PR: Parker Calls on Brewer to Cancel Fundraiser

Vernon Parker Calls on Jan Brewer to Cancel Fundraiser by Planned Parenthood Board Member

DECEMBER 16, 2009. Today, Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker released the following statement.

“I am extremely concerned and troubled that Jan Brewer would hold a fundraiser in the home of someone who brags[1] about being a board member for Planned Parenthood of Arizona’s Action Fund. Planned Parenthood supports partial-birth abortion, and this is the arm of Planned Parenthood specifically designed to elect pro-abortion candidates to political office.

I have many friends and supporters who are pro-choice. They know that I am unequivocal in my belief that life begins at conception and is sacred. If this were simply the case of a pro-choice supporter hosting a fundraiser, I would not take issue with it. However, in this instance, Jan Brewer is having a fundraiser hosted by someone actively involved in the leadership of the state’s best known pro-abortion organization. That is totally unacceptable for someone who claims to be pro-life and I call on Jan Brewer to cancel this fundraiser immediately.”

Mighty white of them to ignore the fact the cohost was a delegate to the Republican National Convention that nominated McCain and Palin. “I think she’s fantastic. I think she’s just what the ticket needed, and I think she complements Sen. McCain very well. She’s already a proven leader, and she’s taken on incumbents in the past, and she has what it takes. She’s a young leader, and very impressive and it’s nice to have a woman on the ticket,” said Arizona delegate Paulina Vazquez Morris.

But then, mixed political marriages don’t exist, do they?

Further, I find it awfully funny the big tent keeps shrinking on this website.

Vernon is just playing to the far right chorus. Which looks like exactly what it is- pandering.

  2. I can’t believe parkers people are jumping on this. They don’t know all the facts yet. If someone had a fundriaser at james carvilles house hosted by his wife mary matlin a staunch conservative would parker say the samething??

I am not saying parker is wrong but it is really moronic for a campaign to jump on something that is so unknown and speclative at this point

  3. “If this were simply the case of a pro-choice supporter hosting a fundraiser, I would not take issue with it. However, in this instance, Jan Brewer is having a fundraiser hosted by someone actively involved in the leadership of the state’s best known pro-abortion organization.” … wait… so Parker has no problem so long as the pro-abortion supporters aren’t LEADERS in the pro-choice movement??? I get it. He’ll take their money, just so long as they’re not too loud about their beliefs.

Someone wake me up when one of our GOP candidates start to make sense again… I’m as pro-life as they come, but I don’t want to be pandered to with such blatant hypocrisy.

    I liked you, Vernon… I really did.

  4. Yes folks that’s silence. Normally you would hear air hissing from a deflating balloon but Parker’s ship has long ago set sail.

This is further proof he is grasping at straws and desperate for any attention. He missed the mark on this one. The release was posted 10 minutes before the event started so he was incapable of striking even if the iron was hot.

Say whatever you want about Brewer but to question her pro-life stance? That’s just odd. She’s not even 6 months removed from signing the most anti-abortion bill in the history of the state.

Go back to your pretty manicured lawn.

I read this differently. It seems to me that this is really about Parker wanting people to know he is pro-life. He can say it a thousand times, but only when it is put into context to another candidate’s behavior will people take notice.

There are a few issues that GOP candidates like to light up like an old pinball machine..

Abortion, immigration, the 2nd ammendment, marriage and fiscal responsibilty.

Three of the five get you in the game, five of five and you get your conservative street cred and you have a legit chance in the primary, sprinkle in a little personality and your chances go up..

  6. nightcrawler, say all he wants, he will never get to the right of Jan Brewer on Abortion. She has a voting record a mile long. Parker has never taken an official action on the issue.

  7. Dissapointed says

Brewer must be desperate for money. That’s the only reason you would go to the home of a Planned Parenthood board member for a fundraiser. Parker was right to ask for it to be canceled.

  8. Parker is right to point this out. Brewer had a long voting record of opposing tax hikes too. We all know where that got us. A board member of planned parenthood hosting a fundraiser is a big deal in my opinion. There is no organization that has done more to end innocent life than planned parenthood. Brewer has changed. It’s very sad.

  9. No one notice the latest Planned Parenthood undercover video of yet ANOTHER PP clinic coaching a girl to break the law to hide what they want to do? Greedy little nasties. And that’s BEFORE even considering the issue of the nature of the service they provide. TWO strikes against anyone with any sense of RULE of LAW and MORALS to have ANY public association with that organization.

Hey, dude. Have you had any professional take a look at that racist streak that runs through you? Heard it can be cured with intensive tolerance treatments.

  11. Yah gotta be kidding. says

    Nah, crass.

Big difference, since we all know somebody else named Jason threw that stone, and Vernon had no idea the stakes.

I can hardly wait for JR’s next missive to miss the mark. This is simply entertainment.

  12. Oh. It was an attempt at crass entertainment that missed the mark.

    Never mind.
