Bill Montgomery Launches Exploratory Committee

Sonoran Alliance has learned that attorney Bill Montgomery has just launched an exploratory committee to seek the office of Maricopa County Attorney. This of course is under the assumption that current County Attorney Andrew Thomas will seek the office of Arizona Attorney General.

Because Andrew Thomas was recently re-elected as Maricopa County Attorney in 2008 and that office is a four-year term, Thomas would step down upon the formation of a full-blown committee. This would create a vacancy which the current Board of Supervisors would need to appoint a replacement. Regardless, a special election would be required to elect Thomas’ successor.

Bill Montgomery is a very credible and formidible candidate having run for statewide Attorney General in 2006. With his announcement, any other Republicans should think seriously about pursing the same office. Any Democrats should also be worried.

MAYBE HE SHOULD HIRE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO BE IN HIS COMMERCIAL ABOUT IMMIGRATION AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JUST BECAUSE HE HAS AN R NEXT TO HIS NAME, DOESN’T MEAN WE’LL SUPPORT AN OPEN BORDERS, ILLEGAL HIRING RINO!!!!!!!!!!

Arpaio to review complaint that AG campaign hired illegals

“PHOENIX – Maricopa County’s sheriff and county attorney will review a complaint that the campaign of Republican attorney general candidate Bill Montgomery used illegal immigrants while filming a television ad.”

    HYPOCRIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. CLOSETHEBORDER,

    Chill out dude!

I was there when the commercial was filmed.

I can tell you that Bill Montgomery did NOT hire illegal aliens. I would testify in court to that fact.

    That settles that.

Montgomery is certainly qualified and is capable. I would say he is the man to beat. Hopefully, he has learned from the last campaign and will adjust his tactics and methods accordingly. If he does, he can win.

  5. He doesn’t have to run against Goddard. The Dems have no one of similar stature to put up against him. He won’t have to adjust his tactics at all.

Good luck Bill, I’m rooting for ya (and happy to see Thomas go).

  6. I am more concerned about his treacherous, dishonorable betrayal of a friend during his campaign for AG. The motto of West Point is DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY.

Somehow he must have been absent when the section on HONOR was being taught. His actions in that campaign make me wonder if Joe could count on his support if BM were the county attorney.

  7. Open borders advocate?

See how the rumors start and just keep going?

    What a bunch of BS!….DSW is correct…..

I have stood watch on the ‘border’ with Bill.

Now if he is, as CLOSETHEBORDER says, an open borders guy, all of my observations and conversations with Bill sure had me fooled…..and I seriously doubt that….

I suggest that CLOSETHEBORDER sit down with Bill and learn first-hand what a fantastic County Atty he would make…..IF that opportunity should come to pass…..

  8. The biggest problem with Montgomery is his reputation as a light weight who is not exactly a trial star. His conservative credentials are great his legal credentials are not impressive.

I usually enjoy reading posts on Sonoran Alliance and keeping up with the “inside baseball” of conservative politics. These criticisms, though, are completely off base. Close the Border seems more like a “closet . . .Open Border” person. I remember seeing Montgomery all over the place during his campaign and every single time he talked about enforcing immigration laws and the crime impact by not doing that. I remember him stating people volunteering with minutemen were patriots. I also know him to be a very honorable man and anyone who earned a Bronze Star during Desert Storm is honorable in my book.

  10. Hey CLOSETHEBORDER you shouldn’t shout … especially when you are spouting jibberish. Get a life, get a job and get your facts right. MaricopaGOP how about specifics backed by facts, if you have any, rather than vague allegations. I can assure you Bill Montgomery was wide awake in all his classes. I doubt you can say the same. LarryB where do get “his reputation as a light weight?” There are hundreds of repeat offenders, auto theives and drunk drivers who would tell you there is nothing “light weight” about Bill Montgomery. Fact check!

  11. PLD if exclamation points made it so than you would win the fight. The facts are that among people who are in the trenches Bill Montgomery is not considered a serious trial lawyer. A better argument that you could make is that trial experience is not that important to the job. I know Bill consider him a good guy and have nothing against him personally. I think he honest but always more the politician than the practioner.

  12. When was the last time current AG Goddard was actually in court? Wasn’t he the mayor of Phoenix in the 80’s?

  13. CLOSETHEBORDER says

DSW: THEN YOU WOULD BE LYING. THERE IS SWORN TESTIMONY BY A PARK RANGER,AND A REPUBLICAN VOTER WHO ALSO SPOKE TO THE ILLEGALS. THEN THERE IS THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS THEMSELVES WHO ARE ON TAPE SAYING THEY WERE HIRED BY THE COMPANY AND THEY TOLD THEM THAT THEY HAD NO PAPERS. I WORKED THAT CASE AND WE ALL KNOW THE TRUTH HERE. THOSE ILLEGALS WERE HIRED FOR $90 A DAY TO BE IN THE COMMERCIAL.

  14. DSW,

Bill is a nice guy and some of the attempts to trash him above go a little overboard. But “With his announcement, any other Republicans should think seriously about pursuing the same office.”? You’ve got to be kidding me. Bill ran for public office less than five years out of law school, ran a very poor campaign and lost by 37 points. He has been invisible since that time. He has no ability to self fund, in a race that is not subject to Clean Elections. There are probably ten Republican candidates that would beat him easily. You are letting your affection for Bill cloud your judgment.

  15. Candidates never stand on their own. They stand on the help of the party, their powerful friends, etc. Strip candidates of that and we’d have a much different government. If Montgomery gets the support he needs, or may already have, he’ll be the frontrunner.

  16. Bill has not been invisible to the grassroots workers and party faithful. While he has not had a pubic platform to shout his name all over the place or used tax-payer dollars to self-promote, he has been busy.

He is not a divisive figure within the party, does not have a one-sided following, and has shown to be level headed and sure. He will not need public dollars to run, he will be supported by strong conservatives who understand it takes money to win.

  17. Lyle Tuttle,

He did not stand watch prior to his candidacy for AG, and I have been told that he has not stood watch since his campaign. Seems like his commitment was somewhat tied to a personal benefit.

He had the support of the McCain/Sproul machine and got 37%. Once a McCainiac . . .

  18. CLOSETHEBORDER,

I was there the ENTIRE day from the moment they were hired to the moment the last one was dropped off at his home in West Mesa. At no time did anyone ask them (6 of them) if they had papers. I believe that the testimony provided verges on perjury.

Even if they were illegally in the country and could be proven, it sure makes an excellent argument how flawed the system is.

  19. East Valley PC says

I think Closet Border has “outed” himself. He must be a liberal trolling conservative blogs to trash conservatives. Why do I say that:
    1) He can’t type with the Caps Lock off
    2) He is repeating Democrat campaign points to attack a fellow Republican (if he is a Republican) and claims to have evidence no one has ever seen. Don’t you think that video would have been shown during the campaign when it would have meant something instead of hiding in your closet? Do you also have an 8 x 10 glossy of the shooter from the grassy knoll?

  20. LarryB…I AM “in the trenches” every day and have worked with Bill. I know what kind of a prosecutor he is and what kind of a County Attorney he would make. DCAs, especially in the specialties Bill has worked, do very few actual trials. Much of the heavy weight work is done in pretrial hearings and the severity of plea offers. In those areas especially Bill is tough, very tough, and has taught other DCAs how to maximize pleas in favor of the State. That sure doesn’t sound like a “light weight” to me or his co-workers.

  21. I am disappointed. No response from Billy trying to establish his bonafides on the Minuteman/Border issue.

Simcox stated at the time that the first contact that he ever had in person, on the phone, or at a meeting was Billy asking Simcox for an endorsement.

That and the fact that the McCain/Shadegg minions ran his campaign, speak volumes as to his commitment to the issue.

  22. Go Bill. New blood needed to reform relationships with County and Courts
