It would be a mistake to run Romney. It would be exactly the same mistake that the Republican Party made in 2008 by running John McCain. Romney is yet another “moderate” Republican rather than a Conservative. It would be the same old story of having a choice of whether you want to be hung with a new rope or an old one. Just about anyone would be better than Obama but I think that Republicans can, should and need to offer more than just the least worst.
In 2008 I was for Romney when he was going against McCain. I just wonder how many of those backing Romney now could say the same.
Interesting point, Bernard!
Seriously? Romney? More ot the same old political machine? We need REAL CHANGE in our government, and that starts with a REAL person, not a used car salesman like Romney! BOOOO all of you who must not have been affected AT ALL by this economy!!
Last election a nice elderly lady asked me why I would not support McCain for President. As politely as I could I told her “Because, McCain stands for nothing.” She then asked me “What do you mean?” So I told her “It’s past time for Republicans to distinguish themselves from Democrats. John McCain is no different than Obama in his core beliefs. Therefore, he is Republican in name only.”
After a couple of moments of reflection on what I told her, she said “You are right. I’ll find some one else to vote for.”
So, just insert Romney into the above conversation for either McCain or Obama and the result is the same.
You need to put “LEAST” in bold letters in your poll question. I think it would change the outcome. Most people want to vote for a candidate. Not against one. Romney is at least as electable as Obama. So, there.
Rather than supporting a “moderate” go ahead and support the “conservative,” like Newt “major baggage” Gingrich, Michelle Bachmann or Sarah Palin and then watch another four years of Obama. When will the extremists understand that they continually hand the country over to the Democrats? Sometimes I think that the right-wing extremists (yes, you Conservative American) are a Democrat party’s ploy to drive the Republican party to the edge of extinction. Ronald Reagan was not extreme. Nor Eisenhower, nor the Bush boys. An extremist cannot beat a Democrat, including an unpopular Obama. I noticed…no Russell Pearce on the endorsements for Romney. Hmmm. The lack of a Pearce endorsement could end up being a blessing come November.
