”

“I am grateful to receive the support from Speaker Kirk Adams,” stated former Congressman Salmon. “He is one of Arizona’s brightest leaders and has demonstrated his firm commitment to defending liberty and free enterprise at the state level. Throughout the primary election, we both campaigned on the message of fiscal responsibility and limited government. I look forward to working with leaders like Speaker Adams to return these principles to our government and get us back on the road to growth and prosperity.”

About Speaker Kirk Adams
Kirk Adams is a husband, father, and small business owner. He is a partner at the Adams Agency, which has been ranked the #1 insurance agency by Ranking Arizona. Adams is a lifelong resident of the East Valley. After joining the state House in 2006, he became so frustrated by the unwillingness and inability of Republicans in the Legislature to stand up for their conservative principles that he launched a long-shot campaign to oust the veteran Speaker of the House. Adams shocked the Republican establishment and political class, winning the Speakership at only 35 years of age. Adams turned the tide in the House and put Arizona back on the path to fiscal responsibility with an aggressive agenda of reform, courageously taking on some of the most challenging issues in Arizona.

About Matt Salmon
Matt Salmon was first elected to the United States Congress in 1994 and served until 2000, honoring his term limit pledge. Salmon was rated in the top five among all 535 members of the House and Senate by Citizen’s Against Government Waste for all six years he was in office. He is a lifetime member of the NRA with an A+ rating and also earned a 100% rating by the National Right to Life. He was also the proud recipient of the American Cancer Society’s “Top National Elected Official” award.

Sarah Palin endorses Kirk Adams for Congress in AZ-05

PHOENIX, ARIZONA – Today, Kirk Adams, Candidate for the U.S. House in Arizona’s 5th Congressional District announced that he has been endorsed by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Kirk Adams requested the endorsement and shared his beliefs, policy positions and his passion for the citizens of Arizona with Governor Palin.

Governor Palin responded today with a message to Adams

“If you believe strongly in the need to repeal Obamacare, I hope you’ll join me in supporting Kirk Adams for Congress in Arizona’s 5th Congressional District. Kirk is determined to repeal this mother of all unfunded mandates. And when he gets to Washington he won’t just “join the fight” to repeal Obamacare, he’ll help lead it.

As one of the youngest Speakers in the history of the Arizona House of Representatives, Kirk led the fight for less government spending, lower taxes, individual freedom, and limited government. As a small businessman, he knows firsthand that entrepreneurship and small businesses (which many of us built ourselves, Mr. President) are the job creating engine of our economy. Kirk is a proven advocate of removing the crushing burdens of excessive government regulation on our small businesses, and in Congress he will fight to put government back on our side and not in our way.

Kirk has been a steadfast supporter of sound immigration laws and was a leading defender of Arizona citizens as he used his platform to accurately describe this state’s predicament to the rest of America. He was the one who helped us all understand how dangerously misguided President Obama is on state’s rights and the rule of law! When President Obama called Arizona’s law “misguided” and then far removed politicians urged a “boycott” of Arizona, Kirk boldly stood up for his state! He became a loud and proud voice against the unsuccessful boycotts as he passionately wrote here:

His tireless efforts worked.

Please join me in supporting Kirk Adams for Congress today.

–Sarah Palin”

In response to this endorsement, Kirk said, “I am extremely grateful to receive the endorsement of Governor Sarah Palin. I sought her support because I believe that Governor Palin embodies the Washington outsider breaking down the doors of the power elite. Sarah Palin stood up and made a difference in her community and state because she realized she represented so many common sense Americans who were not being represented.

As I have encountered the arrogance of Washington in this race, I appreciate more than ever, people like Governor Palin who stand up for what they believe in despite being underestimated and ridiculed. I am proud to receive the endorsement of Governor Sarah Palin.”

Kirk Adams: Matt Salmon calls support for the Chicago Cubs a tax increase?

In a flailing attempt to discredit Kirk Adams’ sterling conservative record, Matt Salmon recently sent out a mail piece charging that a fee on baseball tickets was a tax increase.

Here’s the truth:

Tourism plays an important role in our economy, and Cactus League spring training baseball attracts thousands of visitors to Mesa every year. In 2010, Mesa Mayor Scott Smith asked the Arizona legislature to support the development of a new spring training stadium for the Chicago Cubs.

To ensure that Arizona taxpayers would NOT be forced to fund the stadium, the Mayor asked the legislature to create a fee on tickets so that baseball fans who chose to attend the games would pay for the costs.

The bill that Matt Salmon cited in his baseless attack, HB2736, protected Arizona taxpayers by ensuring that only stadium users paid for the Cactus League Development Fund which financed the project.

About the Salmon campaign’s obvious confusion on the issue, Kirk Adams said,

“Mayor Smith has a solid record and a bright future. I’m surprised that Matt Salmon would attempt to tarnish Mayor Smith’s record by accusing him of leading an effort to raise taxes.

But I’ll cut Matt some slack when it comes to his unfamiliarity with recent local issues in Mesa—after all, he’s been a Washington-based lobbyist for over a decade and Matt was home in D.C. during the time that Mayor Smith and I were working together on this important effort.”

The Facts:

    • HB2736 created the Cactus League Development Fund for the purpose of financing the development and renovation of baseball spring training facilities. Watch Mayor Smith’s eloquent explanation of the bill here at 1:31
    • To finance the Cactus League Development Fund, HB2736 enabled the collection of a surcharge on the price of admission to spring training baseball events.
    • HB2736 did not increase taxes.
    • The Arizona constitution requires a 2/3 vote by the legislature to increase taxes. Any legislation that increases taxes or state revenues must meet this threshold. HB2736 did not trigger this requirement because it was not a tax increase.

Did Matt Salmon lobby for pork?

We know Matt Salmon lobbied for Obamacare, but did Matt Salmon also lobby for pork?

Matt Salmon continues to leave many unanswered questions about his role in lobbying for “access to and coverage of specialty pharmaceuticals” in Obamacare. Mr. Salmon lobbied on behalf of two multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies that are members of PhRMA, a group that spent $150 million to help pass Obamacare. These two companies were loyal clients of Mr. Salmon’s, following him from Policy Impact Communications to Upstream Consulting the lobbying firm that Mr. Salmon founded.

Now we learn that during this same time, Matt Salmon entered into a $300,000 lobbying contract to bring pork barrel stimulus money to the city of El Mirage. At a town hall meeting the Mayor of El Mirage explained to residents why the city hired lobbyist Matt Salmon, “$300,000 is also a drop in the bucket compared to the stimulus funds that other cities…receive. The reason they receive that money is because every other city has a lobbyist firm…has representatives that work for them at the state and at the federal level getting money to bring back to their city…we all hear of them as pet projects, those sorts of things.”

Matt Salmon’s lobbying firm was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to lobby for Obamacare. As an opportunist, Matt Salmon wanted to get his piece of the federal healthcare pie.

Congressional Candidate Kirk Adams Speaks at Politics on the Rocks

In this video (courtesy Western Free Press) Republican Kirk Adams, US House Rep. Candidate for (the new) Arizona Congressional District 5, addresses the Politics on the Rocks crowd at The Mint, in Scottsdale, on May 30, 2012. News Flash: Matt Salmon admits he is a lobbyist! (finally)

Matt Salmon recently sent out a email claiming distortions and lies by the Adams campaign.

Our campaign’s research on lobbyist Matt Salmon’s career over the past 10 years revealed that he moved to the D.C. suburbs in Virginia, set up shop as a lobbyist, made millions and donated money to democrats–these facts are not disputed by Salmon’s campaign.

One source showed that Salmon was the treasurer of Comptel’s lobbying PAC when it contributed $2,000 to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Unfortunately, that source was misleading. As soon as we discovered the error, the video was pulled from our campaign YouTube account. Mistake made. Lesson learned. We have recommitted our campaign to exhaustively researching every source, because the voters deserve a debate based on facts — and only the facts.

It is clear that the facts show Mr. Salmon is just a run of the mill lobbyist, seeking special interest influence. While one source had it wrong, all of the evidence clearly proves the underlying point: Matt Salmon is a Washington lobbyist with a record of seeking influence from Democrats.

What’s more, Mr. Salmon seems to have put his lobbying career ahead of his conservative principles. While he had a conservative record when he served in Congress back in the 1990’s, his record in the decade since he left the House tells another story. When Matt Salmon was President of Comptel, the Comptel PAC donated to liberal democrats like Henry Waxman and Ed Markey. And, Salmon personally contributed to liberals like Ed Pastor and Joe Baca as recently as the 2010 election. These are the facts, and they are not in dispute.

So far in this campaign, Salmon’s tried to pretend the past ten years never happened.

Mr. Salmon has also realized that he cannot run from the facts. He has finally admitted that he was a Washington lobbyist and democratic campaign donor.

The momentum is on our side because voters are tired of the Washington revolving door and the leveraging of public office into lucrative lobbying careers. They deserve to know the full record of his experience as a high-priced lobbyist.

In a recent poll commissioned by our campaign, 80% of voters said they would be less likely to vote for Salmon knowing that he spent time as a Washington lobbyist. This poll was conducted by the well respected Tarrance Group, whose president helped to pass the American Association of Political Consultants’ resolution against push polls. Salmon’s claim that the Tarrance group conducted a push poll is without merit or evidence and should be retracted. The question fairly asked voters a question they will surely ask themselves on election day: do we really want to send another special interest lobbyist to Washington?
