Chairman Tom Morrissey Declines to Seek Second Term as AZGOP Chairman

Arizona Republican Party
Pending Knee Surgery and Lengthy Recovery Preclude Active Leadership Role
PHOENIX – Arizona Republican Party Chairman Tom Morrissey today announced he will not seek a second term as Chairman due to upcoming knee surgeries that will likely require a lengthy recovery period.  His term will end when the party’s State Committee meets January 26th and elects the Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer.
“My tenure as Chairman has been a fulfilling one for me, and I wish my current health circumstances did not prevent me from continuing to serve the party in the near term.  Once my recovery is complete, I expect to be fully involved in continuing to help our conservative candidates for office,” Morrissey said.  “I am proud of the numerous things the Party accomplished under my leadership: we erased our debt, and for the first time in Arizona’s history our Party holds all our statewide offices and majorities in the Legislature.  We had success on so many fronts throughout this great state because we worked hard to uphold our conservative principles and get our candidates elected.”

  1. Donna Alu, Legislative District 9 Chair says:

All the best to Mr. Morrissey and his wife, Chris. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

  2. Banphotoradar says:

Remember, there might still be criminal charges for those involved with the Robert Graham and Kirk Adams scandal.

    • Christie in 2016 says:

might be…might be…what happened to the land of innocent until proven guilty?

Let’s also not forget that the supreme court made it clear that donations to 501c4’s are protect under anninimity per the recent SPOTUS ruling for citizens united.

    • Hardly a “scandal” unless of course you’re taking your talking points from EJ Montini and Laurie Roberts. Please – Graham and Adams are heroes in my book for standing up to the unions in California and working to pass that anti-union ballot measure. The “criminal charges” you speak of were nothing more than a political hit by the CA Supreme Court trying to take down a conservative cause. Read the stories and you will see that the education unions and the labor unions DID THE EXACT SAME THING, and yet the courts didn’t try to make them disclose their donors. Me thinks that if the actors were replaced with Republicans you support (perhaps Pearce or Brewer or Biggs, etc.) you’d be calling them “heroes” and thank them for their leadership. And if this is the worst thing anyone can throw against Graham, I think that’s awesome. It’s about time we had Party Leadership in this state with balls and vision.

And it might snow in Glendale this July too… typical rumor mongering.

  3. After his comments about Obama’s birth certificate, a brain transplant may be what Mr. Morrissey needs. The republican party will never win another national election, due to having so many racists within its ranks.

  4. Veritas Vincit says:

Anyone remember Bruce Ash making the “health issue” excuse when he quit the Chairmanship race two years ago leaving us the Gang Who Couldn’t Shoot Straight? But then he continued serving in his official capacity including a sit down protest in Pinal County when County King Kook tried to evict the National Committeeman from a party election…

Morrisey needed some excuse to drop out because the pending election would be a landslide against him and his “North 24th Street Wrecking Crew”
