Ouch! That is going to leave a mark!

Amidst the hullabaloo over Megan McCain’s appearance on “The View”, this little tidbit was overlooked.  Or maybe just ignored.

 Norquist Endorses McCain’s Re-Election Bid

The endorsement was not just a push in the McCain direction, Mr. Norquist also took a broad swipe at JD Hayworth….

J.D. Hayworth, the challenger, needs to explain why he lost his House seat, okay?,” he said. “If you can’t get yourself re-elected to your House seat, what do you bring to the table on a Senate race?”

Referring to Hayworth’s loss in 2006, Norquist said, “When you throw away a race like that it’s very expensive to the rest of the party.”

Yes it was.

But, it may pale in comparison to the price paid due to a bloody primary and the loss of efforts dedicated to the capture of Dem held House seats.  It has become increasingly clear that there exists within factions of the GOP, primarily in Maricopa County, a desire to do whatever it takes to defeat McCain.  Forget about all those House seats we have to hold or take back, it isn’t about Republican victory statewide.  The line in the sand has been drawn.

All of this has me wondering….

Who will be the scapegoat when McCain wins and JD loses his stage?  Does this make Grover Norquist a socialist loving RINO?  I’m just sayin’……..

Comments

  1. I just lost all respect for Grover Norquist.

His so-called pledges aren’t worth the paper they are printed on.

John McPain. He knows how to spend your money.

Rx for McPain: take one does of JD – no need to call in the morning, you’ll be fine.

  2. Principled conservative says

Grover Norquist goes back a long way with McCain. That deal was made years ago. Yawn. It’s unfortunate, and I’ll bet he regrets it now.

  3. Molly,

I think Grover’s credibility is being called into question over this for several reasons.

    1. He did not put the 2006 CD-5 race into political context. Both 2006 and 2008 were bad years for the GOP due to scandals, left-swinging Independents and most significantly, overspending by a Republican-controlled Congress.

    2. Democrats had Napolitano at the top of the ticket, which fired their GOTV effort up at all levels.

    3. I really hate to challenge Grover but he hasn’t done his homework by conducting a compare and contrast on McCain and Hayworth’s voting records and lifetime ratings by ACU, CAGW, CFG, etc.

    4. In 2010, I am getting a sense that many people are going to disregard endorsements. Already, Sarah Palin is taking tons of heat over her decision to campaign for McCain. The grassroots are hammering her over this on social media and blogs. The average Joe’s are tired of the endorsements-as-usual and we even saw this when Newt endorsed Scozzafava.

In the weeks and months ahead, I believe we will see data that reflects the mood that Arizonans are tired of John McCain, that he has been in public office too long and that it’s time to come home to Arizona.

And for the sake of disclosure, I will be working on JD Hayworth’s campaign. But as you know, I am more than happy to allow differing opinions here on Sonoran Alliance for the sake of health debate. Hopefully, I can make my case as well as all our writers.

Incidentally, there is a new Facebook group page called “Sarah Palin Supporters for JD Hayworth.”

  4. Thank you, Shane. I may not post as often as others but you can be sure, I will also do my best.

  5. Principled conservative says

Also, Dick Armey and FreedomWorks which sponsors tea parties has NOT endorsed McCain.
    http://www.freedomworks.org/blog/bstein80/dick-armey-did-not-endorse-john-mccain

  6. Molly – Your posts are fantastic. If SA keeps publishing your posts, I will continue to visit.

I laughed out loud when DSW spoke of credibility. Some of the non-sense posted here too frequently strains all credulity!

  7. I also loved the rich irony of Shane playing the credibility card. That was great.

  8. OK Klute you can now apologize to me…LMAO!

  9. I agree with Grover on Pamela Gorman but I really don’t think he’s done his homework on McCain. And I’m calling him on it.

And yes, I did disclaim myself with regard to JD in the comments. But also go back and read my posts over the last four years, with the exception of supporting him as the presidential nominee, you will see that I have been all over John McCain for being a problematic Republican and causing the GOP so many problems. I was going to sit out the last election cycle if it hadn’t been for him adding Palin to the ticket.

Now we have an opportunity to clean our house and elect someone who won’t cause us problems and poke a stick in our eyes and I’m going to do whatever I can to make that happen.

Yes, I am a consultant who will be compensated for my services but I am also a “True Believer” and that’s the most politically dangerous type of consultant you don’t want working against you.

  10. …or “for” you?

  11. Grover is not Jesus Christ.
John McCain is not Jesus Christ.
(Travis is CERTAINLY not Jesus christ.)

I.e. if you always appeal to worldy authority, you will be lead dreadfully wrong.

  12. + sometimes.

  13. Stephen Kohut says

To paraphrase Norquist “John McCain, the moderate Republican beloved by the main stream media and talking heads everywhere, needs to explain why he lost the presidential election, okay?,” he said. “If you can’t get yourself elected as the first “politically correct” Republican presidential candidate, what do you bring to the table on a Senate race?”

  14. Republican Lady says

It is time for McCain to step down and let a real conservative represent Arizona! He refused to say a bad word about Obama and yet he is more than willing to attack a fellow Republican!
He has stepped across the aisle one time too many for me to support him. It’s time for all the RINO’s to go home.

  15. “OK Klute you can now apologize to me…LMAO!”

For what? Your lack of understanding tenses?

“I will be working on JD Hayworth’s campaign.”

    Operative word: “will”

    Tense: Future

Meaning: “Shane will be working on the Hayworth campaign” vs. “Shane is working on the Hayworth campaign”.

None of this changes what I said, Shane is permitted to post his own opinions on his blog just as you are. Even when/if he draws a check, he’s still allowed to have an opinion and post it publicly.

  16. Klute,

To set the record straight, Red Mountain Consulting & Development will be working for the JD Hayworth 2010 Campaign Committee. Red Mountain Consulting & Development is my political consulting company.

Yes, I can say whatever I want on this blog and I add my disclaimer as a courtesy. Sonoran Alliance is not the only political blog in Arizona. Anyone can start their own blog and say whatever they want or push their own candidate(s).

  17. DSW:
You have my email address. I am willing to work with you to get J.D. elected. Every time I hear a McCain radio spot, I get more determined than ever to defeat him.

  18. DSW,

“Yes, I can say whatever I want on this blog and I add my disclaimer as a courtesy. Sonoran Alliance is not the only political blog in Arizona. Anyone can start their own blog and say whatever they want or push their own candidate(s).”

Amen, sir. I’ve just found comments like Tony’s (and not just Tony’s) unseemly. You’ve been very protective of the 1st Amendment here and I very much appreicate that. People need to mind their business.

  19. What a hoot!

Oberserve, once again, goes to the extreme with his pejorative comparisons of folks to Jesus Christ. So, if I read you right, you are saying anyone short of Jesus Christ is not to be listened to or have any credibility? Does that include you, sir?

Mr. Kohut apparently is the self-appointed SA equivalent of Grover Norquist. Who knew?

  20. I did not say that Ann. I wrote in 5th grade level English. I can’t break it down for you more simplistically than as it’s written.

“If you always appeal to worldly authority you will sometimes be led awfully astray.”

Perhaps you can come up with a 4th or 3rd grade reading level version?

  21. And yes, if you somehow have the ability or opportunity to listen directly to Jesus Christ, he will never lead you astray.

  22. Is TonyGOPrano not the fat guy who owns the really nasty pro-McCain blog? (I forget his and his blogs name. It’s the one that’s all black with wacky fonts and writing.)

  23. “Grover is not Jesus Christ.
John McCain is not Jesus Christ.
(Travis is CERTAINLY not Jesus christ.)”

Hmmm…looks like a pejorative comparison to me.

    pejorative: adj
(of words, expressions, etc.) having an unpleasant or disparaging connotation

But then I am just a silly girl with a simple mind who is led astray by the evildoers and cannot understand the elevated writings of one so enlightened. But, I do believe it is correct to capitalize a proper noun.

Oh what the heck…you already used His name to degrade another…what’s a grammatical error in your typing?

  24. Gosh, did I just get put on a list with Norquist, McCain and Jesus? I’m cool with that…especially since, with the exception of Jesus, naturally, I think I had the superlative position.

  25. Fie on Norquist, Armey
    (see: http://michellemalkin.com/2010/02/10/dick-armey-whitewashes-john-mccains-fiscal-irresponsibility-record/),
McCain and all of the protectorate.

Quibbling over how defamatory a pejorative is does not help to un-elect John McCain.

One of JD’s big problems is funding. He must get money from out of state and most of that opinion is that McCain cannot be defeated.

DeMint, on Fox today, when asked his opinion said he was neutral. There goes an endorsement and SCF money.

Did you see the negative comments at RS?

If JD turns national opinion: money, influence, and power will move his way.

  26. Travis, liars dont make JC’s list as far as I’ve learned.

  27. Oberserve: I like verbal jabbing and joking as much as the next guy, but I’m not comfortable throwing around the Name and Authority of Jesus. I regret if I did that in my last post.

To continue to pull the “Jesu”s card because you cannot make a decent argument for your candidate or positions is beyond what I’m willing to engage.

  28. I just got this from Michelle Malkin. These are some of the earmarks in the bailout that McCain supported. Kinda make the infamous “snakes” that J.D. supposedly supported pale in insignificance.
Film and Television Productions (Sec. 502)
    – Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
    – 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)

Tax earmark “extenders” in the bailout bill.
    – Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
    – American Samoa (Sec. 309)
    – Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)
    – Mine Safety Equipment (Sec. 311)
    – Domestic Production Activities in Puerto Rico (Sec. 312)
    – Indian Tribes (Sec. 314, 315)
    – Railroads (Sec. 316)
    – Auto Racing Tracks (317)
    – District of Columbia (Sec. 322)
    – Wool Research (Sec. 325)

  29. Good people! To understand how the GOP has fallen so far, you have to understand Grover Norquist…the author of Bush/McCain Amnesty.
Of course he doesn’t like J.D. Hayworth!

Grover, the Muslim convert, the biggest (next to McCain) of the amnesty/open border pushers…THE squatter support squad.

More than you ever wanted to know about Grover:
    http://towncriernews.blogspot.com/search?q=grover+norquist

Grover Norquist: “I started out as a right-winger, and when I retire I want to be a squishy middle-of-the-roader,” he jokes, chortling at the thought.”

As for McCain vs. Hayworth…better get the facts!

Indians, Lobbyists and Arizona Politics…OH MY!
