An Open Letter to Timothy Schwartz

Dear Mr. Schwartz,

I was very disappointed to read your attack on Matthew Kenney this week. For a party officer, someone who should be working to unify our Republican Party, to write such a divisive and belligerent letter was a disgrace.

I was also personally offended by your attacks on my fellow Vietnamese-Americans, many of whom became PCs for the first time when Chairman Graham and Matt Kenney visited our community and urged them to become Republicans. Many of them have very little knowledge on voting rights and have never registered to vote, and those who have registered were enlisted as Democrats. Thanks to the inspiration and positive messages delivered to members in the Vietnamese community by Mr. Kenney, hundreds of Vietnamese-American have joined the Republican Party. Should we, Republicans not be celebrating that?

Briefly about me, I am a first generation American migrated from Vietnam at the age of nine.  I love this country, and I love my Republican party, as much as you, as much as other Americans. I’m currently serving my second term as President of the Vietnamese Community in AZ, was recently appointed by Chairman Lines as the Chairman of the Arizona Asian Coalition, and I proudly serve as a member of Governor Ducey’s AZ State Board of Pharmacy. This country has given me, and so many other Vietnamese-Americans tremendous opportunities for advancement, the freedom to live, to speak, to pray as we choose, and to support the leaders who we choose. We are, sir, as American as you are.

Your attack on Mr. Kenney speaks derisively and disrespectfully of those Vietnamese PCs who “did not speak the English language.” I also find it incredibly hypocritical to attack Mr. Kenney for signing up PCs when you, yourself also harassed many of those “non-English speaking” PCs. While they denied your attempts because of your rude and aggressive nature, you constantly arrived at their homes offering to notarize their forms.

Mr. Schwartz, do you know who once did not speak the English language? Me! And yet I felt a love for this country from the first moment I learned about the history of this great nation, the land of Freedom and Opportunities!  As a freedom-loving Vietnamese-American,  I embraced the principals of Ronald Reagan and the first President I ever cast a ballot for, George W. Bush.  I’ve always worked hard, realizing the American dream and being able to provide financially for my family. And yet, to you, I should not be a PC…should I not be a Republican, either?

We should embrace those who are new to this country, who so love America that they want to get involved with our party, to make a positive difference in our community. This is why I have taken a leadership role with the AZ GOP, and why I will continue to recruit as many new Republicans as I can to join our ranks.

I have seen how you conduct yourself publicly, and how you strive to tear down so many of our fellow Republicans. I am hopeful that you will take a step back and recognize how destructive your actions are to our great Party.

Thank you.

Love and Dignity Trump Lies and Hate

By Faith Verdad

This week, as most Americans paused to celebrate our nation’s independence, and to come together with family and loved ones, twice failed Congressional Candidate and current AZ GOP Secretary Gabby Saucedo Mercer had other plans.

Under the influence of rage and possibly something stronger, Mercer typed out an “open letter” to Executive Director Matt Kenney, which could charitably be described as a work of fiction (although that would be an insult to fiction writers).

Fittingly, the letter appeared in Frosty Taylor’s fake news “briefs” on July 6.

While Kenney would have been justified in responding to the lies contained in Mercer’s letter, he demonstrated restraint, kindness, and Christian love.

In his response, Kenney spoke of his own journey to the Republican Party, a love of country and service forged on the battlefields in the War on Terror. “ I saw things that I can only pray that Gabby never has to witness. And experienced loss that I pray she never has to feel.” He wrote of the sacrifice that he witnessed, and his dedication to serving the country that his soldiers fought and even died for. And how true to his word, he has spent his post-military career in service to veterans and to our party.

Kenney goes on to describe his personal journey to salvation. “I spend every day attempting to live my life in a way that is pleasing to my God, and my savior, Jesus Christ. Because of this, I will not respond, point by point, to the vitriol and lies contained in Gabby’s letter. Jesus teaches us to turn the other cheek. I strive to live by His example.”

Finally, Kenney does the remarkable – he actually offers a prayer for a woman who has slandered and lied about him publicly. “I will pray that you find peace from the anger, rage that seems to fuel your hate-filled missives. I will continue to pray for your health and safety on the road, and that the Lord wrap you in his loving arms and deliver you from the demons that you are undoubtedly fighting.”

Indeed, Kenney has done what many of us wish we could do. When faced with unrelenting hate and despicable lies, he responded not with anger, but with love. And in doing so, took a big step to unify the party that Mercer has been vainly attempting to destroy.

An Open Letter to Matthew Kenney, Executive Director, AZGOP

An Open Letter

From: Gabby Saucedo Mercer, Secretary of AZGOP

TO:  Matthew Kenney, Executive Director of AZGOP:

I am disappointed to find that you seriously misquoted me when speaking at the Executive Committee meeting about our conversation, which was on Friday, June 9th, not the Tuesday before the meeting. You stated at the exec meeting that I never mentioned wanting the records. I remember quite well what I said to you, and you got it completely wrong. I told you how frustrated I am, not having access to the records all the secretaries before me have always had. I informed you that a few groups of State Committeemen have come to me to ask if they can count on me to send out a Call Letter to the body, if they bring one to me. They are actually concerned that I will be unable to do my job! That Friday, I told you how I answered that question, which was “Absolutely! That’s my job!” I then asked you this question, “But how can I do my job, when I don’t even have the lists of the State Committeemen and pcs mailing addresses and emails?”

All you would say was “You’d have to speak to the counsel about that.” Speak to the counsel!!? What has he got to do with my tasks, according to the bylaws? But your only answer was “Speak to the counsel.” I must ask you if that reply was meant as a message to me that the AZGOP has no intention of allowing me to mail out an official call to a special meeting. That would go totally against what the bylaws require! And it would go against my own professional standards as well!

My reply to you was that I would not speak to any attorney. There is no reason for me to do so, on this subject, because the bylaws are clear in describing my duties, when the state committeemen bring a Call Letter to me. It is my duty to mail it to the membership. I am now seriously concerned about what will happen if a Call letter really is brought to me. Does the chairman intend to interfere with me doing my job of mailing an official call letter? I would like an answer to this question: is the AZGOP leadership going to refuse to give me the mailing addresses and postage, so I can fulfill my duty to mail the Call Letter, if I am asked to mail one? According to the bylaws, If the state committeemen deliver a Call Letter to the secretary, that letter becomes the official business of the party. If the AZGOP refuses to mail that letter, I believe that will be an intentional breach of the bylaws!

Matthew, I must insist that you retract the misquoted statement you made at the Flagstaff executive meeting, regarding what I said to you on Friday June 9th.  I am personally tired of the way you and Lines and other establishment Republicans are calling for unity but keep attacking Republicans that dare to speak up or challenge the lack of transparency and the smoke and mirrors.  If you do not know what I am referring to, check The Sonoran Alliance. I am sick and tired of the cowards who write for such blog/publication using pseudo names. I can tell that those fake named writers have ties to the AZ GOP establishment because NOBODY knew about my meeting at AZ GOP on February 21st or what transpired at such meeting, so how did Sonoran Alliance know all the details they then wrote about it? Kory Longhofer asked me in front of three witnesses who came with me, to wait two days so he could talk to Lines and then be able to give me an answer regarding the handing over of the records to me. I guess that must have been just to delay it, because I have never heard back from Kory.

Another comment that you made to me in that same June 9th conversation is really bothering me. It was in answer to a comment of mine. It was right after I reminded you that Lines promised many conservatives that he would not hire you, but not long after, he turned around and did it, anyway! I wanted you to understand how much it concerned me that our chairman would say one thing and do another.

But, Matthew, you corrected me! You said that Lines had nothing to do with the decision to hire you as executive director. You said “It was not his decision. It was the donors” who insisted that Lines hire you. I have to tell you, Matthew, that I was amazed by that remark! I thought to myself, “Did I just get a glimpse of who really is running our AZGOP? Did Matthew just tell me that it’s the big-money donors who control what the AZGOP does, and who tell the chairman what to do?”

Then I wondered, “Who are these donors who have so much power over the AZGOP?” Whoever they are, and I would like to find out, I do not believe they are on the side of the Republican Party, or the Republican voters of Arizona! Another question needs asking, “Is it possible these donors have an agenda all their own that we know nothing about and are using our party to execute it?” I am seriously concerned. Is this part of the reason why the AZGOP will not give me the permanent records, and why they did the same to our treasurer, for so long? How many more questions does this ask and answer? A lot, I bet.

Respectfully,

Gabriela S. Mercer
Secretary, AZ GOP

‘Republican’ Briefs, Anything But Republican, Has Become Conspiracy Ranting Post

By Calamity June

There is a scene in the off beat comedy, “So I Married and Axe Murderer,” when the lead character’s mother refers to a supermarket tabloid as “the paper” giving it an air of authority and credibility. Amused, her son responds, “mom, I find it interesting that you refer to the Weekly World News as ‘the paper.’”

Which brings us to another fictional publication that far too many people still read as facts, instead of the fake news that it really is: Frosty Taylor’s Republican Briefs.

As we’ve chronicled before, Frosty spends her days not supporting republican candidates, or advancing conservative principles. Instead, she is a clearing house for bizarre conspiracy theories, gratuitous attacks on GOP office holders, and outright lies. She gives voice to anyone with a grudge, and while she fancies herself a journalist who covers Republican politics, what she really provides is a cesspool of gossip and tabloid trash.

And that was before this weekend.

On Saturday, Frosty printed what can only be described as a convoluted, deranged rant, suggesting that “smart meters affect the human heart.’ This delusional, conspiracy-laden thought should not be encouraged, or given voice in a Republican magazine. We can only wonder if Frosty will next focus on chem trails or vaccines. Either way, she does a disservice to her readers…at least those she has left.

Then on Sunday, Frosty printed, verbatim and without seeking comment, a vicious attack on Arizona GOP Chairman Jonathan Lines. Even worse, she hides behind the words of Navajo county Chairman Steven Slaton, who has done a horrendous job recruiting PCs (he has fewer than 20) and mobilizing Republicans, seems to have time to hurl lies about our State GOP.

At issue is Chairman Lines Memorial Day visit to the World War II Memorial in Hawaii. Frosty and Chairman Slaton use this trip to honor our heroes by suggesting that the chairman used party funds to make the trip. They did not ask the chairman directly, or ask anyone at party headquarters whether or not this is true. It’s easier just to make the suggestion, without bothering to ask for comment.

Frosty and Steven Slaton may not believe in fairness or full disclosure, but we do…so we asked the chairman whether he used party funds for his trip to Hawaii: “Absolutely not. I was invited by a close friend of mine, and I wanted to represent the party with communities that have historically been ignored by our party. I offered to write my friend a personal check for the expense…he refused,  and picked up the cost of my trip himself. At no time did I ever consider using party funds for this activity. Any insinuation to the contrary is a lie.’

Seems pretty clear to us.

Slaton and Frosty also seem to take issue with a number of other AZ GOP activities, none of which are in the least bit controversial or out of the ordinary. Chairman Lines has already explained the legal debt that he inherited (and is working hard to pay off without impacting the party’s operating budget) along with requesting non-disclosure agreements from any staff or officers who come into contact with sensitive financial information. Perhaps Frosty and Slaton would prefer it if the party ledger were made available to anyone, including democrats!

There’s a reason that the vast majority of party activists now get their news from the GOP daily newsletter, ignoring the daily dose of gossip and lies from Frosty Taylor.

But to those who continue to open the Briefs, perhaps this will be the final straw for you…there’s just no reason to click on the link.

AZGOP: Kick Rocks, Kirkpatrick

PHOENIX (May 26) — The Arizona Republican Party today launched a petition in response to the petition being circulated by Arizona democratic operatives who want to draft Ann Kirkpatrick in Arizona’s second congressional district.

Kick Rocks Kirkpatrick

“It completely blows my mind that Arizona democrats think this is even remotely a good idea,” said Arizona Republican Party Communications Director Torunn Sinclair. “We all know how 2016 turned out for Ann — it was ugly — and when you break down the numbers to be CD-2 specific, it’s bad. Arizona voters spoke loud and clear — they don’t want her representing them. She already walked out on her constituents in her congressional district once. She doesn’t need to do it again by carpetbagging to Southern Arizona. She should stay home and hang up her boots permanently.”
The 2016 CD-2 vote counts were as follows:
McSally: 179,806
McCain: 153,649
Kirkpatrick: 143,620

Failed Chairman Cries Wolf to Frosty’s Fake News

By Calamity June

Tom Morrissey

Tom Morrissey

Four years ago, Tom Morrissey walked out of the AZ GOP office for the last time. In his wake, he left the party in a massive financial hole, missing equipment stolen by former staff, and ethical questions swirling regarding alleged kickbacks and improper use of Republican Party funds.

When Morrissey attempted a comeback two years later in a bid to become Maricopa County GOP chairman, he finished 3rd in a 3-person race.

It is hard to imagine a worse messenger on the issues of transparency and financial disclosure. Remember when Tom Morrisey’s state party used to pay thousands of dollars in “consulting fees” to a towing company owned by a party staffer that Morrisey had claimed to fire?

And yet, on Thursday, Morrissey ran to possibly the only outlet in Arizona that has any interest in what he has to say: The Republican Briefs, better known as Frosty’s Fake News.

The substance of Mr. Morrissey’s attack is largely irrelevant, but here it goes. Morrissey is shocked…SHOCKED…that the Arizona GOP is keeping sensitive financial information private by requesting non-disclosure agreements from anyone in possession of proprietary documents.

This is standard operating procedure. It protects the party. It protects GOP donors. And it protects the signers, who can operate with confidence knowing that the documents they have access to will be kept in the strictest of confidence from those that might use the information for nefarious purposes.

While Morrissey’s attacks are baseless, and the clear rantings of a failed chairman who was unable to execute even the most basic tasks of a Party leader, the real shame, as usual, goes to Frosty Taylor, and her misguided and ultimately unsuccessful attempt to impugn the integrity of Chairman Jonathan Lines and his professional team at the AZ GOP.

While Frosty’s #FakeNews gives unfettered access to every personal attack, unfounded rumor and bald faced lie, she’s been remarkably silent when it comes to supporting Republicans and attacking Democrats.

While Lines and the GOP have relentlessly pointed out the thousands of dollars accepted by liberal Kyrsten Sinema from known sex-traffickers, and Ruben Gallego’s hypocritical attacks on GOP rock-star Martha McSally, Frosty’s Fake News has chosen instead to train fire on fellow Republicans.

As we’ve said before, perhaps she’d be more comfortable working for the Democrats…she’s probably the best ally they have.

MCRC Briefs Defines Party Purity, Defies Party Unity

By Ella Gent

It’s an old and tired act. And for too many years, it has polluted the dark corner of Arizona Politics where conspiracy theories, hatred, and attacks rule the day.

We’re referring of course, to Frosty Taylor’s #FakeNews site, the MCRC Briefs.

Monday morning, Frosty’s readers were treated to yet another example of #FakeNews when she printed, verbatim, an outright lie about Chairman Jonathan Lines, quoting a letter he never wrote from a voter he’s never met.

There’s no such letter. Just another Frosty Fable.

First off, despite her intentions to confuse her audience, Frosty’s #FakeNews is in no way affiliated with the Maricopa County Republican Committee, which is ably run by Chris Herring. But Frosty wants to give you the impression that she is the voice of the County party.

She isn’t. But the lies don’t stop there.

No, Frosty has created a cottage industry of using her shrinking platform to attack Republicans. She goes after elected officials. She berates Precinct Committeemen. She bullies anyone who doesn’t adhere to her myopic world view, and despite her claims of impartiality, writes the kind of slanted and biased articles that would make the writers of Pravda stand up and take notice.

Worst of all is that Frosty, despite modeling herself as a champion of grassroots Republicans, doesn’t seem much interested in advancing Republican causes, candidates, or policies. Browse through any one of her blog posts in the last month, and once you get through the poor writing, misspellings, and non-sequiturs, you won’t find criticisms of Democrats or the leftists agenda, no information of registering voters or any pro-GOP information. What you will find are attacks on Republicans, outlandish paranoia, and lie after lie after lie. If Frosty Taylor so enjoys attacking Republicans, perhaps she’d be more comfortable as a Democrat!

All of this would be moderately amusing if not slightly annoying, if Frosty weren’t now actively engaged in trying to bring chaos to the Arizona GOP. In January, Frosty strongly backed the two losing candidates for Chair in Maricopa County and for the Arizona GOP, using her blog to push false narratives, ask slanted questions and lies about other candidates. Despite her best efforts, both Chris Herring and,two weeks later, Jonathan Lines were elected. Could people finally be seeing through the falsehoods?

But Frosty just couldn’t accept that she and her candidates lost. Recently, in conjunction with Jim O’Connor, she has begun to whisper about and organize a “recall” effort of Chairman Lines. While absolutely absurd on its face (Lines has been in office less than 2 months, just concluded a wildly successful Executive Committee Meeting, and is poised to break records for fundraising at this month’s Legislative Salute), there’s really no cause or justification for taking this action. But that won’t stop Frosty…she’ll keep attacking her fellow Republicans and damage the party until she gets her way.

Or until everyone stops reading.

The Election Grudge That Just Won’t Die

By Sonny Daze

Sources tell Sonoran Alliance that the author of a vicious, divisive and dishonest hit piece in Monday’s Arizona Daily Independent was authored by none other than failed AZ GOP Chairman candidate Jim O’Connor.

Mr. O’Connor, who left his LD 23 committee with over $26,000 in legal debt, is clearly attempting to create controversy and division amongst Republican PCs.

fighting elephantsMr. O’Connor and his supporters have clearly still not come to grips with that fact that Mr. O’Connor lost his race for chairman. It was a close contest, but it was decisive: Chairman Jonathan Lines actually won by 3 times as many votes as Treasurer Bob Lettieri, who required a 2nd ballot to garner the required 50%-plus-one of the votes. However, unlike Mr. O’Connor, 2nd place finisher Eric Morgan graciously conceded defeat, without demanding any recounts, proxy reviews or credentialing fights. Eric Morgan knows, of course, that these internal disputes only harm the party, and do not help us unify to register voters, recruit candidates, or win elections. Lettieri also seems to have moved on with his life and is doing a professional job.

Unfortunately, we’re once again reminded that Jim O’Connor and his allies care less about defeating Democrats, and more about settling scores, launching personal attacks against fellow Republicans and lies. In short, they are interested in raw power, NOT in winning elections.

Mr. O’Connor’s latest gambit may be his most pathetic yet. According to our sources, he has authored, and posted anonymously, a blog post chock full of lies, deceptions and personal attacks. Next, he’s posting his vitriol on his Facebook page, and even urging PCs to work towards recalling our new chairman.

This is what desperation looks like. Unable to win fairly, Jim O’Connor and his supporters are reduced to cowardly, anonymous blog posts and dreams of overturning the will of the State Committee through a wild goose chase of a recall.

It is increasingly clear that the Arizona GOP dodged a major bullet when the State Committee rejected Jim O’Connor last January.

Setting the record straight on AZGOP election records

By Timothy Schwartz

Yesterday, a spin doctor from AZGOP released a deceptive account concerning Gabby Mercer’s attempt to obtain records.

The facts: On January 28th at the annual State meeting, the race for Chairman was extremely close. Out of over 1,200 votes cast, there were 34 votes separating the candidates. O’Connor’s campaign chairman Tim Horn asked to see the records and was told he would be able to. The meeting did not happen.

Gabby Mercer, the newly elected Secretary began asking for the records. She was stalled with the excuse that the office was in transition. After the “transition”, no changes were made as the personnel running AZGOP were the same. Gabby was denied access to the records. Mercer persisted against continued obstruction. Each attempt was faced with a new excuse, none of them valid.

The Rules state that after an election of officers, there is a period of 10 days for all the records to be turned over to the newly elected official, the date of that deadline was February 7th. Obviously that deadline has passed, and Mercer’s attempts were still in deadlock. Her calls weren’t returned, and neither were her emails and text messages.

Several days ago, Mercer sent a letter to Chairman Lines asking for a meeting at HQ to obtain the records. On Monday, February 20th, Lines confirmed her appointment for that purpose.

With the confirmed appointment of Tuesday Feb.21 at 10 am, Gabby arrived with the support of Tim Horn, Timothy Schwartz and Lynn Breyer. Though Tim LaSota is lawyer for the party, Kory Langhofer and associate Thomas were there. We suspect that the lawyers were only there to learn of our desire, as it was never their purpose to give us the records. They reviewed our list of files requested, but after a meeting that lasted for more than 2 hours, never allowed us to see or obtain any of the files we came for. Avinash said all records were available on the website, but none of our requested items exist on the website except a preliminary list of State Committeemen that was dated January 9th and was never updated to the actual list.

Chairman Lines has advocated transparency, yet all the signs from the last 3-1/2 weeks show anything but transparency.

It is truly time for there to be a protest from every elected State Committeeman. We don’t give another 2 weeks for you to produce what should have been given weeks ago. The Credentials committee’s work ended on January 28th. What do you have to hide? Does 2 weeks give time to ‘make corrections’? This was an election! Those results should speak for themselves.

We demand immediate action!

Republican Faction Just Can’t Let It Go

By Millennial Maven

What the liberal mainstream media and Democrat elites are doing to President Trump is despicable. They tried to de-legitimize his election and cast doubt on it. Now they are putting off approving his nominees. Obama hold overs in the agencies are leaking information to try and damage the Trump administration. People are trying to make it impossible for President Trump to build the team he needs to accomplish the promises he campaigned and won on.

The same thing is happening in our own state GOP. Last month, Jonathan Lines, Gabby Mercer and Bob Lettieri were all fairly elected…from the credentialing process to the vote tabulation, the process was clear, open and transparent. No challenges were lodged to the credentials report, and no issues were raised during or immediately after the credentials committee submitted and the state body unanimously approved the credentials report. Now, Mercer and Tim Horne (not an elected State Officer) wants to undermine the election process, the credentials committee, and the duly elected State Committeeman by going on a self-proclaimed “fishing expedition.”

In further evidence of Mercer’s disruptive agenda are the events that took place on the morning of February 21, 2017. Chairman Lines invited Mercer to the State Party to review all of the documents that she is responsible for and begin planning the upcoming Excomm meeting. Instead, Mercer arrived with Horn, along with Timothy Schwartz, and the three of them proceeded to badger and threaten AZ GOP staff. While Secretary Mercer had requested a number of documents to review, it was clear that her only intention, and the only intention of her group, was to attempt to obtain control of the proxy forms and credentialing documents, ostensibly to remove them from the office. For obvious reasons, these demands were rejected, causing another round of belligerence and threats.

Like the Democrats and mainstream media in Washington, DC, it’s time for O’Connor and his minions to accept the results of the election and move on. While it’s true that the race was close, Lines actually won by three times as many votes as Bob Lettieri, our new treasurer. Yet neither Eric Morgan nor Wes Harris has attempted to challenge the results.

To review:  The credentials report was given multiple times and less people voted in each of the three elections than were credentialed and yet they continue to try and cast doubt on Chairman Lines term as chairman. They continuously spread rumors, attack his staff, and now Mercer, Horne and Schwartz want to review all the proxies and look for non-existent “fraud. This is a direct attack not only on Chairman Lines, but on the dozens of activists, credentials committee volunteers and State Committeemen who openly and transparently conducted the election.

Never before has a new chairman been attacked so much in his first month in office. Chairman Lines hasn’t attended his first RNC meeting yet,  hasn’t been given the time to get his team in place, nor has he even had his first fundraiser and executive committee meeting. Yet the constant campaign, procedural maneuvers, rumors, and fake news have been designed to keep him from governing.

Let’s hope the AZGOP has had enough of the nonsense and is ready to move forward as a board and as a body to accomplish conservative victories and elections success here in Arizona. Don’t let LD 23 and the AZRA club disrupt our ability to have success in Arizona as we work to Make America Great Again.
