Republican Professionals straw poll

The Republican Professionals held a presidential straw poll last night. The big winner was Ron Paul. His supporters did make an effort to show up so not too big a surprise. Ron Paul will most likely not win the primary with 80% so some may consider that an outlier number. More telling is that McCain came in second with no one else coming close. Other-Not Specified came in 4th. At $5 a piece there were 515 votes. Nice fundraiser, over $2,500. Here are the results:

515 total ballots cast

80% Ron Paul
12% John McCain
3% Mitt Romney
2.5% Other – Not Specified
1% Rudy Giuliani
1% Fred Thompson
.5% Mike Huckabee
0% Duncan Hunter

  1. Romo Lampkin says

“Most telling” is actually that your poll in no way represents how the Arizona election will turn out.

  2. Five will pay you ten McCain will be the Republican nominee.
    Why you may ask?
By November 5, 2008 we will have elected a President of the United States of America.
One thing we know for sure.
It will be either John McCain or a Democrat.

  3. nightcrawler says

I asked my two dogs who they would vote for if they could and they both barked at Hillary’s name.

  4. Dick Gazinia says

McCain? Oh pulease!!! His house of cards will be folding before long. Once he starts getting hammered on his deplorable record in the senate he will implode. In fact, I’m not sure what’s different between him and any of the Dimocrates. He’s as smarmy as any of them. It’ll be either Rudy or Romney. Remember McCain took NH in 2000 and then the wheels fell off the bus. I predict history repeating itself.

dogs barked at Hillary – that’s funny!

  5. The only thing John McCain stands for is John McCain. He has got to be the most self-serving Republican in a long time. I hope The Ancient Mariner at least raised them enough money.

  6. Were they serving alcohol at the event?

  7. Live Free or Die says

It comes as no suprise that dogs would vote for Hillary, dogs are dependent on their masters.

  8. Mr. Conservative says

Nice to see that Horst Kraus is still “shilling” for McCain ( plus he has a hyperlink to his “business” ) saying he’s the only one who can “beat” the Dem’s in November 2008. I guess he’s still drinking the Kool-Aid!!! I was at the event and yes, alcohol was served and the Ron Paul “Bots” were in full force making fools of themselves. It’s nice we made money off them.

  9. As proud as I am to call John McCain Senator, I believe his days are numbered. He’s peaked and no number of votes in SC will change that.

The nominee will be Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney. And I would back either one of them because I would rather have a seat at the table than cut off my nose to spite my face and vote any another way.
