“Mystery” candidate to appear at LD8

The wise and the worthy need not the triumph of a pamphlet; and those whose sentiments are injudicious or unfriendly, will cease of themselves, unless too much pains is bestowed upon their conversion.”

The mystery candidate
Guess who is coming to LD 8

The United States Senate is one of the world’s most powerful and prestigious legislative bodies, even more so, believe it or not, than the Arizona House of Representatives. Senators and candidates for the Senate walk on the international stage. If your group had a chance to meet and greet someone vying for this high office, especially a well-known candidate in one of hottest, closest races in the country, do you think you might publicize the event? Do you think?

This does not seem to have occurred to the Legislative District 8 Republican Committee. On Friday, less than one week before the monthly meeting, LD 8 sent out their newsletter announcing their upcoming event: “The program for the evening will be a forum to hear the candidates for the Arizona House of Representatives from District 8.”

C O M M O N  S E N S E  happens to know that on that date, May 13th, US senatorial candidate J.D. Hayworth will speak at the LD 8 monthly meeting, so we checked with JD’s office to see if he had cancelled. Absolutely not! JD is still on the agenda; he just is not listed as a speaker. So what is LD 8 up to? We also learned that JD was told he can only have 5 minutes because the program is full.  This is a shabby attempt to marginalize JD Hayworth.  Do you believe for one minute that McCain would have a 5 minute time limit?

The plot thickens. JD has been scheduled for many months to speak at the upcoming LD 8 meeting, so why is there no mention of his appearance? Perhaps the McCain supporters are so afraid of JD they can’t even acknowledge when he comes to speak at a meeting of the PCs. We are betting that any questions for Hayworth will have to be written on cards so LD8 can control the time and content.

Imagine the foolishness. The AZ Senate race is one of the most watched races in the entire country. McCain and JD are both household names, but the LD 8 board of censors wants, as much as possible, to shut down this important debate. Nothing less than the MOST CRITICAL POLITICAL RACE IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY is at stake and the leadership of LD 8 wants to play childish political games!  This is another example of the strong political bias built into the LD 8 “leadership”!!  Frankly, this writer has seen better leadership at a cub scout meeting

Instead of letting LD8 control our fate; let’s demonstrate our support for JD. Come join the meeting on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 7:00pm at the Mustang Library, 10101 North 90th Street (immediately south of Scottsdale North Hospital on 90th St.) Wear your JD T-shirts; bring your JD signs! Yard signs, bumper stickers and T-shirts will be available. Show the folks what real Republicans do!

  1. Why did JD pull out of coming to the LD17 meeting at the last minute this month?

Too afraid of meeting up with the people he disappointed by running a terrible race and losing to Harry Mitchell?

    Just curious.

  2. Sour grapes. Perhaps you should check with the LD8 Executive Committee for their take on this. No, wait….that would be too simple. Best to just publish drooling wild eyed allegations with no substance. You scream at me when I post that Wendy Rogers hijacks LD17 using THE SAME TACTICS, but it’s perfectly okay for you to do THE SAME THING when it comes to your boy JD. Desperation, thy name is “Common Sense”.

  3. Arizonan Dude says

just warning everyone, I’ve been seeing some closet Democrats running as conservative ‘progressive libertarians’ lately… ie. Andrea Garcia.

  4. Look, it’s no secret that the both the de-jure and de-facto Leadership is “in the tank for McCain”

Their behavior regarding Thursday’s meeting shows desperation as they’re willing to get caught “cooking the books” for their boy!

    So much for “Character” counting!

  5. Alicia Gegner says

    Dear Mr. or Ms. LD17,

This may be breaking news to you, but not to a lot of us here in LD8. Many of us have contacted the executive committee. The they really have no excuse, but now are feeling the heat.

Frankly, what’s to check? When you have one of the biggest candidates in the entire country coming to your venue, it might be peachy keen just to mention his name. LD8 did not. Maybe they could not remember those two letters -“J” “D”. It can be tough when you are old and senile.

Also, what wild eyed allegations are you dribbling about? That he was not announced? Fact, not an allegation.

That the McCain-JD race is one of the hottest in the US? Fact! Not an allegation.

Political bias at the leadership level at LD8? Fact!! We have seen this play out several times before, as well.

It seems as though you are the source of the wild eyed allegations, but all of yours are without specificity or substance. You can throw “rocks” if you have a real target, but you may not throw pejorative rocks just to be a pain in the poop deck.

  6. Joseph Cantlay says

McCain supporters seem to spend a lot of energy on undermining the opposition instead of explaining their own candidate. McCain has a long record that all of us can look at. That record has always been on the wrong side of immigration, not to mention other areas.

Look at what they do, and do not listen to what they say. On that basis alone, McCain loses; JD wins.

  7. It’s no big secret that LD8 leadership is in the tank for McCain. They must think we are pretty stupid not to see this.
The membership of LD8 needs to wise up to this.

  8. Jacobite says

    Jack & Alicia:

The Leadership of 17 is in the McCain “tank” also along with the Scottsdale City Council!

The western part of the Eastern valley can safely be dubbed “Rinolandia”!

    At least until August 24th!

  9. The Mole says

We need to “out” all these district boards and get real republicans elected. If you a conservative PC and continue to put up with this, it your own fault. Expose them and get rid of them. The cancer is killing the patient.

I know LD17 is bad but it looks like LD8 is the worst. Between letting the liberal media explain what we are doing wrong and not letting the PC even ask question without approval, it a lost district. Come on LD8, take your district back!

  10. nightcrawler says

To be fair, JD’s appearance should have been listed in the newsletter and people encouraged to attend.

  11. Joseph, you have got to be kidding me!!! JD is the one who has spent his entire campaign just simply bashing McCain. At the beginning of this race, I looked deep into the history of these two candidates. McCain has a long record, many issues such as economy were a part of my decision. JD was an earmark guy in Congress, I read on to find that McCain is the third most fiscally conservative members in Senate. Issue number 2, foreign policy- McCain trumps. Issue number 3- immigrations. McCain LISTENED to us, changed his part on the immigration reform he was working on with Kennedy b/c he heard from us (the voters) that we were not in favor. He continues to work in our favor for immigration. As for JD, say what you may Joseph, but JD has spent little time explaining what he can do for us nor what he DID to us by losing his seat to the democrat Mitchell. Perhaps JD’s unethical past has finally caught up to him and he is running circles trying to bash McCain so that his own shortcomings are ignored.

  12. Pretty Peeved says

The real tragedy here is that some otherwise fine people think a party district meeting has meaning.

  13. RepublicanSOS says

The hysterical tone of “Cindy”‘s comment belies the irrationality of her arguments. By her logic, McCain should be explaining to Arizonans, perhaps to the American people, what HE DID TO US by losing to the democrat Obama.

  14. hmmm what’s worse, taking a Congressional seat for granted and losing 1/535th of the Legislative branch or totally tanking a Presidential race by treating a candidate of questionable background with kid gloves and losing the ENTIRE Executive branch… hmmm… let me think.

  15. The only place I’d where a JD tshirt is Hell after it froze over.

  16. There was no way a republican was going to win the presidential election so stop blaming McCain.

  17. Well Abby isn’t that JD type politics blame blame blame. What are you actually going to do JD I’d love to hear it.

  18. VOTE McCAIN his border plan is the only realistic approach.

  19. McCain lies again. He will try to ram McAmnesty down our throats again. 28 years and he never did anything for Arizona. He stops by every 6 years to lie to us and then goes home to Washington to make deals with the Democrats.

TARP. McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, Charles Keating. Just a few examples of his best work. He’s done, we can’t afford him any more.

  20. Arizona Ranger says

It is simply time to allow Mr. McCain to enjoy his well paid for retirment (courtesy of the taxpayers) and start gardening! We are sick to death of his double-speak on everything and anything! He does NOT represent Arizona-he represents McCain and ONLY McCain! And you want examine the “character counts” ad, review his stand on amnesty, or as it is conveniently phrased “comprehensive immigration legislation”. He supports this kind of legislation which will add over 12 million people to our census and to the Democratic party! McCain = RINO! Or maybe it should be “McRino”?
JD is not the perfect candidate, but I have yet to see one in any race. But he is much, much closer to being the kind of Senator that we deserve and desparately need. JD gets my vote and my support. Vote for JD and you will get true representation. Example: try to call McCain’s headquarters and ask to speak to YOUR Senator-“I’ll get back to you on that one” is the answer but never a call from McRino. Call JD’s HQ and asks for him. He will call you back. JD is a man of the people and for the people. We WILL elect JD and reture McRino.

  21. Cindy:

McCain has as many “earmarks” to his credit as J.D.

Not that it matters that much, since the money in question has ALREADY been allocated and all the “earmark” issue involves is whether the bureaucrats of the Executive Office get to spend it or a congressman can return some tax money to his or her district.

This is a pure b.s. issue to avoid overall spending accountability.

    Wise up folks!

As a matter of fact, Hayworth’s career spending record beats McCain’s.

And “The John” voted against tax cuts!

In addition, his career “three monkeys” approach to the enforcement of immigration law, his efforts to curtail 2nd Amendment rights, support for “Cap n’ Trade” along with two attempts to do an “Arlen Spector” and cross the aisle, presented us in 2008 without a Republican candidate for the Presidency.

    “The John” must be flushed!

    We can outdo Utah!

  22. Blue Meanie says

Carlist – The John needed to be flushed years ago. It’s be full for a long time. People are finally tired on the smell.

  23. Man, LD sure has gone down hill. What a bunch of morons running the show. Does anyone know who is on the board? It would be nice to out the RINO’s.
