Senator Russell Pearce, B.A.N. president, today announced that two major Arizona businesses had suspended advertising with the pro-illegal immigration Phoenix New Times / Village Voice Media companies. HARKINS THEATERS andBUDDY STUBBS HARLEY DAVIDSON have suspended advertising with the New Times, according to representatives of both companies yesterday, April 9th.

On March 28th, B.A.N. called for a boycott of advertisers who refuse to suspend business with the pro-amnesty New Times / Village Voice Media. Their ad-dollars fund the New Times’ attacks on law enforcement, elected officials and conservative individuals and organizations in Arizona and across the nation. In recent weeks, the New Times / Village Voice has come under intense scrutiny for alleged ties to prostitution advertising and links to child sex trafficking on its advertising pages.

RUSSELL PEARCE: Thank you to Harkins Theaters, Buddy Stubbs Harley Davidson for boycotting Phoenix New Times

Written by Sean McCaffrey on April 10, 2012, 04:30 PM

Ban Amnesty Now (B.A.N.), with more than 400,000 members/supporters in Arizona, and more than 800,000 across America, has announced two major Phoenix-area businesses have suspended advertising with the Phoenix New Times / Village Voice Media.

Harkins Theaters and Buddy Stubbs Harley Davidson both informed Ban Amnesty Now yesterday they were suspending all future advertising with the Phoenix New Times / Village Voice Media. The advertising suspensions came in response to recent reports of New Times / Village Voice Media ties to prostitution and sex trafficking, including that of children, according to the Associated Press.

Ban Amnesty Now has called for all Arizona businesses, including retailers like Buddy Stubbs Harley Davidson, entertainment venues like Harkins Theaters, restaurants and other businesses, to stop advertising with the New Times / Village Voice publications. The revenues from their advertisements, along with those tied to prostitution and other sordid crimes, are funding the New Times’ vicious attacks against Arizona law enforcement, elected officials, and conservative individuals and organizations.

“We have suspended all advertising with the New Times,” Bryan Laurel, marketing director of Harkins Theaters, told B.A.N.

“We won’t be advertising with New Times anymore until this is all resolved,” wrote Phillip McKee, in a communication to Ban Amnesty Now.

Pearce said he hoped the leadership showed by Dan Harkins and Buddy Stubbs would encourage other businesses to follow suit.

“Harkins Theaters and Buddy Stubbs Harley Davidson are truly Arizona-friendly, truly children-friendly, and join the ranks of businesses with the ethics and responsibility not to advertise with the New Times,” said Pearce. “No respectable business should be sharing ad-space alongside pedophiles and prostitutes, and until the New Times stops their deviant practices, we’ll continue to ask businesses to stop advertising on their pages.”

With B.A.N. in this growing coalition of conservative and patriotic organizations supporting the boycott of Phoenix New Times advertisers is the RidersUSA motorcycle club, which also offered this statement:

“RidersUSA is very happy to hear that Buddy Stubbs has joined us on this cause. We believe not only does the New Times promote hideous, ‘unspeakables’ against children, but they also promote hate and encourage racism,” Valerie Roller, spokesperson for RidersUSA. “We encourage all members of the Biker Community to support Senator Pearce and this boycott and anyone still on the list needs to step up and remove their advertising.”

Pearce called upon remaining New Times advertisers to stop funding the media giant’s hate campaigns against law enforcement, elected officials, and conservative individuals and organizations. “We are tracking advertisers and if you won’t willingly pull your ads, we will ask our members to speak with their wallets – and to stop patronizing your businesses until you find other places to advertise. That is the only way we, together, can change the way the New Times does business.”

According to the Associated Press, 50 arrests in 22 states have already taken place involving child sex trafficking cases originating on the pages of the New Times / Village Voice publications. Despite repeated pleas from law enforcement and elected officials, the company refuses to pull-down these ads which generate an estimated $22 MILLION annually in revenue.

“I am so proud of Dan Harkins and Buddy Stubbs for being leaders in Arizona’s business community and for doing what’s right for Arizona families, children, and our state,” said Pearce.

“The pro-amnesty New Times is 100% dependent on ad-revenue,” said Sean McCaffrey, B.A.N. founder. “Without ad dollars spent by local businesses, the New Times could not afford to print their vicious, heinous attacks against law enforcement, elected officials and conservative leaders who dare to oppose illegal immigration, dare to oppose amnesty for illegal aliens, dare to enforce the law, and dare to put American workers first.”

In a recent online survey, 98.5% of supporter respondents said they would actively support a boycott of New Times advertisers. In response to this clear mandate, Ban Amnesty Now will publish a list of prominent New Times advertisers (CLICK HERE FOR THE LIST).

“I am confident responsible conservatives will take this buy-cott to heart, and stop spending their hard-earned dollars with businesses and restaurants that support the illegal alien agenda,” said Sen. Russell Pearce, president of B.A.N. “There are plenty of car dealers, retailers and great Arizona restaurants that don’t advertise in the New Times that will be happy to have our business.”

In addition, B.A.N. will also make available a “You Lost My Business Coupon” which B.A.N. supporters may print and give to “Buy-Cotted” establishments (CLICK HERE FOR THE COUPON).

With more than 800,000 active members and supporters nationwide, over half of whom reside in Arizona, our hope is that B.A.N. patriots will choose to spend their money with retailers and restaurants that do not fund hyper-partisan, pro-amnesty, pro-illegal immigration media establishments dedicated to attacking public servants like Sheriff Joe Arpaio and other leading conservatives.

Please also click here to follow B.A.N. and this “Buy-Cott” on Facebook.

Seminar on Child Sex Trafficking

Join Bill Montgomery, Maricopa D.A. and Starbright Foundation Directors Lori Regnier and
Michael Chalberg, in a discussion of what legislators and law enforcement is doing to crack
down on child sex trafficking; and what you as a community can do in the prevention, intercession
and recovery for these young victims of these crimes who cannot speak for themselves.

Bill Montgomery was elected Maricopa County Attorney in 2010 on a pledge to fight crime,
honor victims’ rights, and protect and strengthen our community. Recognizing that violent
child sexual predators cannot be rehabilitated, Bill has been an outspoken advocate for life
sentences for these offenders. He also supports GPS monitoring for other convicted child
molesters, and Internet sting operations to capture child predators before they get the chance
to victimize our children. His goal is to let would-be child predators know they will find no
safe haven in Arizona.

Lori Regnier is a volunteer for Shepherds Care Ministries where she helps survivors of
sexual abuse. Lori has 2 years of experience in security/protection. Also, as the President of
Child Enrichment Programs, Inc., Lori strived to help underprivileged youth in our valley
and their families in need. She has expanded her interest in the wellbeing of children to the
Starbright Foundation where she pledges to be a positive role model and will assist in
rescuing endangered children from abusive situations. Recently in 2011, Lori was chosen as
one of Arizona’s “Top 30 Women of Courage” for making a positive change in the lives of
children and families in Arizona.

Michael E. Chalberg is pastor and cofounder of Shepherds Care Ministries and has served in
Christian ministries for the last 30 years. These last 17 years in Pastoral Counseling have
revealed the need for a more focused ministry to help the children trapped in ongoing sexual
abuse through human trafficking across our nation. He founded Starbright Foundation with
fellow volunteers to fight against this rising problem. He hopes to increase public awareness
of child sexual abuse and trafficking through education to generate community involvement
in the prevention of this growing social problem.

Online Public Notice Bill, HB 2403, which would have saved taxpayer money for states and municipalities, voted down in Arizona House Committee

ARIZONA- On-line Public Notice Bill HB 2403 Which Would Save State & Towns $, Voted down in Committee

In Arizona, Medicaid Cut. Newspapers Continue to Be Subsidized

In Arizona, where state money is so tight that the state’s Medicaid program needed to be cut, a shortsighted committee voted down an opportunity to save tax dollars used to subsidize newspapers.

Arizona’s House Committee on Technology and Infrastructure voted 5-2 today to continue to require the arcane practice of publishing legal notices in newspapers. As we reported two weeks ago, the bill (HB2403) would allow the local governments to publish public notices in a newspaper or post notices anywhere on a “worldwide public network of interconnected computers.” An estimated 20 newspaper representatives appeared at the hearing.

Representatives Dial, Gonzales, Proud, Wheeler, Seel voted no. Only Representatives Stevens and Pierce voted for it.

Separately, the Arizona budget was so tight this year that it included a provision that would cut off an estimated 100,000 poor childless adults from Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System coverage this year.

To read how other states are addressing this issue, click here.

Republicans Jeff Dial, Terri Proud and Carl Seel voted AGAINST the bill.

The following testimony is by Lynne LaMaster, Editor of eNewsAZ regarding the shenanigans being played out by the Arizona Newspaper Association and its allies in opposition to HB 2403. (Sonoran Alliance supports this legislation.)

This entire experience has been very enlightening to me. I have learned far more than I ever imagined.

One of the most fascinating items I learned, is that according to the Newspaper organizations, this really isn’t about the money. It’s about their duty as “watchdogs” to protect the public interest by publishing Public Notices in their respective newspapers.

Therefore, if this measure doesn’t pass, may I suggest that an alternate piece of legislation be considered. This would be:

A law that would require newspapers to publish public notices in the same font and using the same white space as is on their home page featured story, at no additional charge beyond current prices to either the submitter or the subscriber.

A law that would require them to offer translations into Spanish or other common languages of the community when appropriate, publishing in both English and the other language at no additional charge beyond the current prices.

A law that would require better formatting, links that are easily pulled out of the content maps and photos where appropriate at no additional charge beyond the current prices.

A law that require them to publish public notices and take them to every home in the community whether or not the resident subscribes to the paper at no additional charge beyond the current prices.

A law that would require their database to be indexed and searchable by Google and the other search engines, completely open to the public, and advertised via Google Ad Words and other online measures, and this cost should not be passed on to member organizations, subscribers or submitters.

I’d be willing to bet that if you were to consider a law such as the one I just outlined, you’d find the newspapers even more vociferously and vehemently opposed to that law than the one you’re considering here right now. Because we all know that it IS about the money and protecting their monopoly and power.

Of course, if you were to allow online publications to publish public notices, we could do all these things automatically. Because we are more than a simply a newspaper online. We know the Internet and its capabilities and we know how to use it properly, efficiently and effectively.

Lynne LaMaster
Editor, eNewsAZ.com

UPDATE on HB 2403 Committee Vote Outcome.

State Representatives Jeff Dial, Terri Proud and Carl Seel were the only Republicans who voted against this bill.

Committee Testimony on HB 2403: Online Public Notices is Thursday morning

Editor’s note: Sonoran Alliance and several other Arizona political news blogs (ACOM – Arizona Coalition of Online Media) strongly support this bill and will be at the hearing Thursday morning. Help stop the print newspapers’ monopoly over public notices.

by Lynne LaMaster, eNewsAZ

Right now, newspapers have a monopoly on the publication of Public Notices. You know, those ads you see in super-tiny print next to the want ads in the local paper?

Representative David Stevens, however, has a different idea. Let’s allow Public Notices to be published online or in printed newspapers. If his bill passes, competition for Public Notices will go up, prices should go down. Taxpayers will benefit as their governmental agencies won’t have to pay nearly as much in fees (estimated to be over $1.8 million in Arizona alone).

It will also make public notices more available world wide, allow for better, more readable formatting, better access for those with disabilities, and more information to be shared, such as links to maps, bid specifications, agendas and more.

Newspapers aren’t supporting this because they believe they are the watchdog over Public Notices. They also question the ability for online entities to offer verification, and serve those who don’t get the Internet.

See http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/opinion/article_605be59a-4e92-11e1-a963-0019bb2963f4.html

There is a hearing Thursday morning at 9am in front of the committee, and they are going to vote on it. There is also a stakeholder’s meeting Wednesday at 4pm.

Here are the committee members:

David Stevens (R) – bill sponsor

Sally Ann Gonzales (D)

Justin Pierce (R)

Carl Seel (R)

Bruce Wheeler (D)

Terri Proud (R)

Jeff Dial (R)

Please email or call them and let them know you support this bill. http://www.azleg.gov/MemberRoster.asp

As many political campaigns heat up, Sonoran Alliance is offering advertising to the many campaigns in the form of banner advertising and social media promotion.

Campaigns can continue to send press releases for publication which will be posted as time allows but we will also be glad to post event invitations and fundraising messages for a reasonable rate. That means if a campaign has a unique link that will raise money or collect voter or donor information, we will offer space on Sonoran Alliance but it will cost you.

Sonoran Alliance has been a labor of love for many years and we have put more hours into this project than we can count. It’s time for the site to finally pay for itself and compensate those who have given their time and energies to its development and success.

If you are interested in getting your message out, please email us at sonoranalliance [at] gmail.com to get started.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 2nd, 2012

Kirk Adams Campaign Releases New Video Featuring Sen. Jon Kyl

East Valley, AZ – Honorary Campaign Chairman, Senator Jon Kyl recently held an event for Kirk Adams and it was recorded into a web video, which the Kirk Adams campaign released today.

Click here to view the embedded video.

“Some folks go back to Washington, and they change,” Kyl said, “We need folks like Kirk in Washington; these are really difficult times as you know and Kirk has the experience, he’s got common sense, he’s practical but he’s idealistic in a conservative way.”

Kirk Adams shook up Arizona’s state Capitol, and the conservative reformer will do the same in Congress.

A rising star in the Republican Party, Adams joined the state House in 2006 and was soon frustrated by the unwillingness and inability of Republicans in the Legislature to stand up for conservative principals. He launched a long-shot campaign to oust the veteran Speaker of the House and shocked the Republican establishment when he won Speakership at only 35 years of age.

Adams put the House back on a fiscally responsible track. Tackling some of the most challenging issues in Arizona history, Adams demonstrated true political courage and aggressively pushed his conservative reform agenda.

A native Arizonan and small business owner, Adams lives in Mesa with his wife JaNae and their six children.
