Former Chairman Lyle Tuttle Steps In

Sonoran Alliance has just received this letter from the immediate former chairman of the Maricopa County Republican Party.

Dear Rep. Flake,

I write this letter to you to set the record straight with respect to the “J. T. Ready” issue.

As you may recall, I was still the Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC) Chairman until the new chairman was sworn in at very end of the January 19, 2008 MCRC meeting.  It was MY meeting, and I ran it; NOT the incoming MCRC Chairman.

As I recall, I was advised at that meeting that ‘someone’ (allegedly one J. T. Ready) was or had distributed some unauthorized materials on the seats in the room.

After a brief review of the materials, it was determined that these should be removed and they were.  Further, I personally made an announcement to those in attendance explaining why these materials were being removed; and further stated that if I knew for sure who was responsible for their placement, they would be removed from the facility.  I indicated that these materials and any other such materials were not authorized, and would not be tolerated.

With the aid of some of those in attendance the materials were removed and no new such material was proffered.

As I recall, at the meeting I spoke privately with the LD-18 District Chairman, and we discussed the man who was suspected of this unauthorized distribution of materials.

I take offense at your letter(s) accusing Chairman Husband of taking no action on this matter.  I feel that he, like me, felt that my very public and emphatic announcement on the matter was adequate to forestall any further such distribution of these materials.

Now, I’m not running for any office, I am only interested in stopping this unwarranted, politically motivated, back-door attack on three gentlemen that I genuinely admire:  Chairman Tom Husband, District Chairman Matt Tolman and Representative Russell Pearce.

I ask you why, if you feel so strongly about removing Ready as a precinct committeeman, did you wait until now to bring it up?  You did not even speak to me at the January meeting as I recall – why did you not ask me about it or give me some hint as to what you thought the proper action would be?  Why do you wait until now, mere days prior to his term ending?

I think we all know the reason for that, and I think it is pathetic.

A concerned Republican,

Lyle Tuttle, Past Maricopa County Republican Chairman

  1. Now that’s the way to build party unity and inspire service!

    Sign me up!

And we wonder why our CD’s are turning blue, our LD’s can’t seem to get a handle on how to elect leaders that can stand up to the governor, and even our PC’s are at each other’s throats.

  2. Excellent Mr. Tuttle. Thank you for courageously saying exactly what needed to be said. It isn’t “my Congressmen right or wrong.” We were conservative before we were Republican.

Flakes dirty campaign tactic on behalf of his brother-in-law needed to be called out, again.

Lyle Tuttle and Tom Husband. There is courageous and decent Republican leadership in this state.

  3. The circular firing squad continues….oh brother.

  4. Pretty weak response to a legit question, and then, in order to protect himself further, attacks the person who asks the question. All it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.

  5. Jack, it looks like the Congressmen did nothing and then complained because they didn’t like the way people who actually did something got it done.

Ann, it is the Congressmen who are tearing up party unity with their open letter. Why didn’t they just call Tom Husband and talk to him? Why didn’t they do ANYTHING back in January? Is writing a letter right before PC elections constructive criticism?

  6. Jeff Flake for US Senator. Janet and Russell…get outta her. Just saying

  7. Hunter- You can’t have it both ways. Republican leadership at the local party level is responsible for overseeing the ranks. That is not the role of a Congressman. Anyone, whether elected or interested, has a voice in influencing Republican self-governance. Tom should be more respectful to all, whether or not he agrees. Ready creates a big problem for the party. Those willing to accept that problem are willing to lose out of some deranged sense of principle.

  8. At that County meeting most rank and file members didnt know what was going on. Most never realized what had happened even after the announcements and many just dont really care because to them the racist rhetoric was just from “some fringe group”.
Thats exactly how the Nazis gained power in Germany.

  9. The kind of hateful language which has become the rallying cry of those leading the MCRC where they demonize illegals has been used before. It was once used in Missouri by Lilburn Boggs when he issued his extermination order to get rid of the Mormons.
“open and avowed defiance of the laws, and of having made war upon the people of this State … the Mormons must be treated as enemies, and must be exterminated or driven from the State if necessary for the public peace—their outrages are beyond all description.” Lilbury Boggs Missouri Executive Order 44.
    How soon they forget.
