Day 24 – Congressman Flake Not Responding to Debate Challenge

Congressman Flake Refuses to Answer Wil Cardon’s Debate Challenge

Phoenix, Arizona – 24 days ago, Wil Cardon’s campaign sent a letter to Congressman Flake challenging him to a head-to-head debate.

So far… NO RESPONSE.

Wil Cardon believes debates are the best way for voters to understand the distinct differences in the candidates and to make the best decision in August. But, apparently the Flake campaign doesn’t agree. Spokesman Andrew Wilder called Wil’s debate challenge “predictable, clunky P.R. stunts”. (Dan Nowicki, “Cardon Wants to Debate Flake One-on-One,” The Arizona Republic, 6/6/12,www.azcentral.com/)

In the past several months, there have been numerous candidates forums across the state. Wil has participated in many of them. Congressman Flake, however, has ducked many of them, sending a surrogate to read a letter instead. Now that the race has become so competitive, Wil wants a head-to-head debate with Congressman Flake. Unlike a candidates forum, this kind of debate allows for the two principal candidates to interact with each other – it’s an important difference that allows voters to contrast the candidates.

Arizonans deserve to know all they can about the candidates to make the best decision in August. But, it seems Congressman Flake disagrees.

Wil Cardon Announces Support from the Students for Wil Coalition

Phoenix, Arizona – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Wil Cardon is proud to announce support from the Students for Wil Coalition. The group is made up of dozens of ASU students led by Chairman Nasser Kompani. Kompani is a native Arizonan born to parents who both legally emigrated from Iran in pursuit of the American dream. Nasser is a pre-law student involved in numerous groups on campus including, ASU Students for Mitt, Political Science Honors Society, Campus Recreation Student Advisory Board and ASU Game Day Spirit Committee.

The Students for Wil Coalition is backing Wil, in large part, because of his plan to get the economy back on track and get Arizonans back to work. In the past few years it’s become more and more difficult for recent college grads to find jobs. But the group believes Wil’s business experience and acumen will change that. For his part, Wil is proud to have Nasser, and all the students, on his team. He’s excited that his conservative message of creating jobs, securing our border and protecting families resonates with the younger generation of Arizonans.

About Wil Cardon:

Wil is a business owner, a fifth-generation Arizonan, a father of five and a true conservative who is willing to step away from his successful business ventures to serve the people of Arizona. He grew up in a family business where as a young man he worked on the construction crew and made change at the family’s gas stations. He went to both Brigham Young and Stanford for his undergraduate degree and earned an MBA from Harvard. He came back to Arizona to be a part of the family business where he has created hundreds of jobs over the past 20 years – a debt free business that has thrived by investing in our community.

Wil Cardon: Congressman Flake & President Obama: Advocates for Amnesty

Congressman Flake says he does not support comprehensive immigration reform.

BUT…

In 2007, Congressman Flake co-sponsored a bill promoting comprehensive immigration reform which included amnesty for illegal immigrants. (H.R. 1645)

Sounds a lot like President Obama’s decision to grant amnesty to more than 1 million illegal immigrants…

Wil Cardon: Flake Fights For Higher Energy Tax

Mr. Flake Pushed an Energy Tax that Republicans Opposed

In 2009, Flake Co-Sponsored A Bill to Raise Carbon Taxes

Career Politician Congressman Flake Claims to be a Conservative but His Colleagues on Capitol Hill Thought His Carbon Tax Was Anything But Conservative

“The bill puts the two lawmakers at odds with Republican congressional leaders, who’ve criticized the Democrats’ cap-and-trade plans as carbon taxes in disguise. ‘Cap and trade is code for increasing taxes, killing American jobs and raising energy costs for consumers,’ House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio said. ‘The so-called ‘cap and trade’ proposal amounts to a carbon tax, plain and simple.'” (James Rosen, “Republican Lawmakers Back Carbon Tax (Yes, That’s Right),” McClatchy Newspapers, 5/13/09; www.mcclatchydc.com/)

Voters Still Waiting on Cardon to Explain Source of Campaign Funding

Jeff Flake

PHOENIX – The Flake campaign renewed its call, first made last week, for millionaire self-funding Senate candidate Wil Cardon to release his response to a Federal Election Commission (FEC) complaint, which could help clear the air over questions that he may be illegally funding his campaign with corporate contributions from his family’s fortune.

“Cardon should release his response,” said Andrew Wilder, communications director for the Flake campaign. “As long as questions still linger over how his campaign is being funded, voters won’t trust him.”

In January, the Arizona Republic reported that Wil Cardon was the subject of a complaint filed with the FEC by Mesa resident Dave Smith, a plumbing contractor who is owed money by the Cardon family. The complaint questions whether he is illegally funding his campaign with corporate contributions.

Congressman Flake Is Mr. Washington!

Mr. Flake Goes to Washington and Refuses to Come Back!

Congressman Flake's Washington Buddies Pay Up to Keep Their Washington Insider!

“The Club for Growth endorsed Flake immediately after he entered the race, and they’ve raised an impressive sum on his behalf, bringing in $100,000 in the first 24 hours after giving him their backing.” (Sean Sullivan, “Flake In The Millionaire’s Club,” National Journal’s Hotline On Call, 4/4/11)

Not only does the Club for Growth pay for lavish trips for Congressman Flake, they are also his largest campaign contributors.

Even more of Congressman Flake’s money comes from Political Action Committees (PACs)

Arizona can’t afford a U.S. Senator beholden to anyone other than the citizens of Arizona.

Is Wil Cardon Outsourcing His Friends?

PHOENIX – Wil Cardon, Arizona’s millionaire self-funding Senate candidate purports to have created hundreds of jobs. Perhaps he’s being modest in not counting the 5,398 fans that he has on Facebook.

Love it or hate it, Facebook recently changed its look. One the changes in the new Timeline feature allows people to view the “page insights.” Wil Cardon’s Facebook page insights reveal something interesting: the city where most of his page fans reside.

For Jeff Flake it’s Phoenix. Richard Carmona it’s Tucson. And for Wil Cardon it’s Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Dhaka, Bangladesh? That’s weird.

With a quick search on Google, it’s easy to find websites like “buylikes.com” and “buyfacebooklikesfans.com” that promise to increase friends, fans and likes, all for a fee. Of course, it may be impossible to know for certain if this is what Wil Cardon has done.

“Money can’t buy love but it can buy you likes,” said Andrew Wilder, Communications Director for the Flake campaign. “Perhaps his campaign simply resonates more in Dhaka than with the voters of Arizona.”

VIDEO: Congressman Jeff Flake Loves His Lobbyist Perks

Phoenix, Arizona – Congressman Jeff Flake has traveled the world and enjoyed lavish vacations thanks to his Washington special interests and lobbyist buddies. On Tuesday Wil Cardon, Mesa businessman and Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, unveiled his latest web video detailing Congressman Flake’s posh worldwide travel paid for by Washington lobbyists and special interest groups.

Cardon has also launched a new website, www.DCFlake.com, which will house all things related to Congressman Flake’s dismal record in Congress. While most of Congressman Flake’s record has been fighting for amnesty, pushing cap and trade legislation, enjoying taxpayer perks and living the high life with his insider D.C. status, it is clear to Arizona that Congressman Flake has Potomac Fever!

Wil Cardon: Congressman Jeff Flake Continues to Waste Money for Travel

Phoenix, Arizona – A recent study by CREW, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics, found that Congressman Jeff Flake has no shame when it comes to the amount of government money he is willing to waste. Phoenix’s KPHO-TV highlighted the study’s findings in which Congressman Flake has reimbursed himself $20,000 for travel, meals and other expenses. In a time when our country faces over $15 trillion of debt and 14 million Americans are unemployed, Congressman Flake thinks we should be footing the bill for his extravagant congressional lifestyle. When KPHO-TV reached out to Congressman Flake for an answer on why he finds it appropriate to waste $20,000, the sixth term congressman had no response.

Study: Some AZ Reps. Use position to benefit themselves

PHOENIX (CBS5) – Do you ever wonder how much money your lawmakers give to groups?

A new study spells it all out for the United States House of Representatives.

Of Arizona’s seven representatives, only three are mentioned in the study.

The group behind it is CREW, or Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

It decided to look into how many U.S. representatives used their positions to benefit themselves or their families.

The group claimed the answer is more than half.

People like Rep. Ron Paul, who’s campaign paid more family members than any other representative, the study said.

You’ll also see Congressman Jeff Flake, Ben Quayle and Ed Pastor mentioned.

Quayle seems to be the lightest offender in the report.

It said he gave $250 to his dad’s company for facility rental and staffing services.

The report claimed Flake reimbursed himself nearly $20,000 for travel, meals and other expenses.

Then there’s Rep. Ed Pastor.

According to the report, his wife and nephew used to work with Chicanos Por La Causa, and CREW claimed Pastor has earmarked more than $1.8 million to the group from 2008 to 2010.

The report also said Pastor gave his daughter a big one up on the competition getting her a job at South Mountain Community College.

It said Pastor earmarked nearly a million dollars in 2008 and 2009 to the school’s ACE program and steered over a million dollars in federal grants to the program four months after his daughter was hired.

Coincidentally, her salary was at the very top of the pay scale.

CBS 5 News reached out to Quayle, Flake and Pastor for this story.

The only one who responded was Pastor.

His office said he has declined to comment.
