Glendale Tea Party Activist Asks Question in CNN Presidential Debate

I don’t know how I missed this but my friend Marcus Huey had the opportunity to ask a question during the recent Tea Party Presidential debate hosted at the Goldwater Institute (remote). For those of you who don’t know Marcus, he is one of the most humble men I know but he is also totally committed to the conservative cause. Greater Phoenix Tea Party Patriots to Participate in 1st Ever Tea Party Presidential Debate!

Please join the Greater Phoenix Tea Party Patriots next Monday night as they actually participate in the Presidential debate hosted by the Tea Party Express in Tampa Florida.

This underreported Presidential debate will be held in Tampa, FL at 8pm EST/5pm PST on CNN. This event is hosted by Tea Party Express. We have yet to see any coverage of this event on any media outlet. It is up to us to spread the word now so people will be able to watch this unique and historic event.

Over 700 tea party leaders will attend the debate in Tampa. Questions have been submitted to CNN by the patriots and will be asked by the moderators. Additionally, viewing parties will be held around the country to watch the debate. CNN has chose 3 cities to broadcast remotely from, and questions will also be submitted by patriots in these cities, which include Phoenix, Cincinnati, and Virginia Beach.

THE RE-DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

On the 235th Anniversary of our original Declaration of Independence, July 4, 2011
The Declaration of Liberty-loving Citizens in all Fifty United States of America,
When in the Course of human events, it becomes Absolutely Imperative for Us to recall with great pride, why we dissolved the political bands which had connected us with England, and assumed among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitled us, the profound greatness of which no one at that time could possibly have envisioned; it’s vitally necessary that we remind both ourselves and the rest of mankind of the causes which propelled us to that separation and the reasons to “Re-Declare our Independence today.
We hold that these truths are so completely obvious: 1. That all men are created equal. 2. That we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights. 3. That among these unalienable rights are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. 4. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of ‘We’ the governed. 5. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of ‘We the People’to alter or to abolish it, AND to institute new leadership of that Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to Us shall seem most likely to affect Our Safety and Happiness.
Reasonable caution certainly will dictate that Our Government, long established, having created the most prosperous nation on Earth, should not be changed for trivial reasons and deceptive opportunities; and certainly Our experience has shown, that we have been much more likely to put up with the theft of our liberties, and abuse of our rights, while such thefts and abuses are tolerable, than to restore those rights by abolishing the forms to which we are accustomed and had served us so well for such a very long time. But when a long train of abuses and destruction of our rights, pursuing invariably the same Goal clearly indicates a design to reduce us to absolute Slavery, it is Our right, it is Our duty, to throw off such Bureaucratic and Political chains, and to provide new Guards for Our future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of We the People; and such is now the necessity which constrains us to replace those former Systems of Government that have lost sight of what had made the United States of America the greatest Nation in the history of Mankind. The history of this current President and his administration, as well as many administrations before, is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having as their goal, the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over all aspects of our lives. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to the honest observers everywhere across the Globe. And let them be our jury, remembering all the while that we already have the one True Judge and law-giver:
1)     They have vetoed Laws, designed to protect our Rights as written in the “Bill of Rights”.  And have instituted other laws destroying those Rights.
2)     They have prohibited State Governors from enforcing Laws of immediate and pressing importance for the protection of the people, by stopping their enforcement till his Justice Department is ordered by the courts to allow such enforcement.  ; and when so ordered, They have utterly neglected to enforce them.
3)     They have refused to pass other Laws for the protection of large voting blocks of people, unless those people would relinquish their liberties for paltry provision, liberties inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
4)     They have called together Congress at ridiculous times for votes on extremely crucial legislation, preventing the careful consideration of these critical matters, for the sole purpose of bullying  Congress into compliance with such measures.
5)     They have usurped the Congress’s legislative responsibilities repeatedly, with executive order, for staunchly opposing his repeated invasions on the rights of the people.
6)     They have abused the sacred right of the people to have open and legitimate elections: By preventing an honest and accurate accounting of those who ARE citizens and entitled to vote, and then refusing to allos those who are entitled, specifically military personnel overseas.
7)     They have worked to infiltrate the population of these States with those who are committed to the destruction of these self-same states and the sovereignty of this Country; by obstructing reforming the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; to encourage their migrations without documentation, and thus destroying the opportunities of Citizens and working to cause the collapse of our economic system.
8)     They have obstructed the Administration of Justice, by appointing Judges who do not respect the Constitution of these United States.
9)     They have empowered Judges committed to a tyrannical agenda, who will adjudicate the law to enrich and support allies in tyranny, and also to abuse the rights of those committed to Constitutional principles.
10)   They have erected a multitude of New bureaucracies, and sent out swarms of Officers to harass and bully our people, and tax them out of their substance.
11)   They have established unconstitutional quasi-military police forces in a myriad of bureaucracies to arrest and unlawfully detain people who allegedly violate unlawful regulations by such illegitimate agencies: including the Environmental Protection Agency, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and EVEN the Department of Education!
12)   They have affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power, making them answerable to NATO, the United Nations, and other extra-Constitutional authorities.
13)   They have combined with such Un-Constitutional entities to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
a)     For creating an unconstitutional policing organization that would usurp the powers of the States to enforce laws;
b)     For protecting them, by a mock Trial, or by no trial whatsoever, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States;
c)     For making us dependent on foreign Trade with all parts of the world for our energy needs, and other goods by creating a climate in our own States that is utterly hostile to the conduct of business;
d)    For imposing Taxes, duties and fees, on us without our Consent;
e)     For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury; such as the IRS, and the EPA.
f)      For subjecting our military personnel to illegitimate jurisdictions to be tried for pretended offences;
g)     For abolishing the free System of American law and replacing it with a regulatory entity with powers to fine, imprison or confiscate our property without due process.
h)     For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments;
i)       For rendering our own State Legislatures impotent and irrelevant, and declaring that they are invested with power to legislate for us in most cases under Federal mandates and threat of severe sanctions.
14)   They have abdicated and conspired to dismantle our republican form of Government here, and declared us out of the Protection of the Constitution and waging War against our Liberties.
15)   They have prohibited access to our resources, ravaged our Coasts, strangled the economic vitality of our towns, and destroyed the lives of our working people with utterly despicable and evil restrictions based on fraudulent and false threats to the environment, and false accounting of resources.
16)   They have at this time granted un-American paramilitary and police organizations to ‘enforce’unlawful orders and arrest peoples who reject the authority of these groups,
17)   They have constrained our fellow Citizens to become separated into divided factions, creating divisions and resentments, and thus causing them to attack, kill or demolish other groups, thus leading to the collapse of the social order.
18)   They have encouraged and incited domestic insurrections amongst us as ‘Community Organizers’, and have encouraged invasion by aliens to our country, on our cities and communities, by these merciless street gangs and mobs, from outside our borders, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions who would dare to stand up to them.
In every stage of these Abuses, We have patiently asked for our Legislators to listen to us in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince (or ‘Messiah’), whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
Nor have we been lacking in petitions and requests to our elected leaders. We have warned our elected office holders and un-elected bureaucrats, from time to time of attempts by the Congress to extend an unwarranted control and jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our citizenship and the wars we have fought to preserve Liberty. We have appealed to their natural sense of justice and fairness, and we have implored them due to the ties of our common citizenship in our Great nation to disavow and cease these destructions of our liberties, which, would inevitably destroy our communities and positive interactions. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of our common heritage. We must, therefore, grudgingly acknowledge, that those who denounce our New Declaration, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in our struggle to restore Liberty, and in their acknowledgement of our position: Friends.
We, therefore, Patriots of these United States of America, in complete Solidarity across this great country, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rightness of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these 50 States, solemnly publish and declare, That We the People, and these United States where we reside are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent Peoples; that we are Absolved from all Enslavement to the Autocratic and Unresponsive Elected officials and Un-elected bureaucrats, and that all unwarranted regulatory and unjust enslavement by these self-appointed arbiters of our freedoms, is and ought to be totally eliminated; and that as Free and Independent Peoples, We have full Power to resist them, Re-establish our Liberty, ally ourselves with other freedom loving people, freely conduct business, and to do all other actions and choices which Free Peoples may of right do. PALIN PICTURE PROVOKES PUBLIC TO PONDER HER PLANS

THE UNDEFEATED IS A WINNER

We still don’t know whether Sarah Palin will run for president in 2012, but if she does, The Undefeated may just be her secret weapon. The film chronicles Palin’s entry into the world of politics, her time as a mayor and a governor, her run for the vice presidency, and the remarkable reactions she continues to draw from The Right, The Left, and seemingly everyone in between.

Filmmaker Steve Bannon kicks things off with a bang: Palin being introduced as John McCain’s running mate, followed by a sonic boom: a compilation of some of the worst, visceral, and down right weird attacks thrown at Palin from Hollywood blabber mouths. Along with the celebrities using profanity that would make a truck driver blush, there’s also some eye opening shots of protesters dressed in anti-Palin gear that will have to be edited out for sure once this film hits theaters nationwide if The Undefeated is going to avoid an X-rating. These opening salvos hurled at Palin set the tone for the film. It shows clearly how she’s been portrayed by the left-wing entertainment industry and by all of the mouth breathers who take time away from Mom’s basement every once in awhile to scream and yell about a woman who’s done nothing to them personally. Bannon then masterfully and creatively counters these off putting assaults with a little thing known as…the truth.

Governor Palin went almost instantly from a diligent, hardworking, successful, wildly popular governor in Alaska to a woman vilified by the national media and lefties nationwide. Alarming shots of a mannequin dressed as Palin hanging by a noose, Facebook pages wishing death on her, and hateful insults fired at her family members (kids included) really hammers home just how constant and nasty the assault on Palin has been. It leaves the viewer asking ‘why?’. Bannon’s examination of Palin’s remarkable accomplishments only intensifies the head scratching.

Members of Palin’s inner circle speak throughout the better part of the film. Each one standing in front of a background as white as an Alaskan snowfall. These are people who have played a major role in Palin’s private and/or political life. They are believable and forthright. Meghan Stapleton, Palin’s former senior advisor and spokeswoman is particularly compelling. Her candor about situations and how things really unfolded is refreshing. Stapleton’s impeccable ability to convey a story really takes the viewer right into the thick of the Palin administration. Kristan Cole is another star of the piece. A longtime friend of Palin, Cole captures the personal side of her buddy Sarah. She speaks of a woman who’s genuine and loyal. Someone who thinks of others first and doesn’t bow down to pressure. Bannon backs up this character portrait as the film moves on.

Sarah Palin did not participate in the making of The Undefeated. In fact, Bannon never even met her. Her presence in the film however is mighty to say the least. Footage of Palin is used throughout. Still shots of her as a young girl, home movies of basketball games and get togethers, sound of Palin from her Going Rogue audio book, and several campaign events and speeches, including her coming out party at the 2008 Republican National Convention. Before Palin’s splash on the national scene is looked at though, her historic feats to benefit The Last Frontier take center stage.

The Exxon Valdez oil spill is what inspired Sarah Palin to jump into politics and eventually be elected as Mayor of Wasilla. Fittingly one of the most powerful parts of The Undefeated focuses on oil and all that comes with it. When a powerful, intimidating to most, oil exec approaches Palin at an airport and basically gets in her face and tells her to back off, Palin it is recounted, simply says nothing and stares him down. The fat cat walks away knowing this woman meant business. A woman who means business is an overriding theme of this movie.

Palin is portrayed as a leader with a spine of steel. Yet, she still remains ‘Sarah’ to those who knew her when. Her reaction of “Golly” after clinching the GOP nomination for governor and sharing a brief moment with her Democrat opponent is priceless. She blows the whistle on Republicans who are crippling her state while still cooking meals and finding time to pull her daughter’s hair into a pony tail. She comes across as God fearing yet fun, intelligent yet self-effacing, well-known yet grounded. A regular person who is looking to serve. Not someone who had anything handed to her. A modern day picture of what the Founding Fathers envisioned.

The most incredible testimony into the character of Sarah Palin is her stunning decision to give up a six figure position because she felt that would be the best move for the state. Sarah and her husband Todd were not wealthy people. Still, she did what was right instead of what was easy. Bannon showcases numerous examples of stories like this that were rarely reported on when Palin was running for Veep. Instead the media focused on her clothes, her accent, and really anything else they could use as a tool to break the Barracuda. Three years later, it is clear they failed. More government is not the answer. A sentiment thrown around by many pols these days.  Governor Palin lives up to the slogan. An eye opening moment comes when Bannon highlights Alaska’s massive budget problems. Palin and her staff read the entire budget line for line, cutting along the way, until the spending plan is feasible. A politician that actually reads something word for word before they throw their John Hancock on it? Yes She Did. Perhaps Nancy Pelosi and others should’ve been informed of this technique when Obamacare was on the table.

Sarah Palin did not back down from the old boys club of the GOP, or the oil big wigs, or anyone else. Her approach to leadership in Alaska serves as a microcosm of how she would go about things in Washington. In order to be the first commander in chief that wears lipstick (at least that we know of), Palin will certainly need huge support from Independents. The Undefeated captures Palin’s ‘Drill Baby Drill’ mentality, something that should bode well with Indies if she does indeed run. Palin’s understanding of energy options and her expertise on the state that holds so much potential in that department is brought to the forefront.

Parts of Palin’s near perfect speech at the RNC sent chills through the theater. The clapping and fist pumping shows the exuberance Palinistas felt in 2008 is only stronger today. Her introduction to the world that night showed us a strong, confident conservative who delivered a speech that was pretty much flawless. Another example of something positive Palin has done that has just been brushed aside in favor of fabricated, frivolous attacks. The film also delves into a very important aspect of that 2008 race. Palin helped McCain. She did not hurt him. Folks turned out in droves for every campaign stop Palin was a part of. Supporters chanted, cheered, held up lipstick, and smiled. The governor from the 49th state energized a bid for the White House that was bumbling and stumbling. McCain soared in the polls after adding Palin to the ticket. As she continued to meet America, the numbers got even better for the GOP. With Palin on board McCain surpassed Senator Barack Obama and looked to be in good shape as the stretch drive neared. Then, it was the economy, stupid.

The Lehman Brothers collapse and poor economic announcement after poor economic announcement spelled the end of the line for McCain’s final shot at Sixteen-Hundred. The media would like us to believe Sarah Palin brought the campaign down. She did not. She kept it respectable. After watching The Undefeated, you can’t help but wonder what would have happened if Palin weren’t muzzled by the McCain campaign. She was the one going after Obama’s character and associations while McCain basically prefaced every comment on the stump with, paraphrasing here, “I’m great and so is Obama but vote for me.” The 1962 Mets had a better strategy for winning than that.

Despite the McCain-Palin ticket coming up short, the nation got to meet a woman that Alaska already knew. While the disgusting low blows continued to pour in from the types who never had a date in high school and currently have a Keith Olbermann poster up in Mom’s basement, others rallied behind Mrs. Palin. She is loved by Constitutionalists. She is championed by many who never were politically active before. The Undefeated rightfully credits Palin as a catalyst of the Tea Party movement.

After Obama downed McCain, Sarah Palin headed back to the state she loves. She was eager to get back to work on gubernatorial chores. Instead she was faced with monkey business. Out of nowhere ethics charges galore are thrown Palin’s way. The movie shows Palin handling the falsehoods she’s accused of with grace. Even though they kept on coming. The media would highlight each charge as a top story. Then each and every time the governor is cleared they’d be silent or bury the decision behind the local Tiddlywinks scores. Palin persevered. Footage shows a leader continuing to go about her business at home and in the governor’s office.

The Undefeated stunningly gives us the inside view of just how blood thirsty the press has been. Reporters admittedly saying they were writing slam pieces on Palin. They were intentionally trying to bring her down. They even questioned whether Palin was really pregnant when she was carrying her fifth child! One of the most important revelations to come out of this work is the reason why Palin left the governor’s job when she did. The ethics charges and costs that went with them were clobbering Alaska right in the bear skin wallet. Palin recognized this. Again, instead of putting herself first she thought of who she was serving. She did not want to leave the job she loved, but she did because she thought it’d be better for her constituents. A far cry from the ‘quitter’ spin that is put on her departure by The Left. Palin was getting the Saul Alinsky treatment, so she took the high road and a bridge to somewhere.

Along with Palin’s RNC speech the audience also became animated when President Obama appeared on the screen. Raspberries and Bronx cheers rang out in this Big Apple screening room. Free speech. But, there were no vulgarities, no threats of violence, no inappropriate barbs. Simply displeasure from Americans regarding a man’s policies. Quite the contrast of how ‘people’ go after Palin. The strangeness and deep, dark, horrific nature of the vitriol toward Palin is demonstrated very well in the film.

From a cinematography standpoint, Bannon’s baby is pretty advanced as well. He mixes in humor, symbolism and some great shots of old time Alaska beautifully. Politics aside, what really stands out as to why The Undefeated is a winner is the way the film gets more and more exciting as it moves along. Two hours seems like 25 minutes. Then the grand finale. A Palin-Reagan crescendo.

Conservative pundits are featured in front of that white backdrop later in the film. Mark Levin and Tammy Bruce really present the Palin phenomenon in plain English. Bruce talks about what drew her, a former liberal, to Palin. It’s quite simple really. Palin is the real deal. Levin compares the Tea Party and Palin to the Reagan Revolution.

Not unlike Palin herself, The Undefeated calls out Democrats and Republicans alike. Andrew Breitbart slams the manhood of the GOP men who stand in silence while Palin is ripped apart unfairly and viciously by The Left, Hollywood, and the press. He chastises them for their indifference and lack of action. I couldn’t agree more. Breitbart also delivers the best line of the film, saying “She (Palin) refuses to accept the premise of her destruction.” Ain’t that the truth?

Ronald Reagan was looked at as unelectable when he first came on the scene. We’ve heard that term bandied about regarding Sarah Palin as well. Bannon does a superb job of comparing Dutch with Sarah. The Undefeated includes super clips of Reagan challenging the establishment, going after reporters and politicians who try to falsify his record, and through it all maintaining a smile and a sense of humor. The film shows The left’s disdain for conservative candidates. True conservatives. Remember how loved John McCain was before he actually sewed up the nomination. Look at the recent love affair with Jon Huntsman. It’s the middle of the road Republicans the Dems want to face. The Undefeated is evidence of this.

We don’t yet know if Sarah Louise Heath Palin will run for president in 2012, but we do know a lot more about her if she does decide to give it a go. Judging by the portrayal of Palin in The Undefeated coupled with the response from the audience, you’d have to think if she does throw her glasses into the ring she’d have a real chance of grabbing the nomination. Then she’d have to try to make President Obama ‘The Defeated’. Impossible? About as impossible as challenging a corrupt system of good ol’ boys, passing landmark ethics measures, cutting spending, and being the first ever woman on a GOP ticket, all while raising five children and facing unprecedented attacks on her character and family. Hold on tight. GAME ON.

AZ GOP: Headed in the Wrong Direction

I want to make clear that I am not affiliated with the mystery group or the website that is demanding the resignation of our Chairman via anonymous demands.   Although I feel it would be best for him to resign, Tom Morrissey is still the duly elected Chairman of our party.  As such, he deserves the respect of people willing to speak in a civil tone and under their own name about their grievances.  I am making the case that Tom Morrissey is unfortunately not the leader to lead us to victory in 2012.  I have stated the facts to the best of my knowledge and ability and even removed and re-worked the post after someone claimed an inaccuracy in the numbers.   There are many debates to be had over this issue, and I ask you to reflect in a respectful and reasoned manner as to the role of the State GOP Chairman. For the sake of a false “unity” should we cripple the party for two critical years?   We must have an effective, strong organization against the Democrats in 2012.

AZGOP: Headed in the Wrong Direction

Republican organizations across the country have made fundraising a priority for the 2012 election cycle.  The newly elected RNC Chairman, Reince Preibus, stated his priorities would be to raise enough money to compete with President Obama and erase the party’s debt. Preibus is well on his way to accomplishing these goals – the RNC announced last week they have raised $17.7 million in the 1st Quarter, with over $7 million contributed in March alone. Additionally, the RNC has reduced its debt by nearly $5 million.

So the question begs to be asked:  What has the Arizona Republican Party, under Chairman Morrissey’s leadership, done to accomplish these same goals?

Fundraising

According to FEC (Federal Election Commission) Reports, the AZGOP is headed in the wrong direction. Year-to-date, our State Party has raised $176,653.  Republican revenue was $80,129 in January, $62,526 in February and $33,998 in March. Since Tom Morrissey was elected as our State Party Chairman, revenue has dropped 46%.

The Arizona Democratic Party, on the other hand, has raised an outstanding $220,448 to date, with $70,617 in January, $72,588 in February, and $77,243 in March. 

These numbers show that Democrats are increasing their contributions even as Republicans are showing declining revenue. The Democrats have out-raised Republicans in Arizona by $91,942 in only three months.  The election of the young, dynamic Andrei Cherny has given the Democratic Party an effective leader who moved quickly to heal splits in his Democratic Party, and has given the AZGOP a formidable adversary.   It should also be noted that Cherny’s election was heavily contested; indeed, factions within the Democratic party attempted to prevent his nomination as Chairmen on procedural ground.   Despite the overwhelming Arizona Republican victories of 2010, Arizona only has an 11% Republican registration advantage and the Democrats appear to have been motivated to rally in the face of their setbacks.   We Republicans have grown complacent and the State Party under Tom Morrissey has shown the troubles this can cause.

Reducing Debt

As of February 28, 2011, the AZGOP had $7,505.41 in debt, consisting primarily of monies owed to CBIZ MHM, LLC for FEC Report Preparation.

By the end of March 2011 the Party’s debt ballooned to $73,616.67.  As Republicans at every level of government are fighting against wasteful spending, incredible deficits & unsustainable debt, the AZGOP has increased their debt by nearly 1,000% in 30 days.   It is hard to imagine the party ever previously going through a period of such staggering debt accumulation.

Where did this debt come from?

  • $20,000 in legal fees to two law firms
  • $5,149 due to T-Mobile
  • $10,062 for FEC Reporting owed to two firms 
  • $4,865 Property Taxes
  • $1,327 Reimbursement
  • $683 to Cox for Internet Service
  • $14,334 to Political Media for web page consulting
  • $17,193 for Direct Mail, Telemarking and contribution envelopes

Following are some of the questionable expenditures by the AZGOP since Morrissey became Chairman:

In March 2011, the AZGOP paid Political Media $14,334 for web page work. This is in addition to the $4,954 they paid Political Media in February for web page consulting. That brings the total year to date cost for web page consulting to a staggering $19,228.You may visit www.AZGOP.org and decide for yourself if the new website is worth nearly $20,000. 

Business leaders understand “to make money you have to spend money.” Unfortunately, the AZGOP is spending money with no results. In March, the AZGOP spent $35,574 on various fundraising efforts consisting of Direct Mail and Telemarketing. These efforts raised $33,998, resulting in a net loss of $1,575. To put this in perspective, they spent $1.05 for every dollar they brought in and considering the $20,000 website could have generated some donations, this is a generous assumption.

The AZGOP spent $4,000 in March to lease a copy machine, and also spends $140 per month for a landscaper to maintain the grounds (ie. the half dozen trees scattered around the rock and asphalt) at headquarters. One can easily make the argument the State Party is wasting the money it is raising, and not spending it on the essentials.   Those that attended the April Executive Guidance Committee meeting realized that the extravagant spending of the AZGOP does indeed have its limits – the air conditioning was broken.  Rob Haney has moved the May meeting as well due to the air conditioner being still in need of repair, and recently noted that he has reserved locations to hold the meetings outside the Republican Headquarters in June and July, with reservations for August and September are in progress as well.  Although I cannot speak on behalf of the Maricopa Republican Chairman, I hope he is not alluding that the Republican Headquarters expects to be without air conditioning for the entire summer.

The Arizona Republican Party needs true leadership, a leader who can fill our war chests for the inevitable redistricting fight that will influence Arizona politics for the next decade. We are all aware the Democrats will file suit in every case where the district boundaries do not serve their interests, and right now we do not have the financial resources to fight any legal battle. In fact, we have already taken ourselves deeper into debt with $20,000 of unpaid legal fees.  Sadly, the Arizona Democrats, who are in the exact same position with new party leadership, seem to be gearing up for this fight.  They have out raised and out spent us without accruing any additional debt.

The Arizona Republican Party seems to be on a fast track to bankruptcy and demise from internal and external destruction.  We need a consistent, qualified leader that can fundraise and ultimately, unite the party when it really matters. Without this unity, we are not only diminishing our ability to defeat Obama in 2012, but also risking our majority Arizona Congressional Delegation, and the super-majorities we have gained in the Arizona House and Senate. With the 2012 election right around the corner we need a strong State Party more than ever, and so far we have yet to see the results or actions we need.

I, personally, did not support Tom Morrissey for State Chairman.  However, I feel that barring extraordinary circumstances, it is important to support a State Chair.  Unfortunately, these are extraordinary circumstances.  Asking for a State Chair to step down is a very serious matter, and should not be taken lightly or for reasons of philosophical differences.  It should only be done in times of grave crisis.   I fear we are heading for that crisis.

Arizona Republicans need a leader who can be effective in preparing our State Party for the challenges that await us in 2012. Tom Morrissey is not that man. Tom Morrissey is not a leader.

Feet to the Fire at the Arizona Capitol – This Friday!

The Arizona chapter of Americans for Prosperity, along with allied Tea Party groups and policy organizations, is hosting a giant Feet to the Fire Tea Party from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on the evening of April 15, 2011. The event will take place on the House and Senate lawns at the Arizona Capitol, and will feature a meet-and-greet with elected officials on the lawns, beginning at 4:00 pm.

On Tax Day in 2009, we brought a crowd of over 7,000 people to the Arizona Capitol. Our goal was to let fed-up Tea Partiers know that the Arizona Legislature actually does have a core of solid fiscal conservatives. Thanks in large part to local Tea Party groups around the state, the Legislature now has even more conservatives. But we cannot simply trust them to do the right thing. On Tax Day in 2011, we must hold their Feet to the Fire.

Grassroots leaders push to reform city government

Re:  Municipal managed competition reform (SB 1322)

Dear President Pearce and Speaker Adams:

We are writing to you and to the members of your chambers to ask for your support in passing Senate Bill 1322, the municipal managed competition reform. 

SB 1322 would require Arizona cities with populations of 500,000 or more to open up city services to competition from the private sector.  The bill has three main policy objectives:

• Create jobs.  By requiring an open and competitive bidding process, SB 1322 will allow private businesses, public-private partnerships, and city employees to compete to provide services to city residents at the lowest prices compatible with the highest quality and most reliable performance.  Competitive bidding will help to moderate the costs of all productive factors, including labor, thus allowing thousands of new workers to be hired.  (For example, in Fiscal Year 2010, the City of Phoenix paid its average worker a salary, benefit, and overhead package of $97,707.  That was up from $83,231 in FY 2007—a 17-percent increase in just three short years, at a time when private-sector workers were suffering pay cuts and layoffs.  Even if we take out police officers and firefighters—who would be exempt from SB 1322—competitive labor costs could allow the Phoenix economy to employ one and a half times the current number of city workers, at the average private-sector salary-and-benefit level.) 

• Save money for city governments and city taxpayers.  By saving money on maintenance and operations costs, SB 1322 would free up scarce budget resources at a time when cities are facing tough budget constraints.  The combined savings in Phoenix and Tucson could soon be over $500 million a year—savings that could be passed on to taxpayers through rollback and repeal of recent tax and fee hikes.     

• Create opportunities for small business.  SB 1322 will help to inject hundreds of millions of dollars a year into the local economies in Phoenix and Tucson.  By requiring those cities to bid out services costing above $75,000, SB 1322 would create opportunities for dozens of small businesses to win contracts to perform city services. 

SB 1322 gives city councils opportunities to disapprove statements of work presented to those councils by city managers, and allows city councils to award longer-term contracts to independent contractors and public-private contractors that provide significant capital investments to the cities. 

SB 1322 includes several key protections for taxpayers and several provisions designed to ensure that contractors serve as faithful stewards of public resources:

• Transparency in bidding and performance.  SB 1322 stipulates that all bid-related communications and supporting materials submitted for consideration by the affected cities shall be public records, and mandates that the city managers and all city departments of affected cities shall conduct annual performance audits for contracted services, the cost of which must be accounted for and incorporated into all bids.  SB 1322 requires city managers of affected cities to seek independent performance audits every five years to evaluate the accuracy and completeness of the municipalities’ performance audits, and stipulates that all performance audits shall be public records.

• Protection of city resources.  SB 1322 requires that all bidders, public or private, must be able to provide bonding or other forms of security to adequately protect cities, and requires that all bidders maintain an adequate level of liability insurance consistent with the city risk management requirements.

• Public safety provisions.  SB 1322 requires that independent contractors have appropriate safety policies and procedures in place to protect the public and its employees, and requires that independent contractors perform background checks on employees performing any service for which the affected cities require background checks of municipal employees.

• Breach-of-contract protections.  SB 1322 mandates that independent contractors acknowledge that the affected cities may rightfully terminate and rescind contracts awarded to independent contractors in the event of material breaches of those contracts.

• Term limits for service contracts.  SB 1322 provides that service contracts may not have terms longer than five years, with three one-year renewals, before the related services must be submitted again to open and competitive bidding.

• Term limits for capitalization projects.  To address policy concerns voiced in committee, the proposed floor amendment to SB 1322 allows for longer terms to be awarded for contracts with independent contractors or public-private partnerships that involve significant capital investments.  But the proposed amendment also limits the terms of those contracts to the length of the amortization schedules prevailing in those industries.

Given the wide latitude allowed to city councils and city managers in designing service contracts, SB 1322 includes a taxpayer standing clause that allows taxpayers residing in the affected cities to bring special actions in court to enforce the protections afforded in the legislation.

Once the success of this managed competition reform has been demonstrated in Phoenix and Tucson, it is our firm hope that future Legislatures will expand the reform to include all of the municipalities and counties in Arizona, thus providing its protections to all Arizona taxpayers. 

Upon request, we will provide you with a copy of the draft floor amendment which incorporates changes suggested during the Senate committee hearings and changes suggested by stakeholders.

The good news for Arizona conservatives and taxpayers is that many are now connected to the TEA Party network. When these photos were taken, it was January 2009 and the TEA Party Movement was weeks away from starting. It wasn’t until April 15, 2009 that Arizona taxpayers showed up at the Capitol to speak up for their rights. (see Tea Party rally below)

The lesson to be taken from this? If you’re not engaged in a TEA Party, this is an encouragement to get involved.

Who is the REAL Arizona Tea Party Senate Candidate?

Over the course of the last few months, Arizona’s U.S. Senate race has really started to heat up on several fronts; the most heated are of course the interactions between the incumbent Senator, John McCain and the front running Republican challenger and Tea Party supported candidate, JD Hayworth. However, a not so publicized debate is going on between the local Arizona Tea Parties and the other Republican challenger and so called “tea party candidate” Jim Deakin.

Ever since February, when JD Hayworth received his first tea party endorsement from the Tea Party supporting political action committee, LibertyFirst PAC, Jim Deakin and his campaign have been working very hard to legitimize their tea party connection. The effort has yielded them very little, if any at all, support from the local Arizona tea parties. At the time of LibertyFirst PAC’s endorsement many of the local tea parties were not endorsing candidates; most weren’t legally able to due to IRS tax restrictions. Since March however, the tea parties have been working very closely with one another and working hand in hand with groups like the Patriot Caucus, Tea Party Patriots and the Arizona Tea Party Network to establish several alliances and coalitions for the sole purpose of endorsements, some specifically for showing support for Hayworth. In fact on August 2nd, a coalition of more than 16 Arizona state-wide, Tea Party and like-minded Conservative groups came together to announce they were all endorsing JD Hayworth to be the next United States Senator from Arizona.

Today those same 16 groups, including many of the local Arizona tea parties are now under attack from Jim Deakin, the so-called “tea party candidate”. Deakin is clearly not receiving the tea parties support and his campaign staff are now challenging the legal legitimacy of the groups via forum posts and Facebook notes like this one where he states, “Freedom loving Arizonans beware and be wary of Fake TEA Party Organizations designed to pray on your patriotism.” Aside from his obvious misuse of the word “pray”, he goes on to say that because the tea parties are endorsing Hayworth that this proves that they are simply GOP front groups, in particular the Patriot Caucus, and that now because they are endorsing Hayworth that they are also endorsing governmental policies on earmarks, cap and trade, amnesty, tax increases and every other thing that is against what the tea party stands for. Oddly enough, Mr. Deakin didn’t feel the same way about these groups a few months ago, which was right before right before they courted and endorsed Hayworth.

What Mr. Deakin and his campaign staff fail to realize is that, some of these groups were started by some of the original tea party organizers from around the nation and the state of Arizona; some of which are not even registered Republicans. The problem with Deakin’s complaints against “fake tea parties” not supporting him and publicly displaying his “sour grapes” attitude to the world is that the liberal media, and the John McCain media machine, will have a field day twisting and turning the truth about the tea parties to their advantage. Mr. Deakin hopes that his public outcries against the tea party movement will damage the various groups reputations; therefore damaging Hayworth’s reputation at the same time since he is their chosen tea party candidate.  All the while, Mr. Deakin continues to slap the movement in the face as he condescendingly calls himself “the tea party candidate”, but in reality, he is not known for his tea party support…he is know in Arizona as “the spoiler candidate”.

Make no mistake about it, JD Hayworth is the Arizona tea parties chosen candidate for U.S. Senate. A majority of the local tea parties have went out of their way on numerous occasions to show their unwavering support for Hayworth, and Hayworth has returned the favor by going out of his way to support the tea parties. The relationship between the two is a bond between a politician and the people; just like our founding fathers would have wanted.

The Tea Party Race of the Year

In this election year there exists numerous forces that converge to create the “Mother of all Political Tsunamis”!  From the TARP vote in 2008, the Stimulus vote that spawned the famous Rick Santelli Rant where he called for a New Boston-style Tea Party; Obama’s all out assault on the doctor-patient relationship, and his radical restructuring of the Health Care system; the attempted stranglehold of American industry with the “Cap and Trade” legislation; to the repeated exposes of Democrats’ scandals, and ultimately, the emergence of the Tea Party Movement; this election cycle unlike any other, including 1994 and 2006, will result in the most spectacular political change since the early 20th Century. A brief history lesson is in order.

Beginning in 1896, with William Jennings Bryan, the Progressive movement began the political transformation of our country, into the big government, high tax, statist party that produced Woodrow Wilson and both Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt.  And this radical transformation occurred in one short generation when, by 1912, all three presidential candidates, Wilson, Taft and Roosevelt were Progressives.

Over the past 75 years, Progressivism/Neo-Marxism has propelled us to this place and time.  We face alternatives like never before: will we complete the “Fundamental Transformation” into the statist, socialist country Obama envisions?  Or, will we remember how our country achieved its unparalleled greatness, and ultimately return to those values that made our real progress possible?  This is the choice we face today, never have our options been more clear.

That brings us to the election that can define our movement, if we’re up to the task.  We have seen some profound Primary elections thus far, Sharron Angle in Nevada, Mike Lee in Utah, and Marco Rubio in Florida; which have placed the Tea Party’s powerful influence on full display. Yet, the one election that can best define the Tea Party influence occurs on August 24th, in Arizona.  The race that can stamp our movement, is the Republican Primary between Arizona’s powerful, Progressive Senator John McCain with all the power of his incumbency, and his challenger, the “Consistent Conservative” JD Hayworth, who in spite of his twelve year in congress, JD is really considered a “grassroots” or Tea Party candidate. 

Capitalizing on his popular afternoon drivetime show on KFYI 550-AM, Hayworth entered the race, after intense urging from his listeners, strong encouragement from conservative Republicans, and powerful allies like Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Senators Ron Gould and Russell Pearce.  Even before JD entered the race McCain, fearing his entry  and concerned with JD’s support, began running commercials attacking Hayworth, EVEN on KFYI!  So the stage was set. Now this race really can shape and propel the Movement for years to come; primarily because never has the choice been more clear. Another remarkable aspect of this race, is the veritable David and Goliath nature of the candidates.  In spite of his twelve years in the House, JD is the huge underdog, partly due the McCain inspired DOJ investigation after his loss in 2006; that ultimately proved to be devoid of any suspicion of wrongdoing .  Grossly underfunded, with none of the progressive media support, nor national endorsements like  his opponent, JD faces a daunting task.  McCain has everything going for him, money, endorsements, savvy campaign managers; indeed everything but the popular support by Arizonans, who are fed up with John’s constant selling Arizona down the river.

And the reasons for their disgust with McCain are clear.  Both candidates have more than rhetoric; they have legislative records, which very clearly illuminate their values and political philosophy.  McCain’s record is clear and obvious, no honest evaluation leads us to any other conclusion other than he is a Progressive.  McCain’s ratings and evaluations from independent conservative groups are abysmal.  Just look at his grades from the NRA, American Conservative Union and the National Journal.  With a C- from NRA, a pathetic 82% (73% for 1999-2008) lifetime rating from ACU and overall terrible rating showing him slightly more conservative than our Maine ladies Snow and Colling. For an allegedly staunch conservative, they are pathetic.  Perhaps that is why he attempted to obfuscate his record stating, “I never considered myself much of a Maverick.” Clearly the John McCain’s record disappoints everyone who supports a more conservative agenda: principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility and national sovereignty.  Perhaps that agenda is best exemplified in the phrase: “Restore our Constitutional Republic.”

The list of people that are very disenchanted with McCain, and certainly oppose his re-election is a “Who’s Who of conservative talk show hosts and political analysts.  Such luminaries include the king of Conservative talk, Rush Limbaugh, who recently stated, “The era of John McCain is over!”; the hottest cable show’s Mark Levin, author of “Liberty and Tyranny” the wildly popular Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham, and Ann Coulter. All of them have roundly condemned and parodies the 2008 GOP candidate for president.

By contrast, JD Hayworth has tremendous support among conservatives and Tea Party leaders throughout the nation.  Additionally local officials, including ‘America’s’ Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the Maricopa County GOP Chair, Rob Haney and Executive Director Tom Husband have also endorsed Hayworth.  There exists overwhelming support for JD among conservatives.

Yet, it’s not enough just to desire McCain’s departure from the US Senate.  The Tea Party movement should support a true conservative in Congress.  JD’s record should meet our expectations.

When you examine him with the same standards, JD outshines the four-term incumbent.  With an ‘A’ rating from NRA, a 98% lifetime ACU rating and a very positive National Journal scorecard, it’s obvious that JD Hayworth is the Tea Party candidate with the record to prove it.

JD, through his afternoon drive-time radio show on KFYI has clearly established his support for, and solidarity with the Tea Party movement.  He promoted the original Tea Parties in Arizona, interviewing the organizers, talking about the hot topics, and keeping his large audience aware of events over the last year.  Now he often speaks to Tea Party groups throughout the state, as he campaigns.  He’s quite at ease, meeting with Tea Partiers in often small group settings, though  crowds are as large as 300 or more. The Arizona Tea Party movement has called JD a friend .

Lastly, the critical issue that catapulted Arizona to the forefront of American politics this spring is Illegal Immigration and Border Security after the Arizona Legislature’s passed SB1070.  Hayworth has been at the forefront of this huge battle, even writing a book on the subject.  By contrast, McCain is a “Johnny-come-lately” to protecting the border, IF you believe him, that is. If you do, I have ocean-front property in Sierra Vista or Yuma for sale!

If Tea Party Nation and other groups make this race their highest priority, and the Arizona voters elect JD Hayworth as the Republican nominee for US Senator, and ultimately the Senate, the strength of the movement will be unquestionably established; the nation, no the world will stand up and take notice.

Senate Candidate Goes On Offensive Against Tea Partier?

June 7th, 2010 an article was on posted Sonoran Alliance that included a link to a local poll labeled “Should Deakin drop out of the AZ Senate race?”. Naturally this poll received some attention from the Deakin campaign, and for good reason as the poll indicated that a majority of participants felt that Deakin should withdraw or drop out of the Senate Race. The poll was established shortly after two separate Sonoran Alliance opinion pieces called for Deakin to bow out of the Senate race. What Jim Deakin choose to do with that information however is no mystery. Instead of trying to work at his campaign to put himself into a better position, he choose to tell the organizer of the poll to “Butt out of Arizona Politics”. It’s important to note that Mr. Deakin knows exactly who the pollster was, and that the organizer of the poll is a local Arizona resident, voter, and member of the Tea Party movement in Arizona. The point being made here is that Jim Deakin is establishing an unpleasant reputation among many tea party groups and individuals that are not in support of him. This is a confusing position for him to have since he is a candidate that claims to promote tea party principles, free speech and the Constitution.

On both the Arizona Tea Party Network website and the Greater Phoenix Tea Party website are forum areas for Tea Party members to discuss candidate related content; Deakin and his campaign staff frequent the forums and post updates regularly under pseudonyms like “JPD”. June 8th, in response to the Sonoran Article listed above, Jim Deakin’s camp posted the following message in at least 9 separate areas of Greater Phoenix Tea Party website and 1 area on the Arizona Tea Party Network website:

“Speaking of interfering in elections of a Federal Candidate on an email with this paid for notice “Paid for by Maricopa County Republican Committee”. is a link to a poll made by the Congressman’s campaigner Keith Sippmann “should deakin drop out of the us senate race! Call Rob Haney Maricopa County Chair and tell him… I said HELL NO! (602) 996-1004″;

A rational person would have to question why someone would go through the trouble of posting the same update in ten different places. What is the purpose? The logical answer is that Mr. Deakin was basically implying that the MCRC was somehow approving of the polls position by including a link to the poll in a regular email communication that includes many other links to articles and related local political content. Of course this is an intentional misrepresentation of the truth by the Deakin camp, and a blatant attempt at labeling a citizen activist that opposes his candidacy for Senate as a “Congressman’s Campaigner”, again misrepresenting the truth that the activist somehow officially works for the JD Hayworth campaign. The MCRC was contacted by a concerned Tea Party member and was informed that “ the e-mail that was sent out by the MCRC was NOT an endorsement, simply an FYI, just like any other news link or other piece of information regarding any Republican Race in the State or County.”

Whenever a discussion appears online suggesting that Jim Deakin withdraw from the Senate race, his supporters always use the phrase “only a moron votes for the lesser of two evils as opposed to the RIGHT candidate.” These Deakin’ites don’t care that Deakin still isn’t breaking double-digits no matter what poll is quoted, or that he could possibly hand the seat to McCain. Instead his campaign posts a link to a CBS News article revealing that “Among Republicans, 71 percent would rather vote for a candidate with no experience.”, as if this somehow translates into more Arizona voters supporting him over Hayworth or McCain. At some point the die hard Deakin supporters and Jim Deakin himself, will have to realize that their individualist, political “outcast” attitude is just a matter of pride. To them, popular political movements that don’t favor “their guy” or “their way” of doing something must be wrong. They feel that a majority of people cannot be very smart if they aren’t supporting their candidates or initiatives, which is an attitude of intellectual elitism ironically found on the other end of the spectrum with the far leftists. It would seem that

SB1070 & the Tea Party…

The national media outlets and leaders of certain minority communities are blasting the airwaves and internet with “legal opinions” about the new immigration law and even suggesting boycotts against Arizona — ironically most of these comments are from people who are not from Arizona. Like so many other issues that we conservatives find to be important, the leftist controlled media has distorted what SB 1070 will do.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said the federal government may challenge Arizona’s new law, and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, said Arizona’s new immigration law could siphon federal money and staff needed to go after truly dangerous immigrants.

I want make one thing very clear here….Gov. Jan Brewer did not write federal immigration laws that require permanent residents to carry green cards, or make it mandatory for employers to check immigration documentation. Washington did.

Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen stated on a blog that “The federal law is very clear, if you are here on a visa you must have your papers on you at all times. That is the law. In Arizona all you need to show that you are a legal citizen is a valid driver license, MVD identification card, Native American Card, or a Military ID. This is what you need to vote, rent a car, or to use a credit card when shopping. So nothing new has been added to the federal law.”

SB1070 requires police officers, “when practicable,” to detain people they reasonably suspect are in the country without authorization and to verify their status with federal officials, unless doing so would hinder an investigation or emergency medical treatment. It also makes it a a misdemeanor to not carry immigration papers. In addition, it allows people to sue local government or agencies if they believe federal or state immigration law is not being enforced. Some opposing the bill state that Arizona doesn’t have the right to enforce this law, but according to a blog post by Attorney Walter Moore:

In 1983, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit – you read that right, the Ninth Circuit — concluded, in Gonzales v. City of Peoria, 722 F.2d 468, that, “Although the regulation of immigration is unquestionably an exclusive federal power, it is clear that this power does not preempt every state activity affecting aliens.” Rather, when “state enforcement activities do not impair federal regulatory interests concurrent enforcement is authorized.” The Court accordingly held “that federal law does not preclude local enforcement of the criminal provisions” of federal immigration law.

No one is going to be stopped on their way to an ice cream parlor or walking down the street. The Liberals who are in power in DC are angry because we dare try and do something about the problem. They want the “Transformation” of America that President Obama has talked about to continue.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) did an analysis of the latest Census data which indicates that Arizona’s illegal immigrant population is currently costing the state’s taxpayers about $2.2 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration. In 2020 that number is estimated to rise to $3.9 billion. Those costs do not include Special English instruction, school nutrition programs, or basic welfare benefits.

To put this into perspective, the proposed Prop 100 sales tax that has everyone in a frenzy will raise about $1 billion annually from the private sector. Illegal immigration clearly costs Arizona taxpayers more than any proposed tax hike. So I ask you this, if the Tea Party movement is about lower taxes and fiscal responsibility; should we or should we not get involved in this debate?

Bottom line, we can’t afford to pay for the illegal population that is here now . This administrations push for Amnesty will tear this County, this State and our Country apart. Amnesty will be a genie that cannot be placed back in the bottle.

FYI – Tea Party at the Capitol on Vets’ Day

United We Stand Tea Party (www.unitedwestandteaparty.org) is taking place right at the Arizona Capital from 12:30 – 2:30 PM. It is located at 1700 W. Washington in Phoenix.  It is on Veteran’s Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2009.

Because it is NON-PARTISAN, the organizers have invited Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. Sadly, they have not received any response from any Democrats.

Please, bring canned food for St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance.  Please, help others by bringing food for the needy. We need to help our neighbors.
