Repost their puffery? I guess they didn’t like you posting the video of them caught lying – http://sonoranalliance.com/2011/07/15/pima-gop-good-ol-boys-bait-switch-exposed-manning-house-tonight-4-pm/

  2. I am striving to give both sides of this issue access. Rather than bury it and be accused of not being equitable, I’d rather get the issue out for discussion. My only word of caution is that you all will have to “live with one another” once this is all over. I really hope you understand this.

  3. Steve Calabrese says:

I can’t help but wonder why the Arizona State Republican Party is not involved in something that appears to be a rules conflict in a chartered subdivision of itself.

    • Steve Calabrese says:

Ah….answering my own question, someone at the State GOP says that they don’t have legal authority regarding county statutory officers.

  4. David says:

“When the leader of an organization speaks for himself instead of the body that he was elected to, then division and chaos are the result. That is an unacceptable position for any organized body to be in and yet that is where the Pima GOP finds itself today.”
Does the Pima County Executive Committee believe in the 1st Amendment? They can stop the division and chaos and resign. A bunch of good o’ boys telling other people what to say and do … makes me just want to spit in their eye.

    • Been there says:

Sounds like the PACyderm Coalition. They support any wife-beater/felon that supports who they tell to support in other races. One year, these puppets endorsed Ted Carpenter over Pamela Gorman. PACyderm regularly endorses candidates that lick the hand of the unions and trial lawyers. They are a mess in their lack of ideology.

  5. Andy Goss says:

I can understand the arguments made by both sides. It’s the timing of this that stinks. We’re halfway through July and it is time for candidates to announce and races to run. It is going to be extremely difficult to do that with so much enmity. While I don’t live in Arizona any longer, I have made great friends in the Pima County GOP and hate to see this fracture that just cannot be set and won’t heal. Whatever is going to happen needs to happen soon so this can be put in the rear-view mirror. There’s no future in the past. There is a mayor to dispatch and a congressional race, maybe two, that needs to be won and there is just no way that can happen with the current atmosphere. I hope ya’ll can focus on the bigger picture soon and not give the Democrats any more ammunition. The way things are now is how it feels to be a liberal. Angry and discombobulated. I know passions are high and people feel how they are going to feel but please, come to a solution and go win some elections.

    • Oberserve says:

What people say doesn’t mean anything. It’s what they DO.

The executive committee accuses Miller of all sorts of things, yet they engage not only in the SAME CONDUCT but FAR WORSE!

So, again, what the sides SAY is irrelevant. It’s what they DO that matters.

Here’s the thing, all of what the executive committee says is BS anyway, what this is about is McCainiacs wanting to control the RNC money that will be spent in that county during the presidential election.

It always comes back to money, especially when it comes to the McCainiacs. God forbid that a non-McCainiac consultant or autodialer firm might receive some $ spent by the Pima County party received from the RNC.

Can’t let that happen so need to change chairmen to ensure McCainiacs remain in firm control!

      • reality check says:

The firm that former Pima GOP Chairman Brian Miller contracted with for the new walking system (the new tech) FTIN was recommended by the John McCain campaign. There was no contract with an autodialer firm. Additionally, Pima GOP has received no funds from the RNC in 2011 and rarely receive substantial RNC funds in any year.

  7. Gene Chewning says:

In my view, there were some things about the calling of the meeting, arrangements and the vote that may not have entirely Kosher.

    • Donna says:

      Gene,
Everything that was done was approved by both Sean Brearcliffe (sp?), the Pima GOP lawyer (and a pc) as well as Sharon Giese, who served as parliamentarian for the proceedings (she is a registered parliamentarian). She is also our RNC Committeewoman.

It was all done legally and properly.

      • Gene Chewning says:

Maybe legally but not properly. The signers of the petition were told that the meeting was for a bylaw change and had nothing to do with removing Brian. If that was to be done it would have to be at another, later special election.

        • Donna says:

At the time that was true. They didn’t find out that it could be done at the same meeting until the lawyer was consulted.

  8. nightcrawler says:

The men and women of law enforcement need to be supported by elected officials and the GOP in general. If not us, who else will stand up and speak for their daily sacrifice and courage ? From an outsider point of view, it seems to me that the young and outspoken chairman who clearly has libertarian leanings could have been a bit more measured in his public comments. Taking one specific incident and expanding it into a concept of “a police state” was over the top and reckless, a clear insult to the individuals among else who give so much often times without praise or financial gain. All people have opinions, some more popular than others. The Chairman and the Executive committee are elected by their peers to represent the majority opinion of the PCs who vote for them. Does this always translate into a seamless “party line” in public forums, of course not, humans are not perfect and do at times, err. Brian Miller should publically apologize for using his position to speak on a matter not representative of the view of PCs that asked him to speak on their behalf. All he to do in the future is to preface a comment by saying “In my personal opinion…”

The question at hand is does this behavior raise to the level of removal ? Will the public flogging and ouster of a young and talented Chairman (who don’t grow on trees by the way) give pause to other young folks from getting involved in the party ? My guess in yes..

Shane is right, you will all need to live with one another going forward. Sometimes the cure is worse than the ailment.

    • Steve Calabrese says:

Concur. I have been told that “the EGC has said that they will absolutely refuse to work with Miller if he is not removed”, which indicates to me that ego and grandstanding is once again fracturing unity.

  9. catsclaw says:

Now since it is over and Brian Miller has been removed from his position let’s hope that everyone can get together and do the work needed. I agree with Mr. Goss, it is a bad situation and from what I’ve heard and observed there is plenty of blame to go around on both sides. Now we need to concentrate on races that need to be won, 2012 is just around the corner.

  10. Ken Moyes says:

Let’s be clear hear. Mr. Miller was voted out by 80% (yes 80% – does that send a message about his performance) of the attending or proxied precinct committman, elected under the Arizona Revised Statutes.

Mr. Miller was not acting in the best interests of the Pima County GOP. He was taking multiple and different public positions on behalf of the party – positions are the province of elected representatives of the GOP and GOP candidates, not the chair. Fund raising was down dramatically, and party derision was up. He was spending money, large sums, without the required approval of the executive committee, not only a bylaw issue, but potentially a legal misappropriation of funds issue. Mr. Miller flatly refused to comply with the role of the party chairman on multiple occassions, thus he was voted out. Simply put, regardless of a very supportive, apparently ill-informed, but small possee he was a disaster as a party chairman.

His speech, Friday night, to the assembled elected PC’s prior to the vote to remove was an attempt at verbal suicide. He expressed no intention of performing the job as chair, following the bylaws, or raising money to get candidates elected – just what he had been elected to do. Instead he talked to the assembled as if they were not concerned about the nation, freedom, and individual liberty. He evidently feels, along with his fervent small band of followers, that he owns the franchise on these three important symbols of what this country should be. He showed nothing but contempt for the assembled PC’s. This was not a big government Republican conspiracy as Mr. Miller has been quoted, this was not a RINO thing as his followers keep saying.

A very large percentage attending were and are conservative, limited government, freedom and individual loving Republicans – what he purports to be. His small band of supporters have been great at providing disinformation to protect a man who simply was a disaster at his post.

This is why he was voted out. I know I was there.
