Ronald Reagan said, “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.” Yet Jesse Kelly, in his April 29th press release, attacked Republican Jeff Flake, comparing him to Congressman Charlie Rangel, who is finally sinking in a sea of ethics charges. Here is part of Kelly’s press release:
“Tucson, AZ On April 22nd, Jonathan Paton attacked Representative Gabrielle Giffords for supporting the STRIVE Act. Paton benefactor and patron, Representative Jeff Flake is also a major sponsor of the STRIVE Act. How can Paton attack Giffords over this issue when one of his major supporters sponsored the very same bill? Worse yet, part of the money that Paton raised out of Maricopa County came from Jeff Flake’s campaign, no doubt given by people who supported Flake’s open endorsement of Amnesty! Just as Giffords returned the tainted donations from Representative Charles Rangel, Paton should return the Flake Amnesty funds.”
Does this mean that the money Jesse Kelly received from a fundraiser with Tom Tancredo, who has said SB1070 goes too far, should be returned to the people in that fundraiser? “People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones,” as the old adage goes.
What makes this interesting, though, is that Jesse Kelly apparently sought Jeff Flake’s endorsement but did not receive it. The Tucson Weekly also revealed that Jesse Kelly sought John McCain’s endorsement but Kelly was rebuffed.
Then Kelly denied he had asked for the endorsement but the Tucson Weekly quoted the Kelly campaign’s email asking for the endorsement. When Kelly did not receive McCain’s endorsement he endorsed J.D. Hayworth.
History appears to be repeating itself with Jeff Flake. Kelly’s request for endorsement is denied, now he attacks Jeff Flake, comparing him to Charlie Rangel?
The Arizona Daily Star also reported, “Republican Jesse Kelly in Congressional District 8 has been touting the support of U.S. Rep. Mike Pence, rumored as a possible future House speaker or 2012 presidential wannabe. So it drew some interest when the Indiana politician’s name disappeared from a list of endorsements on Kelly’s website. ‘The congressman has made no endorsement in that congressional race,’ said Bill Smith, Pence’s chief of staff, adding that his office asked that the Pence’s name be removed.” Will Jesse Kelly next attack Mike Pence on some goofy charge?
All Republican candidates in CD8 should stick to the facts, take the high road and observe Ronald Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment.

TUCSON, AZ. Representative Gabrielle Giffords should immediately resign as Chair of the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee. She has a clear conflict of interest from the tens of thousands of dollars her campaign has received from the aerospace industry. She took in over $10,000 in one day alone from people at large corporations such as ATK, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and United Space Alliance. These are companies who stand to make or lose millions of dollars based on decisions made by her subcommittee.
Jesse Kelly stated, “It is disgraceful that Representative Giffords has allowed herself to be compromised by special interests. How can she possibly look out for the taxpayers in District 8 when she is receiving money from the very corporations that she is supposed to oversee? It is no wonder she supported an over-budget and misguided program like the Ares 1 rocket.”
A December 20th article in the Orlando Sentinel explored a possible conflict of interest with her husband’s line of work. Now we realize the true conflict comes from large campaign donations by corporate special interests.
Representative Giffords should immediately resign from the Space and Aeronautics subcommittee or return the donations from all corporations that have business before the subcommittee.

TUCSON, AZ Jesse Kelly was excited about the outcome of tonight’s debate in Vail, AZ. The audience responded enthusiastically to Jesse’s clear answers to the questions and conservative views on the issues.
“As attendees left the debate, our table was mobbed with people taking literature and materials. It was a great night and fits right into our strategy for victory in November,” stated Jesse. Even a Democrat came up to Jesse’s table and stated that he would be voting for him in the fall. Another voter commented, “Jesse clearly led with the most enthusiasm and energy. He is the one who can beat Giffords.”

It’s official. After weeks of political speculation, State Senator Jonathan Paton has entered the Republican Primary in Southern Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. (Sonoran Alliance was one of the first to bring the story back in November.) We also received a good indication yesterday when State Representative Frank Antenori announced his intention to seek the Paton’s Senate seat.
With Paton’s entry into the race, the GOP primary becomes even more crowded as early announced candidate and front runner, Jesse Kelly, finds himself in a race with a higher profile Republican. Kelly has already raised $250,000 and garnered the support of Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Congressman Trent Franks. Paton’s entry will bring Congressman Jeff Flake’s support to the race.
We can also expect the Pima County GOP faithful to be further splintered over Paton’s arrival to the race with some claiming he is the only Republican likely to defeat Gabrielle Giffords. However unlike time’s past in Pima County politics, the Tea Party movement has now become a prominent player in Tucson politics. Whether or not this group will mobilize behind a known commodity in Paton or back an outsider challenger in Jesse Kelly is the big question.
Other notable Republican candidates already in the hunt for Gifford’s seat included Brian Miller, Andy Goss and Tom Carlson.

The “new and improved” Tucson Citizen blog has a post about our recent mention of Republican Jesse Kelly’s campaign ad on the top of the Drudge Report.
The TC post begins with an observation about Rum, Romanism and Rebellion’s assertion that Kelly is a political newcomer, a political novice, against his gal, Gabby Giffords. The most interesting statement in the TC post is this:
Since Ted brought up the subject, let’s look at what Tim Bee was doing back in June of 2007. He was still President of the Arizona Senate and talking about his ability to work with Democrats. Because he decided to stay in the Senate he was not able to campaign. He did not enter the race until January, 2008 but he spent most of that year tangled up with a budget battle much worse than the one from 2007.
Based on what I’m seeing, the CD-8 race is shaping up to be extremely competitive. There is a world of difference between Tim Bee and Jesse Kelly. The Dems just don’t realize it yet.
Look who’s buying advertising on Drudge Report. And I’m not talking about the wierd lady on Britain’s Got Talent. This is the latest screenshot.
In case you can’t read the ad at the top of Drudge Report, it’s an ad for Jesse Kelly’s campaign committee. Jesse is running for Congress in Arizona’s congressional district 8 against the astronaut’s wife, Gabrielle Giffords.
This race is going to get very serious.
