To: AZGOP Executive Committee

From: Brett Mecum, Political Director

CC: Sean McCaffrey, executive director

Subject: Resolutions COmmittee

Date: December 4, 2008

As we continue to make preparations for the 2009 Arizona Republican Party Statutory Meeting, I wanted to remind everyone that any proposed resolutions are due 45 days prior the state meeting. Since our meeting is scheduled for January 24, 2009, resolutions are due no later than 11:59PM on Wednesday, December 10, 2008. You may e-mail your proposed resolutions directly to me at bmecum@azgop.org, fax them to 602-224-0932, or mail them to Arizona Republican Party Headquarters, 3501 N. 24th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85224.

Resolutions for the 2009 State Statutory Meeting must meet the following criteria for the Continuing Bylaws of the Arizona Republican Party:

H. 2. Procedures

Proposed resolutions, other than memorial, may be no more than 250 words long and must be submitted 45 days before the scheduled state party meeting in order to be considered by the resolutions committee. The committee may initiate, recommend, modify or reject any resolution. Since the committee’s purpose is to give the full assembly the benefit of its complete debate and mature judgment, motions to table or to close or limit debate will not be allowed. All resolutions submitted to the committee shall be sent with the committee’s recommendations and vote count to each state committeeman with the notice of call of the meeting.

For your convenience, I have attached a sample resolution below:

Sample Resolution:

Whereas President George W. Bush is following the plan he announced to the American people after 9/11 to defeat terrorism; and

Whereas this war was initiated by terrorist attacks on the United States of America; and

Whereas we deplore the loss of young Americans in uniform, we also applaud and are grateful for their courage and dedication in this effort; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Arizona Republican Party strongly requests that our congressional delegation continue to support our President and our brave fighting forces until this war is won.

Also, each county chairman in counties with populations less than 500,000 persons, and each LD chairman in counties with populations greater than 500,000 persons (Maricopa & Pima) must submit from their county or legislative district the name, phone number, and e-mail address of a person to serve on the resolutions committee. That information can be e-mailed to me at bmecum@azgop.org. Please have your resolutions committee appointment submitted no later than Wednesday, December 10, 2008. In order to stay consistent with the AZGOP bylaws, any county or legislative district chairman that does not submit a resolution committee appointment by the prescribed deadline will automatically appoint themselves to the resolutions committee.

We are tentatively scheduling a Resolutions Committee conference call for Friday, December 12, 2008. We will have a time and dial-in number provided to members of the resolutions committee in the near future.

As always, if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at (602) 957-7770 or by e-mail at bmecum@azgop.org

Thank you for your time and your service to the Republican Party.
