McCain attacking JD Hayworth much more than he attacked Obama

Thursday, May 6, 2010

McCain more interested in attacking JD Hayworth than he was Obama. If McCain had gone after Obama the way he is going after JD, he’d probably be president right now

McCain, who labels himself in recent television ads as “the last line of defense” against Obama, is attacking JD Hayworth harder than he ever attacked Obama. Although polling in 2008 revealed that attacking Obama’s America-hating Pastor Reverend Wright would have aided his failing campaign, McCain refused to. From a Politico article: “Wright is off the table,” said one top campaign official. “It’s all McCain. He won’t go there. His advisers would have gone there.” Among those who think Wright is fair game is McCain’s running mate, Palin, who told conservative commentator William Kristol for a New York Times column last month: “To tell you the truth, Bill, I don’t know why that association isn’t discussed more, because those were appalling things that that pastor had said about our great country, and to have sat in the pews for 20 years and listened to that – with, I don’t know, a sense of condoning it, I guess, because he didn’t get up and leave – to me, that does say something about character. But, you know, I guess that would be a John McCain call on whether he wants to bring that up.”

Wright should have been fair game. His anti-American statements needed to be denounced. Even OBAMA denounced them! In his famous speech on race, delivered in Philadelphia in March, Obama condemned Wright’s use of “incendiary language to express views that have the potential not only to widen the racial divide, but views that denigrate both the greatness and the goodness of our nation; that rightly offend white and black alike.”

Now, the McCain campaign is going full throttle attacking JD Hayworth on baseless claims. They’ve attacked him for being a birther — he’s not. They’ve attacked statements he’s made on gay marriage — at least JD is consistent; McCain flip-flops on gay marriage. They’ve attacked him for receiving $2250 from Abramoff, which JD donated to charity after it was determined Abramoff was corrupt – yet McCain’s prominent endorser Grover Norquist served as an actual conduit for Abramoff funds.

Memo to John McCain: if you’d put as much effort into attacking Democrat Obama as you are fellow Republican Hayworth, maybe you would be president now!

  1. SuzanneC says

That is because McCain always attacks Republicans. Do you really believe he has changed? Do you really believe he has stopped reaching across the isle? Do you really believe he will protect the borders first? Do you really believe he heard us? What happened three years ago, why did he not hear 70% of us back then? Why is 2010 different that 2007? I for one will never believe the “maverick”, he now tells people he is not. I for one will never believe he will protect us and close and or protect the borders. I for one will never believe he will not vote for cap and trade. I will never believe all of a sudden he decided closing Gitmo is not good for this Country? Has he all of a sudden figured out water-boarding is not torture? Has he all of a sudden figured out what we as Americans and his constituents want from our elected Representatives? I think not.

  2. wanumba says

Chicago Carbon Exchange – CCX. A trillion dollar a year boodoggle for the CONNECTED, if the Cap and Trade is passed. Obama was part of the group who set it up. Democrats LOVE it. Green … as in money, lots and lots of it.

Money, greed, power, control and more money explains a lot of otherwise inexplicable behaviors.

If McCain is warm on the Chicago Way Cap and Trade, then the question is, how much money does he personally plan to make on it?

  3. Pragmatic Conservative says

Are you trying to re-write history? Didn’t JD pay his wife over $100,000 from money Abramoff bundled for him thru a PAC? She was the only officer.I Have the details if you are interested. Did JD pay that to his attorney?

  4. The Mole says

No he did not, it just a lie McCain freaks push. He did pay his wife a small salary to manage his PAC for several years. It was substantially less than most PAC managers and NO MONEY came from Abramoff. The investigation completely exonerated him and his campaign of ANY wrong doing.

Here is the link to the attorney letter sent at the end of the investigation

Should we start talking about McCain’s involvement with Abramoff? It’s old news but a better story. I just thought we were past that by now. McCain certainly doesn’t want to talk about it.

  5. Or how about Harry Reid’s involvement with Jack Abramoff? It’s a wonder Mcbloggers never bring that up?

  6. Pragmatic Conservative,

If you pursue the lie about JD Hayworth, maybe I ought to expose your IP address so everyone can see who you are.

Everyone knows that JD’s wife was paid $20K per year over a 5 year period. Everyone also knows that $20K a year is peanuts.

You know the truth so try telling it.

  7. Maybe it’s time to start the conversation about the relationship between John McCain and Scott Rothstein and how Rothstein swindled $1.2 Billion in a Ponzi scheme. Rothstein is currently sitting in a Florida detention center in Miami having plead guilty to five charges of conspiracy, racketeering, money-laundering and wire fraud. Next month, he could be sentenced up to 100 years in prison.
    Scott Rothstein & John McCain
Rothstein bundled campaign money for John McCain’s political campaign in the amount of $109,800.

Of course there is more to read about Scott Rothstein over at the Sun Sentinel blog.

  8. TheElder says

The Senior citizens that are crazy for John McCain based on nostalgia, need to wake up and stop supporting this loser. McCain cannot keep respresenting Arizona based on being a POW forever.

I remember John McCain telling a packed townhall in Sun City, back last summer, what he thought of Obama and what Obama was trying to do to America with Obamacare:

McCain told a crowd frustrated with Obamacare, that he thought Barack Obama was a good person and that he was “convinced” that Obama respects the Constitution.

Also, I haven’t forgot about the Americans are too lazy, compared to illegal immigrants, to pick lettuce comment:

John Mccain is not a “friend” of Arizona or America. He is a power hungry watered down RINO that can’t even lead his wife and daughter’s politics by example.

  9. DSW…did I just read in your comment a threat to “out” someone who writes in opposition to your candidate, the one of whom you are on the payroll?

Please, make your position clear on that statement. As the administrator of this blog, that is certainly your prerogative and I respect it. As it is the prerogative of folks to not comment.

I have seen the lies and distortions against Sen. McCain, and others, on here often…very often. The threat of disclosing their IP address has never been considered. If the ground rules have changed I believe people need to know that far more than they need to know the IP address of one who opposes JD.

It appears the foundation this blog started with and thrived upon has been shifted. I suppose that is one way to keep the anti-JD forces away and empower the echo chamber to be the only voice. If so, sadly I say irrelevancy is the next change coming to SA.

  10. Yeah, right. says

    Threats now?

    Why am I not surprised.

Well. This is a shock in the R party, given the treatment of Romley by Meacum the criminal.

I wonder if Brett would have been charged for that excessive speed under the criminal statutes if RR had been in office?

Seriously folks, the integrity of the R party is at stake, and you are concerned about the laughable JD campaign?

Ann has a serious point, you guys are failing the integrity test big time, and that reflects on JD and the Rose mafia.

You should be fired from the campaign for what was said above.

    I would.

  11. “maybe I ought to expose your IP address so everyone can see who you are.”

Frankly, no IP address was forthcoming, and its clear to me that none was ever intended. But that’s not really the heart of the matter is it? Pragmatic Conservative has made himself a pest by posting patently false–patently annoying–information. Is it wrong for us to wonder who Pragmatic Conservative really is? Wouldn’t he be someone recognizably tied to McCain’s campaign even on the campaign payroll?

So now the Mcbloggers want to play the integrity card, when clearly the problem with integrity originates with themselves and McCain’s people who lie like there is no tomorrow in every public venue possible.

It’s documented in public record that Hayworth’s wife received a small annual salary that did not originate from Abramoffs kitty. Any shadow of doubt surrounding the collection and disbursement of those funds where exonerated by the Federal government. Why do McCain people insist on spreading false information? You prove, McCain is the consummate salty dog who would sooner bite the hand that feeds him than pay one iota of allegiance to his constituents. He’s a scrappy fighter inside his party, but a compliant brown-noser outside.

I’d love to know who Pragmatic Conservative really is, but don’t expect to know because that has not been the MO of this site to date. Only a true coward would take anonymous blogging as a license to lie. What fathomless integrity is there when the cohorts of a coward complain about the integrity of another?

  12. Yeah right.

Any reasonable person alive will notice that this is just not the case. I remember quite clearly 2007-2008. Every single day, for 24 hours straight, there was campaign coverage. McCain relentlessly pursued attacking Obama during the national election.

A senate race is entirely different. During a national election, one has to campaign…nationally. A senate race is secluded within a state. It may seem like he’s campaigning more because, perhaps, he’s focusing all of his political capital within Arizona.

  13. Pragmatic Conservative says

My name is Walt Stephenson. I sometimes post under my name or the “Pragmatic Conservative”. I’ll use WS if it pleases you? I support Senator John McCain.

I’m pragmatic because it is my belief that if JD wins the primary we will lose the seat to a Dem. I do not believe JD could beat Glassman, in the general, let alone some of the other Dem’s that are starting to come out of the woodwork. What you are seeing now is childs play compared to what the Dem’s will do to us if JD gets the nod.

If you are being paid by JD Hayworth’s campaign and have custody and control over the content of this BLOG you need to consult JD’s Campaign Attorney and or the FEC.

  14. Pragmatic Conservative says

    Jane and DSW,
Please Google the whole article and call me a liar again.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, a research group in Washington that monitors the influence of money in politics, Mr. Hayworth was the largest single Congressional recipient of donations from Mr. Abramoff and his family, his associates, his Indian tribe clients and a gambling cruise ship line that he owned, with more than $101,000 going to Mr. Hayworth and his political action committee since 1999. Mr. Hayworth was also a frequent guest in sports skyboxes controlled by Mr. Abramoff and his clients, and at Signatures, a Washington restaurant owned by the lobbyist.

  15. Stephen Kohut says

    Walt Stephenson AKA “Pragmatic Conservative”,

Before you take out the Abramhof 2×4 to beat on JD you might discuss Keating, the +100K McRINO took and did not give back, who paid for his defense council, …. Both JD and McRINO have significant issues with tainted money.

  16. The Center for Responsive Politics aka is a progressive stat-farm supported by none other than George Soros and a multitude of other A-list liberals. I’ve already done my own research on the subject. McCain’s camp must be swarming with files.

But just out of curiosity, when did McCain give back HIS Abramoff money?

  17. Double Decaf Latte says

Could The Mole tell us exactly how small the “small salary” that JD paid is wife was.

Was it smaller than an average Arizona voter makes in a year?

  18. Nothing to worry friends, McCain-Kyl Ten Point Border Security Bill has now been introduced as S-3332.
If you’d like to read the full bill go to Senator McCain’s website and click yourself through.
Remember you read it here first.
    Have a pleasant weekend.

  19. Stephen Kohut says

And as with all things McRINO it will morf into an amnesty bill. No thank you. This is just part of John’s once every 6 year scramble to the right for 6 months to survive reelection. This year he has a contested primary and the old boy will be sent home to Cindy to help her sell beer. The John will be flushed!

  20. SuzanneC says

Oh ghee, what a great guy McNasty is. Tell me what he did three years ago? Did he introduce any enforcement bills? Did he hear us roar, no. He tried to shove Immigration Reform, AMNESTY UNDER ANY OTHER NAME IS AMNESTY, down our throats. His puppet Jon Kyl said I will not vote for Amnesty if you reelect me, what was the first vote he cast? AMNESTY. Both these Senators we have need to be replaced, we will start with JD Hayworth kicking McNotnice out of office like he did JD. And Pragmatic, the mood of the Country is not looking well for the Dims, unless people like you vote for them out of resentment, we will rid ourselves of McCain.

  21. Stephen Kohut says

McRINO’s friend Bob Bennett just got the boot in Utah. All the RINO faithful, all the RNC power brokers, all the “you scratch mine and I’ll scratch yours” politicians could not get old Bob through his primary. Soooo sad. May we be as fortunate on Aug 24 as Utah was on May 8.

  22. DDL….The total to Mary Hayworth, the PAC’s only employee, was $100,000 over I believe 4 or 5 years. Which is also the number of times JD used the Abramoff sky boxes for fundraising without paying for the use, knowingly in violation of FEC rules…until he got caught.

  23. The Mole says

Double Decaf Latte – as others have pointed out, YES. As far as the sky boxes, it’s another lame attempt to make up and issue. It was also investigated by the feds and NO wrong doing was ever found.

Now should we get back to TARP, McAmnesty. Keating, McCain Feingold, McCain, Lieberman and the rest of McCain’s reaching across the isle selling out Republican in the process?

  24. Here it is in a nutshell.

If you want a consummate politician; one who will have a splashy soundbite, soaring rhetorical retort to any and all issues, an excuse for all wrongdoings that point to others with no personal accountability, and able to use the shiny object theory to the max in order to avoid having his real record evaluated…then JD is your guy.

If you want governance over politics; effective and essential, a solid backstop to the liberal agenda of our current administration, a strong leader who can get legislation accomplished and has the ear and support of other solid conservatives, can adjust as necessary to accomplish the goals of conservatives and not personal interest and polling numbers…then McCain is that person.

  25. Stephen Kohut says

I guess Ann’s idea of a “conservative” is pro amnesty, pro crap and tax, anti-First Amendment, anti-Second Amendment, pro TARP, sits with the opposition, … Only in a liberal’s world is McRINO a conservative.

At the last Pinal Republican Committee Meeting John would have been hard pressed to find a handful of PCs backing him. The grassroots are united in tossing the old boy out.

  26. Sorry to burst your
bubble’ Mr. Konut. The winner of the Utah Primary Nominating Convention was TIM BRIDGEWATER. Who is Tim Bridgewater? Tim is a well known Utah businessman who just happened to be Sen. John McCain’s Western Regional Director during the 2008 Presidential campaign (I had the fortune of working with Tim and he is a real ‘go getter’). Congratulations to Tim & Laura! He will make a wonderful US Senator!

  27. Carlist says

Ann, Prag, Double Ditz and Horst and all McCainiac “moralists” repeat after me:

  28. Did Tim Bridgewater vote for TARP?

  29. Stephen Kohut says

Thar she blows! There has been a Jeffy Vath sighting!

Here is today’s lesson in Utah politics. Pay attention because it is obvious you do not know how it works in Utah. If no candidate gets 60% of the vote from the elegates the top two candidates go on to a true primary. Bennett came in third and is toast. That is the only important item from this phase. Now the top two, Lee and Bridgewate now head to a true primary. So, who finished one and two at this stage is meaningless. Learn you poltics son.

Oh, by the way. I didn’t see any comeback from you on the Pinal Pcs. Truth hurts, don’t it old man?

  30. Time for a ‘Reading Comprehension Class’ for you Mr. KpNut! All I said was that Tim Bridgewater won the Utah GOP Convention vote. On June 24th the Utah voters have a primary and Tim is going to win. Missed seeing you at the Casa Grande event, was looking forward to seeing you make an ass of yourself, but you were a no show…

Can hardly wait until August 24th when you will go back to the hole you climbed out of!

Can hardly wait until August 24th when you will go back to the hole you climbed out of!

  32. Stephen Kohut says

Why would I attend a McRINO chest thumping campaign event? I have better taste than that and, regardless of an election year “conversion”, know the old McAmnesty is unchanged.

You may wish I’m going away on 8/24 but be prepared to be disappointed. I intend to not just stay but be an ongoing PIA to RINOs everywhere and work for their removal fom elected office and party positions. I, and many other conservative PCs, are in for the long haul. We are countng numbers and are planning for the Dec and Jan county and state party leadership election. I like the totals we see. Your ongoing silence on PCs counts is deafening. How are you numbers looking?

Regarding Utah, the delegates knew that they needed a split that kept Bennett out and they had prior agreements in place to arrange that. So we have a virtual tie between the top two and Bennett is gone. Lee was a tool to get Bennett out. It’s that simple.

  33. Stephen Kohut says

Pardon my typo. The next to last sentence should have read “Bridgewater was a tool to get Bennett out.”

  34. Frankly, John should be attacking J.D.much harder than he did Obama!

He and Obama serve the same masters!
