President Obama Misrepresents Arizona’s SB-1070

Arizona Latino Republican Association

It has become fashionable to bash Arizona’s SB1070 law among those who seek to profit by promoting racial and ethnic discord. But it is hard to imagine a sitting president of the United States stooping down to that level. Yet, that is what President Obama did during the October 16th debate. In that debate, about 1 hour, 1 minute and 17 seconds into the debate, he said the following:

“He called the Arizona law a model for the nation. Part of the Arizona law said that law enforcement officers can stop folks because they suspect that maybe they look like they might be undocumented workers, and check their papers. You know what, if my daughter, or yours, looks to somebody like they are not citizens, I don’t want to empower someone like that.”

But Arizona’s SB1070 calls for just the opposite. Section 2-b reads, in part, as follows:

“A law enforcement official or agency of this state or a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state may not solely consider race, color or national origin in implementing the requirements of this subsection except to the extent permitted by the United States or Arizona constitution.”

It is hard to imagine that the president was not aware of such a key provision of our law, especially considering that his administration opposed it all the way to the Supreme Court, where it was upheld.

The president owes an apology to the people of Arizona for having made such a gross mischaracterization during a nationally televised debate.

Jeff Flake, candidate for U. S. Senator from Arizona, opposed SB1070, right along with the Obama administration!

    “Jeff Flake (R-Arizona)”

“And this year he withstood a stout challenge from the right for (among other things) having the guts to oppose the awful SB 1070 in favor of comprehensive federal immigration reform.”

“Flake opposed Proposition 200, a state ballot initiative that required proof of U.S. citizenship before voting or collecting certain government benefits. The referendum passed with 56 percent of the vote, including 47 percent of Hispanics. Flake also opposed SB 1070, the immigration-enforcement bill that thrust Arizona to the center of the national debate and rescued Gov. Jan Brewer’s re-election campaign the way Proposition 187 saved California Gov. Pete Wilson 16 years before. According to one poll, 88 percent of Arizona Republicans favor SB 1070.”

This isn’t subjective opinion. This is documented, objective fact.

  2. Bravo ALRA!!!

I was furious that Mitt Romney did NOT counteract Obama’s remarks, and chose to backtrack on his support for SB 1070. The next day I called Governor Brewer’s office and was on hold for a half hour before giving up, then went to her website and sent a request for the Governor to hold a press conference or issue a press release exposing Obama’s comments and blasting the hell out of this PATHOLOGICAL LIAR.

Romney’s response was something I would have expected out of John McCain. BOTH he and our Governor should have been on the air waves the very next day defending SB 1070. WHERE ARE THEY?

Barack Obama is a lying open-borders criminal who cannot be removed from office soon enough!

  3. Conservative American says:

The promotion of illegal immigration by the Obama administration is just the first in a series of steps calculated to destroy our economy. What happens AFTER illegal aliens get here? Obama sees to it that they get on “welfare”, suck up resources and bust the budget!

“Administration Ignoring Law Denying Visas To ‘Likely’ Welfare Recipients, Senator Says”

    “By Craig Bannister
    October 19, 2012″

“The Obama administration is waiving a law that requires it to deny visas and entry to non-citizens who are “likely at any time to become” a government dependent – and is ignoring requests for information regarding this move, Sen. Jeff Sessions said today.”

“Sen. Sessions (R-AL), Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, issued a statement after USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack missed the deadline to reply to oversight requests for data on expenditures for non-citizens on food stamps and information regarding the administration’s waiver of federal immigration law:”

“Included in the oversight letter was a request for information about USDA’s contact with the Departments of State and Homeland Security regarding immigration law. Both DHS and DOS have effectively nullified the federal law that prohibits admission into the U.S. for those likely to become welfare reliant, further enabling USDA to surge non-citizen registration.”

“Such activities cannot be justified to the American people, which probably explains why the Administration has been unwilling to provide answers,” Sen. Sessions said.”

“According to section 212 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which defines “Classes of aliens ineligible for visas or admission”:

“Any alien who, in the opinion of the consular officer at the time of application for a visa, or in the opinion of the Attorney General at the time of application for admission or adjustment of status, is likely at any time to become a public charge is inadmissible.”

“Sen. Sessions and three other senators had previously sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and State Department Secretary Hillary Clinton – which was also ignored – asking why the federal immigration law was not being followed.”

“Commenting on Napolitano’s and Clinton’s refusal to respond, Sen. Sessions said:”

“Our initial assessment of State Department data on ‘public charge’ denials further indicates that eligibility standards are being waived.”

“Given what we already know, and the otherwise inexplicable refusal for DHS to reply to such a simple inquiry, it necessarily suggests that the executive branch is trying to prevent the public from discovering its failure to follow U.S. immigration and welfare law.”

“Editor’s Note: The USDA has been asked to comment on its failure to reply to the senator’s request, but has not yet done so.”

  4. Maybe the Arizona Latino Republican Association should start running candidates for office. They are the only conservative group with their finger to the wind and a brain in their head. They are more Republican than Republicans, with about three times more guts.

I’m for any organization which is genuinely and consistently Conservative. There are lots of pretenders out there right now but if ALRA is the real deal, I’ll be supportive of them!

  5. The problem with SB 1070 is that it is ambiguous. It doesn’t define exactly what would be illegal to consider in a traffic stop, and what is permissible. It leaves it up to the discretion of the law enforcement officer, and his judgement as to what is permitted. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work most of the time — because cops don’t think like appellate court judges — and reality is that appellate court judges — and in Arizona, the ninth circuit court of appeals — makes the rules.

I would rewrite SB 1070 to clearly define what is allowed, and what is not, and not leave anything open to interpretation. I would also add a few provisions in the law to make it easier for citizens to bring actions against police agencies and cities for not going after illegal Canadians and illegal european immigrants. Those illegals have money and are getting free medical care in Sun City, and we need to go after ‘em…. And, they don’t do anything useful, such as weeding my yard — like the mexican illegals do.
