John Rutledge Passes Away

First Vice-Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, John Rutledge, has passed away. Rutledge was a life-long Republican who had been active in the party for countless years. Most recently, he had been preparing all the details for the Arizona delegation leading into the Republican Convention. Apparently, he suffered serious injuries from a fall within the last day and was unable to recover. He will be sorely missed by the party and our hearts and prayers go out to his family.

There was no one else like you. I will always cherish our long road trips to political events. Thank you for the wisdom you imparted to me over the last several years. May God bless you and keep you. May God bring solace to those who loved you dearly.

  7. Mr. Rutledge was a great Republican. I am honored to have gotten the chance to know him in the past year. He has been an inspiration to the College Republicans for years and we will honor him by continuing our efforts to make 2008 a Republican year.

  8. John and I were usually on the same side representing the grassroots against the power elite. Working with John, on his side of the table, in representing and arguing for candidates on a grassroots delegate slate prior to the 2004 Republican Convention is one of my favorite memories of Party involvement. Good bless and keep you John.

  9. John Rutledge was a friend & mentor who was fast to make me a friend almost as soon as we first met. He took me into his “office” at AZGOP headquarters and gave me the facts of life ( according to John ). I will never be able to thank him enough for his advice.

John was a proud patriot , a Navy veteran , devoted husband , doting father and grandfather who was fond of spinning stories about his life experiences and family. Although I never had an opportunity to meet any one other than Sheila I felt as though I knew his entire family through his stories.

John was a great Republican and he had many victories from his days in Michigan and through out his many years in Arizona. John was always someone you wanted on your side and I can say that I cherished his support and friendship.

John will be greatly missed. He was feisty and knew how to get things done whenever he was called upon. All of us who will attend the GOP Convention were looking forward to our favorite Republican to stand at our side on the floor and at all of the events. John will be with us and I suspect he may already know the outcome of the election he was working so hard to win.

God bless you John Rutledge and God bless your family. You will be missed but your memory & good deeds will live on in all of our hearts.
