John McCain has all the time in the world to put on Town Halls in Arizona, but for some reason is not available to debate JD Hayworth. He put on a Town Hall this past weekend in Fountain Hills. This Friday, June 4th, he’s putting on a Town Hall in Mesa at 11am at the Mesa High School auditorium.

It has been 95 days since Hayworth asked McCain to debate. There are less than two months left until early ballots are mailed out. What is McCain hiding? He had no problem debating Obama. Why not Hayworth?

It is because McCain doesn’t want the truth to come out. He is not a conservative, he only plays one on TV and during election years. He has been attacking Hayworth for being a big pork spender, and doesn’t want Hayworth to be able to respond and prove to everyone that McCain is lying. Hayworth has a 98% lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union over his 12 years in Congress – impossible to get if you’re really a big porker. McCain has an 81% lifetime rating, which sunk to a low of 63% in 2008 when he voted for and even proposed some of the billion dollar pork TARP bailouts. Hayworth merely voted for a couple of transportation and border security bills in the past where other members of Congress had tacked on pork – now McCain is trying to falsely use that to tarnish Hayworth.

McCain won’t debate Hayworth because he’s too busy debating himself with his flip-flopping back to the right this year. We urge our readers to show up at the Mesa Town Hall on Friday and ask him the tough questions he should be asked in a debate – like why he voted for the billion dollar pork bailouts, and why he keeps flip-flopping on border security.

I’ll be there and will spread the info to everyone I know to show up and ask McCain the questions he’s been ducking, thanks for informing us. Arizona voters have a right to see their candidates debate. McCain knows he can’t win in a Republican primary debate because he’s really more like a Democrat. What a fake snake.

  2. The Mole says

McCain will not debate JD because he knows he’ll get creamed. The one thing McCain learned from his military training is not to engage in a fight you have no chance in winning. If people saw them side by side the race would be over an McCain would be off into his well earned retirement. I can see him now under a shade tree at one of the house he doesn’t know he has, sipping a tall cool glass of Geritol.

  3. Pamela Mills says

McCain should not expect the voters of Arizona to support him without giving us the opportunity to hear him and JD – at the same time, on the same topics. We deserve better from our elected officials!

  4. Why would McCain or anyone else want to be in the same room with Foghorn Leghorn?

  5. McLame fears debating JD. It’s hard for him to keep his lies straight.

There will be a lot for J.D. to own up to, especially now since this new website went up: http://realjdhayworth.com/

This morning, Meet the Press host David Gregory noted that guest and Arizona senatorial candidate J.D. Hayworth was once a supporter of a path to citizenship and guest worker program. Given that Hayworth has framed his campaign around attacking opponent Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for flip-flopping from a pro-immigration reform stance to a restrictionist border hawk, Gregory asked Hayworth to define what really makes him any different. Hayworth attributed his change of heart to 9/11:

GREGORY: Going back to 2001, you actually believed in a guest worker program. You believed in a path towards citizenship which you now call amnesty. Sen. McCain was a champion of comprehensive reform with Sen. Kennedy. Back during the Bush administration. […] How does your position really differ from him?

HAYWORTH: Well it differs profoundly because what happened on 9/11 helped the scales fall from my eyes. I understand that national security is border security. And I understand that we must enforce the laws.

However, the anti-immigrant group, NumbersUSA tracks Hayworth’s pro-immigration votes during his term in the House of Representatives as going back to as late as 2005, when he voted against H.R. 4437, the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act — which ultimately passed.

Hayworth claims 9/11 was an eye-opener for him on immigration, but conservative guru Linda Chavez has a different take. “Hayworth, a six-term congressman, once favored a guest worker program but flip-flopped when he sensed bashing immigrants was a surer ticket to re-election,” wrote Chavez. According to Chavez, the strategy failed miserably for Hayworth, who “lost handily” to a more moderate candidate in 2006.

Marty Hermanson, Pinal County Republican Chairman, is sponsoring a US Senate Primary debate between McCain, Hayworth and Deakin on July 9, 7-9 PM, at Poston Butte High School, 32375 N. Gantzel Rd., San Tan Valley, 85143. The Poston Butte auditorium seat 2,500 and is a great venue for the first ever US Senate Primary debate for Arizona’s third largest county. Both challengers have accepted the invitation. The question is when the man says “Lights, camera, action!” and the moderator says “Good evening from …” will there be three candidates or will the cameras show an empty podium with a cutout where John McCain would stand?

PCs and conservative activists are routinely calling McCain’s campaign scheduler, Michelle, who has consistently refused to accept the invitation stating “we will not make any commitment to debate until after candidates are certified”, “we do not plan that far in advance we are only now scheduling for May (now the answer is June)”, etc. McCain’s campaign grudgingly agreed that the Senate was on recess on July 9.

What McCain is doing is guaranteeing that he will lose every Pinal PC and activist that has not made a choice yet on who to endorse and who to do get out the vote legwork for in the primary. It looks like the voters of Pinal County and the PCRC are of no importance to John McCain. If you are a Pinal voter and don’t like being disrespected than call McCain’s campaign at 602-604-2010, ask for Michelle and let her know that you are aware of the 7/9 debate at Poston Butte sponsored by Marty Hermanson and the PCRC, that everyone except the Senator has accepted the invitation and you want to know why McCain is hiding from the primary voters on Pinal County.

  9. Good grief! JD was on the air for…too long…and anyone who cared to know anything about him or his views has…ad nauseum. Why would Sen. McCain take time away form meeting with the good people of this state to give JD a chance to showboat? Case in point…

  10. Stephen Kohut says

    Ann,

So, voters should not see a debate to help them make a choice? Is that your opinion in all the races for just the Senate Priamry? If that is what McCain’s campaign decides to do it simply shows his disrespect for the voters, the PCs and the party and gives PCs like me and conservative activists every reason to turn out the vote against him.

  11. McCain debated in a national election against Obama, now the President of the United States, leader of the free world. I’m pretty sure he isn’t afraid of debating JD. He has debated in front of not only a national audience but a global audience. The three debates he held with Obama was heard around the world. Why debate someone who doensn’t even know that the U.S. declared war on Nazi Germany? If JD wants to debate, he should start by learning U.S. History.

  12. Stephen,

This is a statewide contest. Senator McCain accepts the responsibility of meeting with the people whose votes he asks for…JD Hayworth is not one of them. Statewide, in their communities, he proudly and without hesitation will meet them in Town Halls, local events, and where he can best answer their questions.

A debate with Hayworth would be a sideshow! Anywhere Hayworth goes is nothing more than his own circus act.

What crazy thing will he say next? We’ve had the man-horse marriage, the birther issue bordering on truther, the “America never declared war on Germany” idiocy, not too mention his out and out lies over his own immigration and spending record. Then there is always the distorted revisionist history of “other” events in his life. JD is so good at imitations, I’m waiting for him to do his own version of Nixon, “I am not a crook!”

Why waste the time of voters to hear more of JD’s contrived nonsense? It would only offer more proof that they were right when he was voted one of the dumbest members of Congress.

  13. Stephen Kohut says

Ann, Clark T and all paid McCainiac bloggers,

I think you guys either can’t read or ar in Carville like spin control. Is there some aprt of the debate is sponsored by the PCRC chairman on behalf of all Pinal Republicans, PCs, GOP club members and voters selection a Republican ballot that you all don’t understand or chose to ignore? Pray tell what does that have to do with JD or any one of the three candidates?

If McCain does not want the votes or GOTV efforts of Pinal County voters, its PCs, etc. then he should just give Marty a straight up or down answer and have done with it. We’ll just put the camera on a empty podium with McCain’s name on it. A broadcast no show by McCain will send all the message needed to voters and PCs through AZ. I can’t wait for the feedback his campaign will receive on 8/24 for that slighting.

  14. Stephen,

In case you are the one who can’t read…I’ll try it again and if need be I can wrtie it phonetically…that means sound out the words.

    I REPEAT….

15. Don’t worry Ann. In 83 days Mr. KoNUT will go back to where ever he came from. Even phonics can’t help him…

  16. McCain is not going to debate JD right now b/c he knows JD is his own worst enemy. They guy contiually burys himself with the voters every time he opens his mouth. You people are the only ones who care b/c your bunch of haters. The rest of us know what JD has done in the past and dont’ want to repeat a failed experiment.

  17. Why on earth would McCain waste his time, JD is busy self destructing and McCain is busy WORKING FOR OUR STATE AND THIS NATION. There is nobody to blame but JD for him having to step away from radio, he was the one who was unethically campaigning. It was the same lack of ethics that caused him to lose his seat in Congress. It is pretty black and white to me, he is a failure and far, far worse then McCain.

  18. I love the “scales fell from my eyes” comment from JD.

JD can make corrections to his positions based on current events, but McCain cannot.

    Hypocrites.

  19. Stephen Kohut says

Cameras rolling, empty podium with McCain’s name on it … Yep, definite winner for John.

    Jeff,

Sorry to spoil your day old boy. I’m in this for the very long haul. McCainiacs seem to be a one trip pony. What ever will you do when he’s gone?

  20. The more relevant questions are how much of Hayworth’s legal debt is paid, how is he making a living while campaigning, and what will he do after he loses the primary since Broomhead’s ratings and listener base are better than JD’s?

  21. Stephen Kohut says

McCainiacs want to make a US Senate Debate for Pinal Republicans, the PCRC and its PCs all about JD. Pray tell, where in my posts have I once refered to JD, stated I backed JD? No where. Where have I stated that, as a PC, I have endorsed any of the candidates? No where. This is about the PCRC and Pinal voters deserving the opportunity to see all three candidates debate and vie for their votes. This is about Pinal, the PCRC, the PCs and Pinal voters and has nothign to do with JD.
