Schweikert says opponent has chance to return tainted campaign contributions tonight.

Scottsdale, AZ – District Five Congressional candidate David Schweikert is urging his opponent to return tainted campaign contributions. Schweikert believes tonight would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

“Harry Mitchell has taken $20,000 in campaign contributions from Nancy Pelosi’s Political Action Committee.  This is the same committee that inappropriately funneled more than $100,000 to Pelosi’s husband,” Schweikert said.  “Nancy Pelosi is now visiting Arizona to prop up two captive campaigns and there’s no excuse why Mitchell can’t drive to this event and give Pelosi her money back. Her leadership in Congress has been marred by ethical lapses such as this, and the current Congressman from the Fifth District has said and done nothing to dispel the notion that he is anything but her loyal subject.”

Schweikert added, “It would also be appropriate if Mitchell returned the $28,000 he’s taken from Congressman Charlie Rangel, Chairman of the House tax-writing Ways & Means Committee who is under an ethics investigation for failing to pay his own taxes. Returning these tainted dollars might help, but with 11 days and counting since this was brought to light, I won’t hold my breath. Apparently, Mitchell has lost his sense of ethics since he ran in 2006. He should follow the lead of Congressman Dave Loebsack and Michael Skelly who have already given the tainted contributions back.”
