Tempe Police Report does not Bode Well for Mitchell Campaign Crime Record, Democrat Activist Charged with Criminal Damage to Schweikert Signs

(Scottsdale, AZ) In what has been a very rocky career path for Harry Mitchell and his opponent’s campaign signs, a developing story out of the Tempe Police Department this morning does not bode well for Congressman Mitchell’s record.

We all remember this:

“I did it,” said Harry Mitchell (Richard Ruelas, “Punishing a Statuesque Senator,” Arizona Republic, 2/5/10). The answer was in response to claims that Mitchell had been stealing his political opponent Gary Richardson’s campaign signs in 2000.

There was no question that Congressman Mitchell broke the law then.

Now, a police report out this morning reveals that Mitchell’s campaign appears to be up to their old tricks, yet again.

“On 10/23/10 around 0855 hours, [name withheld] committed criminal damage” says the police report (Tempe Police Department, 10/23/10, 10-163-420). The signs in question are the property of David Schweikert’s campaign. Below are images of the kind of damage that has been occurring.

“We are very disappointed to see this kind of behavior from the other side. Mitchell’s campaign team knows better,” said Oliver Schwab, Schweikert campaign manager.

“Sadly, this behavior has gone on since our primary and anyone who is interested can see this September Press Release, “The Return of the Sign Bandit” where our campaign announced concern,” continued Schwab.

“Vandalism and criminal destruction of another campaign’s property does not leave the feeling that our free speech is safe in our community,” continued Schwab. “The good news is that we caught them.”

Mitchell’s State of the District Address – AKA An Excuse for Doing Nothing

David Schweikert

For Immediate Release: February 2, 2010

Making one of his increasingly rare public appearances after his unpopular vote for the Obama-Pelosi nationalized healthcare plan opposed by so many in his own district, Congressman Harry Mitchell delivered his so-called “State of the District” address that ended up being nothing more than a list of excuses for the do-nothing Democratic Congress’ failure to accomplish anything to substantively improve the economy despite having total control of the federal government.

In his remarks, Mitchell claims that his party is “frustrated by the inability to get anything done,” while strangely ignoring that with total control of the federal government they only have themselves to blame.

“Harry Mitchell stated that this year is the year that elected leaders have to get their priorities straight,” said David Schweikert. “My question and I am sure the question that thousands of Arizonans have about Congressman Mitchell and his Democratic colleagues is simple – what were they spending the last year doing?

“We have an economy that is suffering greatly and thousands of Arizonans out of work,” Schweikert continued, “and yet Mitchell and the Democrats have done very little, if anything about it except waste billion of dollars and engage in a quixotic effort to pass a liberal agenda opposed by the majority of Americans.

“In his speech, Congressman Mitchell also went on to extol the importance and virtues of small businesses here in Arizona while glossing over the fact that he voted for a nationalized healthcare plan that will, if it becomes law, devastate many of those same small businesses with crushing mandates and higher taxes.

“I share Congressman Mitchell’s stated desire to improve the economy and bring more jobs to Arizona, but at some point there he needs to get past the rhetoric and begin to show results. Results, that unfortunately for the citizens of Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District, are few and far between for Congressman Mitchell.”

Bonus Time for AZ Congressional Staffers

Well, as always it’s party time for Congress, and the party never stops.

PHOENIX — While dealing with the “greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression”, seven Arizona congressional representatives handed out around $300,000 in staff bonuses in late 2008.

  • Former Republican Rep. Rick Renzi, who had already been indicted on fraud charges and was serving the final days of his term, was the most generous, splitting $136,000 among 12 staff members.
  • Among House members still in office, Rep. Raúl Grijalva, a Democrat, was tops, distributing $52,000 to 16 employees.
  • Republican Jeff Flake, who gave $36,000 to 13 employees
  • Democrat Harry Mitchell gave $38,000 to 10 employees.
  • Republican Rep. Trent Franks gave $22,000 to nine employees.
  • Republican John Shadegg gave $24,000 to nine employees.
  • Democrat Ed Pastor gave $13,500 to nine employees.
  • Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick took office in 2009, replacing Renzi. An e-mailed statement from chief of staff Michael Frias said Kirkpatrick likely would award bonuses for 2009, though a final decision hadn’t been made as of November.

But it’s not just about the bonuses. It’s about the overall staff sizes of those who “represent” us. Here’s the current breakdown for the AZ Representatives through 9/30/09.

D1 – Ann Kirkpatrick (D) $469,372
D2 – Trent Franks ® $727,127
D3 – John Shadegg ® $790,536
D4 – Ed Pastor (D) $607,993
D5 – Harry Mitchell (D) $654,128
D6 – Jeff Flake ® $728,819
D7 – Raul Grijalva (D) $808,687
D8 – Gabrielle Giffords (D) $761,579

That adds up to $5.5 million ANNUALLY.  Don’t know about you, but whenever I call my congressman’s office to get an answer regarding legislation, I can NEVER get a atrraight answer.  Just the usual ‘I can pass your message along to the congressman”.   That’s a lot of money for staffers who do nothing but act as answering machines and email spammers. So the next time your congressman tells you he’s down with the struggle of the American people or he feels the pain and challenges of “folks at the grass-roots” level, remember they are still doling out tax-dollar bonus money for their “peeps”. Nice work if you can get.

Pro-Abortion Advocates Issue Bloodthirsty Mailer

The latest bloodthirsty mailer put out by the Democrats and their pro-abortion advocates is a pretty typical campaign tactic used during the final days of a campaign. In this latest piece they attempt to create fear and panic by misleading and patronizing women to think they are losing some sacred rite. It’s as if the very survival of abortion-on-demand teeters at the edge of oblivion by the election of David Schweikert.

The truth is that David Schweikert can do NOTHING to overturn Roe v. Wade. That ruling can only be overturned by the US Supreme Court and the High Court does not appear to be heading that direction any time soon, especially if Barack Obama becomes the next President.

Furthermore, David Schweikert is running for a congressional seat. He can have no impact on approving a nomination to the Supreme Court. That approval actually takes place in the US Senate. Given the trajectory of the national election, it is unlikely that any conservative pro-life, anti-Roe judicial candidate will be nominated and submitted to the Senate – and that there will be enough pro-life, conservative Senators in the Senate to even approve such a nominee.

Let’s face it, a Barack Obama Administration will be in league with a pro-abortion Senate and there is no way they will give the time of day to a pro-life judicial nominee.

But even if the High Court did decide to overturn Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, the states would each be compelled to take up the issue in their respective legislative bodies! This is the big lie put out by the abortion industry and their advocates. They would have you believe that abortion would be made illegal across the country – a bold faced lie!

For anyone who has been involved with this issue intimately, this is actually where the real battle will occur as state legislators will be required to address the issue of reconciling scientific facts with the law.

The bottom line is that David Schweikert will have no opportunity or ability to single-handedly overturn Roe v. Wade.

If the issue of abortion is your threshold issue, your true concern really is where Harry Mitchell stands. Mitchell has been endorsed and financially supported by the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) and Planned Parenthood’s Political Action Committee. (Planned Parenthood kills more unborn babies than any other abortion provider in the country.)

This degree of pro-abortion support does not come easy.

Any candidate who receives the full-blown support of the abortion industry must support the horrifying partial birth abortion procedure. Harry Mitchell has pledged to vote AGAINST a ban on Partial Birth Abortion. Harry Mitchell opposes parental consent and notice. Harry Mitchell opposes a woman’s right to access accurate and timely medical information about abortion, its risks and alternatives. Harry Mitchell opposes spousal consent and notification. Harry Mitchell opposes regulation of abortion clinics. Harry Mitchell opposes a prohibition on transporting minor girls across state lines to get an abortion without parental knowledge. Harry Mitchell opposes the born alive infant protection act. Harry Mitchell supports the Freedom of Choice Act which allows abortion for any reason or no reason at all throughout all nine months of pregnancy. And Harry Mitchell supports your tax dollars going to pay for abortions here in the states and internationally! (NARAL on Harry Mitchell)

If anyone is extreme on the issue of abortion, it is Harry Mitchell!

While David Schweikert is a proven and trustworthy advocate for the unborn and their mothers, his efforts and impact will be to reform Congress and to restore fiscal sanity to our federal budget. Any efforts to bring sanity and reasonable legislation to this issue will find a vote of support by David Schweikert but that’s if a pro-abortion Congress even allows it a committee hearing. Don’t expect that to happen anytime soon if the Congress is controlled by Democrats.

Top 10 Reasons NOT to Vote for Harry Mitchell this Election – #7

Here is the latest press release from the David Schweikert campaign.

Reason # 7 – Taxation

Reducing the burden that taxes place on you and your family will be one of my top priorities in Congress.  I believe that you and your family know better than the government how to spend your money.  As a conservative, let me be clear.  Cutting taxes is fundamental!  We have seen first hand time and again how broad based tax cuts help grow our economy and provide new jobs.

Our tax system is upside down.  It rewards spending and punishes saving.  In Congress, I will work to make all existing tax cuts permanent.  I will push to reduce capital gains taxes so that people are encouraged to save and invest.  I will work to eliminate the incredibly unfair alternative minimum tax that is hitting far too many middle class families in our district. In addition, I will vote to eliminate the death tax in order to save small family businesses, farms and ranches.

The optimal tax system would be one with a very low rate and broad based –  one in which the government doesn’t pick winners and losers by providing  all kinds of loopholes and gimmicks, as the current system does. A flat tax or a national consumption tax that replaces the current income tax could be viable proposal. While a transition to a different form of taxation will require careful study and thought, it is absolutely unbelievable that the average taxpayer works nearly half a year just to pay off their tax debt to various forms of government.

Unlike some politicians, I am proud to say that I am a firm believer in the virtue of reducing taxes.  As your next Congressman, you can count on me to be a committed advocate for lower taxes.

Schweikert Releases New Campaign Ad

Here is the latest campaign ad released by the David Schweikert campaign committee. This ad focuses on David Schweikert’s record on reform including, cutting taxes, fighting corruption and protected taxpayers.

The ad also points out that liberal Democrat Harry Mitchell is bankrolled by labor union bosses, voted against helping small businesses, voted higher taxes on working familes, put our jobs at risk and hurt our retirement savings.

Press Release: Schweikert to Mitchell: Return Nancy’s Money

Schweikert says opponent has chance to return tainted campaign contributions tonight.

Scottsdale, AZ – District Five Congressional candidate David Schweikert is urging his opponent to return tainted campaign contributions. Schweikert believes tonight would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

“Harry Mitchell has taken $20,000 in campaign contributions from Nancy Pelosi’s Political Action Committee.  This is the same committee that inappropriately funneled more than $100,000 to Pelosi’s husband,” Schweikert said.  “Nancy Pelosi is now visiting Arizona to prop up two captive campaigns and there’s no excuse why Mitchell can’t drive to this event and give Pelosi her money back. Her leadership in Congress has been marred by ethical lapses such as this, and the current Congressman from the Fifth District has said and done nothing to dispel the notion that he is anything but her loyal subject.”

Schweikert added, “It would also be appropriate if Mitchell returned the $28,000 he’s taken from Congressman Charlie Rangel, Chairman of the House tax-writing Ways & Means Committee who is under an ethics investigation for failing to pay his own taxes. Returning these tainted dollars might help, but with 11 days and counting since this was brought to light, I won’t hold my breath. Apparently, Mitchell has lost his sense of ethics since he ran in 2006. He should follow the lead of Congressman Dave Loebsack and Michael Skelly who have already given the tainted contributions back.”

Schweikert to Mitchell: “Return The Money, Harry!”

Mitchell Called On To Return Charlie Rangel’s $28,000 – House Ethics Committee Forming Investigative Panel

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – In response to news that the House Ethics Committee is forming an investigative panel into Rep. Charles B. Rangel’s (D-NY) tax scandal, David Schweikert is calling on Rep. Harry Mitchell to return Rangel’s campaign donations.

“Apparently, Charlie Rangel forgot to pay his taxes, but remembered to give Harry Mitchell $28,000” said spokeswoman Lauren C. Barnett.

“If Harry Mitchell truly believes in ethical reform, he should return the money.  It’s never too late to do the right thing,” said David Schweikert

In 2006 and 2008, Rangel’s congressional committee[i] contributed a total of $8,000 to Harry Mitchell’s campaign. Rangel’s political action committee also contributed a sum of $20,000[ii] to the Mitchell campaign coffers.

Recently, Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA) returned his campaign contributions to Rangel.

Barnett continued, “It is troubling that Harry Mitchell voted 1 week ago to block a House ethics investigation and against removing Rangel from the powerful Ways and Means Committee.”[iii]

“The fact that Mitchell refuses to return the tainted money is further evidence Mitchell is incapable of reforming Washington.  Money for his re-election is apparently more important than being an independent voice for the people of Arizona’s 5th Congressional District,” said Barnett.

Barnett concluded, “We need to elect true reformers, like David Schweikert, to Congress.”

As he did in the Arizona legislature, David Schweikert will push for real reform to restore integrity and honor to Congress.

Schweikert Calls for Negative Attacks to Cease

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Today, the David Schweikert for Congress campaign, asks Rep. Mitchell to cease the negative television attacks.

Press Secretary Lauren C. Barnett said, “Clearly, national Democrats, notably the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee, are panicking.  They know Rep. Mitchell is beatable.”

The Schweikert campaign strongly denounces the false claims made in the DCCC advertisement.  In response, Schweikert stated, “As Treasurer, I proudly stand by my record of protecting the taxpayers of Maricopa County.”

Candidate David Schweikert continues to run a positive campaign focused on fiscal discipline, responsible energy policy (including domestic drilling) and reforming business-as-usual in Congress.

Schweikert said, “We have real problems in America.  Rep. Mitchell and I have an honest disagreement about how to solve those issues.  Let’s start the dialogue and stop the mudslinging.”
