FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(PHOENIX, AZ) February 4, 2010 – Republican Gubernatorial candidate John Munger released the following statement:
“Ignoring the basic laws of economics, the Arizona Legislature has referred Governor Brewer’s sales tax increase to the May ballot in a misguided effort to solve our State’s fiscal problems. Fortunately, the voters will have a chance to stop this madness from becoming reality.”
“Raising taxes will kill thousands of jobs at a time when we need them most. Another tax increase will also help ensure that Arizona remains one of the least competitive places to do business. With real leadership, we could be using this crisis to reset our budgetary priorities, restart our economic engine and reduce the size of our government to one we can afford.”

let’s spell check our press releases before we send them out. I don’t need more “innformation”
Thank you Squid-do.
Squid-do
Does that mean you agree with everything else in the post and are seeking perfection? If that is your biggest problem, get a life.
Munger hasn’t got a snowball’s chance, but he’s right on this issue. Now is the WORST time to raise taxes and Brewer just isn’t creative enough to come up with a budget solution that doesn’t raise taxes. She’s as tired and old as her ideas. The budget CAN be balanced without a tax increase.
I hope those Republicans that voted to send this tax increase to the ballot are singled out for special attention in the August primaries.
Get good conservatives to run against them. I’m working at it so that I don’t get stuck with having no option in the primary other than my current state house RINO.
Munger has NO idea of how big the problem are that state is now faces.
The current cuts are over a billion dollars and still not enough. The stimulus money the President sent is all gone and now the state has borrowed over $2 billion without any way to pay it back. This is in addition to the $1.5 billion they have borrowed and are paying INTEREST of $200 million a year (no principal payment) for 20 years.
If you shut down ASU, U of A & NAU, closed all community colleges, cut K to 12 education by 25%, closed DPS you will still be short about $2 billion in the next year’s budget.
And send an election message to those Goppers in the Legislature who took a “no new taxes pledge” but signed off on this garbage!
Of course they’ll be running this year on “small government”
Let’s hope the “boobs” n’ “rubes” wake up!
But don’t hold your breath!
Real spending per student on k-12 is up 250% since 1970. For that we get what? Kids that score the same on standardized tests today as they did in 1970. NO PROGRESS at two anda half time the cost. That tells me if we spent 40% of what we do today on k-12 per student on the same things we did in 1970 there would be no change in the outcome, how well the student is educated. K-12 funding is way too high.
Secondly, crimial aliens cost the sate $2B per year. That includes education, heathcare, illegally obtained benefits and incarseration. There is so much fat in the state’s bloated 4
I hate it when I hit the wrong key and get a partial posting. To continue:
There is soo much fat and waste in the state’s $12B bloated budget it is not even funny. The legislature and governor should be attacking it with a chainsaw for a paring knife. Instead we get people without the backbone to do what needs to be done and have the state live within the people’s means.
