Coalition for a Conservative Majority will be meeting this Monday at the Starfire Golf Resort, at 7pm. Ward Connerly will be speaking about the AZ Civil Rights Initiative, which will ban racial and gender preferences in government. There is less than a month left to collect enough signatures to get it on the ballot, and the initiative is running into opposition from an out-of-state domestic terrorist group (labeled as such by the FBI), BAMN, which is blocking petition signature gatherers from collecting signatures. Come to the meeting and hear how you can help. CCM will also be setting up subgroups at the meeting to address specific policy issues.
Phoenix-area Activists Create New Conservative Grassroots Organization
A new grassroots organization aimed at furthering conservative activism started in the Phoenix-area and is looking for like-minded members. The group, Coalition for a Conservative Majority – Phoenix chapter, is the local chapter of the national organization founded by former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and Chaired by former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell.
As the first order of business, the CCM Phoenix chapter has requested meetings with their area members of Congress, whether they’re conservative, liberal, or anything in between. Chapter President Michael Johns said earlier today the group will focus on monitoring federal and state policies to ensure that conservative thought is represented. “It’s time conservatives take a page out of the liberals’ playbook and start holding our politicians accountable for the actions here and in Washington,” Johns said. “CCM will be the primary organization that will hold their feet to the fire.”
The National Chairman of CCM, former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, said the Phoenix chapter is one of nine targeted media markets with a burgeoning CCM chapter. “Across the country we are seeing candidates who run as Barry Goldwater, then govern more like Walter Mondale. CCM is here to keep their voting records in line with true conservative ideology.” During their recent monthly meeting, the organization elected a board and developed an organizational plan. The aim of the group, said Johns, is to unite the different factions of conservatives – security, social, and fiscal – into one organization that can work on a variety of fronts. “We don’t care if you’re here to fight illegal immigration or higher taxes – if you call
yourself a conservative and you want to join the fight, you’re welcome to join CCM.”
CCM Phoenix’s chapter President Michael Johns has over 20 years of experience in industry management, public policy and federal and state government. He has served in executive capacities in the pharmaceutical, specialty pharmaceutical, home health, and medical device and medical supply industries. Prior to joining the health care industry, Johns was a White House
speechwriter to former President George H. W. Bush, a senior aide to former New Jersey Governor and 9/11 Commission chairman Thomas Kean, and a policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based public policy research institute.
Johns has written for The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, National Review, Policy Review and other national publications and is the author of one of the nation’s more widely-read conservative public policy blogs. He has appeared on PBS, CNBC, C-SPAN, Fox Morning News, Sirius Satellite, the Voice of America and other networks. In addition to his role as President of CCM Phoenix, Johns is also a member of PAChyderm, Arizona’s leading conservative political action committee. He is a graduate of the University of Miami, where he majored in economics and graduated with honors.
