Thompson – and the tide rolls on

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson earning support from 28% of Likely Republican Primary Voters. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani attracts support from 27%. It is the first time all year that anybody but Giuliani has been on top in Rasmussen Reports polling.

Once again this week, Arizona Senator John McCain and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney are tied for a distant third. This week, both men attract 10% support.  This is continuation of a downward trend for both of them.  Last week both were 13 points behind Thompson and this week that difference has grown to 18 points.

Giuliani, McCain and Romney respectively have fallen from 37%, 22% and 16% support levels in this same poll in recent weeks.  This Rasmussen Poll gives even more signifigance to the Mason-Dixon Poll in South Carolina that showed Thompson the leading candidate in that early Primary state.

Go Fred!
