Inauguration Art – “Air and Simple Gifts”

You have to admit that this was absolutely phenomenal.

I have always held that liberals should not be able to claim exclusive ownership or title to the arts, especially if we’re going to subsidize it!

This piece was composed by John Williams and performed by Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Anthony McGill and Gabriela Montero.

Here is the MSNBC video (much clearer)

  1. Veritas Vincit says

Did this really belong to the inauguration swearing in? Maybe something at an evening ball last night … but 2 million frozen souls on the Mall yesterday had to endure this highbrow nonsense.

File this under tossing a bone to NPR and PBS.

  2. Clearly Veritas Vincit has no soul. Also, I have never heard John Williams referred to as “high brow.”

  3. Veritas Vincit says

Todd my friend, chamber music is an indoor evening activity. When 2 million souls are standing in sub-30 temps to witness history… well, that just doesn’t seem the place for chamber music.

I’d expect to hear that group performing at a Neiman Marcus or in Rockefeller Center during the holidays.

But alas you got me! I got no soul… 🙂

  4. Veritas Vincit says

They would have been perfect at the luncheon afterwards in the National Statuary Hall!

Speaking of which… did you all see who John and Cindy McCain were seated with at the luncheon?;)

  5. Veritas Vincit , I agree with you about chamber music being better heard in smaller surroundings.

  6. Veritas Vincit says

Todd, I would have appreciated it more had it been softly playing in the background of the luncheon afterwards – or even featured during the luncheon. I understand the acustics in National Statuary Hall are absolutely outstanding.
