A “Generated” Crisis

Do we have a “game changer” in the works? You judge.

Here is the full text of Joe Biden’s remarks at the Sunday Seattle fundraiser.

So there’s gonna be a lot of tough decisions Barack’s gonna have to make. A lot of very tough decisions including those on foreign policy. And here’s the point I want to make: Mark my words, mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world’s lookin’. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old President of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re going to have an international crisis – a generated crisis – to test the mettle of this guy. If he’s gonna have to make some really tough – I don’t know what the decisions gonna be – but I promise you it will occur. As a student of history it has been served on seven Presidents. I guarantee you it’s gonna happen. I can give you at lease four or five scenarios where it might originate.

Comments

  1. Short answer: No.

Long answer: No, thanks General Powell.

  2. Game-changer…ha! You guys really are delusional. I know you really do believe in all your principles and everything, but does it ever occur to you that the inevitable result of your purity tests is that you drive people away from your party, which means fewer votes at election time?

  3. Well maybe not a game changer like Howard Dean’s delusional scream.

It’s great to see that Barack Obama is surrounding himself with the best and brightest – especially when it comes to foreign policy.

These statements ought to imbue widespread confidence throughout the American people.

I’m sure that the world community is thrilled about an Obama Administration which will woo them back to liking us again as a peace-lovin’ member of the community of nations.

What is so strange about this is that Biden appears to insinuate that he or “they” know that something is coming but are unwilling to expound.

Why in the world would a Vice-Presidential candidate make such outlandish comments? What was he thinking and what were his motives to say such things?

  4. 1. It’s Biden – the man’s mouth is constantantly running without his brain engaged (I’ve never been pro-Biden if you think this is a change in belief from me).

    2. What president hasn’t been challenged when he first got into office by a foreign agency?

Reagan, the Soviets and the crackdown on Solidarity in Poland. Bush I, the beginnings of the Serb-Croat war and the slaughter of Georgians by Soviet forces prior to the collapse of communism. Clinton, first WTC attack and the Haitian military coup. Bush II, 9/11.

How would a foreign agency challenging Obama different from any other president? What you think anyone’s going to go run and hide because if Angry Johnny gets elected?

    Klute,

In a word..yes. Remind me professor, what happened to the American hostages in Iran once Reagan was elected ? What changed ?
Carter was impotent. Reagan meant business.

  6. Really, nightcrawler?

I guess those 200+ Marines in Beirut didn’t die in that barracks bombing, and we didn’t pull out of Lebanon right after. Leon Klinghoffer died of the norovirus outbreak on the Achille Lauro and not from a shot in the back of the head by Abu Nidal. I guess that Marine wasn’t beaten to death with the armrest of a TWA 727 and Lt. Colonel William Higgins wasn’t hanged by Hezbollah.

Miltant Islam spat in Reagan’s face, and all the Gipper could say was “Well, there you go again”. Khaddafi, Khoemeni, Assad, Arafat, Saddam… All still sittin’ pretty when Reagan shuffled off. That’ll teach ’em. The only dictators that were removed during the 80s were scum like Pinochet, Marcos, Botha, and Duvalier – all ousted by the left.

That’s the great thing about being a child of the 80s – attention spans not yet destroyed by TV, but they were on enough to remember everything.

As if you’re going to try to imply that the release of the hostages was some sort of fear of Reagan and not the Ayatollah’s desire to get one last jab in at Carter, you’ve watching far too much Hannity and Colmes.

Although, I suppose Desert One was Carter’s fault. He did not fund enough research to give the US Military Imhotep’s power over the sands.

    Klute,

You throw up a lot of smoke and around a little steak with trite examples of one here and one there. Each of which pale in comparison to the news coverage of Iran hostage situation which was used to embarass the US for 444 days. Let me address your “steak”: Beruit.

Reagan had a peace plan with the Arabs (including King Hussein of Jordan) worked out in Sept of 1982. He did not get the blessing of Israel on this plan and subsequently, Gen. Sharon killed 800 civilians including women and children in the following weeks of the plan announcement.

It was the bombing of the U.S. Marines barracks in Beirut in October 1983, that was the final straw for the Reagan peace initiative. By March of 1984, Reagan pulled the United States out of the UN multinational force that he had helped create.

He wasn’t perfect, but he did react.

  8. Seems to me like the Great Communicator raised a big ol’ white flag and got the hell out of Dodge.

And I’m fascinated that the murders of Leon Klinghoffer, Robert Stethem, and Lt. Colonel Higgins come across as “trite” or Reagan’s impotence in Beirut (including the continued kidnapping of Americans) or stopping the violence against USA interests in the Mediterranean during the 80s is good, tough leadership.

Yeah, he “reacted”. And I suppose if a knee-jerk KILL KILL KILL reaction to the world is what you’re looking for, then McCain’s (and Reagan’s) your man. But bombing Libya didn’t prevent a rain of aluminum and human bodies from falling over Lockerbie. Funding the mujahadeen didn’t stop 9/11. Arming the Druze didn’t stop Syria.

I’m sorry, I want a president who’s thinks with more than just the stimulus-response part of the brain.

And as for Israel – I thought turning Israel loose was totally bitchin’ and the resolution to all our problems!

  9. I have to agree with you on the last sentence Klute but I do believe we need to back them up.

Maybe “W” recognized the aforementioned response by RWR or the lack therof and incorporated his perception of such weaknesses into his Doctrine?

I’ve always thought that if one American was in trouble abroad, it was our moral obligation to rescue them.

  10. Romo Lampkin says

“I’ve always thought that if one American was in trouble abroad, it was our moral obligation to rescue them.”

Wait–don’t we want to check to see if it’s a pro-American American or an anti-American American first?

  11. SEEMS LIKE MOST OF YOU ALL ARE MISSING THE POINT………

JOE BIDEN SAYS OBAMA WILL BE TESTED BECAUSE OF HIS YOUTH & IN EXPERIENCE AS WELL THE PERCEPTION THAT HE MAY FLINCH IN A CRISIS.

BIDEN ESSENTIALLY SAYS SAME HERE AND THAT IS THE PROBLEM.

IS McCAIN THE SECOND COMING OF REAGAN? PERHAPS .

IS OBAMA THE NEW JFK? TO PARAPHRASE A WELL USED PHRASE…… I REMEMBER JFK . JFK WAS MY BOYHOOD HERO. YOU MR OBAMA ARE NO JFK.

OH AND BY THE WAY DID I MENTION THAT FROM KHADDAFI IN LIBYA TO YOUSIF IN PALESTINE ( HE’S ACTUALLY LIVING IN EXILE IN SYRIA BECAUSE HE’S SUCH A BAD DUDE !! ) THERE ARE MUSLIM ROGUE LEADERS WOULD ARE ANXIOUS FOR AN OBAMA / BIDEN PRESIDENCY.

    WONDER WHY?

  12. DSW,

I agree on supporting Israel. But I tend to believe that Israel needs more Yitzhak Rabins and less Benjamin Netanyahus.

Bush IIs policy in the Middle East has been schizoid. Invading Iraq, giving Khaddafi a pass, supporting elections in the PA when all signs pointed to a Hamas win… They must have a roulette wheel or something in the State Department.

“JOE BIDEN SAYS OBAMA WILL BE TESTED BECAUSE OF HIS YOUTH & IN EXPERIENCE AS WELL THE PERCEPTION THAT HE MAY FLINCH IN A CRISIS.”

Which is irrelevant because regardless of his “youth” and “inexperience”, he’ll be tested anyway, as every president was. Dog Bites Man, end of story.

“IS McCAIN THE SECOND COMING OF REAGAN? PERHAPS.”

Wow. So how was Jonestown, Bruce?

“KHADDAFI IN LIBYA TO YOUSIF IN PALESTINE ( HE’S ACTUALLY LIVING IN EXILE IN SYRIA BECAUSE HE’S SUCH A BAD DUDE !! ) THERE ARE MUSLIM ROGUE LEADERS WOULD ARE ANXIOUS FOR AN OBAMA / BIDEN PRESIDENCY.”

Oh, I think Bush II made Khaddafi happy enough. Pan Am 103? No problem, no consequences!

Also, what’s with the caps lock?

  13. Неплохой пост, но много лишнего.
