JD Hayworth calls McCain to confess connection to $1.2 Billion Ponzi schemer, Scott Rothstein

Phoenix, AZ (JUNE 15) - U.S. Senate Candidate J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) today said he is dismayed by claims that Sen. John McCain does not know McCain’s number one contributor who is now serving 50 years in prison.

Hayworth called on McCain to admit he knows Scott Rothstein, the convicted Ponzi scheme artist, return all the dirty money he received over the years from investment scams, and promise to return and reject contributions from shady characters.

“Sen. McCain likes to talk about how character matters, how political leaders must rise above even the appearance of impropriety,” Hayworth said. “It’s time his actions match his rhetoric. It’s time for him to clean his own house and start acting like a U.S. Senator.”

Over the last week, five known and alleged Ponzi scheme runners who contributed to Sen. John McCain have come to light. Two are in jail. Three have been charged by authorities with profiting from elaborate con operations and some of the money was used to fund McCain and other political campaigns.

Even though Rothstein funneled over $1.1 million to McCain through a bundling loophole, McCain purportedly “could not pick him out of a lineup,” according to the Senator’s spokesman.

“That flies in the face of all logic and is an insult to the intelligence of Arizona voters,” Hayworth said. “Sen. McCain is trying to cover up his relationship with this convicted felon, but the ties are too deep. Rothstein was the number one contributor to the McCain Victory 2008 committee and the number one contributor to the McCain-Palin Victory 2008 committee.

“Sen. McCain is pictured with Rothstein several times, been to his house to raise money, and even instructed his staff to set up a separate accounting system to track Rothstein’s $1.1 million in political contributions,” Hayworth said.

Rothstein’s chief operating officer, who pleaded guilty to involvement in the Ponzi scheme, gave McCain $30,000. McCain was given additional political contributions by at least three other alleged Ponzi scheme artists who are now facing criminal charges.

“The money needs to be returned,” Hayworth said. “If his donors are criminals who swindled money out of innocent victims to McCain’s benefit, McCain should return all the dirty money to help the victims – not just a portion of it.

“And he needs to rise to a higher standard and publically apologize for taking and spending money obtained through illegal activity,” Hayworth said.

The Battle for Arizona: Endorsement Brings Stormy Weather To Grand Canyon State

Here is a link to the latest Caleb Report put out by Life Decisions International. Douglas Scott, another former Executive Director of Arizona Right to Life, heads LDI based in Virginia, published the latest newsletter which details much of what happened in the Arizona Right to Life endorsement. Already almost a dozen leaders of the organization have denounced the PAC decision and endorsed JD Hayworth. Here is an excerpt:

Arizona Right to Life (ARL) is facing intense criticism over the decision of its political action committee (PAC) to endorse U.S. Senator John S.McCain III in his bid for a fifth term.McCain actively promotes taxpayer funding of embryonic stem cell experimentation and has never been an enthusiastic supporter of pro-life initiatives. His career pro-life voting record averages at 77 percent—a figure that dropped to just 33 percent one year.

82% Say Deakin Should Drop out…

As of today, 82% of people that participated in the local poll labeled “Should Deakin drop out of the AZ Senate race?” say they would like Jim Deakin, candidate running for US Senate against John McCain and JD Hayworth, to withdraw from the race. Please take a moment and participate in this poll. (Note: You will only be able to vote once).

J.D. Hayworth Calls on John McCain To Stop Stalling On Debates

For Immediate Release: April 13, 2010

Introduces Debate Challenge Clock on Website

Phoenix, AZ (April 13) – Over 45 days after first challenging Senator John McCain to a series of debates, J.D. Hayworth has reissued his challenge and called for McCain to give the voters of Arizona the attention they deserve.

“Senator McCain clearly believes that spending millions of dollars on attack ads is what constitutes a campaign, but the voters of Arizona deserve much better from our part-time Senator.” said Hayworth.

Hayworth is critical of McCain for continuing to travel around the country while ignoring numerous opportunities to debate Hayworth in front of Arizona voters.

Hayworth went on to say, “It appears that our now-reluctant ‘maverick’ Senator just can’t get enough of the national limelight, but after more than ten years of caring more what voters outside of Arizona think than voters here at home, it is time for John McCain to give the voters of Arizona the same debates he demanded of Barack Obama.”

In McCain’s campaign against Obama, McCain called for ten debates that would allow the voters to hear directly from the candidates – without the empty sound bites and media-filtered exchanges that dominate elections.

Hayworth said, “I would be happy to accept the same scenario, but it would be even better if John McCain would agree to a debate in all 15 Arizona counties.”

“John McCain and J.D. Hayworth have very real differences on a variety of issues, and the voters deserve to hear directly from the candidates.” said David Payne, Hayworth’s campaign manager. “Whether the issue is McCain’s votes for amnesty, cap & trade, bank bailouts, or so many others, I can understand why he would not want to debate a consistent conservative like J.D., but the people of Arizona, like people all over America, are getting very tired of career politicians who do not believe they should be held accountable.”

To help voters track how long McCain has been avoiding debates, the Hayworth campaign has launched a John McCain Debate challenge clock on its website, www.JDforSenate.com.

Does Kyl, McCain coming out against sales tax hike doom Prop. 100, Brewer’s primary hopes?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, March 8, 2010

JOINT STATEMENT BY SENATORS JOHN McCAIN AND JON KYL REGARDING PROP. 100

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) released the following joint statement regarding Proposition 100:

“We appreciate the hard work that the Governor and the Legislature have done to try to solve the state’s fiscal problems, and though we hadn’t planned to comment on what is rightly a state issue – the proposed increase in the state’s sales tax – we’ve been asked by various news media for our views.

“We support the right of Arizonans to decide the issue of a short-term sales tax increase on the local level.  However, as Arizonans and Americans across our nation continue to face perilous economic times, we fundamentally oppose increasing taxes on small businesses and working families.

“We recognize the difficult fiscal situation Arizona finds itself in and we appreciate the tireless dedication by our state’s elected officials to solve the budget problems.”

Please post the McCain vs. Hayworth comments on the prior post… here, let’s discuss what the Sonoran Alliance‘s readership thinks of the prospects for passage of Proposition 100… and, for that matter, the prospects for Jan Brewer’s campaign to capture the GOP nomination for governor if the sales tax increase fails on May 18th?   — MBW

Hayworth vs. McCain

JD Hayworth

For Immediate Release: February 2, 2010

J.D. Hayworth To Formally Launch Conservative Challenge To John McCain On February 15th

PHOENIX, ARIZONA. FEBRUARY 2, 2010. After filing the necessary paperwork last week, conservative J.D. Hayworth will formally launch his Republican primary challenge to 24-year incumbent John McCain on February 15th.

A temporary web site — www.JD2010.com — has been established to collect donations prior to the launch of the campaign and permanent web site on February 15th.

More announcement details will be released in the coming days.

Since leaving his radio talk show to pursue this conservative challenge, Hayworth has already garnered endorsements, donations and grassroots enthusiasm such as his straw poll thumping of Senator McCain at the Maricopa County Republican Party’s annual meeting ten days ago.

Vulnerable to the more conservative Hayworth on taxes, social issues and illegal immigration, McCain has resorted to attacking Hayworth on spending, despite Hayworth having a better lifetime rating from Citizens Against Government Waste.

McCain also voted for the $850 billion bailout of the big banks, which included $150 billion in pork, proposed a $300 billion bailout for mortgage lenders and, according to the Heritage Foundation, sponsored an amnesty bill in 2007 that would have cost taxpayers $2.6 trillion over the long-term.

“Chuck Todd and many others are right. This will be one of the hottest races in the country because this will be democracy at its very best. It will be an intense debate between a moderate with a transparent election year conversion and a conservative willing to respect but also stand up to the flip-flops and unreliability of a moderate masquerading as a maverick,”. Hayworth said.

“John, long a crusader against big money in politics will, ironically, try to use his special interest millions to silence our enthusiastic conservative support,” Hayworth said. “Arizonans, who are tired of a senator seeking to please the Washington elites, will rally to our cause and lead us to victory August 24th.”

US Senator Janet Napolitano?

This is going to be one of those SWAG post.

With the recent security breech at the White House, I have to wonder if Janet Napolitano is getting homesick? She may even be reading the recent polling data here in Arizona showing Terry Goddard leading in the race for Governor and Senator John McCain vulnerable in his re-election bid.

And with Arizona Democrats looking for someone “inspiring” to lead off the November 2010 ticket, could there be an effort to bring Janet home to run against John McCain?

She’s already proven herself three times (once for AG and twice for Governor). Could her duty at Department of Homeland Security be brief?

Let’s just say, I would not be surprised to see Janet return to Arizona and take on John McCain next year…

McCain to Remake GOP in “His Own Image”

I almost gave myself a “noser” when I saw this article in the Politico.

Fresh from a humbling loss in last year’s presidential election, Sen. John McCain is working behind-the-scenes to reshape the Republican Party in his own center-right image.

In his own image?  So even with the humbling loss, John still believes that he is a “player”. Does the good senator not recall that his own center-right image cost the GOP the election?;  That his “center-right image” is nowhere to be seen in any Town-Hall or Tea Party event, nor mirrored anywhere in the 912 Project March on Washington DC earlier this year?  Has he not heard a single word that conservatives have said through-out the summer recess?

I am trying to understand from where the Senator’s thought process would originate. I can only conclude that either he,

  • A:  has become as narcissistic as the sitting president.
  • B:  is suffering from some form of dementia.
  • C:  agrees with Jimmy Carter; that this summer of Town-Hallers and Tea Party participants were a bunch of racists.

Let’s start with option A, Narcissistic:  The Politico writes:

Those close to McCain say that, as much as anything else, his burgeoning political role reflects a determination he reached shortly after the conclusion of the presidential contest[which he lost]—that he would remain a factor on Capitol Hill.

Option B, Dementia:

In McCain’s case, that means backing conservative pragmatists and moderates.  “I think he’s endorsed people with center-right politics because he has an understanding that the party is in trouble with certain demographics and wants to have a tone that would allow us to grow,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina Republican who is McCain’s closest friend and ally in the Senate.

If he is listening to Lindsey Graham-nsty, it would help to clarify from where John’s self-centered hallucinations materialize.  Let us not forget the Lindsey Graham-nsty record;

  • willing to compromise on the health-care bill;
  • believes that the banks should be nationalized;
  • voted for Sotomayor after saying he was deeply troubled by her;
  • voted for amnesty for illegal aliens immigrants.

Poor company to be keeping, Senator McCain.

Or Option C, We are all racists: John Weaver, a longtime McCain friend and strategist said,

“At a time when our party is struggling and has a lot of shrill voices and aggressive voices, he’s one that can expand our party”.

McCain demonstrates that he is anything but a conservative, confirmed last week when he endorsed GOP Rep. Jerry Moran in the Kansas Senate primary campaign against the outspoken conservative, Rep. Todd Tiahrt. Later Mccain went on to host a Capitol Hill fundraiser for Moran.  (Hey John, you do know your state is Arizona, don’t you?)

John McCain was the loser in the presidential election, and in the real world, most people do not spend too much time to seek out the opinions of the guy who came in second in a race of two.  Well, no one except for the GOP.  Back to John Weaver:

“John remains the titular head of the Republican Party and he will be until there’s a new nominee”.

Wow, that’s great Mr. Weaver.  How’s that working out for you anyway?  At last count the GOP, under the “titular” leadership of John McCain has left us in charge of, well, absolutely friggin’ nothing!  The White House, the House  and the Senate are all gone.  BHO and his buds are in charge of everything now.  Having the GOP reshaped into the “right-centered image” of John McCain could be likened to;

  • Taking cooking lessons from Hannibal Lecter.
  • Taking child-rearing classes from Michael Jackson.
  • Taking wide receiver lessons from Terrell Owens.
  • Taking financial advice from Bernie Madoff.
  • Taking marriage classes from Madonna.
  • Taking work-place sensitivity classes from David Letterman.

In a recent Rasmusen poll , only 33% of Arizonans believe McCain “has done a good job representing GOP values”.   61% of Arizona Republicans think McCain has lost touch with those in his own party. (Ya think?)

Senator McCain has not only lost touch with Arizona Republicans and conservatives in general, it is apparent that he has completely lost touch with Planet Earth.  For Senator McCain to still believe that he is relevant in this current season, shows how out of touch he really has become.  His “center-right image”, as he likes to describe it, not only cost the GOP the last election, but has now helped put America on the edge of ruin at the hands of the current administration.  Come the fall of 2010,  Arizona residents need to put John McCain out to pasture.

You can let John hear your shrill voice at (202) 224-223.

The Old Switcharoo?

Lots of rumors flying in the last 24 hours after Joe Biden floated the trial balloon that Hillary would be a better pick for VP.

Will an “October Surprise” cause the whole Presidential race to go sideways? Hillary could be waiting in the wings as Democrats try to change the game with a political switcharoo.

I’ve always held that Obama would pick Clinton as VP if he really wanted to win but he made a critical mistake that has resulted in tremendous remorse amongst Democrats. McCain then siezed the moment by choosing a candidate who ignited the GOP.

With time running out, Obama, Biden and Clinton may be scheming to throw one more curve ball in the game especially with early voting starting in early October.

Shadegg Standing by to Shift Political Chessboard

Politicker AZ has a brief post this morning about Congressman John Shadegg’s willingness to succeed John McCain should he win the Presidency. Shadegg is clearly the obvious and best choice for that seat and you won’t hear any objections from me. So I’ll leave that political contest as a given. But if you look beyond the successor of John McCain the vacancy left in CD-3 will place Arizona’s political chessboard in motion creating all kinds of excitement amongst politicos. State legislators (Waring/Gorman/Allen) and city councilman (Baier/Simplot) among others (Hatch-Miller) will scramble to jump in this race. School board members will scramble to follow state legislative seats and on and on… So I’m throwing it out to all you political observers – what kind of matrix can we expect to see when John McCain becomes President and John Shadegg becomes the next Senator from Arizona?
