  1. Glad to see you guys take time out on Memorial Day to attack Sen. McCain!

Just FYI, JD Hayworth wasn’t there either.

  2. And where was JD??

Oh, right. He was in Washington, DC.

Just where you’d expect to find a narcissistic, pork-loving ex-congressman.

Don’t come back, JD – Arizonans fired you for a reason.

  3. Brian,

The Arizona Tea Party Movement put this out – NOT the JD Hayworth 2010 campaign committee.

JD Hayworth had a strong presence at the event and sent his regrets that he could not make it. At the time, he was on a plane to the studios of Meet the Press to debate Rep. Luis Gutierrez on the issue or immigration and border security.

The Democrats were willing to debate him unlike your boss John McCain who is running from a debate. You know, the same John McCain who loves to quote “A fight not enjoined is a fight not enjoyed.” John McCain can’t seem to live up to the challenge that he so arrogantly professes.

The Arizona Tea Party Movement has turned its back on John McCain (despite every effort by McCain to use Sarah Palin to fool the movement over.)

This is nothing new. John McCain cringes at associating with grassroots organizations treating them like “freaks.” When was the last time he attended a pro-life or conservative organization’s event? His wife and daughter go public with the pro-homosexual, hate traditional marriage crowd and he avoids the cultural conservatives like a plague. No wonder he would never show up at a Tea Party gathering unless he was using Sarah Palin as a human shield.

I can speak from personal experience because I have watched him for 20 years treat us this way.

So it doesn’t surprise me that John McCain will avoid the Tea Party, cultural conservative, grassroots movements. His advisors are probably reinforcing the decision to stay away. You would know having worked on the liberal side of the aisle.

  4. Reality,

It was pretty clear (in the video) that John McCain chose to go to the Suns game rather than show his support for SB 1070 and the buycott. Both JD Hayworth and Jim Deakin had booths there. And let’s not forget that John McCain also avoided the Tax Day Tea Party event.

  5. I find it telling how the McCain staffers like Brian Rogers will say things that aren’t even honest to defend McCain. Guess using dishonesty is the only way they’d have a chance to win.

  6. Given that John McCain IS one of TWO current AZ senators and that AZ is being attacked and demonized by the Democratic Party from OBama down thru the Democratic Party office holders in several states, PLUS the Attorney General AND the Homeland Security chief; McCain, as a REPUBLICAN and a SENATOR REPRESENTING the PEOPLE of Arizona, would have been very correct for him to show SOLIDARITY and ENCOURAGEMENTS in a public expression of support for Arixona LAWS, Arizona duly elected officials, like the Governor and Sheriff Arpaio, Arizona Law enforcement which is being attacked and denigrated, ARizona rule of law, and Arizona as a state that is dealing with serious internationally-driven issues.

It would have been more appropriate for McCain the SENATOR to show up than JD Hayworth, the CANDIDATE.
    AWOL.

  7. What’s amazing is how a handful of people will say anything, spin everything, to defeat a sitting Republican senator in order to replace him with a clown that LOST his safe-GOP congressional seat – a clown who this very day couldn’t even win that seat back if he tried.

I choose to support Republicans in 2010 – not defeat them.

  8. This is the U.S. of A. We do not have command performances in this country. We don’t have a king or queen here. No one has to go to anything they don’t want to go to. If McCain wanted to see the Suns, and the rest of you don’t like it, tough. You’re not going to vote for him anyways. And don’t accuse me of being in the McCain Camp. I’m not. But I’m not in J.D.’s either. There’s still some convincing for the candidates to do until July 29th. Stupid stuff like this isn’t going to win anyone any votes.

  9. Hello James,
Sen. McCain can go anywhere he wants. It just tells the Arizona voters what they need to know when he makes bad choices.

    …………

Yeah, no one has to go to anything if they don’t want to go, IF one is self-centered. Paid by the US taxpayer Obama didn’t want to go to ARlington National Cemetary for Memorial Day, a venue and ceremonial duty of the level of the POTUS, the Commander-In-Chief of the United States military. Instead, valuing his personal CHicago time MORE than his JOB as POTUS to the American People, so he picked a COVER and went to an lesser venue Illinois Cemetary instead, so he wouldn’t be so inconvenienced in pursuing his personal agenda. He made a decision based on what HE wanted, NOT the American People.
His dodge is pathetically obvious and shows to the nation he cares more about his personal desires than displaying any sort of leadership to the People or the ultimate sacrifices made by brave men and women of the US Military, who did THEIR duty and served, both veterans and fallen.

Likewise, McCain is indeed FREE to make CHOICES. But, if he don’t care to make an effort even though he is PAID by the US taxpayer to represent AZ, why should he or anyone be surprised that we won’t care to flip the lever for HIM?

  11. Really wanumba? Really? You do realize every recent President, besides Bill Clinton, has chosen at times to commemorate Memorial Day somewhere else besides Arlington.

I’ll tell you why neither JD nor McCain showed up at the event – both want to exploit the anger being whipped up about illegal immigration but neither wants to be too closely associated with SOME of the elements active in the movement. This is also the reason JD is ditching the June 5th rally as well. Maybe the pro-SB1070 activists might want to try a little harder to keep out National Socialists and neo-confederates, then maybe Senate candidates might show up.

  12. Wanumba,

There’s no comparison. Obama is President of the United States. He should be at Arlington on Memorial Day, or at some other National Cemetery. Arlington is not the only one. For example, we have a very fine one here off of Cave Creek Road.

McCain had no obligation to go to that event. If he wanted to do something else on a Saturday afternoon/evening, that’s his business.

  13. Take note reasonable people: The “Arizona Tea Party Movement” put a hit piece on McCain on a Hayworth blog.

A movement about taxes is endorsing a pork-barrel king over a principled earmark fighter. Ask yourself why…

Take note when you give money, take note when you hear an endorsment, take note when you give them power…

  14. James Davidson
Just for the record. Abraham Lincoln cemetery is a national cemetery. Also, George H. W. Bush spent all four of his memorial days in Kennebunkport. It seems to me this issue is entirely made up to generate outrage. Do you agree?

    ………..

I agree. They can whatever. But every decision like that has consequences.
Arizona is under attack from the Democratic-controlled ADministration and the Democratic Party, McCain could show leadership by attending an event that is important to citizens or he can blow it off and tend to his personal pleasures.

AMerica is looking for mature leadership and some presidential behavior from Obama and he’s running off. Being at Arlington and acting like it was important would have gone over better than skipping out Memorial weekend. Are the people of Louisiana enjoying THEIR Memorial weekend? The fisheries sector watching their livelihood be destroyed? McCain showed up for a ball game, but can’t show up for a grassroots outpouring of concern about the state of the State?

Yeh, they CAN do whatever, but politically are those decisions wise ones?

  16. Giving credit where credit is due – Bill Montgomery was the only County Attorney candidate on hand with a booth and he was all the over the place meeting and talking with people.

    …….

That is apparently the current talking point to spread around. George HW served in the military and displayed copious genuine respect for the military without prompting and scripting required. The other George W, also served and displayed copious genuine respect for the military. Obama never served, but worse doesn’t display any desire even to comprehend anything about the military, it’s correct purproses, the sacrifices of the men and women and their familes … nothing.

SO, given that maybe he’s not being hypocritical by pretending to care at Arlington.

He didn’t even hang around to pick up his speech at Abraham Lincoln Cemetary when the storm quit. “Screw this” and decided he had enough, leaving the spectators to emrge from various shelters to mutter, “WTF?”

    Leadership, leadership. Lack of.

  18. Todd,

    It depends.

If a President were to say, for example, I will spend my four years celebrating the fallen at national cemeteries around America, in addition to Arlington, and did so to show respect for those who rarely get presidential attention, it would be one thing. I would applaud that.

If, however, it is an afterthought appendage to a vacation, it would be insincere and bordering on the disrespectful.

For this president, I am suspicious. There already is a cloud over him regarding whether his appearance at Dover Air Base was to honor the fallen or was a photo op or both.

  19. How low can you go? Really…?

And JD, lover of all things pork, gets a pass? He should be the poster boy for the Tea Party…of what NOT to do in Congress!

Wake up folks…you are being conned by a slick-talker who lost his job once and has since refined his message and is peddling his wares once again.

    The real JD….

Voted for 6,371 earmarks worth over $24 BILLION in 2005 alone! No wonder he was un-elected!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uO9gv4Xr8Rc&feature=player_embedded

The Arizona Tea Party Movement supports this guy? If so, the big story here is not that McCain went to a basketball game but that The Arizona Tea Party Movement supports the biggest Republican pork-barrel spender ever from this state!

  20. Ann,

Are you forgetting the $150B in ear mark pork that McCain voted to pass with TARP or is this just amnesia?

  21. wanumba ,
So in other words, appearing at Arlington is only a duty for POTUSs you a politically opposed to. Got it.

  22. James Davidson,
I don’t know what motivations he has but questioning those seems different to me than claiming some duty to appear at Arlington every year that does not seem to be based on any historical precedent.

There are quite substantive criticisms of Obama that can be made, but hearing these faux outrages (OMG! He is not wearing a tie in the oval office) reads to me like people who aren’t interested in substance.

  23. If J.D. is a pork lover how did he accumulate an overall conservative voting record of 98% compared to McCain’s 80%

Where was McCain on the pork ridden T.A.R.P.?

He not only voted for it but twisted arms in the Senate for a week to get it passed on the second try. And this while running for President on a platform of “small government”!

His support for the rule of law regarding immigration is strictly an elections year conversion. Let’s hope and pray it’s a deathbed one!

Spector and Bennett deserve a traveling companion!

McCain has as much love for his constituents as he did for the M.I.A.s!

  24. Jack,
About the conservative rating, as has been pointed out endlessly on this sight, endorsements don’t mean anything…

    …………

Really? You must speak a different language than me.

  26. I noticed the eerie resemblance to Obama squatting over the sand to mush about tar balls and Bill CLinton squatting at Normandy rearranging random rocks.
Not a rock on that beach – the staffers had to collect them for a photo op to make CLinton look “pensive.” BP trucks in 400 workers to scour the beach minutes before Obama shows up. Au natural.
Now we have “pensive” Obama peering at the sand in Losuisiana. Like what’s to see? He fly all the way from Chicago to look at sand? Oh! Hey a piece of seaweed!

What IS it with the Democratic Party obsession with celebrity? POTUS ain’t GOOD enough? Need to be a film star? A model?

WHat Americans WANT is a POTUS who is getting the bureaucracy off its collective butt, getting permits approved, MOVE the damn booms off shore!
“Retrospective” and “pensive” in front of a dozen cameras is narcissism, NOT leadership.

  27. “Really? You must speak a different language than me.”

Well that is the only rational conclusion I can reach when you claim Obama is required to go to Arlington every year because he hasn’t served in the military but George H Bush gets a pass because he has ‘genuine respect for the military.’ Now we certainly know the latter isn’t true since sending our soldiers to die and kill in a senseless war , based on lies, with no plan and an occupation lead by political hacks clearly demonstrates a complete lack of respect for our military.

  28. wanumba,
See, this is where you go down the wrong track. Of course most Presidential appearances are staged photo ops – but you think it applies just to Democrats when it clearly doesn’t. I mean, Reagan was the pro at these things.

    ……….

Reagan actually got things done. He was actually the chief executive of California before becoming POTUS, so he had experience with executive actions, responsibility. Obama has never been in an executive position before POTUS. Like learning the dog paddle and then swimming to Gibralta. He brought NO qualifications to the POTUS job. NOw it’s showing. What has Obama done to get all resources on the oil problem? Who knows? He flitted back to CHicago.

  31. Stephen, the pork you are suggesting McCain voted for on TARP was paid back, the real PORK the PORK that annoys tax payers, that annoys the voters is the pork that JD votes for, the pork that is wasteful, that may as well be burned because it does very little for anyone but a select few. JD is beyond unethical, he is just a blowhard who does not deserve to go back to Congress. I vote AGAINST JD!

  32. wanumba. I’ll try to make this simple. In #27 you excuse both Bushes for imperfect attendance at Arlington because both served in the military. You then complain about Obama not serving. My interpretation is based on that.

  33. JD loves the pork every which way he can get it. If it pads his pockets in the long run than he’s for it.

  34. I was sitting right by Senator McCain and I loved the fact that he shared in such a commuinty experiance with us. We all love our suns.

  35. Snyder,

The $150B of pork/earmarks in TARP has nothing to do with the money used for the bailouts. Pork does not get paid back. No matter how you spin it McPork set an all time record for dashing back to DC and in a single bill eclipsed all prior pork/earmark records.

I would not throw around ethics charges with McCain being one of the Keating Five as it only makes you and yoru candidate look like fools.

    ……..

Yeah. No quotes, just your interpretation which is filtered and formed via a thick bigoted bias thru which you view everything.

It’s the difference between showing leadership on a daily basis versus showing so little of the quality people are left to ask if one has any, one is incompetent, or has other loyalties.

Obama’s priority – and paid for at huge expense by taxpayers -was a fake ceremonial duty – a photo-op of him pushing his finger thru sand, which is meaningless, versus a duty that reflects the stature and direction of leadership befitting the Commander-in-Chief, a duty LIKE making the effort to lead the Memorial Day observances at Arlington.

He chose a quicky means to polish up hs rusting personal image, not actually do anything useful, while the Chicago connected, like his terrorist mentor Bill Ayers stand to make a boat-load of money in clean-up operations.

He hasn’t done squat, he gave half a speech in Illinois and quit, even though the audience had hung around to hear the rest of it. They made the effort to get there on their own steam, no motorcades and bodyguards, but he decided he’d done enough and LEFT. Just quit.

  37. McCAIN is the KING of PORK. He advocated an amnesty for illegal aliens from MEXICO which would cost the taxpayers 2.4 TRILLION DOLLARS!!! He was also OPPOSED to legislation in ARIZONA a few years back that would help stop WELFARE for ILLEGAL aliens and supports the DREAM act allowing illegal aliens to access IN STATE tuition and SCHOLARSHIPS. He also advocated ILLEGALS getting SOCIAL SECURITY benefits. McCAIN has a tax and spend mentality more like his pals PELOSI, REID, OBAMA and his former pal old TED KENNEDY. MCAIN GETS AN ‘F’ for FISCAL restraint. Time to ELECT JD!!!!!
