Politics makes for strange bedfellows.  County Supervisor Fulton Brock knows all too well the truth of that pithy quote and has declined to stand for re-election.  We previously have applauded his decision to reduce the political pressures in order to achieve some measure of personal peace.
Another county official, Superisor Don Stapley, taking heed of wise counsel we’ve offered him in recent weeks, has likewise chosen the path of least resistance by formally withdrawing from his potential candidacy for the seat he currently holds.  Apparently the electoral process just isn’t the sure thing it used to be.
Both of these gentlemen are showing the effects of butting heads with growing conservative citizen involvement stemming from the Tea Party movement.  Now that The People have been shaken out of their complacence by national events and are alert and involved once again, things are heating up for underperforming elected officials.  Citizens at every level are beginning to apply their experience and passion to a dedicated overwatch of those who would make policy and spend our taxes.  Elected and potential ‘public servants’ will underestimate these patriots at their peril.
Certain Progressive activist-organizers have also felt the wrath of Tea Party groups at County meetings.  The Arizona 2012 Project recently outfoxed the loony leftists by showing up early and in sufficient numbers to deny the anti-Arpaio occupiers seats – and a soapbox – at Board of Supervisors hearings.  Our presence was also noted from the dias; more than one Supervisor thanked the group for being there and for helping strengthen our officials’ resolve during difficult times.  For subsequent meetings, the agitators didn’t even bother to show up, reinforcing the adage that the best way to discourage a bully is to (metaphorically) bloody his nose.
Gone are the cushy days of flim-flam public hearings, phantom budgets, hidden perks, and asset shifting that were intentionally obscure but otherwise seemingly tolerable in our years of explosive growth.  Times have changed and we’ve run out of other peoples’ money.  Candidates who favor true transparency and accountability in government are once again in demand and will be welcomed, supported, and defended by a newly awakened populace.
The rabble-busters of the Arizona 2012 Project are busily planning their next unconventional engagement with the opposition.  The spirits of our Founding Fathers are smiling once again.

“… taking heed of wise counsel we’ve offered him in recent weeks, …”

Wow. It takes some ego to say in public that your own advice is “wise counsel.” Further, do you have any evidence that Mr. Stapley chose not to run because of anything you’ve said?

    • Conservative American says:

And what wise counsel do you have to offer us, David?

      • David says:

Was that supposed to be a defense of the oversized ego?

        • Conservative American says:

No, David, that was supposed to be calling out a big mouth who criticizes others for their “wise counsel” but has nothing to put on the line himself. You have some “wise counsel” for us? Well, do ‘ya, David?

  2. TruConserv says:

No real American, no patriot, and certainly no conservative would ever take pride in conspiring to ensure other Americans are denied their right to participate in a public meeting.

What’s next, more lame stories, laden with the same grammar and punctuation errors, about slashing tires to ensure “RINO” voters can’t get to the polls?

    You disgust me.

    • Conservative American says:

      “TruConserv” also wrote this:

“It is not our goal to oppose everything Marx supported.”

He was speaking about Karl Marx, the author of the “Manifesto of the Communist Party”.

I suspect he’s seeing Red. ‘Ya think? ;-)

      • TruConserv says:

Unable to give a substantive response, CA resorts to the wingnut safehaven of giving quotes out of context.

The truth is that it is not our goal to oppose everything Marx supported. He wanted trains to run on time, that doesn’t mean we don’t.

Conservatives lead their lives guided by their principles. They examine their internal compass when selecting the path or right and wrong.

In contrast, the wingnut leads a rudderless, un-examined life. He is a reactionary. His path is determined by his political rivals. What they want, he doesn’t. What they don’t want, he does.

I want a fair, honest presentation of conservative ideas. CA sees me as his political rival, thus his continued efforts to shut down discussion with his spammy lies.

        • Conservative American says:

          Well, TC, you wrote this:

“It is not our goal to oppose everything Marx supported.”

He was speaking about Karl Marx, the author of the “Manifesto of the Communist Party”.

          You also wrote this:

“BTW: Karl Marx also drank milk. Should we all join PETA now to demonstrate how anti-Marx we are?”

          There we have it!

Have a nice day, Pinko! :-)

        • Conservative American says:

          And you wrote this:

“True, Marx advocated a progressive income tax. He also advocated retaining laws against crimes such as murder. Should we oppose murder laws now as well?”

All in all, a pretty impressive defense of Karl Marx, the author of the “Manifesto of the Communist Party”, TC!

  3. Alicia Gegner says:

the only people I know who use the term wingnuts are jackass lefties, even those who pose as conservatives. What a dufus. Hey TC, when you were talking about Marx, was it Groucho or Karl? Can you tell the difference?

By the way, if people come to a public meeting to shout and interrupt, you could they are participating, but should they be allowed to stay? I don’t think so. Their right to free speech ends when they prevent me from talking. How come TC always stands up for the bad guys?

    • TruConserv says:

If you think only lefties use the term wingnut, then you must be a wingnut, because plenty of conservatives can’t stand the lunatic fringe and that terms is used extensively amongst them – even by those who show up at your rallies to egg you on. Don’t blame me because you don’t know when a politician is pandering to you.

If someone is there to disrupt the meeting, let them be arrested. I have no problem with that, but that isn’t what the author bragged about.

He bragged about conspiring to deny access to public meeting to a political viewpoint he dislikes.

True Americans, and certainly true conservatives, love the Constitution and the freedoms it protects.

      Why don’t you?

      • Conservative American says:

What in the world would you know abou being Conservative, Pinko?

        You wrote this:

““It is not our goal to oppose everything Marx supported.”

That’s Karl Marx you’re talking about, the father of Communism.

Have a nice day, Pinko! :-)

    • Conservative American says:

Personally, Alicia, I like this part of what you wrote the best:

“How come TC always stands up for the bad guys?”

Kind of gives it away, doesn’t it! ;-)

  4. Willing to Listen says:

I am truly interested in what you say about Don Stapley. He has been on the board of supervisors for 18 years during which time they have completely balanced the budget, paid down and avoid debt, and have kept our property tax at basically the same amount during that period. Those seem like very conservative acts. What has he done that is not conservative? I know that people often talk negatively of him, but I really want to know. What did he do?

And please don’t talk about Andrew Thomas. I am willing to consider the arguments that Stapley has not been as conservative as he should be, but Thomas is about to be disbarred for acting unethically and anything that Thomas said/did does not have very much credence in my opinion.

  5. The Mole says:

Willing to Listen. You are dead wrong. Stapley merely benefited from a good trend in the economy. My property tax as well as everyone I know more than doubled in the time he has been in office. He built a $347 million court tower the no one wanted or needed, laying off many county employees with families to support. He voted to take away the rights of other county elected officers by denying them the access to public records. The list is long and if you pay attention, you will see it all again during what will be his failed race in CD9. This partial list doesn’t even start on his personal unethical misuse of campaign funds for a bogus election to a board. That list includes things like spending the money on hair plugs and personal family vacations to Hawaii. Don’t even have time to list his unethical dealings with convicted felon Wolfswinkel.

By the way, two other County attorney’s said his criminal charges have merit, but prosecution was impossible because of all the media attention. These examples are endless and most are even reported in the Arizona Repulsive. They tried to cover up a lot, but too much came out and even they had to start reporting it.

Google it TC no one has time for your crap. We know what you are about.

He supports democrats and votes with Mary Rose Wilcox, who is about as disgusting a person as I ever heard of. He is also an open boarder guy.

  6. Carlist says:

    Mole:

But Stapely was a “good Republican” insofar as he bent over
backwards to combat any office holder within the county
    who actually enforced immigration laws.

That should get him the AZ Chamber of Commerce’s “Lifetime Achievement Award”
along with lifetime free hotel, restaurant and fast food passes!

  7. No guts, no glory says:

Stop the arguing my friends and be happy an independent organization has stepped forward to change the paradign. Let’s face it, Brock, Stapley and Smith have been a public embarassment and the reality is they would have been forced out of office in a short time. I’m thankful they “saw the light” and made the dicision to get out before they were publically dressed down.

Good comment, no guts, no glory. We’re talking about this over at http://www.helpingaz.com, too. This, and a slew of other things affecting our great state. Please join us.
