It’s my name on the show

The national media is going into overdrive on SB 1070, the Safe Neighborhoods bill just signed by Gov. Brewer.

For some reason, Arizona Senator Frank Antenori ended up as the point person to defend the law on liberal cable shows. Below is video of Frank and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez discussing SB 1070 with Dylan Ratigan of MSNBC. Frank is also scheduled to be on with CNN with Wolf Blitzer tonight.

This host, I will agree, is a dork. I still think the bill is shockingly unconstitutional and shockingly against the liberty of every citizen in this country.

But that Ratigan guy is a total moron.

  2. If Arizonans are split on the issue of securing the border let the half wishing to leave it unsecured return to their country of origin.

    kralmajales,

If you believe the bill is unconstitutional then exectly where are the conflicts you claim exist? Article, section and clause please.

  4. Today, Barack Obama took his rhetoric to the next level: “Our failure to act responsibly at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others. That includes, for example the recent efforts in Arizona, which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans.”

I will be supporting our new law. No doubt Barack Obama intends to mischaracterize SB1070 to push for amnesty and to assault 10th amendment rights. It’s utterly un-American to think we should sit still while being pillaged on the grounds that defending oneself unconstitutional. This sort of institutionalized lunacy has ruined too many lives already and it’s gone too far.

I oppose this bill not based on its intention but rather its affect on liberty, state economics, race relations and the time and place it was enacted in our history.

Ironically, the bandaid has been ripped off the scab and comprehensive immigration reform complete with a guest worker program and a path to citizenship will all be but a certainty at the federal level. If you thought healthcare was a touchy subject, wait until this rock starts rolling down the hill.

The partisan vote on heathcare will not repeat itself with comprehensive immigration reform due to sheer demographics of constituents in large metropolitian areas. The stench of a racist label (rightfully or not) will not be washed off as easily as a healthcare stand. Seats will be lost over this.

We are all witnesses and in some cases participants in American history. Let us hope it is for the right reasons.

  6. Wrong! Republicans who previously sided with AMNESTY (not comprehensive immigration reform) have already designated AMNESTY as a hot potato that will have no traction. This bill has enormous national support. Erroneously thinking she spear-headed this bill, people from other states are suggesting Jane Brewer should run for President. To name a few, residents of Oklahoma, Texas are applauding this bill, even expressing jealousy that their states haven’t done the same. SB1070 has tremendous multi-racial support as well. Face it, illegal immigration is national suicide, and thanks to Arizona a few more eyes are opening. Liberals need to burst out of that CNN, MSNBC bubble and get out under the big sky, Americans are fed up with the race-baiting and misinformation.

    Jane,

You are correct indeed, nightcrawler is very wrong. The sentiment of the citizens is very much anti-illegal alien. We see the crime, the cost to the taxpayer, the trashing of wage rates for formerly well paid jobs, the selfishness of not wanting to follow the rules of our nation, and the arrogance that, having done all that, they should be reqarded with a path to citizenship.

Nigghtcrawler is correct in that is pulled a scrab off a sore subject. It will not result in what he is hoping for. The left is handing the right every issue they need to beat then with in November. They left is already looking at landslide losses. A push for amnesty will simply add fat to the fire of BBQ’ed liberal in the fall.

Will seats be lost? Most assuredly and almost all are currently held by liberals/democrats.

  8. kralmajales says

The seats that Nightcrawler speaks of will be lost in states like New Mexico, Texas, California, Nevada, Colorado, Florida (seeing a pattern?). Nightcrawler is indeed right. The bigger issue is what your party and this draconian stance will do for any attempt you had at all of getting Hispanic voters into the GOP tent.

Most analysts said in states like Arizona and New Mexico that if the GOP could muster 30% of the Hispanic vote they win elections…less…it looks bad.

Also, you have just ignited a firestorm of angry people who will go to the polls…in an election where they normally will not.

President Obama’s message was clear. We stand with you, they stand against you. You all want to deport 10 million people. Fair enough…go for it…live with it. YOu will lose massively.

  9. kralmajales says

    Jane…

As you know, Ronald Reagan was for amnesty.

  10. kralmajales says

    Steven,

The constitutional principles I speak of are a long long line of cases about equal protection of the laws and Civil rights legislation that prohibits things like racial profiling. This law unmistakeably will lead to those challenges and portions of this law will be struck down.

The bigger problem is the unfunded mandate that it sends to our law enforcement officers…at the same time that their salaries and colleagues are being cut.

You have already said, Steven, that you even support deporting kids that have lived here for years after being brought here by their parents. Something most Americans and many many republicans disagree with in a massive way.

The more of THAT kind of thinking you all assert the much more fun it will be to watch you lose.

People don’t like cruelty. Acting tough and macho is not being tough. It just looks stupid.

  11. nightcrawler says

I mentioned this before, but it deserves repeating.

Replace the words illegal immigrant with the words domestic terrorist.

Imagine being pulled over and vetted because you look like a domestic terrorist. Because you have an NRA sticker on your truck, because you are a tea party member, because you have a “Don’t Tread On Me” tea shirt. This is a slippery slope that may come back to bite you in the rear.

The Libertarians have it right..Tyranny from the right is no different from Tyranny from the left. In fact it is worse, a betrayal of constitutional principles so often quoted by conservatives.

Not only does the GOP lose the Hispanics, but the Libertarians who make up a sizable piece of the tea party.

On a personal level, I have been a Republican nearly all my life starting in college during the Reagan years. This is deeply troubling to me and many people in my precinct who have brought up similar concerns. The polls mean nothing. Let us how real everyday people react.

  12. “Imagine being pulled over and vetted because you look like a domestic terrorist. ”

    ___

I had no idea reading was so painful for liberals. Instead of what’s written in black and white, you fixate on irrational media talking points. Aren’t you somewhat concerned that you appear informed?

  13. kralmajales says

    Nightcrawler,

I have been trying like hell to tell you this for months now. This is NOT the party you once belonged to or I belonged to. I don’t expect you to become a liberal, but I do expect you to remember that you have choices. You can hang out with the “new” GOP or you can get the hell out before you catch the same smell.

  14. Stephen Kohut says

    kralmajales,

Well, that was a long list of citations from the Constitution frm you that S1070 violates. Exactly what I expected. Hot air.

    nightcrawler,

“The polls mean nothing.” The cry of every one on the losing side of a political issue. I’ll sit back and laugh along with the 70% that support this bill, all the prior ballot measures and the politicians that backed them. 70% is a winner in any election. You know it and just can’t stand it.

I also suggeest you reread Reagan’s 3/1/75 speach at CPACas you have forgotten his call to return the GOP to the bright bold colors of platform conservatives and send the pastel moderates packing. We are answersing Reagans call. Do you need to pack up and move on?

  15. kralmajales says

It is a violation of the 4th Amendment. And remember also that the 4th Amendment, like all of our law includes the 200 years of case law used to interpret it. The reasonable suspicion issue was tossed out as similar issues were used against blacks during Jim Crow. The simple ability to pull someone over for a “broken headlight” or even “you aint from around here are you boy?”

Dont be stupid. If you know your constitution at all, you know that this is massive intrusion on the liberty of our citizens and non-citizens. It is the type of law that most of you SHOULD detest. Like George Will, David Brook’s, Fred Barnes, and soon the RNC I bet.

  16. kralmajales says

Reagan not only supported but enacted amnesty Steven. You know it, I know it. Reagan had the largest tax increase in American history. He also left our country more in debt that any previous President.

His rhetoric did not match his actions. If going back to Reagan is all you conservatives have, then I rest my case. There is, never was, never will be a world as you envision it. It is not even an idea that you practice as you are more than pleased to use the police and defense state actions of govt to do just about anything if it is directed against “illegal” immigrants and those who practice Islam.

  17. kralmajales says

Conservatism used to be riddled with hypocrisy and failure, it is now riddled with lies.
