Just in case you missed it…..

Greg Patterson has a new post up on Espresso Pundit…

http://www.espressopundit.com/2010/08/unfit-to-serve.html#comments

Greg makes his case for why he is NOT voting for Andrew Thomas and IS voting for Tom Horne.

The sentiments expressed are echoed by long-time conservatives across the state.  These people understand Tom Horne is not a closet Democrat.  He is very much like many others of his generation who grew up in homes and areas where the Democratic party was very different than what it is now.  They also understand the reality of just who is Andrew Thomas.

Tom Horne served for years as a Republican, has fought the fight against Ethnic Studies and Bilingual Education, took the state to the highest court in the land when Napolitano & Goddard refused to combat the huge costs of illegal immigration in our schools.

Horne is a highly ethical, professional and accomplished attorney with the skills, experience, and the ability to serve this state well.

As for Thomas…well as Greg put it…

… this is the only time that I have found a nice guy who is bright, isn’t overtly corrupt,  understands the issues and is generally with me but whose judgment is so bad that I would vote for any other candidate.”

Ask John McCain for YOUR Money back!

This is great! Hat tip to Seeing Red Arizona for this post! (I’m going to repost it in entirety here on Sonoran Alliance) All credit to Seeing Red Arizona!

John McCain has been using money stockpiled from his failed 2008 presidential bid to barrage conservative senatorial candidate J.D. Hayworth with a relentless and malicious ad campaign.

If you donated to the lesser of two evils — the McCain over Obama campaign — you are entitled to request a refund.

Donations that were intended for use in one campaign were not meant by their contributors to be transferred to bashing J.D. Hayworth. Ask for a refund and send it where it makes a difference: to the campaign of J. D. Hayworth.  Time is short.

Early voting for this crucial primary election begins July 29, 2010. The actual election day is August 24.

JPD: DISHONEST BLOGGER/CAMPAIGN HACK REVEALED!

By Steven Robinson

Since I first joined Arizona Tea Party and Greater Phoenix Tea Party networks, six months ago, I have found blogging to be both exhilarating and exhausting.  I’ve enjoyed it, been extremely upset and energized by what others post.  People can be as anonymous or open as they choose, for a variety of reasons.  Most often it is to protect their privacy from those who would use deign to harm them.  However, most everyone who are members those two Tea Party sites, and others, plus anyone following the US Senate race on these sites are familiar with many Jim Deakin supporters; and most certainly are well aware of one JPD.  I became aware of his blogs shortly after JD Hayworth entered the race four months ago, when this person began accusing Hayworth of being nothing like a “Consistent Conservative”.  JPD has called JD a “progressive”, “porker”, “earmark lover” among many other claims.  He has misrepresented votes on bills as something they are not, being a very active member of Jim Deakin’s campaign though probably not in an official capacity.  That is simply to provide cover for this nameless, faceless attack dog for Jim Deakin, who indeed loves this ‘cover of darkness.

I have to thank JPD for these accusations though; it made me dig into JD’s congressional record to research his votes.  What I found out by reviewing American Conservative Union, National Journal and “Ontheissues.org” among others was that NOTHING could be further from the truth!  JD’s record of supporting tax cuts, border enforcement and other key issues were so fundamentally solid that one rating service went so far as to describe JD as a “Hard Core Conservative”!

So, I do understand why JPD chose to misrepresent JD’s record, HE supports Jim Deakin and when JD Hayworth entered the race, whatever support Deakin envisioned would come from the conservative camp dried up like a lonely poppy plant in the scorching Mojave Desert.  This is exactly why Chris Simcox exited the race and supported JD.  Yet Jim Deakin had no intention of leaving the race, and very much needed whatever exposure occurred from the blogosphere.  However, JPD was certainly NOT justified in his misleading, lying and distortion-filled attacks on JD’s record.  He simply lied on behalf of Jim Deakin and that is unacceptable!

What always troubled me about JPD’s attacks, were that he did NOT simply focus on JD Hayworth’s record.  He began attacking JD’s supporters and especially me since my posts early on were disproving JPD’s and other supporters of Jim Deakin to be blatantly false!  Yes, JD voted for “No Child Left Behind” and the “Patriot Act”; and well meaning patriots can disagree without being disagreeable about their constitutionality.  But more than that, JPD and other like-minded supporters began making personal attacks, questioning my integrity, and calling me names. They were also getting control of groups like ICaucus and the Arizona group of Resistnet, then banning me for trumped up reasons.  I was even viciously attacked by a LD3 candidate who strongly supported Jim Deakin for a perceived attempt to derail his campaign!  In that case NOTHING could be further from the truth!  Ultimately due to his false claims I researched his records and found out that he was NOT qualified to run in the LD3 GOP legislative race and he had to withdraw.  I don’t know, but it’s even possible that he could be prosecuted for filing a false affidavit with the State of Arizona.

When I began blogging, I had chosen to be anonymous, using the name “Radical American Patriot”. Shortly after, I decided that I was willing to stand behind my words, and began using my real name and my picture.  I must confess that I was really ‘hacked’ that JPD would make his sneak attacks and run back and hide in his hovel, smirking about how he got someone good!  Now what I say next is really despicable.  JPD was being fed information from either Les White or Kelly Townsend of Greater Phoenix Tea Party website about me and their site!  He recently posted a comment on some website, stating that Suzanne and I had been reinstated.  What? I had NOT received notice to that effect, so HOW did JPD know other than Les or Kelly told him?  Further, somehow they found out information on an unaffiliated Tea Party in Phoenix and ALSO revealed private information about this Tea Party to JPD! In my opinion these two, as well as JPD are thoroughly discredited by their actions.  It truly bothers me when people make vicious personal attacks from their anonymity. So I decided to do some research into JPD, and HERE IS WHAT I FOUND!

JPD is none other than Joseph Peter Danielek, residing in Avondale, Arizona.  He has a son named S***** (I will not reveal his name, he is not involved, unless he’s using an alias as well.). His wife, Carlene recently joined ICAUCUS, under the name “Carlene D”.  I even believe that she has joined in the past two or three days again, under simply “Carlene”. Joseph Peter recently stated that he is 54 years old and that is correct.  To his credit a friend of mine who had spoken with him at the Bullhead City Tea Party, thought he looked much younger.  Unfortunately, she said he looked “unkempt”, like he could be someone who sat in his mother’s basement all day in his underwear, blogging, hacking and whatever computer geeks do all day, besides making money!  Oh well, there’s much more research I could do to find out if he owns his home, works for someone, etc.  My point simply is to inform people about two matters.  JUST WHO is Jim Deakin’s greatest promoter, propagandist and prevaricator; and ALSO you can’t trust the Greater Phoenix Tea Party website with ANY personal information!  Be careful about joining that site, because, IF they will ‘provide’ personal information when such actions suits them.

So, from now one, when you see JPD on any post, you’ll know who he is and why he makes the claims he does.  I suspect that he will disappear into the woodwork, just like Jim Deakin plans to do after this election.  Neither of them will have any future in the Republican Party here in Arizona, maybe with the Green Party, or any party supporting Jon Lovitz!  But neither of them has any future here on any political level.  They will have to ask themselves, was it really worth it all, becoming pariahs in the political community JUST to get John McCain re-elected?

Quayle attack from a Vernon Parker Activist

Did any of you see this blog today?  Self proclaimed “New Media/Blogger, Political Activist, and Sexy Young Senior”, Barbara Espinosa has fired the first shot across the bough in the CD 3 race.

In today’s blog she wisely points out that even given Quayle’s vast campaign war chest, it’s not pulling him away from the pack.

AMERICAN FREEDOM

ARIZONA CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 3

The Arizona Guardian poll just came out that has Vernon Parker within striking
distance of the former Vice President’s son, Ben Quayle. How can striking distance be good news? He doesn’t have a famous last name and the former Vice President isn’t out raising
money or campaigning for him., and the Quayle campaign has spent, over $1 million to elect Dan Quayle’s son to Congress. $1 million and he is barely winning.

This means your hard work is paying off. It also means that you want a true conservative to represent you in congress. if Vernon has the resources to get our message out, we will win on Election Day!

That is why I am contacting you today, I am maxed out, I can’t do anymore, so I’m asking you to help Vernon Parker be the next congressman for Arizona.

At midnight today, a new FEC reporting period will begin. Before the next reporting period comes to a close, I ask that you make a special donation of $250, $150, $100 or any amount you can afford through his campaign Web site – www.parker2010.com Vernon doesn’t have the former Vice President out raising money from AIG, banks that have received bailout funds, special interest groups, unions, Washington, D.C. in crowd, but Vernon does have you. As the poll results below show, it is not going to matter how much Ben Quayle’s family raises and spends for him. This Congressional Seat is one that cannot be bought conservative values and accomplishments will win at the ballot box.

GAME ON….and comments.

Being the pro-McCain contributor on a blog that is administered by a paid Hayworth staffer might seem uncomfortable.  It isn’t.  I have known Shane for a few years and we have a mutual respect for the other’s positions, even if we do not agree.  Shane has made no secret of his work for and endorsement of JD.  Unfortunately, I do not have the same luxury of being able to be so forthcoming; something about a little oath I took that limits me from certain behavior.  Hence, the pen-name Molly Pitcher and the persona that allows me to exercise my First Amendment rights without concern to any violation.

There is a post on this site entitled, “Who’s the Real Lobbyist?  John McCain or JD Hayworth?” submitted by DSW.  The comments are closed.  That is too bad.

I am posting my views and the McCain response.  Because of the limitations I have on public expression, I understand fully how frustrating it can be to have the ability to express your views stifled or limited, even when it is for a personal cause, therefore comments will be open.  When you have the truth on your side, why be afraid ?

  • First item, the Time Magazine is a direct quote from an Obama campaign memo NOT Mark Halperin’s words.  Really? Obama?  The guy who brought us socialism?  Internal campaign memos are now your big gun?  From the campaign that is pushing back on McCain comments daily, I would suggest you reconsider the use of an old OBAMA memo as evidence of anything but attempts to disingenuously influence the American public into electing the worst POTUS we have ever had.  God save America!

I respectfully submit the following questions to Team Hayworth and ask for a reply.

  • Congressman Hayworth claims he registered as a lobbyist to help out an unnamed “hometown friend.” Who is this friend, and when and how was Congressman Hayworth approached to do this lobbying?
  • What is Congressman Hayworth’s current relationship with this “hometown friend?”
  • Exactly what was Congressman Hayworth asked to accomplish for the Wealth Transfer Group?
  • Which of Congressman Hayworth’s former House colleagues, and/or his colleagues’ offices and Committees did he lobby, and what did he ask them to do on his client’s behalf?
  • What if any actions did he take on behalf of Wealth Transfer Group?
  • What was the result of Congressman Hayworth’s lobbying efforts, and where does the issue stand today?
  • Did Wealth Transfer Group pay Hayworth for anything other than his lobbying activities? Was Congressman Hayworth given any other asset or monetary reimbursement for doing this work, including any “success fees”?
  • On his lobbying registration forms, Hayworth identifies himself as president of The Great 48th Group, a company he formed in 2007 — a year before he registered to lobby. Who were The Great 48th Group’s other clients, what did they pay Hayworth to do, what actions did he take on their behalf, and how much did they compensate him for his work?
  • Did Congressman Hayworth do any “consulting work” for this or any other clients that did not trigger the lobbying registration that Hayworth filed?
  • Did Hayworth lobby or consult either for or against any legislation currently pending in Congress? If so, what is his position on that legislation?

Comments are on and we are waiting.

I’ve Always Hated That Grant Woods

In addition to being one of the biggest RINOs and ultra-liberals in the State of Arizona, Grant Woods has always been a cancer in the Arizona Republican party. So it should come as no surprise that I have no problem publicly announcing how much I despise the guy.

Here’s a quote from the latest issue of Newsweek in which Grant Woods suggests driving a stake through the heart of JD Hayworth.

“The idea that a man like John McCain has to deal with a Bozo like J.?D. Hayworth is really offensive,” says former state attorney general Grant Woods. “To have just a caricature of the opportunistic, bombastic politician throwing grenades at him at this stage of his career is really a sad commentary. Someone needs to drive a wooden stake through this guy’s heart.”

Incidentally, I did a word search of the Newsweek article and found no reference to Grant Woods joking about the comment – contrary to how the Phoenix New Times reported on their blog – “Woods joked…”

And yes, maybe political newcomers may see this as one paid consultant beating on another paid consultant but the fact of the matter is that this battle between cultural conservatives and RINOs has been going on a long time here in Arizona and it will always be deep, personal and a battle for the soul of the party.

Sonoran Alliance on Sunday Square-Off!

Sonoran Alliance was featured on this Sunday’s edition of 12 News’ Sunday Square-Off. That’s right, yours truly made my debut appearance on the show in which I had the opportunity to represent conservative Arizona bloggers and activists.

Brahm Resnik hosts this weekly show which is always fast-paced and quick thinking. My two co-guests were Katie Hobbs from the liberal blog, Democratic Diva as well as a Democratic candidate in LD-15, and Casey Newton from the Arizona Republic. The show will actually not show tomorrow morning because it is being pre-empted by another show but you can view it online right here on Sonoran Alliance.

The most commonly abused terminology

Emil FranziBy Emil Franzi, Special to The Explorer

I do not “blog,” although I post on some. I dislike the format because it allows for anonymity, which I don’t hide behind on my own posts. You want to run off at the pen, have the guts to tell me who you really are like I tell you.

Something we who do talk radio learn quickly is to dump the dumb caller as rapidly as possible. Allowing some yahoo to rant is an invitation to station change.

The late Marshall Fritz, well known in libertarian and educational freedom circles, once explained to me a principle from Little League coaching he called “Gresham’s Law of People.” Taken from the economic principle that bad money drives out good, he believed that loud-mouthed jerks drove away good folks and should be purged early and often for the health of any organization.

Newspaper editors have discretion when it comes to letters to the editor, which must be signed hopefully by a real person or even the person who actually wrote them. Some blogs are policed better than others. But the amount of illiterate drivel allowed to pass from left, right and ignorant center is still appalling.

I find many right-wing posters to be embarrassments, not for me personally or my philosophy, but for themselves. Hyper-active newbies always emerge whenever there is any kind of popular awakening, from opposing the Viet Nam War in the ’60s to opposing the Obama leftist agenda now.

California conservatives had a name for the worst of this category in the early ’60s – one-book Birchers. They read “I Saw Poland Betrayed.” Actually, they got up to page 23. It took three days. They found out there were communists and that was enough. They usually didn’t stay active long. This was pre-blog or they would’ve hung around longer.

There are left-wing equivalents, but they’re not my problem. You know who they are. Some of them on both sides are decent folks who just don’t know any better. My job is to help clean up my own. Best way to do that is to clarify the most commonly abused terminology.

• RINO, or Republican in Name Only. A simple measurement separates them from liberal Republicans. RINOS are Republicans like Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup, who are not only liberals but don’t support other Republicans in general elections. Except for the Mecham recall in 1988, Sen. McCain hasn’t publicly dumped on other GOP nominees. He’s not a RINO and is too inconsistent to qualify as a liberal. I think CINO probably fits him best.

Conservatives and particularly conservative Republicans must learn these distinctions. Mayor Guliani is not a conservative, but supports the ticket. Mayor Bloomberg is a Republican out of convenience only and doesn’t. Real RINOS were the GOP officials who walked on Barry Goldwater in 1964. Those like Oregon’s Mark Hatfield who didn’t deserve consideration for playing by the rules.

• Conservative. There’s broad philosophical diversity in the movement which includes some libertarians. There are libertarians who don’t consider themselves conservatives, and conservatives who agree. Before you decide to yell sell-out or RINO, please note the lack of conservative consensus on immigration, fair tax, term limits, the Afghan war, and the foreign policy diversity you get from Ron Paul and Pat Buchanan. Both qualifed as RINOs for having once run on another party’s ticket. Republicans holding party roles talking third party also qualify.

• Socialist. Has specific meanings and, like conservative, is highly diverse. Marxist? Positivist? Fabian? National? Fascist? Hint: It was not socialized medicine when the Roman Army sent early medics along with each Legion. Learn to focus.

There’s more. Hopefully there are some folks I have thoroughly offended. I can only hope those wishing to berate me will use their real names.

AZGOP officials “unconcerned” with major accounting irregularities

For the third time in just a week, evidence of major accounting irregularities has surfaced in the Arizona Republican Party’s recent campaign finance reports.  The Arizona Guardian today reports that the Party owed $70,000 to the Tempe, Arizona-based political consulting firm Lincoln Strategy Group.  This unreported debt is in addition to the $50,000 that the Party is said to have owed to Strategic Fundraising and it comes on the heels of news that $50,000 from the Republican National Committee was not included in its required monthly filings to the Federal Election Commission.

An analysis of internal documents and the “AZ Republican Party” most recent post-general election report to the Arizona Secretary of State’s office revealed this glaring - and possibly illegal – omission.  While the exact amount still due to the firm has not been disclosed by either AZGOP officials or Lincoln Strategy, according to the Guardian, what is clear is that a troubling pattern of misreporting has emerged in Arizona Republican Party finances.

Randy Pullen needs to stand-up and be accountable to to the grassroots Republicans that elected him to the leadership.  He should have immediately done so when the scandal broke out last week.  For an accountant to remain this “unconcerned” with such gross financial irregularities is highly unprofessional: for the leader of Republicans in Arizona (and RNC Treasurer) to do so is simply unacceptable.

Man-Made Disaster Season

Man Made Disaster Season

Hope for the New Year…or…Is the GOP in AZ Hopeless?

The posts of Sonoran Alliance are often used to put front and center a personal viewpoint on a partisan issue.  Such is the art of the “blog”.  While the need for an outlet of frustration and expression of personal interests can be understood, I am of the belief that such can also be used by people who twist the story and feel hiding behind a blind name gives them absolution to do and say whatever they please, in hopes more people will pile on and prove them right.  Now their perversion of the truth has become reality.  Mission accomplished!

In my years of following local, state, and national politics, I’ve come to know such behavior is a sure sign of weakness and fear from those who understand theirs is a house built on sand.  Those who go negative and stay there never win in the long run.  They may win a race here and there, a local chairmanship or some other position.  They never will be in control or rise to real leadership, for they have no substance only their passion for disruption.

People tire of anger; they tire of always keeping score and running up the points for the other team so to be sure of their position of victim.  They tire of the arrogance of those local leaders who would keep them submissive so as to have at their beck and call an army of mobile minions to wage battle on the next person/issue that dared to cross the always moving line of their own design.  No progress is ever made but to keep the little man in power as he rails against the big man.

If I had my wish, adults would act like adults, people of faith would actually stop using it as a wall to hide their lies and purposeful acts of deceit, and those who call on conservatives to be conservatives, the loud and often hate-filled speechifying flame-throwers, would pull the log out of their own eye before looking for the splinter in the eye of another.

If I had my wish… conservatives would understand our current enemy is not the left but the persistent push from within for division and come to the realization that a house divided cannot stand and those who would seek to form the division will be the architects of our defeat.

Should you need a reminder of what true leadership is…read this: http://reagan2020.us/speeches/nomination_acceptance_1980.asp

Thoughts on an Earlier Post

I watched the comment fly all day on the Mecum post (below) and have to admit that I agree with a lot of what our readers have said on both sides. But allow me to clarify even more.

The word “lynch mob” came up several times and I would have to agree with those who brought it up that we need to be careful not to become one.

We know nothing about the relationship betweet Mr. Mecum and the woman mentioned in the complaint. It could have been an acquaintance or even romantic situation but that is none of our business. If Brett was infatuated to the point of pursuing her or in today’s politically correct language “stalking” her, she obviously didn’t harbor the same feelings and felt compelled to file a complaint with the authorities.

I am surprised that he felt that Voter Vault was the most appropriate way to find out how to get in contact with her. Why not use Facebook, the phonebook or the Maricopa County Assessor’s website which contains the names and addresses of individual homeowners? Unless she was a renter, he could have stayed within the boundaries of the law by accessing another source of data. However Commenter #29 has a point if that is what the Voter Vault agreement actually states. As a precinct committeeman, I’ve had to sign a non-disclosure usage agreement to access voter data. And it’s hard to argue with the fact that the law states that it is a class 6 felony. Of anyone who should know the terms and conditions of using  Voter Vault and it’s proper usage, you would expect it to be a party official. Right?

Let’s face it, incidents like this whether fabricated, conspired or true, are a serious public relations problem for the Arizona Republican Party. I would presume that the State Executve Committee would investigate and make a decision whether there are personnel issues it needs to address and whether it needs to take actions to avoid further public relations or even liability issues. Any inquiry by the EC should be thorough and deliberative and avoid embracing a lynch mob mentality.

I don’t know if Brett has “enemies,” as he claims, who want to destroy his career. We know very little about the woman Brett was pursuing. Could she have been a Democrat trying to set him up? Thus far, she hasn’t stepped forward to verify her story. That leaves it up to MCSO to make a determination.

To the broader question. This is where I would really love our reader’s feedback. Should incidents like this ever be posted on Sonoran Alliance? I decided to allow the post to stand because it was not merely a disagreement over policy matters. In the past we have covered stories about Republicans who have been caught doing illegal or unethical activities. Commenter #9 alluded to Mark Sanford, Larry Craig and Mark Foley – all Republicans who did something that got them into trouble and hurt the party (and probably cost elections from a collateral damage standpoint).

Would our readers prefer NOT to see posts that reveal Republicans who break the law or act unethical? Is it better if we sweep it under the carpet, look the other way or just remain silent? Does our silence equate to condoning these acts and ultimately causing more damage? Democrats are always quick to remind us about the log in our own eyes whenever we point out the splinter in theirs. Has anyone in our party ever thought about getting our own house in order or, do we always want to respond with, “well, they do it too?”

Back to the question. Are posts like the Mecum post from the “genre” of the circular firing squad or do they really have a value in the long-run? Do they hurt us more than help us and do they restore credibility to our principles and agenda? I always believed that we were the party of reason, consistency and moral absolutes. If we can’t strive for those ideals then what’s the point of trying to make our lives and country a better place?

Now it’s your turn…

Comments On

With rare exception do I turn the comments off on a post. Usually to prevent someone from taking a shot at an elected official’s family member or when one group of sophomoric Republicans take shots at another group of sophomoric Republicans. The general rule here on Sonoran Alliance is if you post something, you better be willing to defend your post. With that said, I’m going to open this post up to comments…

Democrat Bloggers Trying To Encourage GOP Primary?

It what is best described as a case of wishful thinking, both Tedski over at Rum, Romanism and Rebellion, and David Safier at My Gay Arizona (CAUTION:  Lots of gay cruise ads on this page) are playing up the notion that State Representative Vic Williams is gearing up for a primary challenge to State Senator Al Melvin down in LD26.  Gila Courier has already contacted Williams and he has dismissed the rumor as pure nonsense, but should the GOP be encouraged that the hard left in Arizona is trying to encourage such an event?  We think so.

Melvin ran in 2006 and won the primary, besting Sen. Toni Hellon, but then he lost by several hundred votes in the general election.  In 2008 he ran again, and had to first beat Rep. Pete Hershberger in another rough primary, before winning and recapturing the seat for the GOP in the general election.  Unable to find another candidate, the Democrats are again running Cheryl “Tax the Golf Carts” Cage against Melvin, but given that she lost to him in a good year for Democrats after Melvin endured back-to-back bruising primaries, do the Democrats really expect to win the race in 2010′s political environment, especially with Melvin enjoying a more unified GOP supporting his effort?  Not likely.

Thus the rumor mongering and wishful thinking from Tedski and Safier.  From what we hear, LD26 Democrats need to be far more worried about protecting Rep. Nancy Young Wright than wasting their time and money on Cage.  Republicans already have a strong challenger in that race, who is getting good reviews from everyone in the local GOP.

Catching Up!

As you can read below, we are catching up on the press releases we received today. We apologize for the delay to the candidates and our readers.
