PHOENIX, AZ – The Summit Consulting Group is pleased to release top line results from a live telephone survey of 600 likely Republican Presidential Preference voters statewide. The survey was conducted September 19th and 20th and has a margin of error of ± 4%.
The Key Findings:
Now, if the Feb 28th Presidential preference primary were held today and the Republican candidates were (ROTATE): Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, for whom would you vote?
Mitt Romney 31%
Rick Perry 25%
Michele Bachmann 5%
Herman Cain 5%
Newt Gingrich 4%
Ron Paul 3%
Jon Huntsman 2%
Rick Santorum >1%
UNDECIDED 24%
Summary:
While this is our first Presidential Preference survey for the 2012 election, it appears Arizona Republican voters have narrowed their choices down to two top contenders. Clearly this race is now between Governors Perry and Romney. Governor Romney has visited the state multiple times while Governor Perry has yet to make a visit to the Grand Canyon state. Rep. Bachmann has visited Arizona twice in the last six months, most recently for a private campaign fundraiser as well as a meeting with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Nearly 8 in 10 respondents (77%) identified their political ideology as “conservative,” nearly 20% as “moderates” while the remainder self-identified themselves as “liberal” Republicans.
This survey was not commissioned by any of the candidates but is only part of an ongoing series of public opinion surveys on topics of political interest Summit will be conducting throughout the election cycle.

If Romney and Perry are the Republican presidential ticket for 2012, Obama could actually win despite his performance in office. Why? Because it would be 2008 all over again!
Neither Romney nor Perry are Conservative. Both are “Obama Lite” just as was McCain in 2008. Romney gave birth to Romneycare, the trial balloon for Obamacare. Perry approved legislation in Texas providing for illegal aliens to pay in-state tuition at Texas State run colleges and universities. He also failed to support Arizona’s SB1070 immigration legislation stating that it wouldn’t be right for Texas.
Yet once again we are being set up by the Republican establishment so that we don’t have a real choice in the presidential election. We can have “Republicans” who support the “One World” agenda or we can have “Democrats” who support the “One World” agenda.
Republicans would be betting on Obama having angered enough of his 2008 base that they either vote Republican or that they simply stay home on election day. I wouldn’t want to put my money on that.
The one possible saving grace for Americans would be if enough genuinely Conservative Republicans were elected to Congress to keep Romney’s and Perry’s Liberal tendencies in check just as they did when George W. Bush was pushing for “comprehensive immigration reform”. It’s also possible that Romney and Perry might change their approach if they have to consider the entire nation rather than merely the politics of one state but I wouldn’t count on a tiger changing it’s stripes.

CA –
Please explain what you mean by “genuinely Conservative Republicans.” Both Romney and Perry are staunch economic conservatives that this country is in desperate of. And who is your top pick for President?
“Genuinely Conservative” means that they haven’t created “Obamacare Lite”, like Romney did with “Romneycare”, and that they didn’t apporve having illegal aliens pay in-state tuition at state run colleges and universities like Perry did. Given those actions, neither Romney nor Perry are Conservatives, let alone “staunch Conservatives”. I see you’ve been drinking the Kool-Aid.
My top pick for president would be U. S. Senator Jim DeMint. Unfortunately, he has chosen not to run. As a genuine Conservative, he has been at odds with establishment Republicans for quite some time and still is.
Paula thanks for asking the question. I would have thought that our Conservative friend would be a big time supporter of Michele Bachmann. To be real honest I think that she might have made it if her husband wasn’t in the picture. The guy gives me the willies. But everything she says seems to be right in line with the Tea Party movement.
Conservative “friend”? LOL! I’m no friend of yours and your’re no friend of mine. Let’s be clear on that.

LOL – CA. Do you have any friends on here . . . or do you just show up on EVERY Sonoran Alliance post at least 10 times, just to piss people off. People like you give a bad name to the rest of us who REALLY ARE Fiscal Conservatives and always have been. Would you like two shots of NASTY in your Skinny Frappuccino?
I don’t give a rat’s patootie if I have friends here or not and I especially don’t want a Liberal like you for a friend. Not everyone is as weak as you are, feeling that they need the praise and support of others when they post a comment.
Hey, Einstein, why don’t you look through the the comments section in every post and count the number where I haven’t made a comment. When you say that I make a comment in every post you’re just telling another lie, as usual.

You don’t need my help with having a bad name for yourself. Might I add that you give yourself away as a flaming left wing Liberal when you call yourself a “fiscal Conservative”. Real Conservatives have stated repeatedly that Conservatives have no such dichotomy, that they are both fiscally and socially conservative.
Double Decaf Latte wrote: “Would you like two shots of NASTY in your Skinny Frappuccino?” If you think you can serve it up, go for it! You’ll never know unless you try.
Since you identify yourself only as a “fiscal” Conservative, what is your position on same-sex marriage, which is a social issue?
