Pima GOP Statement Regarding Brian Miller

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, July 5, 2011
CONTACT: Pima County Republican Party

The role of the Republican Party is clear:  to elect candidates and support those candidates once elected. The recent statements and actions of Chairman Brian Miller have not served to further those goals, but rather the opposite. Mr. Miller’s statements regarding the SWAT raid have created serious problems for our elected officials, money raising efforts and have divided the Party.  Mr. Miller was given repeated opportunities to either mend these fences or resign his position, and has chosen to do neither.  Instead, he has continued to make controversial statements to the press.

As is the case with any organized governing body, no elected officer should be off in their own direction.  This is especially important for the Chairman position.  When the leader of an organization speaks for himself instead of the body that he was elected to, then division and chaos are the result.  That is an unacceptable position for any organized body to be in and yet that is where the Pima GOP finds itself today.

Furthermore, in recent days serious questions have been raised as to the use of Party funds under Mr. Miller’s leadership. Mr. Miller has contracted for thousands of dollars of spending without proper Executive Committee oversight or approval which is in violation of the Committee bylaws.

In light of these concerns, the Pima GOP Executive Committee has chosen to strip Mr. Miller of his authority as Chairman.  The Precinct Committeemen of Pima County have called a special meeting and we will be convening as soon as possible to vote on a bylaws change.  If that passes the PCs will decide whether they wish to remove Mr. Miller from the board.

  1. Oberserve says:

Where in the BYLAWS does it give the Exec Comm the authority to do what they describe here?

What the exec comm has done is usurped the will of the PCs of Pima County. If the PCs decide to do what’s described here, they can, because it’s THEIR party, not the Executive Committee’s.

The Executive Committee claims to respect bylaws, but they violated them, disenfranchising the Republican PCs of Pima County no less than they claims Brian Miller did.

It’s dirty down there in Pima County and the establishment (read McCainiacs) have pulled out all the stops to defeat the grassroots.

Must be pretty fragile unity if that’s all it took.

  3. “The role of the Republican Party is clear: to elect candidates and support those candidates once elected.”

How is that working out for the elected Chairman?

  4. Irony101 says:

It takes a special kind of person to write a PR like this without realizing that they are guilty of the exact thing they are accusing Miller of.

  5. Pragmatic Conservative says:

If you are a Ron Paul Libertarian Miller is your spokes person. If you believe in Ron Paul social value’s Miller is your spokes person. If you wish your Party Chair to speak from a position of ignorance to further his own agenda and lose votes for candidates and elected officials Miller is your Man.

If you want to lose the election to Obama in 2012 because your party chair decided divisive social issues are more important than elections Miller is your man.

    • Oberserve says:

So, the majority of Pima County PCs who elected him are Ron Paul supporters?

      Analysis:
Option a) assuming what you are saying its true, then, according to you, Brian Miller would be an appropriate choice and chairman, as the majority of the PCs who elected him reflect the same beliefs

Option b) whether or not the majority of PCs who elected him are Ron Paul supporters, a majority elected Brian Miller and, therefore, felt that he represents them

Who are you Ms. “Pragmatic Conservative” to usurp the will of the majority of elected PCs? God?

(I can answer that question! You are a low-down, dirty McCainiac, who are trying to name-call to try to regain control and keep the Pima County GOP in the dark ages of McCain and his satellites of influence!)

  6. Pragmatic Conservative says:

    Observe,
Over 66% of the voters in Arizona voted for John McCain. Your point is? If we use your logic you are going against the will of the voters in Arizona.

If you wish to support the Ron Paul social agenda you have every right. According to election results about 95% of Republicans do not agree with you.

    • Oberserve says:

Hi, Ms. “Pragmatic Conservative”, I’m a Republican and care about the Republican Party’s goals, not independents and Democrats who voted for McCain, unlike you.

Let’s keep this fair and balanced as much as possible…

    Pledge to Support Brian Miller

On May 30, in the wake of the violent SWAT raid which claimed the young life of Jose Guerena in front of his family, our Pima County GOP Chairman, Brian Miller, publically asked for renewed discussions of both SWAT policy and the civil liberties codified in our Bill of Rights.

In an effort to placate the local police unions, the local big government Republican power structure has launched an aggressive smear campaign to muzzle Brian Miller.

In the month after Chairman Miller had the audacity to advocate the very conservative principle of citizen oversight of government, the Pima County Republican Party Executive Committee has devolved into a mob mentality. They’ve now taken his keys to the building, actually changed the locks on the doors and have set a special meeting to fabricate new rules to kick him out of office!

This special meeting will happen before the end of July!

These people are bullies and the only way you deal with a bully is to stand up and show them you won’t be bullied. You neutralize them.

Will you courageously stand with Brian Miller who consistently advocates limited, constitutional government and individual rights?

These party-first lemmings have been hard at work trying to cripple Brian’s effective fund raising. They have had some success. They wish to use the drop in funding to complete the lynching at the upcoming special meeting. The solution to this is simple: we the people must fill in the gap.

  8. Hunter says:

The proper role of the Republican Party is to advance the political agenda of Republican voters as expressed in the party platform. It does this by engaging in political activity to help elect Republicans to office who will support Republican Party principles. It should also do this by holding those elected officials accountable on behalf of Republican voters to ensure they either support the platform or at least explain where they deviate from the platform and why. It is likely that many good Republicans will disagree with some plank or another of the platform. As long as elected officials and candidates are clear about that, Republican voters can make well informed decisions when voting.

Unless it is a Republican value that police be militarized (with SWAT Teams) and should be allowed to kill citizens in poorly executed raids without facing a serious investigation, then Brian Miller’s calls for an investigation and concerns about this raid seem well within the bounds of legitimacy for a Republican Party leader.

I don’t know enough details about this particular situation, but, based on the types of accusations and their source, it looks like this is just an excuse for “establishment” Republicans to remove a grassroots Republican leader. Similar smear campaigns and undermining of fund raising activities were done to Randy Pullen when he was the State Party Chairman. This looks very similar.

I don’t know how old you are or how long you’ve lived in Arizona but this is no different than what happened to Evan Meacham. The only thing he was guilty of was defending the Constitution of the State of Arizona. Not only was he run out of office by his own party (John McCain and Jim Kolbe both threw him under the bus to save their standing in the party. I hope Terri Proud reads this) , the AZGOP had no problem ignoring the laws of the state to do so. His career was ruined, his car dealership bombed and his home broken into while his wife was there.
I can’t see any difference in what the executive committee is doing to Brian. The executive committee is going to change the by-laws RETROACTIVELY? Wasn’t it the GOP that screamed about the unconstitutionality of retroactive legislation put forth by Obama and Clinton?
The Pima County GOP has to get rid of Brian because he will never talk out of both sides of his mouth like the Executive Committee does daily.
As long as the ‘establishment’ runs the party, we will constantly be faced with the McCains, Prouds and Melvins.

The Central Committee are the ones that are “going off in their own direction” Please take the time to look at this video and make your own decision. This is just one of many things that will be released. :)

AHHH, the most addictive drug of all…POWER. If necessary, once an individual gets a good taste of it, it is the hardest of all addictions to kick. Addicted people will lie, steal, even kill, for their fix.

I see there are a few of you who succumb to its evil seduction. On the other hand there are also a FEW people who are so well grounded in their own strong ability to be on the right side of what is honest, responsible and good, they see through to the heart of this evil motivational factor. I always like to meet you here. Thank you.
