Conservatives Insist on Balanced Budget Amendment Requirement

Washington, D.C. – Republican Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents Arizona’s Sixth District, today announced that he will support the Budget Control Act of 2011 after House Leaders agreed to take steps to ensure that it includes a balanced budget amendment requirement.

“With conservatives insisting on the addition of a balanced budget amendment requirement, Speaker Boehner’s bill will now cut, cap, and balance,” said Flake.

“The ball will now be in the Senate’s court. If the Boehner bill is dead-on-arrival, as Senator Reid has said, I hope they’ll send us a plan of their own so that we can make improvements to it.”

  1. so if this bill is basically the same thing in the sense that it cut caps and balances and it doesn’t have a chance of passing the senate… why vote on it? Its no different than before

    • Because then they can point and say: “Look, look! See? We did something and the Senate Dems didn’t. It’s all their fault if we don’t reach a compromise.”

      • so by passing the same thing over and over again that shows you did something? To me it just reinforces the narrative the MSM have that the GOP is not flexible. I just dont see how this helps us at all

If balanced budget amendment so great, why does not Flake go for that in a separate bill? He votes to raise the debt limit. Great.

Sadly, our AZ congressmen sheep allowed rustler Boehner to muscle them into his big city corral, after only a few anemic whimpers. Boehner had announced early on that he would increase the debt limit, and by golly he appears to have done so, with the help of our frightened AZ congressmen.

Here is what our AZ congressmen supported and agreed to:

INCREASED DEFICIT: This country, AZ included, is drowning in debt. So our AZ congressmen just voted to reduce the debt by increasing the debt. That’s right, a higher debt limit for more debt spending for higher debt to pass on to our children and grand-children, and they’re telling us that’s the best they could do.

INCREASED SPENDING: More credit for more government = more regulators and regulation to strangle the American people and economy.

INCREASED CONTROL OVER AMERICA BY OUR ENEMIES: Who buys our notes?? China, a country whose government has declared their goal of destroying America.

A BI-PARTISAN COMMITTEE OF TWELVE: What a joke—a new “bi-partisan” committee to recommend spending cuts that may take effect sometime, or maybe not. A sorrowful excuse for our congressman to avoid doing their jobs of writing budget bills that reduce government and government spending.

VOTES FOR A BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT: Maybe, maybe not, nothing to keep taxes from going up and government from spending more and regulating and controlling more.

“The best we could do”? Nope, looks like an unconditional, unilateral surrender to me.

    God bless America.

  4. Flake was on Fox last night and admitted that if the Reid bill came to the House and they kept the same language except added the balanced budget ammendment to it, that he would vote for it.

WHAT?!?! He would vote to allow Obama free reign on the debt ceiling and who knows what else Reid snuck in the bill?

    Flake needs to go.
