Water Board Candidates to Consider

I got the following missive from Ron Ludders, the former head of the North Phoenix TEA Party (now marginalized by the RINO Wes Harris, a Republican Party Trojan horse), and the head of the AZ 2010 Project. Ron is right, many of us don’t pay attention to the down ballot races, but we should. We need TEA Party candidates not only in the big races, but in ALL races: school board, water board, etc. Ron sheds a lot of light on who we should consider voting for with our early ballots or at the polls on Nov. 2nd. I know I’m going to be bringing this list with me to the polls. Ron’s e-mail follows:

Most of you know how you wish to vote on high profile political offices, but far too few have much knowledge of the contest for Central Arizona Water Conservation District election.

The Central Arizona Project is managed and operated by the Central Arizona Water Conservation District (CAWCD). CAWCD is a municipal corporation, also known as a public improvement district. This governmental entity was formed to repay the federal government for the reimbursable costs of construction and to operate, maintain, and manage CAP.

CAWCD employs more than 400 people who are responsible for system maintenance and operations, repayment obligations, and creating water resource management programs for Arizona. The day to day operations are managed by the General Manager and senior management team.

The General Manager reports to the 15-member CAWCD Board of Directors. Members of the Board of Directors are popularly elected from CAP’s three-county service area including Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal counties and serve staggered six-year terms. The Board is responsible for establishing policy and usually meets twice a month.

The Board of Directors is responsible for establishing policies for governing the Board and the functions of the CAWCD. Policies governing the operation, pricing of water, use of facilities, etc., are adopted by the Board as needed. Policies are reviewed on a regular basis to determine their continued relevance and, if deemed to be no longer relevant, may be repealed by the Board.

We have the unique opportunity this year to elect conservative, Tea Party candidates to this little known but important Board.

Please cast your vote for the following five (5) candidates and let everyone you know to support these dedicated patriots:

Press Release from Keep AZ Drug Free

BREAKING NEWS — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sept 28, 2010

The Glaucoma Foundation warns patients of dangers of using marijuana.

In their newsletter released late on Sept 27, 2010, the Glaucoma Foundation
warned patients with glaucoma not to use marijuana. They specifically
criticized efforts by pro-marijuana forces to use incomplete evidence in
their quest to make marijuana acceptable. Although marijuana does decrease
intraocular pressure, it is very short-acting and would have to be smoked
every few hours day and night to be effective. Otherwise, people will suffer
rebound spikes in intraocular pressure which could trigger glaucoma attacks.
Marijuana can also decrease blood supply to the optic nerve, also worsening
glaucoma.

The American Glaucoma Society has already warned against using marijuana to
treat glaucoma, but highlighted their concern in a February editorial in the
Journal of Glaucoma warning patients not to use marijuana. This came after
their position statement of August 2009, also saying that marijuana was not
recommended for glaucoma. However, the warnings are getting stronger as more
evidence comes in.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has also warned that marijuana could
be harmful for people with multiple sclerosis. And the American Cancer
Society has said there is not enough evidence to recommend marijuana for
anything.  The Institute of Medicine, an independent agency, did the most
complete review of the research on marijuana and came to the conclusion that
marijuana is not medicine.

Ed Gogek, M.D. is an addiction psychiatrist and steering committee member of
Keep AZ Drug Free, the committee opposing Propositon 203, the so-called
medical marijuana law on November¹s ballot in Arizona.

Dr. Gogek says, “The demand for medical marijuana is not coming from doctors
or patient care organizations. It’s coming entirely from pot-smokers.
They’re running a million dollar ad campaign in our state trying to convince
people that marijuana is medicine, and that is simply not true.  Based on
almost no evidence, they’ve been pushing the idea that marijuana is good for
glaucoma, but now the evidence is coming in that it’s actually dangerous.
That’s one more reason these medical marijuana laws are so harmful. You
don’t prescribe a medicine on one person’s story or wishful thinking; you
have to look at all the research. That’s what the FDA does and that’s why we
should trust the FDA instead of a bunch of pot-smokers.”

From their website: The mission of The Glaucoma Foundation (TGF) is to fund
groundbreaking research and to educate the public about the disease and the
importance of early detection to prevent blindness. Founded in1984 by Dr.
Robert Ritch, TGF is one of the premier not-for-profit organizations
dedicated to eradicating blindness from glaucoma through vital research and
education.

not medicine.)

RINO LD6 House Candidate David Fitzgerald is A Hillary Clinton Supporter and Contributor

“Constitutional Conservative” RINO David Fitzgerald, a Republican candidate for the Arizona House in Legislative District 6, proclaims himself a “Constitutional Conservative” but this suppose constitutional conservative gave $250.00 to Hillary Clinton in 2005. Don’t believe me? This link has the gory details and also raises some interesting questions if David has been truthful about his support for Hillary Clinton.

Personally, I don’t know any other “constitutional conservatives” who are also donors to Hilary Clinton. I wonder which of Hillary Clinton’s positions motivated David to contribute? Could it have been her support of abortion-on-demand? Her support for raising taxes? Her support for cap and trade? Her support for a single government payer health care system? Maybe, it was just her general loathing for the Constitution and free-markets that inspired David to make his first ever reported political donation.

The term RINO is used on this site regularly to label Republican that don’t hold true to the conservative principle on all issues. I can’t think of an act that earns you the title RINO better than supporting and giving your hard earned dollars to Hillary Clinton (well, maybe giving to Obama would worse but that is debatable).

Arizona Election Spending Levels at Record Highs

Dateline: A private lunch at  Charley Clark’s in Pinetop, August 15, 2010

POP QUIZ KIDDIES…

Is this Governor Brewer rewarding Konopnicki and McCain for their single handed economic stimulus of Arizona’s economy this campaign season?  McCain tops $20 million spent while Konopnicki tops $110,000 for a $24,000/yr State Senate seat.

Is this a photo of Arizona’s Border Hawks standing strong on Comprehensive Immigration Reform?

Are these the true (Tea Party) conservatives who’ll roll back big government and reduce taxes?

Does this photo give Jeff Vath a warm tingle down his leg?

Does Jan Brewer really know what these guys represent?

Is this how John McCain rewards  the GOP Chairman (guy on the far right) who verbally harassed a senior woman voter into removing a JD Hayworth sign from her yard?  Guess he made up his own version of that story for the governor.

Or are these the Hero’s of the New Republican Party that will wrest power away from the Democrats come November and lead this county and state to a greater tomorrow??

We wish to thank the gentleman from Graham County on the far right for making this photo available.  Be sure to share this link with voters in Eastern Arizona.

LD7 Candidate Heather Carter, the AEA’s favorite “Republican”

This past week, LD7 candidate, Heather Carter, was featured in the Arizona Republic’s “My Turn” section.

“What does the future hold for Arizona? I envision a vibrant economic community, where people are employed, businesses are thriving and children are well-educated. I want a safe Arizona with a secure national border.”

(NOTE: The Republic makes it pretty clear to candidates that they will not be editing or proof-reading any candidate statements. All “My Turn” articles are published as-is and it is up to the candidate to make sure they submit only their best work. Fair enough, since the Republic interns are busy writing the news for the next day…)

“I am running for office to do the job that needs to get done – create a plan for Arizona that enables us to balance the budget, set a course for the future and focus on strong schools, strong economy and a safe community. I think part of the problem at the capital is people lose sight of the core mission…”

Now, I’m not sure what subject Mrs. Carter taught our LD7 children in school, but she must have had at least one dictionary in her classroom… Or maybe not, since she doesn’t know the difference between, “capital: as in, financial capital” and “capitol: as in the buildings making up our state capitol which Mrs. Carter wishes to serve in”. Let’s just hope she’s never taught civics/government/economics or any of the reading/English classes available to our kids.

“…get caught up in special-interest agenda items that take time and energy away from what we should be doing…”

Wait a second. I remember reading something about this… Oh yeah: Heather Carter was endorsed by the liberal AEA Union. This liberal union has been responsible for threatening legislators, protesting on the capitol lawn, holding back the budget process, as well as encouraging teachers to push Prop 100 using our kids. We’d like to know if Heather Carter was following her union boss in the picket lines last Spring. Seems like the only way the AEA union would endorse a Republican is if they knew they had her in their special-interest pocket…

Let’s make sure we support real conservatives, this August and November. Not union lackeys.

EGC Resolution Endorses Montgomery for County Attorney

RESOLUTION

Concerning the Maricopa County Attorney 2010 Republican Primary Election

Whereas, Bill Montgomery has a proven record of prosecutorial success at the County Level, and

Whereas, Republican Candidate Bill Montgomery has vowed to vigorously prosecute those arrested under SB1070, and

Whereas, Bill Montgomery commands the respect of all agencies to which he must interact as County Attorney including Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the Board of Supervisors, and

Whereas, Interim Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley has endorsed numerous Democrat Party Candidates for office, even when in direct violation of Maricopa County Republican by-laws (e.g. 2002 Democrat Candidate for Secretary of State Chris Cummiskey, 2008 Democrat Candidate for Maricopa County Attorney Tim Nelson, and 2008 Democrat Candidate for Maricopa County Sheriff Dan Saban), and

Whereas, Rick Romley has abandoned his lawful responsibilities as County Attorney and refused to prosecute illegal immigrants under Arizona’s human smuggling law, which has a 94% prosecution success rate under former County Attorney Andrew Thomas, and

BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Executive Guidance Council of the Maricopa County Republican Committee endorses Bill Montgomery for Maricopa County Attorney in the upcoming Primary Election to be held on August 24, 2010.

Robert S. Graham Releases New Video, Calls on Conservatives to Rise Up, Unify and Fight

Scottsdale, Ariz. Arizona businessman and political activist Robert Graham released another video this week, all about unifying behind the right candidates at the right time.  Graham has been working hard over the last several months raising money and awareness for conservative candidates all across the country.  In doing so, he has been spreading his message for victory to fellow conservatives in 2010: Rise up, Unify, and Fight.

In the video, available online at www.GrahamForArizona.com, Graham exhorts fellow Conservatives to work with him in finding candidates who can not only win in November, but who will represent the ideals and principles which the United States was founded upon.  He calls on friends and neighbors to make phone calls, knock doors, and even make monetary contributions to campaigns able to take back some power from the Obama administration.

“For too long, the Federal Government has been out of touch with the citizens it is supposed to represent,” said Graham.  “I will be working non-stop until election day to make sure we have a government that is of the people, by the people and, more importantly, for the people.  In order to be effective, though, we as Americans need to rise up, unify, and fight for the ideals we believe in.”

Arizona U.S. Senate field of dreams

An online poll posted at a liberal Arizona website is showing John Dougherty the Democratic choice.  I would have posted his own website’s pic of John, but he’s wearing a bit too much eye make-up to be taken seriously.  When combined with the angle and his haircut, the effect is truly studding for a U.S. Senate candidate!  Have a look: http://www.johndougherty2010.com/

Congressional aide to Congressman Raúl Grijalva now Tucson city councilman, meet 1st Lt Glassman USAFR. Hey, this pic is direct from his website.

We think the Democratic candidate for the AZ U.S. Senate seat (John Dougherty) is the guy in the middle, but we're not sure. This is what happens to old liberal journalistas.

We're sure Parraz is the one in the middle this time. An organizer from the California strawberry fields, Randy is the former director of the Az AFL-CIO

Rodolfo "Rudy" Garcia, a community organizer and advocate of Obama's Change. How's that working out for ya? And yes, a cog in the Grijalva / Pima County culture of corruption.

We're not sure, but this is either the Cat-in-the-Hat or the JMac secret weapon. Either way, we're sure his political future in Arizona is fully sun baked.

As liberal as Arlan Specter, this old AZ senator has had 22 years to listen to Arizona and DO something about our border!

Consistantly Conservative and right for Arizona.

Is it time for him to ‘Buz’ off?

The mounting controversies surrounding Buz Mills are making it increasingly likely that he will not be able to continue his campaign for Governor much longer.  The Arizona Capitol Times and other news outlets are reporting that he is rapidly losing momentum in the contest:

Revelations that Mills had defrauded business partner in Florida and conflicting messages from his campaign that muddied his position on Arizona’s employer sanctions law have set the stage for attacks against him in the Republican gubernatorial primary.

Republican consultant Constantin Querard said Mills’ campaign has been damaged, and the negative image will get worse if he doesn’t address the issue more thoroughly.

“It does have the potential to cost him the race,” Querard said.  Most damaging, perhaps, was the news on April 26 that a Florida judge ruled in 2001 that Mills had defrauded a business partner during the sale of his telecommunications company.

According to court documents, Mills bilked business partner John Mortellite out of several million dollars by arranging the sale of OPM-USA, Inc. without telling Mortellite and then buying out Mortellite’s 10-percent share of the company for much less than it was worth. Mills and his wife, Sonja, owned 90 percent of the communications company.
The overwhelming evidence that he defrauded a former business partner out of millions of dollars in Florida is being viewed by many observers as something that could very will be an insurmountable obstacle for Buz Mills:

Pollster Bruce Merrill, an Arizona State University professor who runs the Cronkite/Eight Poll, said the fraud ruling has the potential to damage Mills’ campaign.

“In a primary race, it certainly could hurt,” Merrill said. “I think the key thing would be whether one of his opponents would use it as the basis for a commercial or something like that.”

Mortellite was a neighbor of the Millses in 1995 when the three of them formed OPM, which was created to build cellular towers and sell them to communications companies. Mortellite bought a 10 percent share of the company for $100,000.

Mills’ dispute with Mortellite began in 1997 after Mills began talks with American Tower L.P. to sell OPM-USA, which he ultimately sold for $105 million. But he bought out Mortellite for just $1.5 million without telling him about American Tower’s offer or disclosing OPM’s full value, according to court documents. Mills even told Mortellite to extend a vacation for several weeks to keep him from finding out about the negotiations with American Tower.

When Mortellite returned from vacation, Mills fired him. Later, at an August 1997 board meeting, Mortellite agreed to leave the company and take the buyout based on an incorrect assumption about the company’s value, according to court documents. Mills didn’t tell Mortellite about American Tower’s offer, even when Mortellite’s attorney asked at the board meeting whether OPM was involved in any pending transactions.
How can Buz possibly continue his race for Governor now that this has come to light?  More importantly, what else don’t we know about this man and his background?  Can conservatives really vote for him in good conscience and expect him to uphold their values?  Is it time for him to ‘Buz’ off?

Voting was never a root canal

Emil FranziOnce again Oro Valley is conducting a mail-in election. And once again I will tell you why the concept is fundamentally wrong.

It makes voting easier? Check Iraq or Afghanistan or lots of other places trying to build democratic regimes where they still shoot at you for making the attempt. Voting was pretty damn easy here for quite a while.

My liberal Democrat radio co-host Tom Danehy, who shares my opinion on this subject, reminds us of a news clip from a Philippine election in which an official with a ballot box is being chased by a group of thugs. Not shown is the part where they succeeded and killed him. I witnessed a few years back huge lines in Rocky Point when they were holding something unusual in Mexico – a real election. People wanted to be part of it.

We had it pretty soft. Having to actually leave home and go to a safe polling place isn’t exactly a root canal.

Voting by mail does make it easier – for the election bureaucracy. They prefer to use the money involved to hire a few more permanent employees rather than go through the hassle (for them) of using Election Day temps.

The costs involved are clearly increased in some areas (postage) and decreased in others (poll workers), but that should never be a deciding factor. Ahead of even cops, courts and armies, choosing who’s in charge is the first and most primary duty of government.

At-home voting destroys the secret ballot. Why do you think we have those little booths and curtains? So husbands can’t muscle wives or wives husbands. Mailing out ballots is an invitation to cajole by anyone from the family patriarch and union boss to your mama.

It’s also quite obviously a fraud magnet. Why the same Republicans who are convinced thousands of illegal aliens are voting at the polls are ignoring a system that eliminates their having to go there to do it is beyond me. I recognize that most voting systems are legit, but it doesn’t take much dog barf to ruin an otherwise great burger.

While supposedly being in the best interest of individual voters, the at home ballot can screw them in two ways by returning it too early or returning it too late.

Return it too early and you may learn something that would’ve changed your mind about a candidate or an issue. The elimination of late information was sold as a virtue by advocates of early voting because it would eliminate last-minute smears. It also eliminates last-minute facts. Which is why many folks hold onto their ballot until the last minute.

Only return it too late and it doesn’t count. One stat I have never seen election officials produce is how many ballots get tossed every time for late delivery.

But my greatest complaint is that the entire concept (beyond taking care of the ballots of those physically unable to get to a polling place including those who are out of town) is totally demeaning to the election process.

What advocates are really saying is “we recognize this voting thing is really not important to you. You’re right — it’s no big deal. We want to make it so easy it won’t inconvenience you at all.” Turnout is not increased by telling people voting is not worth much effort.

Election days used to be local and national events. They were part of that Norman Rockwell kind of glue that helped hold the country and its culture together. To eliminate them is to eliminate one more part of what made America a great nation.

Appropriate Tool: AZGOP Chairman Pullen Pushes Sales Tax Hike

[The following “Dear Voters” letter will appear in the official Secretary of State’s Ballot Proposition Voter's Guide that will be mailed to Arizona’s 3,116,089 registered voters before the May 18, 2010 special election. It’s ironic that Randy Pullen paid the full $100 to submit this argument rather than saving $25 and paying only $75 had he provided the text in electronic format. But hey, it’s only money!  MBW]

Dear Voters,

As you consider Proposition 100, I think it is important to look at Arizona’s budget crisis in context:

In just 3 years, state tax revenues have declined by over 35%. This is the worst recession the state has ever faced. Arizona’s state revenues are at or below 2004 revenues [sic] levels. At the same time, since 2004, Arizona has grown – adding over 140,000 students to K-12 and the University system, over 11,000 new prisoners and over 475,000 Medicaid enrollees. The result is Arizona is trying to do more today with less – to serve a growing population.

Arizona must continue to attract new businesses and new talent to the state, as well as support our existing small businesses throughout the state. With new business, future tax cuts for individuals and businesses will help attract investment and grow our future economy. Making Arizona as business friendly as possible is the key to our long-term economic success.

However, in the interim, it is appropriate for Arizona to look for a temporary revenue source to maintain critical government functions such as public safety and education services to our growing population. As such, a temporary one-cent sales tax increase is a reasonable solution to this problem. A majority of Republican legislators, along with Democrats in both state houses voted to place Proposition 100 on the ballot.

Combined with a comprehensive tax reform package that reduces future taxes for both individuals and businesses, Prop 100 would be an appropriate tool to help Arizona build towards economic recovery and meet the needs of a fast growing state.

Sincerely,

Randy Pullen

STATEMENT BY JOHN MUNGER ON CLEAN ELECTIONS PR PLAN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STATEMENT BY JOHN MUNGER ON CLEAN ELECTIONS PR PLAN

(PHOENIX, AZ) January 29, 2010 – Republican Gubernatorial candidate John Munger released the following statement:

After suffering a crippling defeat in federal court, the Citizens Clean Elections Commission has decided to spend $2 million of its $12.6 million 2010 budget on a public relations campaign designed to promote itself as having been created “by the people, for the people.”

No amount of whitewashing can cover up the recent U.S. District Court ruling that Arizona’s Clean Elections Act violates the free speech rights of traditional candidates through the use of matching funds.  And there’s no getting around the fact that the “people” who ultimately benefit from the Act are professional politicians who use it as a money trough to fund their election campaigns.

$2 million can buy a lot of PR.  But Arizona voters are smart enough to look past the hype and see the scam that “clean elections” has unfortunately become.

Dana Marie Kennedy: a far left partisan extremist, and proud of it

You have to hand it to Phoenix City Council Democrat candidate Dana Marie Kennedy: she isn’t afraid to tell voters what she’s about. She is running against Republican incumbent Sal DeCiccio.

Normally liberal candidates for office try to downplay or even hide their far left-wing views, but not Dana.  Her website proudly displays the support she is receiving from all kinds of far-left organizations and politicians http://www.kennedyforphoenix.com/links.html.  Here are a few:

Congressman Raul Grijalva (from Tucson no less!)
Congressman Ed Pastor
Arizona Representative Kyrsten Sinema
Arizona Representative David Lujan
Don Bivens, Arizona Democrat Party chair
Arizona List (rabid pro-abortion group)
Planned Parenthood (see above)
Attorney General Terry Goddard
Arizona Senator Ken Cheuvront
City Councilman Michael Nowakowski
Arizona Senator Leah Landrum Taylor
AFSCME (government employees union)
AFA-CWA (union)

One would think she would be hesitant to advertise this as she’s running in a relatively conservative council district.  But we suppose it’s hardly surprising given the woman says her political idol is Paul Wellstone!  http://www.azcentral.com/community/ahwatukee/articles/2009/07/31/20090731phx-cityhall0801.html

And we’re still waiting for her to be criticized for injecting partisanship into the supposedly non-partisan race, as Randy Pullen was when he ran for Mayor.

But regardless, Kennedy gets an A+ for honesty.  But an F for political acumen.

Vote Smart Arizona!

Here is a great resource put together by our friends at the Center for Arizona Policy. This is a non-partisan voters guide of who and what is on your ballot.
