Congressman Matt Salmon Statement in Remembrance of September 11th Attacks

Washington—Today, Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ-05) released the following statement in remembrance of the September 11th attacks in the United States of America and in Benghazi, Libya.

“Today, we take a moment to observe the anniversary of the horrific attack on the United States of America that shook the very soul of our nation. Twelve years ago, we were hit, but not defeated. As Americans always do, we stood back up with strong resolve to move forward. Let us remember the brevity of life, the presence of evil in this world, and the strength we see in America’s heroes. We are grateful for their countless acts of courageous service and sacrifice.

“On this day, we also remember the four American service members and diplomats struck down by terrorists one year ago in Benghazi, Libya. We must continue to pursue justice in their name.

“As our nation moves forward from these tragic events, we resolve to never forget and to never stop sacrificing for those values that matter most—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. May God continue to comfort the families of the victims and heroes, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.”

Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ-05) serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs as Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere. He is also a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

Maricopa GOP Chair Rallies LD Censures

To all Arizona County and LD Republican Committee Chairmen –
Below is the front page article of the July 15 Arizona Capitol Times. I want to express my appreciation to those courageous and principled County and LD Republican Committees who have already conducted votes of “censure” and/or “no confidence.”
Jan Brewer, the legislators and their crony capitalist friends that support ObamaCare and Medicaid expansion have betrayed Americans, Arizona Republicans and the Republican Party Platform.  Their lack of ethics, integrity and egregious acts are motivated by only two things – greed and the lust for power – at the expense of hard working tax paying Americans.
The law was expected to cost $898 billion over the first decade when the bill was first passed, but this year the Congressional Budget Office revised that estimate to $1.85 trillion.  Money that will have to be borrowed from the Chinese or printed in the backroom of the Federal Reserve.  Latest polls indicate a majority of Americans are opposed to ObamaCare and Medicaid expansion with an overwhelming majority of Republicans in opposition.
During the past six months, we did everything we could to make a solid argument against ObamaCare and Medicaid expansion, we tried to reason with these people and even tried to make them see the light.  Unfortunately, our lobbying efforts fell on deaf ears and without success.
During one of Ronald Reagan’s difficult political battles he said,
“When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.”
I’m asking all the County and LD Republican Committees to make these people feel the heat by passing public censures for their actions.  They are elitists who think what they have done should be forgiven. They are mistaken.  We are not going to be able to defeat all of them, but we can defeat a majority of them in the 2014 Primary Election.
You can go to “MCRC Briefs” and get examples of public censures that have already been passed.  Just type “censure” in the search field on the left.
Warmest regards,
 A. J. LaFaro
Chairman, Maricopa County Republican Committee
P.S.  Please encourage all of your PCs to keep up their daily efforts in getting petition signatures for  Getting ObamaCare and Medicaid expansion on the November 2014 ballot will be historic for Arizona’s grassroots conservatives.

Rep. Paul Gosar Introduces the F.A.U.L.T Act

Congressman Paul Gosar

‘Sending billions of taxpayer dollars overseas to hostile countries is unconscionable’

WASHINGTON, D.C. -U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S (AZ-04) introduced the Foreign Assistance Under Limitation and Transparency Act or the F.A.U.L.T Act. This legislation is intended to limit foreign aid to five countries that undermine U.S. foreign policy objectives – Iran, North Korea, Syria, Egypt, and Pakistan. Rep. Gosar issued the following statement:

“Sending billions of taxpayer dollars overseas to hostile countries is unconscionable. Yet, only in Washington, D.C. does it make sense to pay other governments to undermine our foreign policy objectives.”

Rep. Gosar continued, “When countries like Iran, North Korea, Syria, Egypt, and Pakistan act like enemies rather than friends toward the United States and our allies, the time to cut them off from U.S. taxpayer dollars is now.”

Rep. Gosar previously introduced amendments to the last two Department of Defense Appropriations Acts that sought to ensure that foreign aid was not given to hostile international regimes and organizations.  He has introduced the F.A.U.L.T Act as stand-alone legislation in the hope to expand upon these principles and codify them into law.

As the first decade of the 21st century nears an end, the Middle East is a region with multiple conflicts that impact the world, and particularly the United States. With Iran crossing the nuclear threshold, civil wars raging in Iraq, Sudan, and Yemen, Christians embattled across the region, with Israel in existential peril and its survival being questioned, and radical Islam sweeping beyond the region, it is imperative, as Americans, that we have a knowledge and understanding of this region. Historian, author, and radio personality, Dr. Steven Carol can shed light on these issues and answer questions that arise. His books can be purchased at the seminar.

Big First Day for Border Fence Donation Website

CONTACT: Mike Philipsen

People from all 50 states offer financial support

(State Capitol, Phoenix) – The totals are in from the first day of donations to help build a fence along the Arizona-Mexico border. More than $58,000 poured in to from 1,265 donors in just the first 24 hours.

“The Federal Government has made it abundantly clear that it has no interest in addressing the invasion of drug cartels, violent gangs, illegal aliens and terrorists along the border. The U.S. wants this problem addressed, and this is one way we’re doing it,” says Sen. Steve Smith, a Republican from Maricopa. Smith sponsored SB 1406, legislation that established a website for the purpose of raising private money to help build a border fence.

The border remains porous, and Arizona is taking one step toward true border security. From California to Texas, the southern border is approximately 2,000 miles, and only roughly 685 miles is fenced. The remaining 1300+ miles of the border have no fencing at all.

All the funds raised at are held in a trust fund account in the Arizona State Treasurer’s Office. The Joint Border Security Advisory Committee, established in the bill, will oversee the project.

Every state in the union was represented on the first day of donations, and that does not surprise Sen. Smith.

“We have always said with illegal immigration, ‘what happens in Arizona doesn’t stay in Arizona’. This is a crisis for the nation, and it is gratifying to know that all 50 states agree,” says Sen. Smith.

Speaker Tobin Calls for Cyber Terrorists to be Held Accountable

CONTACT: Daniel Scarpinato

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX (June 24, 2011) – Speaker Andy Tobin released the following statement in response to the hacking group LulzSec breaking into the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s computers on Thursday and downloading hundreds of files:

“I am outraged to learn that a group of international hackers have illegally stolen and released hundreds of law enforcement files from the Department of Public Safety. Even more outrageous is that they have done this in response to the Legislature and Governor’s efforts to secure our border and protect Arizona citizens by passing SB1070. Instead, this extremist group has now put hundreds of Arizona’s finest in danger. These cyber terrorists should be prosecuted to the full extent possible. Their actions have compromised the safety of our brave law enforcement officers and their families. Therefore, we will be looking at whether additional policy is needed to fully hold them accountable in the event the release of this information results in harm to any of our public safety officers or their families.”

National ID, Misguided State Legislation, the Clintons and E-Verify: What do they have in Common?

States send children’s school enrollment data to the Feds.  This data has always been protected under FERPA and other privacy laws.

Now the Department of Education is creating new regulations rolling back the privacy of that data – as the federal government always does once they have the data they want – so they can use it for other purposes not agreed to previously by the students, parents, or states.

You Have Until Monday, May 23…to Object to DOE’s Invasion of Student Privacy

The Department of Education (DOE) has proposed regulatory changes that would gut the primary federal student-privacy statute, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA imposes strict limits on how the government may use so-called Personally Identifiable Information (PII) collected on students by schools or government education agencies. Under the proposed changes to the regulations issued under FERPA, DOE would enable a system of massive data collection on students – potentially including such things as family income range, hair color, blood type, and health-care history – that could then be shared with other government agencies (both federal and in other states) for unspecified purposes. This disclosure of PII could be accomplished without parents’ consent, and in most cases without even their knowledge.

And because the data-collection and sharing would begin when the student is in preschool and follow him even through his entry into the workforce, the possibilities of breach of privacy and unwarranted use of data are almost limitless.

Follow the student into the workforce.  Here we go, it’s the Clinton “Goals 2000” program all over again.

From the Eagle Forum’s opposition to this published in 1996

Two other bills, still pending, are designed to advance the School-to-Work phase of Goals 2000. The Careers Act (H.R. 1617) and the Workforce Development Act (S.143) will support a nationwide workforce development system, state by state. Funding is provided for “one stop career” employment agencies under the supervision of the federal government. Please, let’s not let these bills become law.

E-Verify is a front-end user interface sitting ontop of the Clinton’s vision of cradle to grave workforce development, school-to-work initiatives.

The data being released under the new Department of Education regulatory changes goes right into the database sitting behind e-Verify:

The concept of “state longitudinal data systems” (SLDS) is the driving force behind the proposed regulatory changes. In its attempt to further federalize education through Race to the Top and other statutes, DOE wants to construct massive and interconnected data systems that will allow various government agencies – and even private entities, perhaps including employers — to access students’ personal information without the knowledge or consent of the students or their parents. SLDS structures in some states, such as Illinois, already contemplate the sharing of PII for purposes far beyond effective education of children – for example, to create “a network of federal, state, and local offices that . . . facilitate the development of the United States workforce.” Indeed, DOE itself argues that “there is no reason why a State health and human services or labor department, for example, should be precluded from . . . receiving non-consensual disclosures of PII to link education, workforce, health, family services, and other data”

There are even “conservatives” who read and remark on SonoranAlliance about how two wrongs DO make a right.  In other words, since the federal government already has the data “who cares?” – let’s just use it to achieve our momentary agenda and not worry what the Dems do when they get into power and have the database.

Beyond being a ridiculous an liberal point of view conservatives who assert the above hold, where is the constitution in all of this?

A cursory read of the constitution says NOTHING about this data collection, sharing or spending any money to do any of it!

It’s just not in there.

So, the days of “conservatives” asserting unconstitutionalism is coming to a close.  You either believe in the constitution or you don’t.  Saying you believe in it means nothing.  ACTING in support of (or against as many conservatives now do) the constitution means EVERYTHING.

Thank you to a previous SA commenter for this apt quote.  Two wrongs still do not make a right.

…when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government…

Teaparty, y’all!
