   I share Noonan’s disappointment. George W. proves “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

   His father campaigned on a “Read my lips, no new taxes” pledge and raised them once elected.

   When the President spoke to Americans last week, showing us such disregard on the amnesty issue, he lost me forever. I have defended him to friends and neighbors who have consistently been tough on him. Never again! His total disregard of the wishes expressed by American citizens and his insulting dismissal of our desires not to extend legal status to lawbreakers was outrageous.
