Let’s Clear a Few Things Up

What a week. I don’t know if I’ve ever witnessed such baseless and false attacks on CAP-supported bills as I saw this week. While I understand that it may be more entertaining for some to blatantly lie about legislation, the people deserve to know the truth.

So I’m going to clear a few things up about CAP-supported bills and other issues that have been misconstrued in the press and liberal blogs this week.

HB 2625 – This simple bill protects the religious freedom of faith-based groups and other employers. No employer should be forced by the government to pay for contraception and abortifacients in their insurance plans when doing so would violate their First Amendment protected religious beliefs. The media has falsely picked up the opponents’ outrageous claims that the bill would force women to tell employers why they are taking birth control pills. Read the bill. That claim is not in the bill.

Center for Arizona Policy does not take a position on family planning or birth control. We do, however take a very strong position that faith-based institutions and employers who hold a religious belief regarding contraception should not be compelled to violate those beliefs and pay for the medication.

The bill’s sponsor, Representative Debbie Lesko has done an incredible job in numerous media interviews explaining this point, like this interview with Greta Van Sustren. Take a moment to thank Rep. Lesko by emailing her.

SB 1359
– Sponsored by Sen. Nancy Barto, this legislation is based on common sense and decency. It prohibits “wrongful life” and “wrongful birth” lawsuits. These lawsuits arise when a child is born with a disability, and the parents sue the doctor claiming that had they known their child had a disability, they would have had an abortion.

These lawsuits endorse the viewpoint that the life of a disabled child is worth less than the life of a child without a disability. Imagine what the children of the parents who file these lawsuits must feel when they get older and find out that their parents sued because they wish they would have had an abortion.

The attacks on this bill have truly been far-fetched. Some blogs claimed that this bill would allow doctors to knowingly withhold information from parents. Untrue. This bill does nothing to protect doctors that cause harm to preborn children, withhold information, or are grossly negligent.

Bullying, Part Two. Perhaps you’ve seen the attacks on me and CAP this week regarding the anti-bullying legislation I wrote about last week. I’ve been called a “legislative terrorist” and I’m sure a few other names by the time you read this.

While most of the attacks do not warrant a response, I do want to address one false statement made by State Senator David Schapira. He has claimed multiple times that I said SB 1462 is a “back door gay bill, no pun intended.” I would never say something so crass. Sen. Schapira – disagree with me if you want. But stop telling lies about what I supposedly said.

Click here to see a Channel 12 news clip attacking us for our position then click here to read the statement I issued to the press in response.

Pornographers coming to Arizona? – Several of you have written me recently about the California pornography industry threatening to come to Arizona because of new regulations in Los Angeles.

What wasn’t mentioned is the huge roadblock in their way: filming pornography in Arizona violates our prostitution laws.

Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery sent a clear message to pornographers this week when he released a statement explaining how virtually all of those involved in pornography could be subject to felony charges:

Under Arizona law, anyone paid to appear in a pornographic movie may be guilty of the crime of prostitution, which carries mandatory jail time as well as the possibility of other penalties. Furthermore, anyone involved in other aspects of producing pornographic movies, including soliciting individuals to appear, collecting a fee from the monies received by individuals solicited to appear by virtue of an agent relationship, transporting individuals from California to Arizona for the purpose of appearing in a pornographic movie, and/or establishing a venue for the filming and/or production of pornographic movies may be guilty of committing one or several felonies in the state of Arizona. Accordingly, Arizona law precludes the establishment of a “pornography industry” to any degree such as that present in California.

You can read his full statement here. After you read it, take a moment to thank Mr. Montgomery for standing up to the pornography industry.

  1. Aw, come on Cathi, you can’t balme the guy for trying to get some attention. It never fails to happen, when a Democrat is on the losing end of an issue–attack, attack, attack. ad hominem anyone? (Just what is a “legislative terrorist” and do they blow themselves up?)
And of course, there’s the deception aspect as well. Schapira told the press that this wasn’t about the gay agenda, then the only student who spoke at the press conference was gay. Get your story straight (pardon the pun) Sen. Schapira.

  2. bagsjgms says:

Wow chick, you are exactly right about Joan even though your sarcasm falls flat. This Cathi loon isn’t “clearing anything up”. These bills are the product of a right wing lunatic legislature that has no interest in the state’s problems. It manufactures problems and introduces partisan bills to satisfy their religion-driven cult whims. All this woman and the “legislators” (correctly referred to as political terrorists) want is to legislate others’ morality and bedroom habits. That’s what 14th century minded zealots LIVE for – less government only means less DEMOCRATIC government but greatly increased bureaucratic departments to push more REPUBLICAN intrusion into private behavior. Hopefully this whole crew of gun-totin’, women’s rights-hatin’, gay-bashin’, minority-killin’ christ slaves will all be royally turfed out in November and sent back to Iran where they can really get into the theocracy they are pushing on us.

How much does Klute’s hero, “progressive” Democrat B. Hussein Obama, really care about health care services for low income women?

“Feds to Texas: You defunded Planned Parenthood, now we’re defunding you”

“posted at 3:05 pm on March 16, 2012 by Tina Korbe”

“When the Texas state administration first considered a rule to ban Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers from participating in the Texas’ Women’s Health Program, which is jointly funded by the state of Texas and the federal government, the Obama administration retaliated by threatening to cut funding to the program entirely. Texas Health and Human Services Commissioner Thomas Suehs signed the rule anyway — and the ball was back in the Obama administration’s court.”

“Yes, the Obama administration actually does want to cut funding and jeopardize the Texas’ Women’s Health Program entirely. He cares more to protect Planned Parenthood than he does to protect women’s health, in general. Fortunately for low-income women in Texas, Rick Perry won’t stand for it.”

“Perry, who slammed the federal government constantly during his short-lived bid for the Republican presidential nomination, has directed state health officials to find the funding to keep the program going from other parts of the budget, but he has promised not to raise revenues to cover the costs.”

    • Conservative tactic 1: When losing an argument, trying to change the subject.

      • Conservative American says:

Hey, Fatso, look above in the thread. I’m still continuing to shred the tripe you posted. You see Klute, some of us aren’t so fat that we have to limit ourselves to doing just one thing at a time. ;-)

  4. Conservative American says:

And now, let’s see what else the Gay Gestapo has been doing in their attempts to stomp religion under their jackboots!

“Attorney Says School Threatened, Punished WI Boy Who Opposed Gay Adoption”

“A 15-year-old Wisconsin boy who wrote an op-ed opposing gay adoptions was censored, threatened with suspension and called ignorant by the superintendent of the Shawano School District, according to an attorney representing the child.”

“Mathew Staver, the founder of the Liberty Counsel, sent a letter to Superintendent Todd Carlson demanding an apology for “Its unconstitutional and irrational censorship and humiliation” of Brandon Wegner.”

“Wegner, a student at Shawano High School, was asked to write an op-ed for the school newspaper about whether gays should be allowed to adopt. Wegner, who is a Christian, wrote in opposition. Another student wrote in favor of allowing gays to adopt.”

“Wegner used Bible passages to defend his argument, including Scripture that called homosexuality a sin.”

“After the op-ed was published, a gay couple whose child attend s the high school, complained.”

“The school immediately issued an apology – stating Wegner’s opinion was a “form of bullying and disrespect.”

“But Staver said what the school system did next was absolutely outrageous. He said the 15-year-old was ordered to the superintendent’s office where he was subjected to hours of meetings and was accused of violating the school’s bullying policy.”

“The superintendent called him ignorant and said he had the power to suspend him,” Staver said. “He’s using his position to bully this student. This is absolutely the epitome of intolerance.”

“Staver said the boy’s parents were never notified.”

“The superintendent wants everyone to accept homosexuality as normative and homosexual adoption as something that should be standard practices,” Staver said. “In doing so, he’s belittling the views and the biblical views of many people across this country. He is playing a zero-sum game. He’s not interested in dialogue. He wants to cram his view down the throat of everyone else and will not tolerate an opposing viewpoint.”

    http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes/top-stories/atty-says-school-threatened-punished-boy-who-opposed-gay-adoption.html

So now we can understand where Klute is coming from when he writes: “There is no public benefit to an employer making a private religious exemption. There is no national priority for a private religious exemption.” The Gay Gestapo is on the move, seeking to eliminate religion.

  5. Phoenix48 says:

Klutes rants prove the point of why Shapira isn’t going anywhere in the upcoming.

Crude invictive – whether in person one on one or as a media strategy are tell tale signs of weakness; weak character and weak arguments. Shapira’s foul and disprespectful (and disgraceful) ‘use’ of Cathi Herrod are tactics mimicing the Steve Gallardo intepretation of how to win votes and influence people.

He only proves how over his head he is in the upcoming CD9 primary with this kind of invictive.

Cathi Herrod is the consumate professional – and all the more an attractive target because she is good at what she does. Under a conservative governor and with our current legislative makeup – historically to the right – shes helping drive an adgenda that drives dolts like Shapira to foul-mouthed erruptions practically on a monthly basis.

Why? Because shes classy and brassy.

Unlike Gallardo she doesn’t IMPORT paid protesters for faux media protests – and she exudes her values in how she does business. While I might not always agree – her SA posts have always been fact driven and informative – and above all else – civil.

Unlike Klute and his tolerated (here) foul-mouthed rants. Post after post of name calling. Cartoon elastisity when it comes to ‘information.’

Maybe a few Dimocrates will get a clue that THESE TACTICS are a big part of the reason you folks are so far IN THE MINORITY!

Shapira’s actions were nothing more than political grandstanding – shilling for free news coverage – something he desperately needs BECAUSE HE CAN’T ATTRACT CONTRIBUITIONS – (I know ‘citizens united’ bla bla bla excuse after excuse).

Despite Channel 12 & the Repugnant dutifully reacting to dog whistle carping – voters in CD9 – as well as the rest of the state – see right through it.

What is most pathetic? This clown is their #1? This is who they sat in committee and decided should represent them publicly? A former school teacher who has the potty mouth of a 14-year-old and the temper control of a 6th grader?

That soap box he was standing on just cratered into a TINY BUBBLES! Total loser & epic fail. 20 to 1 HE DROPS OUT BEFORE THE PRIMARY.

Now Klute can resume his gutter puking; at least try and do it creatively. Since you have no argument couldn’t you at least try and be an amusing carny barker?

    • “Unlike Klute and his tolerated (here) foul-mouthed rants. Post after post of name calling.”

But, ConAm’s is tolerated day after day, with at least 5 posts here where ConAm is VERY interested in my physique. I don’t whine about it, Phoenix48, but man, you sure do. Own your hypocrisy, Phoenix48, you’ll be happier for it – less conflicted.

“Since you have no argument couldn’t you at least try and be an amusing carny barker?”

Actually, I have many arguments – section Z of the new law being in conflict with HIPAA, but ConAm tried to distract from it by injecting his obession with gay marriage into the mix, then his interest in my physique – over and over, he commented on it.

I’m hilarious – I get judged for it on a regular basis in slam, and get paid to be so in shows across the country. You guys are lucky, I give it away here at Sonoran Alliance for free.

      • Conservative American says:

If you can’t take the heat, Klute, get out of the kitchen. ;-)

        Oh, and never forget this:

Have a nice day, Fat Person, LOL! :-)

Klute has that “progressive” Democrat thing of somehow not being able to see things they don’t want to address. That’s okay, we’ll keep trying, LOL!

“Dems caught staffing group posing as GOP-friendly gay marriage organization”

    “By Amelia Chasse
    March 15, 2012″

“The national gay marriage lobby group behind Standing Up for New Hampshire Families has privately used New Hampshire Democrats to volunteer and staff their activities despite posing for months as a Republican-friendly organization.”

“Standing Up for New Hampshire Families, which NH Journal has identified as an organization actually run out of New York and Washington, DC, has spent a tremendous amount of national money running ads designed to brand it as a Republican-leaning, pro-gay marriage organization. They have even appropriated the iconic red, white and blue Republican elephant in their advertising.”

“But recent e-mails obtained by NH Journal demonstrate that the manpower used to back their lobbying and allegedly grassroots efforts come exclusively from city and county Democrat organizations.”

“You have to participate in either one of these phone banks tonight or Saturday,” directed James Hattan, co-chair of the Concord City Democrats to in an e-mail obtained by NH Journal. The phone banks are designed to trick Republican legislators that gay marriage has mainstream Republican support.”

“Similar e-mails were sent to other Democrat organizations urging them to pressure Republican lawmakers.”

“According to the e-mails, the ringleader of the phone bank and lobbying activity is Trevor Chandler. Chandler is a Democratic political operative who once worked for Rep. Paul Hodes (D-N.H.), whose Senate candidacy was rejected by Granite State voters in 2010.”

    http://nhjournal.com/2012/03/15/dems-caught-staffing-group-posing-as-gop-friendly-gay-marriage-organization/

Now Klute’s “progressive” Democrats are fond of recall elections, except when they seek to make Democrats accountable on social issues! Let’s see how the Democrat mayor of El Paso, Texas is handling a recall over social issues!

Mayor: Freedom of speech is over
In pitched battle with churches, orders critic to leave city meeting”

“El Paso, Texas, mayor John Cook, who has been in a pitched battle with local churches and the faith-oriented members in his community in recent months and could end up facing a recall election, apparently doesn’t have much empathy for those who support the religious element in his community.”

“The long- and still-running conflict dates back to the latter part of 2010 when the city’s voters by popular petition passed an ordinance prohibiting the city from extending benefits to unmarried domestic partners, which would include homosexual duos.”

“Some members of the city council didn’t like what the voters had done, and voted to rescind the voters’ work. The mayor approved the move, which promptly triggered a grassroots campaign – which included church members and leaders – to circulate a petition demanding a recall of the offenders.”

“Cook then filed suit alleging the Word of Life Church of El Paso, Pastor Tom Brown, ElPasoans for Traditional Family Values and others violated Texas election law by circulating the petitions, which succeeded at prompting a recall election scheduled in the spring.”

“The mayor did not halt the attack on Christians.”

“In light of that attack a woman, Elizabeth Branham, approached the podium during the public comment section of the next meeting, a week later.”

“Thank you, your time is over,” said Cook. “If you can’t remove yourself from the podium, I’ll have you removed. Yeah. You can take your freedom of speech outside.”

  11. Hmmm. Maybe you’re not the David Vitter of SA. Maybe you’re the Ted Haggard of SA.

  12. Conservative American says:

You are WRONG, Klute, and therefore Cathi is NOT a liar as you claim. The problem is simply your ingorance, or active deception, as usual.

“As such, the Rule GENERALLY prohibits a covered entity from using or disclosing protected health information unless authorized by patients, EXCEPT WHERE THIS PROHIBITION WOULD RESULT IN UNNECESSARY INTERFERENCE with access to quality health care OR WITH CERTAIN OTHER IMPORTANT PUBLIC BENEFITS OR NATIONAL PRIORITIES.” (Upper case added for emphasis.)

    http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/understanding/coveredentities/sharingfortpo.pdf

And so we see yet ANOTHER liberal tactic at work here. What is this one? It’s called “lie until someone catches you”. Klute is dishing up a bunch of verbiage and hoping that people will be too lazy to check out the actual language of HIPAA for themselves.

And here’s a bonus for you Klute:

“There is no federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage.” – Elena Kagan

  13. Conservative American says:

  14. Are you f****ing stupid? Did some crawling fungus you picked up at Tent CIty crawl up your spine and infect your brain? Hanging out with your ‘woods buddies give you a memotic virus?

“OR WITH CERTAIN OTHER IMPORTANT PUBLIC BENEFITS OR NATIONAL PRIORITIES.”

There is no public benefit to an employer making a private religious exemption. There is no national priority for a private religious exemption.

The part you didn’t highlight, because you’re a coward to afraid to admit he’s wrong:

“GENERALLY prohibits a covered entity from using or disclosing protected health information unless authorized by patients”

What part of “unless authorized by patients” is unclear to you, coward?

    Cathy Herrod’s a liar, you’re an enabler.

“And here’s a bonus for you Klute:”

It’s a bonus for you, ConAm. A psychiatrist would have a field day with your obsession with homosexuality. Maybe your wife isn’t challenging you enough so you need to think about something, all the time, that gets your dander up.

  15. Conservative American says:

    ROFL, ROFL, ROFL, ROFL!!!!!!!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-)

And we FINALLY get to what is behind ALL of Klute’s protestations, LOL!

Klute wrote: “There is no public benefit to an employer making a private religious exemption. There is no national priority for a private religious exemption.”

No, no, no, Klute, It goes like this:

“There is no federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage.” – Elena Kagan

Now Klute, tell us what you think about religion. Tell us what you think about those who object to homosexual “marriage” on religious grounds. Hmmm?

Have a nice day, Fat Boy! :-)

  16. “Now Klute, tell us what you think about religion.”

Religion is a personal matter that affects the individual only. My Catholicism, for instance, has no impact on anyone elses beliefs. If someone chooses to not be Catholic, that’s a personal choice, and it has no impact on me. So, if someone chooses not to follow the doctrines of the Church, that doesn’t impact me at all.

“Tell us what you think about those who object to homosexual “marriage” on religious grounds.”

I think, like those who opposed interacial or inter-religious marriages, you’ll be remembered as embarassments to the human race, and are using religion to justify your own bigotry, to try to pretending to be martyrs. And in your case, you might be closet case. You should learn from Paul Babeu, ConAm. There’s no shame in coming out, even in law enforcement – I’m sure there enough gays in the ‘woods that you wouldn’t feel out of place at Tent City.

  17. Conservative American says:

So then you aren’t really “Catholic” as you claim. You are half “Catholic”. You pick and choose and decide for yourself which parts of Catholicism you will follow and which you will ignore.

That’s very convenient, Klute. You can claim to be a “Catholic” while making up your own religion as you go along.

  18. Conservative American says:

“The flowering of priestly and religious vocations depends to a large extent on the moral and religious health of Christian families”, the Pope explained. In this context he referred to “the scourges of abortion, corruption, alcoholism and drugs, as well as birth control by methods contrary to the dignity of the human person”, saying that “in order to combat these challenges, you must promote parish consultancy services and organise improved pastoral care of the young”.

    http://www.vis.va/vissolr/index.php?vi=en&dl=52a194ab-a059-eb3e-7188-4f1fc0b15831&dl_t=text/xml&dl_a=y&ul=1&ev=1

“In addition to a clear goal, that of leading young people to a full knowledge of reality and thus of truth, education needs settings. Among these, pride of place goes to the family, based on the marriage of a man and a woman.” – Benedict XVI

    http://www.vis.va/vissolr/index.php?vi=en&dl=b9ee061c-e1a4-45e8-b73e-4f1fc189c5b6&dl_t=text/xml&dl_a=y&ul=1&ev=1

So you claim to be “Catholic” but you aren’t concerned about the “scourge of abortion” or about marriage as between “a man and a woman”.

  19. I don’t claim to be a Catholic, ConAm. I am a Catholic, I take the sacraments, I go to confession, I receive communion. I believe in the structure of my religion.

Am I a heretical Catholic? You bet. I differ with the Church on many things. So did far better people than me over the centuries. That’s why the Church has evolved. Why it will continue to evolve.

  20. Conservative American says:

You ignore the long-standing position of the Catholic Church regarding abortion and the position of the Church that marriage is exclusively between one man and one woman. These are very fundamental core values of the Catholic Church.

You seek to redefine Catholicism just as you seek to redefine marriage. It is not within your purview to redefine the Catholic Church. If you wish to be Catholic, you conform to the Church, the Church does not conform to Klute.

The Church may evolve but it is today what it is today and if you want to define Catholicism as what you project it will evolve to, then you are a “Catholic” of some church which does not exist.

  21. Conservative American says:

    Cut the garbage, Klute, LOL!

Are you REALLY trying to tell us that you can receive a state of grace when you go to confession with the intenton of confessing sins which you fully intend to repeat into the future? You don’t even know what confession is about, LOL!

“Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned and I am determined to commit the same sins into the future.”

No, you don’t repeatedly commit the same sins over and over again, with the INTENTION of repeating those sins into the future, and get a free pass, LOL!

  22. The above poster, Conservative American, has an unhealthy obsession with The Klute, which goes so far as to look up pictures online, learn his real name, check on his activities in real life, comment on his personal salvation, and make constant comments on The Klute’s physique.

While being completely self-obsessed and narcissistic, you seem to have missed this, Klute:

    Cut the garbage, Klute, LOL!

Are you REALLY trying to tell us that you can receive a state of grace when you go to confession with the intenton of confessing sins which you fully intend to repeat into the future? You don’t even know what confession is about, LOL!

“Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned and I am determined to commit the same sins into the future.”

No, you don’t repeatedly commit the same sins over and over again, with the INTENTION of repeating those sins into the future, and get a free pass, LOL!

    Hey, Klute, you missed something…

Let’s have a look at how Klute’s beloved Democrats deal politically with social issues, shall we?

But hey, Klutester, you overlooked this one…
