Update on Christopher Smith

The Arizona Republic has uncovered additional information about the recent months of Christopher Smith’s life:

Records show Smith moved out of the home he’d lived in with his wife and three daughters in March. His wife stated in court documents that at that time, there had been “at least six months of erratic, bizarre, unexplained behavior” from Smith that culminated with her finding him with glass pipes, other drug paraphernalia and a large amount of pornography in their home.

Court documents mention “severe drug dependency issues” and state that “wife believes husband is so withdrawn as a result of the substance abuse that he cannot make rational decisions.”

She filed for divorce in June and was granted an order of protection against Smith.

This is a sad turn of events – it begins to sound like crystal meth addiction had taken over. Where Smith was found is a part of Phoenix that is totally out of place for someone – unless they are hunting drugs or other nefarious activities. This is sad for his wife and children. It shows how fragile any of us are in this sea of humanity.

  2. God bless them all.

  3. God Bless the entire family.
Lets end any discussion or repeating of unfortunate circumstances for the sake of his children. Please.

  4. What this should show conservatives is just because someone is elected or works for government that they are NOT better than your average Joe.

There are others down there doing the same or similar things. There are others down there both elected and not who let’s say have “alternative” lifestyles which 99.9% of conservatives would not approve of if they knew – and they exist both among Republicans as well as Democrats.

STOP TRUSTING POLITICIANS. STOP TRUSTING THE GOVERNMENT.

Their sole purpse is to TAKE YOUR AND MY MONEY.

That’s what they are there for.

    ……

Show Conservatives what? What a mean-spirited stereotype against Conservatives you’re promoting.

No comments are far better than this sort of gratuitous accusation and distraction from what has to be a sad and terrible period for one very hurting family right now. May they be able to reconcile with peace in their hearts the conflicting emotions, demands and duties they must be enduring.

  7. “wife stated in court documents” is not exactly a reliable source, judging by what a lot of us know about domestic situations involving children and custody disputes, and the lawyers who write up such documents.

  8. wanumba sez: If you work for government, you are better than an average Arizonan.

Spoken like a true elitist scumbag.

  9. Overserve and Wanumba,
You both miss the point that this is a tragedy for the innocent family. I think whether he was conservative (depends on who defines it) or not, the circle of high profile people that knew him should ask themselves if there was some chance to get him back on track. Politics in AZ is a really rough sport and Chris must have been a top notch professional to survive that. Its a shame that the same people that praise him posthumously didnt do more to keep him from going over the edge.
People that pontificate about American values and being God fearing people (conservatives or liberals) should think about how they effect others, cause in the end, we all have families and friends in this community.

The point is, if one can’t say anything decent, don’t say anything at all. What a grotesque time for Oberserve to take this as an opportunity to project hateful personal biases. Instead of resorting to decency, he resorts to nasty.

Elmer, with all due respect, it is not possible for posters who knew nothing of the man or his life make any valid calls about what his co-workers should or should not have done.

THe family is going through a very rough time, they don’t need gratuitous comments of blame-gaming filtering back to them.

Comments OFF would have been better.
