Statement by Governor Jan Brewer Regarding President Obama’s Visit to Arizona

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 25, 2012
CONTACT: Matthew Benson

“I welcomed President Obama to Arizona this afternoon, and we spent a few moments discussing this state’s economic turnaround. This was the President’s opportunity to see the Arizona Comeback firsthand.

“First, let me say I don’t doubt that the President wants what he believes is best for this country. He and I simply have starkly different visions of what that is.

“The President and I each took office in January 2009. We each stepped into grim circumstances. Just speaking for Arizona, I inherited a per capita state-budget deficit judged among the worst in the country, an economy in freefall and a clobbered housing market.

“My first action as Governor was to issue a regulatory moratorium so that state government could not impose any more needless rules on business. The President’s first move was to rush through an $800 billion stimulus spending plan that saddled the nation with more debt.

“Here in Arizona, we passed a historic economic package that included corporate tax reductions and targeted job incentives that make our state among the nation’s most inviting for business investment and relocation. In Washington, D.C., the President spent the better part of two years pushing a health care scheme that reduces consumer choice and saddles states with tens of billions in additional costs.

“This much is clear: Arizona is on the way back, with job growth over the last year rated 7th-best nationally. Our state budget is not only balanced, we have a surplus. Most important, we are putting in place the fundamentals for sustained economic growth: quality education, competitive tax policy and low regulation.

“Don’t be mistaken, I’m bullish on our nation’s future. But I’m convinced the path the President has pursued is the wrong one. I hope he takes some of the lessons of Arizona back with him to Washington.”

Will Congressman Flake Join His Buddy Barack Obama In Chandler?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 25, 2012
CONTACT: Katie Martin

Phoenix, Arizona – President Obama will hold a rally Wednesday in Chandler and conservatives want to know; will Congressman Flake be there to support his pro-amnesty, Washington insider friend Barack Obama?

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Congressman Flake was in the front row of President Obama’s rally,” said Katie Martin. “The Congressman is in lock step with the president’s policies and has voted repeatedly to help push through President Obama’s liberal agenda. It is time that Congressman Flake owns up to his Pro-Obama record and apologizes for voting against Arizonans.”

Congressman Gosar Reacts 2012 to State of Union

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 24 2012
CONTACT: Apryl Marie Fogel

PHOENIX, AZ –U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar, DDS (AZ-01) released the following statement tonight in response to President Obama’s 2012 State of the Union address.

“Tonight, I watched the State of the Union address from Arizona after spending the day speaking with small business owners and constituents who are feeling the effects of President Obama’s failed policies. Again and again, the President ignores simple realities that big government and big spending are not the answer. I stayed out of D.C. in solidarity with the people of Arizona and across the nation who are fed up with this government.

I listened to Obama’s speech tonight hoping that he would provide solutions but instead he presented more of the same. The President continued to promote the discredited class warfare he has supported throughout his career.

Tonight, the President promised the creation of several new big government programs while continuing to ignore the problems we have with the already bloated federal government.

America needs solutions not finger pointing. Our economy is in dire straits. Solutions that weren’t mentioned tonight but are desperately needed include a fairer and flatter tax system to address the growing divide in our tax system.

We need an improved education system with school choice to allow parents to move their children out of failing schools and to provide young adults the opportunity to go into the workforce or higher education system ready for the challenges ahead.

The President discussed regulations but did not address the failed policies of his Administration that are stifling job growth, causing uncertainty in the market and are leading investors to hold onto their money and not promote private sector job growth.

The President briefly discussed immigration but he failed to mention a plan to secure our borders. I’m gravely concerned about the blind eye the President continues to turn towards accountability for the Department of Justice’s failed operation Fast and Furious. Obama failed here on a grand scale.

I hoped the President would take responsibility for the fact that our nation has been operating without a budget for 1,000 days. His lack of leadership and failure to hold the U.S. Senate to task has caused this problem. His lack of guidance or proper understanding of the crippling debt we have is perpetuating it.

We need solutions Mr. President and I’m disappointed in the lack of them presented in your State of the Union address. The true state of the union is that our great nation is facing an awful economy and limited solutions. We are $15+ trillion in debt. We have record sustained unemployment. Our nation is facing a record high misery index. The truth is this President has failed us.

Cardon on President Obama’s State of the Union Address

Cardon on President Obama’s State of the Union Address: The President’s ‘Say One Thing But Do Another’ Mentality Must Stop

President claims he wants job creation on heels of killing 20,000 American jobs!

Phoenix, Arizona – Following this evening’s State of the Union address by President Barack Obama, Mesa businessman and candidate for U.S. Senate, Wil Cardon, issued the following comments:

“President Barack Obama addressed a nation that is suffering from record high unemployment and an economic climate that is full of uncertainty. Arizona, along with the entire nation, is looking for assurance from the president during these bleak economic times. Instead, Arizonans received more of the same partisan rhetoric that leads to inaction from the president and our do-nothing Congress. As we watch our families, friends, and neighbors struggle to make ends meet, Washington continues to offer fluffy speeches that theorize about job creation instead of listening to those who have experience in creating jobs.

Wil Cardon has repeatedly called on President Obama to stop worrying about pandering to his political party and urged the president to lead our country.

“Tonight, President Obama called for the creation of American jobs and an American energy initiative. This pro-job, pro-energy independence message comes just a week after the president blocked the Keystone XL Pipeline which killed 20,000 jobs and hindered America’s ability to become independent from Middle Eastern oil. The president’s ‘say one thing but do another’ mentality must stop. We can’t allow his ideologically-driven agenda, which panders to the extreme of his party, continue to crush small business in this country.

“The career politicians in Washington are tone deaf to what is happening in our communities and they are failing our nation. I am running for the United States Senate because in my family we have a saying which is, ‘leave things better than you found them.’ For the first time in the history of our great country, we are in danger of being the first generation that leaves things worse. I don’t know about Congress or President Obama, but that is unacceptable to me. Now is the time to send a new generation of leadership to Washington.”

Rep. Flake: Reclaiming American Values Should Not Mean Passing Crippling Debt to the Next Generation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 24, 2012
CONTACT: Genevieve Frye Rozansky

President Obama has yet to Recognize Seriousness of our Fiscal Crisis

Washington, D.C. – Republican Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents Arizona’s Sixth District, today called for renewed fiscal discipline in light of President Obama’s State of the Union address.

“You can talk about ‘reclaiming American values’ until the cows come home, but when you’re passing on crippling debt to the next generation, it all sounds like hollow rhetoric,” said Flake. “If President Obama and Congress are really serious about fairness, let’s show a little more compassion for those who will inherit the fruits of our fiscal indiscipline.”

Rep. David Schweikert: 1000 Days Later

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 24, 2012
CONTACT: Rachel Semmel

Washington, D.C. –Congressman David Schweikert (R-AZ) made the following statement today on day 1,000 since the Senate has passed a budget:

“It has been 1000 days since Harry Reid’s Senate has passed a budget. This translates to the Senate neglecting its legal duty to the American people for almost three years.

“How this Senate and Administration can continue to talk about jobs and reigning in government spending with a straight face is beyond me.

“The House has passed a budget, not to mention nearly 30 jobs bills, only to see them die in the black hole of Harry Reid’s Senate.

“During tough financial times, American families and small businesses tighten their belts, live within their means, and create a budget. Why can’t Washington do the same?

“I implore my Senate colleagues and the President to join the House in demonstrating that we are serious about creating jobs and curing the spending binge in Washington.”

Wil Cardon: Obama Administration Wrong for Reducing Troops on Border

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 20, 2011
CONTACT: Katie Martin

Phoenix, Arizona – Wil Cardon, candidate for U.S. Senate, issued the following statement after the Obama Administration announced they will reduce the number of National Guard Troops on the border from 1200 to 300 this coming January:

“The decision to reduce troops on our border by the Obama Administration is unconscionable. The federal government’s abandonment of its responsibility to secure the border is alarming and frustrating. This new announcement shows how out of touch with reality the Obama Administration truly is. Our communities cannot afford less support from the federal government to protect our border. A porous border threatens our safety, curtails our quality of life, and diminishes the economic opportunity of hardworking Americans. I am running for the U.S. Senate because we need a leader in Washington who has the wisdom and the courage to act decisively and secure our borders once and for all.”

Wil Cardon: In Crucial Economic Times, President MIA on Super Committee Negotiations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 21, 2011
CONTACT: Katie Martin

Phoenix, Arizona – The deadline for the Super Committee to reach a deal in cutting $1.2 trillion over ten years in an effort to avoid across the board cuts of $1.2 trillion is looming over Capitol Hill while members of the Super Committee and Congress are starting to fall apart at the seams. In all of the Super Committee discussions, one key component, President Barack Obama, has been missing in action.

Mesa businessman and Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Wil Cardon issued the following statement in regards to the President’s lack of ability to lead the Super Committee negotiations:

“While our country is facing a financial crisis and on the brink of implosion, where is the President during all of the Super Committee negotiations? He is off campaigning around the country and taking vacations instead of leading the debate. The President should be ashamed that he has let another financial crisis hit a boiling point without even once intervening. Why isn’t President Obama being held accountable for not doing his job which is leading the nation?

“President Obama may think it is politically smart to stay out of the debate but in reality it will be disastrous if our country is forced into $1.2 trillion in across the board cuts to programs like defense. It is critical for the United States to get its fiscal house in order but it is unacceptable to put the financial burden on our defense department when there is wasteful spending taking place in other departments within the government.

“The President has once again neglected his leadership role and failed to stop the partisan politics and do what is best for the American people. Our country can’t afford his unwillingness to put politics aside anymore.”

Rep. Schweikert talks about taxpayer funded purchases of President Obama’s books

Rep Schweikert to Obama: Halt Taxpayer-Funded Book Purchases

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 31, 2011
CONTACT: Rachel Semmel

REP. SCHWEIKERT ASKS PRESIDENT OBAMA TO HALT TAXPAYER-FUNDED BOOK PURCHASES

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, sent a letter to President Obama. The letter cites some concerns Rep. Schweikert has over the use of taxpayer dollars spent to purchase copies of President Obama’s books. A copy of the letter is attached:

In a letter to the White House, Rep. Schweikert calls on President Obama and his Administration to cease purchasing copies of his books using taxpayer money, and asks for him to remit any royalty payments he may have received to the Treasury Department.

“At a time of record deficits and a heightened need to cut government spending, it is clear that spending taxpayer money in this manner is inappropriate,” said Rep. Schweikert.

A copy of the letter is below:

October 31, 2011

President Barack Obama
The White House
Washington, DC

Dear Mr. President:

The Associated Press recently reported that the State Department purchased more than $70,000 worth of your books to stock libraries and distribute as Christmas presents.

Copies of Dreams from My Father, The Audacity of Hope, and Of Thee I Sing were handed out from U.S. Embassies worldwide to, as your Administration has claimed, ‘help broker talks on important foreign-policy matters.’

At a time of record deficits and a heightened need to cut government spending, it is clear that spending taxpayer money in this manner is inappropriate.

Furthermore, as with any book deal, there is no doubt some level of royalties paid to you for each copy purchased by the government. Receiving royalties from government purchases of your book is exactly the type of out-of-touch Washington behavior that the American people are weary of and will no longer tolerate.

We request that you instruct all agencies to no longer purchase copies of your books and remit a payment to the Treasury Department for any royalties received as a result of these sales.

Whether this has been done in the past or not, it should be stopped immediately. Doing so will help to restore the integrity of the Office of the Presidency and assure taxpayers that the government cannot be exploited for the personal gain of elected officials.

Thank you for your attention and response to this critical matter. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Rep. David Schweikert

If things continue to worsen for President Obama, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Democrats pull a “Johnson” and pursue another candidate in 2012.

Oh and don’t forget to text “UNITE” to 91919.

Will History Rhyme for Barack Obama in 2012?

I am really starting to get a sense that we may see a repeat of this historic event as we continue into the 2012 Presidential race.

YouTube Preview Image

Let’s face it. President Obama has failed.

His public policy agenda was completely mis-prioritized with Obamacare. He can no longer pursue Keynesian economics to fix the economy. He has run out of leftist options, he’s losing leftist support and he’s running out of time.

Many are now arguing that President Obama does not know what to do.

As his legacy falls apart, Democrats are starting to panic and quietly call for someone like Hillary to prepare. (After all, Democrats love to tout the Bill Clinton economy.) Even the DraftHillary.com site is active.

And with the economy getting ready to possibly triple-dip, the list of Republican candidates is growing.

Every high profile Republican leader is probably having their adviser whisper in their ear, “this may be your only chance to run.” And why wouldn’t they buy into that political prompting? Now Congressman Paul Ryan, Governor Chris Christie and others are seriously considering. Governor Perry was a “no-go” up until a few months ago and now he’s pedal-to-the-metal in the race.

So don’t be surprised if  we see some dramatic changes in the course of the 2012 Presidential race similar to what happened in March of 1968. Just remember, history doesn’t repeat itself, it simply rhymes.

Obama’s Amnesty Monologue

By J.D. Hayworth
(reposted from Front Page Magazine)

President Obama lost his cool last week after a Dallas-based reporter corrected his misstatement that he only lost by “a few percentage points in Texas” when the correct number was ten. While we can poke fun at Obama’s fuzzy political math, when his administration tells such glaring Texas sized lies about border security, the lives of our fellow citizens and our national security are jeopardized.

This occurred last month when Janet Napolitano told a group of border mayors in El Paso that, “There is a perception that the border is worse now than it ever has been. That is wrong. The border is better now than it ever has been.” This is despite a Government Accountability Office report that found that 85% of the border is not “fully sealed” and 56% is not under “operational control” of DHS.

President Obama recently met to meet with a number of self-proclaimed “stakeholders” in immigration policy where he repeated the false claim that the “Obama Administration has dedicated unprecedented resources to secure the border.” Obama makes these claims about increased border security to try to make amnesty more palatable for the American people.

The stated purpose of Obama’s meeting was to foster “a constructive national conversation on this important issue as we work to build a bipartisan consensus in Congress.”

A close examination of who was invited to the Whitehouse and who was not reveals just how out of touch Obama is with the American people on the issue of immigration.

By Obama’s own estimation, Arizona’s SB 1070 has become the focal point of the immigration debate in the nation. If he wanted a real conversation, he should have invited Governor Jan Brewer, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, or State Senate President and SB 1070 author Russell Pearce.

Governor Brewer responded to her non-invitation on Fox News, “You would have thought one of the [border state] governors would have been invited, since we are on the front lines fighting for security there…If we could sit down and discuss these things, we could get the solutions, maybe we could get something implemented.”

The reason why Governor Brewer was not invited is that Obama does not want a “conversation on this important issue,” he wants a monologue. Every single one of the 19 people Obama invited supports amnesty.

As to be expected, Obama invited a number of radical left wing activists like Al Sharpton and John Podesta of the George Soros funded Center for American Progress. He solicited the input of several police chiefs, mayors, and city council leaders from the cities of Philadelphia, San Antonio, Los Angeles, and New York. Every single one of these localities is a Sanctuary City where law enforcement refuses to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

Also attending were union and business lobbyists, including AFL CIO president Richard Trumka, former pro-amnesty Senator turned corporate lobbyist Mel Martinez, and the CEO of the agribusiness conglomerate Cargill. Finally, he invited pro amnesty religious leaders from the National Association of Evangelicals and the Mormon Church.

Obama Law Firm Targets John Huppenthal

Obama Law Firm Targets John Huppenthal

Democrats Appeal To Arizona Supreme Court To Take Conservative Candidate Name Off Arizona Ballot

PHOENIX, ARIZONA. JUNE 23, 2010.  Perkins Coie Brown & Bain, an international law firm that represented the Presidential campaigns of Barack Obama and John Kerry, has set its litigation gun sights on stopping the people of Arizona from having the opportunity to vote for John Huppenthal in the Republican Primary Election for Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Last week,  Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Robert Oberbillig dismissed a Democratic Party lawsuit that sought to have Huppenthal’s name removed from the ballot based on claims the signatures were collected too early.  Judge Oberbillig stated it would be an “extreme remedy” to throw out signatures that everyone agreed were not collected in a fraudulent or irregular way.

Yesterday, the law firm of Perkins Coie Brown & Bain filed an appeal with the Arizona Supreme Court, again seeking to have Huppenthal’s name removed from the Republican Primary Election Ballot.

According to the Wikipedia article on Perkins Coie:

“Perkins Coie is an international law firm based in Seattle, Washington.   …The firm is counsel of record for the Democratic National Committee, and other political clients include nearly all Democratic members of the United States Congress, as well as several Presidential campaigns, including those of John Kerry and Barack Obama. …With its main office located in Seattle, Perkins Coie is the oldest and largest law firm headquartered in the Pacific Northwest.

…In 2009, President Obama appointed Robert Bauer, the Chair of the firm’s Political Law Group, to become his White House Counsel.  … The firm also represents the Democratic Leadership Council, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.”

Democratic party has a long history of unsuccessful attacks on Huppenthal

The attempt by the Democratic Party to have Huppenthal’s name removed from the ballot by litigation is just the latest in a long history of attacks.

Recently, the Democratic Party attempted to smear Huppenthal by promoting a doctored video that purported to show Huppenthal walking out of an interview with a high school student.  The political dirty trick was exposed when the student journalist spoke out to set the record straight.  An editorial in the Arizona Republic condemned the Democrat’s doctored video in strong language, stating “Sometimes, a lie really is just a lie.

In 2008, the Arizona Democratic Party spent tens of thousands of dollars on independent expenditures that made wild claims about Huppenthal and implied he was responsible for child abductions, cancer-causing toxins, internet sex crimes and the release of violent criminals.  The Democrat’s spending on attack ads failed to produce results,  and Huppenthal went on to defeat the Democratic candidate by more than 15%.

About John Huppenthal

John Huppenthal is one of Arizona’s leading authorities on education issues. In addition to being the current Senate Education Chairman, Huppenthal has served for 17 consecutive years on the State House and State Senate education committees.

Huppenthal’s reputation for making policy based on the best research available is well established. A September 2008 editorial in The Arizona Republic stated:

“…Huppenthal is a veteran of the Legislature, having chaired five committees and being as knowledgeable about the bill-making process as any of his colleagues. He’s a pragmatic conservative who bases his positions on exhaustive research and works across party lines to get worthwhile bills passed. Huppenthal insists that legislation be based on best practices from around the country, and he’s prone to arcane dissertations based on stacks of studies he has compiled as he delves into state and district problems. It’s not sexy stuff but it’s necessary to guide a legislative process too often led astray by raw politics and emotion.”

Senator Huppenthal played a key role in helping create school choice for parents. In 1995, as Senate Education Chairman, his legislation took the caps off charter schools. This legislation moved Arizona to first in the nation in school choice (ALEC rankings). In addition, Congressman Trent Franks named Senator Huppenthal one of three legislators most responsible for creating and expanding tuition tax credits in Arizona.

During Huppenthal’s legislative career he successfully developed and passed over 200 bills – the most of any legislator in Arizona history. A substantial number of those bills were education related. Huppenthal’s efforts resulted in the creation of the Career Ladder program for teachers, improved measures of academic progress, and higher graduation standards. Huppenthal also worked closely with the disabled community to improve opportunities for children with special challenges, including creating a model summer school for children with autism, increasing resources for the blind and deaf, expanding textbook formats to accommodate children with disabilities and reducing mandates on teachers.

Huppenthal has been a leader in adopting performance pay in education. After reviewing over 700 studies and creating new concepts in performance pay, Arizona’s career ladder program has become the only performance pay system in the country resulting in statistically-verifiable academic gains. His legislation resulted in enabling Arizona to be the only state nationally where every teacher has a significant portion of pay dependent upon performance measures (Prop 301 Classroom Site Fund).

In 2010, Senator Huppenthal sponsored and helped pass major education reform legislation. Known as the “Truth in Advertising” bill, SB 1286 improves accountability by requiring the Arizona Department of Education to rate the performance of schools with easily understood letter grades (A, B, C, D or F). The grades will be based upon overall performance and academic gains over time. The “Truth in Advertising” law is modeled after similar reforms in Florida which significantly improved academic achievement.

The Old Switcharoo?

Lots of rumors flying in the last 24 hours after Joe Biden floated the trial balloon that Hillary would be a better pick for VP.

Will an “October Surprise” cause the whole Presidential race to go sideways? Hillary could be waiting in the wings as Democrats try to change the game with a political switcharoo.

I’ve always held that Obama would pick Clinton as VP if he really wanted to win but he made a critical mistake that has resulted in tremendous remorse amongst Democrats. McCain then siezed the moment by choosing a candidate who ignited the GOP.

With time running out, Obama, Biden and Clinton may be scheming to throw one more curve ball in the game especially with early voting starting in early October.
