Gabriela Saucedo Mercer will fight for real immigration reform, endorses Krentz Plan

(TUCSON) – Congressman Raul Grijalva’s Republican challenger, Gabby Saucedo Mercer is calling for real immigration reform. The conservative activist, Saucedo Mercer, endorses the Krentz plan for border security and supports real immigration reform, including a documented worker program along the lines of the old “Bracero” guest worker program.

Grijalva continues his exploitation of difficult social issues for his political purposes. He does not seek solutions, only seeks to create more confusion and acrimony. Last week, Raul Grijalva, with his fellow progressives in Congress, filed a challenge to Arizona’s SB 1070. While many states across the country have similar laws, in April 2010, the Congressman called for a boycott of his own constituents in protest of the Arizona law.

In the press conference called to address his amicus brief, Grijalva and other progressives, including Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, exploited the recent killing of Trayvon Martin, the teenager killed in an altercation with a neighborhood-watch volunteer.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, said a law like SB 1070 will give police “the right to be judge and jury,” which could have disastrous results “in a nation where we all are different. In one case, a hoodie equals suspicion,” she said. “In another case, it is a tanness of your skin, or the coloration of your skin, or maybe the configuration of your face,” according to an AP article.

“To sensationalize and exploit a young man’s death, to argue against national security and the state of Arizona’s attempt to protect itself when the Federal government has failed to do so, is at best dangerous; it is shameful,” said Saucedo Mercer.

Just this month Emilia Palomino-Robles, 42 of Sonora, Mexico, was sentenced to prison, for her role in an attempt to purchase military-grade weaponry that was ultimately destined for export and transfer to a Mexican drug trafficking organization in the Republic of Mexico. The cartel attempted to buy:

  • A Dragon Fire anti-tank weapon;
  • Two AT-4s (an 84-mm unguided, portable, single-shot recoilless smoothbore weapon);
  • A Law Rocket (a Light Anti-Tank Weapon);
  • A Stinger Missile (a portable infrared homing anti-aircraft surface-to-air missile);
  • Two Def Tech grenade launchers and a dozen 40 mm grenades;
  • One M-60 machine gun;
  • One .30 caliber machine gun; and
  • Three cases of hand grenades

“Every day the people of Arizona and our country are at risk from the federal government’s failure to protect our national security and the security of our neighborhoods. Grijalva would rather play politics with our lives than get down to the business of supporting real immigration reform and border security.”

The Krentz plan was developed by Arizona cattleman in response to the shooting death of Southern Arizona rancher Rob Krentz.

Guest Opinion: Has Raul Grijalva Finally Met His Match?

By Andy Kirchoff

It’s time for another round of America’s favorite political quiz game, “Who’s that Politician?”

Blanca GuerraFor 100 points and a trip to Arizona: “This Grand Canyon State resident was one of 31 congressmen to vote to refuse to certify Ohio election results in 2004, and in 2008 was rated the most liberal congressman in the country by the National Journal. He even co-chairs the House Progressive Caucus with Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN).”

The correct answer is Rep. Raul Grijalva (minus 100 point for anyone who answered Gabrielle Giffords. She’s far more moderate in both her politics and persona). In spite of this deeply liberal worldview (and voting record to match), he has handily won re-election in his D+6 District since his first foray into Congress back in 2002. There are various reasons for his electoral success. I would speculate that part of his success is simply due to his visible contrast to the rest of the Arizona political class. In a political climate defined by the politics of immigration restriction, Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) is an anomaly. Rather than embrace the “stand with Arizona” motto of the tea party, he opted to organize a “big-business” boycott of the very state he represents in Congress. When SB1070 author and now former State Senator Russell Pearce (R-AZ) was pandering to neonazis and racists, Grijalva was organizing for the pro-reconquista group MEChA. If nothing else, Grijalva has been the voice of the disaffected fringe left of Arizona – such political posturing is bound to attract some political support, even as it alienates other potential allies.

A more likely (admittedly partial) explanation of Grijalva’s political success is his strong support from Veteran’s Groups. His record on veteran’s issues is indeed very commendable; he’s filed and/or supported many bills on behalf of Veterans over the years, including the popular REVAMP Act, a bill designed to repair crumbling Veteran’s facilities. Certainly, focusing constituent services on veteran’s assistance is a praiseworthy trait. Alas, “one-issue” voters do not a Republic make, and Grijalva’s attention to this issue can’t conceal his far left-of-center beliefs on other issues.

Enter Blanca Guerra, Arizona co-leader of Café Con Leche Republicans. She’s pro-immigration reform, but doesn’t embrace Rep. Grijalva’s economic extremism. She’s socially conservative with private sector experience and business acumen. She’s even able to neutralize Grijalva’s pro-veteran bona fides, as Blanca is a veteran of the United States Air Force. Grijalva’s renown and the overall partisan nature of the 7th CD will certainly be difficult to overcome. Nonetheless, Grijalva’s intemperate and ill-fated response to SB1070, when combined with his virulently left-wing ideology, could allow a Republican the opportunity to oust him from his seat. Needless to say, we’re very proud of Blanca here at CCLR, and we’d love nothing more than to see Blanca’s campaign send shockwaves throughout the Arizona political establishment. Here’s your chance, Arizona GOPers: let’s give Blanca the support she needs to win this thing!

Grijalva has little support from fellow Democrats, voters prefer Gabriela Saucedo Mercer

TUCSON, AZ – In a survey of Southern Arizona voters, over 78% of Democrats and Independents disapproved or strongly disapproved of Congressman Raul Grijalva’s performance as their congressman. Republican challenger, Gabriela Saucedo Mercer is the preferred choice of Independents and Republicans.

Congressman Grijalva called for a boycott of Arizona in his protest of immigration law passed by the state’s legislature. He struggled to secure a win in his last race for Congress against Republican opponent, Ruth McClung.

In the same poll, when asked which candidate voters favored between his new Republican opponent Gabriela Saucedo Mercer and Grijalva, 65% of Democrats and 43% of Independents choose Saucedo Mercer, and 30% of Democrats and 19% of Independents were undecided.

“The congressman turned his back on the people of Arizona. Rather than working with them on the difficult issues facing our region, he called for a boycott. At a time when other representatives were fighting to bring jobs back home to their states, Grijalva was destroying jobs in our state. When I get to the Capitol, I will work to create policies that will allow small business owners to put America and Arizona back to work,” said Saucedo Mercer.

The poll was commissioned by Arizona Strategies.

Calls for Arpaio Resignation Pure Political Opportunism

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 13, 2011
CONTACT: Chad Willems

PHOENIX, AZ – The Re-Elect Joe Arpaio 2012 campaign committee released the following statement today:

“Elected Democrat officials in Arizona are breathlessly calling for the immediate resignation of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio based on a four-year-old story involving sex crime investigations, which were reviewed and investigated by his office four years ago. These Arpaio detractors are also breathless in their insistence that none of this has to do with politics or partisanship.

The actions and words of Ruben Gallego, Randy Parraz, Steve Gallardo, Kyrsten Sinema, Congress members Ed Pastor and Raul Grijalva, and other elected Democrats, reek of political opportunism and partisanship. After all, these are the same Democrats that have been opposed to the Sheriff’s enforcement of illegal immigration laws for years.

The fact of the matter is this: the mishandling of these cases was brought to the Sheriff’s attention in 2007. Arpaio immediately ordered the cases re-opened and investigated. They have been brought to a conclusion. Further, the Sheriff is hiring an expert in the area of sex crimes investigations to train staff for future cases and will offer that service to other law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, the City of Phoenix has nearly 2,500 cases involving sex crimes and molestation currently under review. Many of these were never pursued or were mishandled. These cases surfaced only months ago, yet there is a deafening silence from these elected officials in calling for elected Mayor Phil Gordon, a Democrat ally, to immediately resign.

Why would they remain silent about Phil Gordon? Mayor Gordon was responsible for going to Washington several times to request that the Justice Department investigate Arpaio’s enforcement of state and federal immigration laws.

Arpaio has stated he will not criticize Valley law enforcement agencies that currently have the same problem his office experienced four years ago. However, for these elected officials and other activists to use these investigations, which have received extensive coverage media coverage through the years, as a pure political tool is disgusting.

Many of these Democrat politicians calling for Arpaio’s resignation are the same ones that have called upon the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate his office. But they have curiously remained silent on any calls for resignation from (Democrat) Attorney General Eric Holder and his role in the “Fast and Furious” scandal that resulted in the death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

The political left in this state feels emboldened by their recent success in removing Senator Russell Pearce from office. The leader of that effort, Randy Parraz, has publicly stated that his next target is Arpaio.

Tomorrow this group will attend and surely disrupt the Maricopa County Board of Supervisor’s meeting in a futile attempt to have Arpaio removed from office.

The transparent political stunt to resurrect a four-year-old story after steps have been taken to resolve the issue is shameful, desperate and again, disgusting.

The voters in Maricopa County will see this for what it is and reject this partisan witch hunt.”

Next month, Arpaio will announce plans for his political future.

NFIB: Thanks to Congress for Keeping NLRB in Check

NFIB Key Votes Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act to protect small employer rights

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 30, 2011 — The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) released the following statement by Senior Vice President for Federal Public Policy Susan Eckerly regarding today’s vote on H.R. 3094, the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act. The legislation was proposed in response to the National Labor Relation Board’s (NLRB) recent proposal on “ambush” elections and its decision in Specialty Healthcare to allow micro-unions, and is strongly supported by the NFIB.

“The NLRB is at it again. In an attempt to circumvent Congress—after it prevented the passage of card check legislation—the NLRB proposed the ‘ambush election rule,’ condensing the time period in which employers and employees have to prepare for a union election, so undermining the rights of both. And in its latest effort to blunt employer rights, the Board ruled in favor of so-called micro-unions, allowing unions to organize mini-bargaining units throughout a business. Unfortunately, the NLRB fails to realize that its pro-union actions will only create more uncertainty for small-business owners at a time when the country needs them to be creating more jobs.

“Fortunately, Congress has responded. In passing this bill, the House has demonstrated its understanding and concern for the unique demands that the NLRB’s irresponsible actions would place on small business. It is always a challenge for small business owners to keep current with new regulations and labor laws, especially in the current economic environment. It is the responsibility of our lawmakers to ensure that our nation’s job-creators are given the tools they need to succeed—not overwhelmed with rules and prohibitions that suppress growth and hiring. With so many small-business owners identifying economic and political uncertainty as their primary concern, NFIB is pleased that with its vote today, Congress has taken steps to renew small-business confidence.”

NFIB is the nation’s leading small-business advocacy organization, representing 350,000 small businesses around the country.

NFIB’s powerful network of grassroots activists send their views directly to state and federal lawmakers through our unique member-only ballot, thus playing a critical role in supporting America’s free enterprise system. Raul Grijalva Throws the Race Card – Actually He Has His Wife Do It

Tucson City Councilman Rirdard Fimbres’ blog site, has surprisingly posted an op-ed piece from Raul’s wife Mona Grijalva where she plays the race card against up-and-coming-on-strong Ruth McClung.  From the City Councilman’s website:

With only 23 days left to go before election day, there is a true sense of urgency and NOW is the time to really get busy!! The right wing sees Raul as vulnerable and is working really hard to win the race in CD7….and they have ALOT of money. They already have horrible, biggoted anti-Raul commercials on TV! They have already mailed anti-Raul flyers to thousands of homes in CD7! They had folks waving anti-Raul signs at moving traffic while screaming racist epithets in several areas of town last week!! As the attached article from Politico.com states, we are in a really, really tough race this year!!

Actually Ruth is kicking butt all over Raul, as her campaign has gone viral in the last 48 hours drawing attention from blog heavyweights Michelle Malkin, Hugh Hewitt, Gateway Pundit, Moonbattery and many more.  That endorsement from Sarah Palin helped things along with recent polling putting her up by 2 points over the one-who-would-boycott-his-own-state.

So it should come as no surprise that the now-desperate Raul has his wife throw the very predictable race card.  No proof, no pictures, no YouTube videos, nothing……nada,  just lies and innuendo.  Typical….

What is somewhat of a surprise is that a sitting city councilman would post the race-baiting piece on his personal blog.  Then again, Richard isn’t up for re-election this year.

Ruth McClung: Congressmen in Glass Houses Shouldn’t Throw Stones

Rep. Raul Grijalva, responding to census bureau statistics that show Arizona has the second highest poverty rate in the nation, blamed Governor Jan Brewer and the Arizona Legislature for our state’s problems. Perhaps Mr. Grijalva should take a closer look in the mirror before he starts casting aspersions elsewhere. After all, Raul Grijalva’s the one who called for a boycott of Arizona-at the height of the worst recession since the 1930s.

Grijalva says we need more “infrastructure investment, retirement protections, and more green energy jobs”. Let’s break that down.

Arizona is broke. Gov. Brewer and the State Legislature have had to make the largest budget cuts in Arizona history. Infrastructure investment right now means more debt we can’t afford.

Retirement protections? The State of Arizona is not responsible for retirement planning–Social Security is not a function of the state. So who’s retirement is he referring to? Not private citizens. No, he’s referring to his government union friends–who already make between 30% and 50% more than their counterparts in private industry.

More green energy jobs? Mr. Grijalva is apparently unaware that green energy is still not competitive in the marketplace. Until the technology develops enough to compete on it’s own, the only way to create “green energy” jobs is through massive government subsidies–more debt.

“Raul Grijalva has said this is a race about philosophies, and once again we see that’s absolutely true, ” said Ruth McClung. “I believe that the only way to solve our problems, get people back to work, and better their lives is to create economic growth by supporting small businesses and embracing the free market. Raul Grijalva believes in more government, more debt, and more irresponsible spending. Enough is enough, Congressman.”

Threats Absent of Any Proof is Political Theater

In the tradition of Democrat senators and Representatives who challenged the Washington, D.C., Tea Party attendees, walking through the crowds with cam recorders, trying to record epithets and racist comments without avail, Democrat Raul Grijalva claimed victimization from alleged threats and closed his Tuscon and Yuma offices. Yet there is not one scintilla of evidence that a threat was made.

 The one consistency among Democrats claiming victimization is the absence of evidence. Even the broken glass door at Gabrielle Giffords Tucson office is absent of evidence. Who destroyed the door? It could have been Giffords’ staffers at her behest. We’ll never know. There is no evidence. It is simply political theater.

 Now, Grijalva continues to work against the interests of Arizonans. First he called for a business boycott against Arizona, which harms even his own constituency. Now he has called for the federal government to limit cooperation with Arizona officials.

 In both instances, Grijalva has attempted to violate U.S. Constitutional rights of Arizonans by asking the federal government to treat Arizona and all Arizonans in a lesser manner than the federal government treats all other states. By urging a boycott, he is attempting to injure all Arizonans financially.

 By taking these actions Grijalva has violated his oath of office to protect and defend the United States, meaning all states including Arizona. Grijalva has engaged in a premeditated effort to harm all Arizonans. His hatred of Arizonans and Arizona is not political theater.

Bonus Time for AZ Congressional Staffers

Well, as always it’s party time for Congress, and the party never stops.

PHOENIX — While dealing with the “greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression”, seven Arizona congressional representatives handed out around $300,000 in staff bonuses in late 2008.

  • Former Republican Rep. Rick Renzi, who had already been indicted on fraud charges and was serving the final days of his term, was the most generous, splitting $136,000 among 12 staff members.
  • Among House members still in office, Rep. Raúl Grijalva, a Democrat, was tops, distributing $52,000 to 16 employees.
  • Republican Jeff Flake, who gave $36,000 to 13 employees
  • Democrat Harry Mitchell gave $38,000 to 10 employees.
  • Republican Rep. Trent Franks gave $22,000 to nine employees.
  • Republican John Shadegg gave $24,000 to nine employees.
  • Democrat Ed Pastor gave $13,500 to nine employees.
  • Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick took office in 2009, replacing Renzi. An e-mailed statement from chief of staff Michael Frias said Kirkpatrick likely would award bonuses for 2009, though a final decision hadn’t been made as of November.

But it’s not just about the bonuses. It’s about the overall staff sizes of those who “represent” us. Here’s the current breakdown for the AZ Representatives through 9/30/09.

D1 – Ann Kirkpatrick (D) $469,372
D2 – Trent Franks ® $727,127
D3 – John Shadegg ® $790,536
D4 – Ed Pastor (D) $607,993
D5 – Harry Mitchell (D) $654,128
D6 – Jeff Flake ® $728,819
D7 – Raul Grijalva (D) $808,687
D8 – Gabrielle Giffords (D) $761,579

Source: http://www.legistorm.com/browse_by_representative/index.html

That adds up to $5.5 million ANNUALLY.  Don’t know about you, but whenever I call my congressman’s office to get an answer regarding legislation, I can NEVER get a atrraight answer.  Just the usual ‘I can pass your message along to the congressman”.   That’s a lot of money for staffers who do nothing but act as answering machines and email spammers. So the next time your congressman tells you he’s down with the struggle of the American people or he feels the pain and challenges of “folks at the grass-roots” level, remember they are still doling out tax-dollar bonus money for their “peeps”. Nice work if you can get.
