Colonel Wendy Rogers Shatters Own Record with Q2 Fundraising

(Flagstaff, AZ) – Lt Col (ret) Wendy Rogers demonstrated impressive momentum in her second quarter fundraising. Rogers raised nearly $210,000 from a diverse group of nearly 500 total donors. She also has over $275,000 cash on hand as the August Primary Election approaches.

“We are winning. Our momentum builds daily. We’ve drawn increasing support from all over the country because voters want more operational military veterans in Congress. National security and the border are prime concerns,” Rogers stated. “Hardworking Americans vote for me with donations to make America great again,” she said.

Last week, two sisters of Colonel Rogers’ opponent, Paul Babeu, endorsed Rogers. Both Lucy Babeu and Veronica Babeu Keating went public in their support for Rogers as they criticized their brother, Paul Babeu, for being unfit to hold office. The Babeu sisters continue to release documents and video footage which expose their brother for having lied about his role as head of a Massachusetts boarding school that eventually was shuttered due to multiple reports of child abuse. In January, Colonel Rogers demanded that Sheriff Paul Babeu drop out of the race when new video footage surfaced.

Lt Col (ret) Wendy Rogers was one of the Air Force’s first women pilots. She and and her husband Hal are both retired career US Air Force officers. Since 1997, they’ve owned a home inspection business covering four counties spanning northern to southern Arizona. Colonel Rogers is a businesswoman, teacher, social worker, mother and grandmother. She and Hal own their retirement home in the midst of where they do business in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Priorities: Governing vs. Campaigning

It’s that weird time of the political season when conflicts arise revealing where politicians’ priorities really are.

Yesterday, leaders of the Arizona House and Senate reached a deal on how to divvy up sections of Governor Ducey’s budget proposal. That deal will be revealed today.

Setting aside the details of the deal, it’s worth pointing out where leaders of both chambers are spending their time as this process unfolds.

Every legislator acknowledges that the most important part of their job is to pass a budget that establishes the financial priorities for the State of Arizona. It’s what voters elect candidates to do and it’s the epitome of responsibility for legislators once elected.

Citizens would think and expect leadership in the House and Senate to treat this constitutional obligation with the utmost attention. Apparently that obligation can take a back seat  if you’re a candidate for another office while holding down your leadership position in the legislature.

House Speaker David Gowan got it right (although he is avoiding interaction with members of the media these days) when he skipped a CD-1 candidate forum in Casa Grande Monday night. He stuck around the legislature to make sure the House wrapped up the budget deal.

It wasn’t the same on the Senate side. Senate President Andy Biggs was nowhere to be found in the State of Arizona. Instead, he is making the rounds in Washington, DC trying to raise money for his next government gig. According to the Arizona Republic:

Senate Majority Leader Steve Yarbrough, R-Chandler — who was acting as Senate president while Andy Biggs was in Washington, D.C., Monday fundraising for a congressional campaign… 

Senate President Biggs who has become the professional career politician obviously feels the need to fly back to Washington, rub elbows with lobbyists and return home with a bundle of campaign cash.

Meanwhile, his colleagues in the House and Senate will work through the details on how best to spend Arizona taxpayer dollars.

It’s all about priorities.

Breaks Yet another Fundraising Record

PHOENIX, AZ – Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s re-election campaign today announced their fundraising haul for 2013. The Elect Sheriff Joe Arpaio committee raised more than $3.5 million in the last twelve months, setting another record for a county race.

The committee collected over 78,000 contributions, totaling $3,550,100.87. Based on these figures, the average contribution was approximately $45.00.

The overwhelming majority (99.5%) of the contributions received were under the old limits of $450 per person before the Arizona Supreme Court upheld the new limits of $5,000 per person.

Chad Willems, Arpaio’s campaign manager, stated, “We continue to be blown away by the depth and breadth of support for Sheriff Joe. These numbers tell the story that the Sheriff and his policies are more popular than ever.”

Arpaio said, “I am so grateful for the outpouring of support from so many generous people. It emboldens me to know that my supporters are there for me especially when faced with a recall election and being maliciously targeted by the federal government just for doing my job.”

He continued, “Every four years, my supporters encourage me to run for Governor. Based on these fundraising numbers and knowing I could be competitive, I will have to give it serious consideration.”

Sheriff Joe Arpaio was re-elected to a sixth term in November 2012.
