Sheriff Arpaio and John Huppenthal to Hold Education Town Hall in Scottsdale

Press Release

Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Senator John Huppenthal, Chairman of the Senate Education Committee and Candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction, will be hosting an Education Town Hall on July 22 at 6:30 pm at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library Auditorium.

Education is one of the most critical issues facing our state:

  • How do we reduce the school drop-out rate?  How do we prevent juvenile delinquency?  What effect will reducing the drop-out rate have on juvenile crime?
  • What every parent should know about drugs and substance abuse in our schools.
  • How do we ensure the continued use of English immersion in our schools?
  • How can we ground our students with respect for the Constitution and our Founding Fathers and imbue them with a proper sense of our country’s history?
  • Why are only half of our students reading by the end of the 4th grade; how do we improve literacy and reading proficiency? What are the effects of illiteracy on crime?
  • Can Arizona compete on a national or world stage in math and science?

Discussion will focus on how to improve education in Arizona, the challenges we face, our education standing relative to other states and related issues. Come join a lively discussion!

    This sounds great!

I would like to suggest holding a town hall at an hour that parents (mothers) can attend with their children. I can’t imagine a better exercise in civic responsibility–especially for kids.

All candidates could benefit by reaching out to whole families and inspiring an entire household to vote. Many of us are not 9-5 ers. If you want name recognition in the home, just engage a child at a town hall. They’ll be reciting your name over and over again. No one within ears reach will stop hearing about you.
