Does this honestly surprise anyone given Quayle’s past history? I bet this is just the tip of the iceberg with this guy.
At least this story explains why it seemed that Schweikert’s “Both Ways Ben” mailer hit a little close to home with Quayle.
Ben’s Moral Compass got lost in the parking lot again.
This story is garbage for several reasons. First, no one has alleged that Ben Quayle either skinny dipped or was “boozing”. Nothing in any if the reports of what happened states that he did either. Implying that he did so with no substantiation is essentially lying. Second, Schweikert was on the same trip. So, if all the Congressmen were collectively admonished for the bad behavior of a few individuals, that admonishment applies to Schweikert as much as it does to Quayle. Plus, we don’t know if Schweikert was “boozing” anymore than we don’t know if Quayle was “boozing”. Neither was mentioned as having been “boozing” in the reports. So, we can’t assume that either one of them was “boozing”. Third, the only thing that Quayle reportedly did differently than Schweikert was swim in the Sea of Galilee. I don’t think swimming in the Sea of Galilee is bad behavior if the individual swimming was not skinny dipping. And the reports state explicitly that Quayle was not skinny dipping. Only one Congressman was reported to be skinny dipping and that was a Congressman from Kansas not Schweikert or Quayle.
I don’t live in CD6. So I can’t vote for either Quayle or Schweikert. But if I did, I probably would have voted for Schweikert, prior to the campaign heating up. But after seeing this type of nonsense garbage directed at Quayle streaming from Schweikert, the Schweikert campaign, and Schweikert supporters for weeks, I would definitely vote for Quayle.
Schweikert is probably going to win this race. But, Schweikert didn’t need to engage in a campaign of rumor, innuendo, and insults to beat Quayle. He could have beaten him on the merits. I think Schweikert is really disgracing himself by pushing this stuff. The issues facing the country are too big and important to win an election on stuff like saying somebody “Goes Both Ways”, whining about who someone’s father was, or lying that someone was skinny dipping when he wasn’t.
From what I read, Quayle’s campaign is accusing the Schweikert campaign of leaking the story to Politico. Schweikert’s campaign has denied categorically that they didn’t leak the story. You seem to have concrete knowledge that they did. (?) Why would the Quayle campaign care how the story got out if Quayle did nothing he was concerned about? It makes no sense.
As far as Schweikert’s method of campaigning, I would say the mud has been flung quite equally, that is the climate these days. If I was a candidate and McCain and Kyl turned their attention back to Arizona (after two years) to endorse my opponent and try to shape the congressional elections to fit their agenda, I’d be pulling out all the stops to.
Proclamation
Let it be known by all men, those Congress Men who went skinny dipping in Israel or anywhere else are entitled to a free Life Time Membership in Shangri-La Ranch Including a well-coming bottle of Champagne or any alternate beverage at their choosing.
We will welcome them with open arms, roll out the red carpet and have a jolly good time.
If they are local, we will hold a fund-raiser on their behalf and promote them for their election or re-election as the case may be.
Horst & Gigi Kraus
There was only one Congressman who went “skinny dipping”, it was not Quayle. But Quayle is known as a member of the “Frat Pack”, a bunch of drinking party animals. He is supposedly a “Mature, “Conservative”, Representative of his district. I guess we all know the answer to that, I know the organization I belong to went to see him in DC, they asked him questions on bills and his answer a few times was I never heard of that bill. Was he out too much to do his homework?
David is a numbers man, he knows the debt problem we have, he is ‘Mature” and “Conservative”, he is a faithful Husband and a Representative who gives his Cel-Phone number to his constituens. He is a Congressman who will make all of you in CD 5 proud. If I could vote for David I would, and remember this, McLiar and McKyl support Quayle, that should tell you who not to vote for “Young Ben Quayle”.. McCain is not satisfied with stopping everything Conservative in the Senate, he now wants to stop Conservativism in the House.
BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU VOTE, WE NEED TO STOP MCCAIN, ALSO REMEMBER VOTE WIL CARDON GET A TRUE CONSERVATIVE INT HE SENATE TOO.
I think Mr. Schweikert was correct in questioning what happened, after all the Politico story said the FBI was investigating the incident and Ben Quayle was mentioned in the article as one of the participants. Given Quayle’s playboy/frat pack image, Schweikert would have been foolish not to question.
Personally, I think when Quayle’s wife comes out and tries to speak to these accusations it does not bode well for him. You’re playing in the big leagues, fight your own battles.
There are two reasons that what you are saying is complete BS. First, the Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times both report that the FBI was not investigating the “incident”. They were investigating possible illegal campaign contributions to New York Representative Michael Grimm and as part of that investigation were looking into trips that Grimm took, including the trip to Israel. They were given reports of the trip to Israel in the course of that investigation, but weren’t investigating the behavior of any of the congressmen on the trip. So saying that the FBI was investigating “the incident” is deliberately misleading. They weren’t investigating the incident.

Second, Schweikert was on the trip himself. Presenting this as Schweikert “questioning” what happened as though he were some detached outside observer is also deliberately misleading.
Also, where does this “frat pack” image stuff come from other than Schweikert anyway? I defy you to give me a prior report of one incident since Quayle has been in office (no “Dirty Scottsdale” rehashes from years ago before he was a Congressman) that indicates that he was part of a “frat pack” or has acted like a “playboy” in Congress that doesn’t come from Schweikert or someone supporting Schweikert.
Schweikert didn’t need to do this stuff. He has a great command of the fiscal issues facing the country. He could have beaten Quayle without resorting to this rumor and innuendo campaign. I think he will regret this in the long run.
I thought “frat pack” was the liberally insane msm’s label to attack the GOP? I agree that Schweikert is playing it for what it is worth. While this may be unnecessary or out of character for Schweikert, he is no fool. The McCain-Kyl primary election tampering/hijacking machine is trying to steamroll him. Today, they reached into an undisclosed soup kitchen and pulled out pasty chef Fife Symington. Why should Schweikert “regret” pulling out all the stops against Dracula & Igor? With the McKandidate-brand on Quayle, I would vote for Schweikert even if he wasn’t a genuine conservative.
