Fake Republican Hispanic group tries and fails to use LDS Church doctrine against Pearce
Brings in LDS leftist attorney to speak who makes statements that contradict Mormon doctrine

You can find self-haters in any religion, and DeeDee Blase, the radical hispanic left wing activist whose work mainly consists of issuing press releases about herself and bashing Republicans, has found one. She held a meeting this week featuring a Mormon attorney, Daryl Williams, who proceeded to bash Senate President Russell Pearce to the audience. He claimed that Pearce, who is also Mormon, was going against the tenets of Mormonism by cracking down on illegal immigration. He said,

“I don’t believe you can be a good Mormon and hate illegal immigrants and want to deport them and break up families and leave children without their parents here. I don’t believe you can be a good Mormon and be a nativist.”
Really? He conveniently ignored the Mormons’ 12th Article of Faith, which is considered doctrine. It says:

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
Williams said his stake president called him up and asked him not to speak to the meeting. Williams’ response? “I told my stake president to take a hike.” Williams is a high councilman in his stake in Paradise Valley. As such, he should be obeying his priesthood leader. He is going against church leadership, going rogue by going over to Mesa and using the church to attack Pearce.

Williams is clearly a self-serving individual who doesn’t respect the LDS church. As such, his criticism of Senator Pearce does not represent LDS thought and he should stop claiming to represent the LDS church. It is insulting.

Rep Schweikert Votes Against FY2011 Continuing Resolution

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 14, 2011
CONTACT: Rachel Semmel

Washington, D.C. – Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) issued the following statement today after voting against H.R. 1473, a short-term continuing resolution funding the federal government through the end of FY2011:

“These $39 billion in spending cuts do not bring us close enough to the fiscal responsibility we need to get our economy back on the path to prosperity.

“We have a duty to be unwavering in our commitment to get Washington back on the right track, but today’s bill does not go far enough in doing that. This is the first continuing resolution brought to the House floor this year that does not achieve the $100 billion level of spending reductions that Republicans had pledged.

“I applaud the Republican leadership for forcing the president to the table during this debate. We must continue to change the conversation in Washington from raising taxes and growing government to limiting government and preserving economic freedom.

“House Republicans know we must keep up the fight to cut spending at the scale we need. We can do better and we must do better.”

Cuts Don’t Run Deep Enough

Washington, D.C. , Apr 14 – Republican Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents Arizona’s Sixth District, today voted against the full-year fiscal year 2011 continuing resolution.

“Simply put, the cuts in this bill don’t go deep enough to begin to get us on the right fiscal course,” said Flake. “As President Obama conceded yesterday, the fiscal crisis facing the country is serious. Unfortunately for taxpayers, this bill doesn’t reflect the seriousness of the problem.”

Rep. Quayle Votes “No” on FY 2011 Continuing Resolution

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 14, 2011
CONTACT: Richard Cullen

WASHINGTON (D.C) Congressman Ben Quayle (R-AZ) released the following statement Thursday after casting a no vote on H.R. 1473, a bill that would fund the federal government for the remainder of the current fiscal year:

“Without question, the Republican Majority in the House has brought about a fundamental shift in the dialogue coming out of Washington. Since Members of the 112th Congress took the oath of office, the crux of our debates has been about saving money rather than spending it. Speaker Boehner and the Republican House leadership should be commended for shifting the debate. However, I do not believe this funding agreement goes far enough to reduce our debt. My constituents sent me to Washington to rein in spending and create jobs. We need to make serious reductions and reforms to ensure that future generations of Americans have the same opportunities that past generations have enjoyed.”

Politicians go on “jobs poaching expeditions”

by Stephen Slivinski
Goldwater Institute

Politicians often fixate on the immediate bump in job growth they want to generate by dangling taxpayer money in front of a corporation, in the hope that it will entice the company managers to relocate the firm and all its jobs. It’s an all too common sight in politics today.

But what about the investments, like more buildings or new equipment, the private sector never makes because taxes are kept high on other businesses to pay for these corporate welfare programs? Or the jobs local businesses lose when they have to close their doors because government policies favor their competitor? Those foregone investment opportunities and the absence of true competition are the biggest costs of public investment schemes, although they don’t show up on paper.

Some policymakers, thankfully, recognize these costs. Mark Funkhouser, mayor of Kansas City, Missouri, was interviewed recently by the New York Times and described the practice of handing out subsidies as a “jobs poaching expedition” that doesn’t create any new job growth overall. He explained, “What politicians are doing is creating the illusion that they are creating jobs by short-term fixes that actually weaken the region’s ability to compete.”

We need to base policy on an appreciation for the unseen costs of jobs poaching. The Legislature should repeal policies that favor some businesses over others, and avoid the creation of new spending programs and tax laws that reinforce such favoritism. Then, policymakers should adopt fundamental tax reform that couples low, uniform tax rates with a broad tax base as the best way to generate healthy economic competition that creates jobs and wealth for all Arizonans.

Rep. Quayle Statement on President Obama’s Debt Speech

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 13, 2011
CONTACT: Richard Cullen

WASHINGTON (D.C.) Congressman Ben Quayle (R-AZ) released the following statement Wednesday following President Obama speech on America’s debt:

“While I’m pleased to see President Obama following the lead of Chairman Ryan and House Republicans in recognizing the necessity of tackling America’s enormous debt burden, I was befuddled by the fact that his speech largely avoided any mention of the biggest drivers of our debt. Any deficit reduction plan that does not feature ways to save Medicare and Medicaid cannot be considered a credible plan. If we don’t save these critical programs now, America will face a paralyzing debt crisis in short order.

“The president’s speech today was an attempt at a mulligan for the unacceptable budget he released two months ago. This time around, the president whiffed yet again by failing to address the issues central to getting America back on sound financial footing. Job crushing taxes is not going to get the job done. We must face our fiscal challenges head on, and House Republicans are doing that.”

The Fiesta Bowl exposes the sham of Clean Elections

by Nick Dranias
Goldwater Institute

The Fiesta Bowl investigation is exposing the fact that taxpayer funding for political candidates under Arizona’s Clean Elections system does not, in fact, keep politicians clean. Nearly half of the state legislators receiving allegedly illegal contributions and previously undisclosed junkets from the Fiesta Bowl ran for office with Clean Elections funds. Arizona’s campaign finance system has nothing to do with preventing the appearance of impropriety and everything to do with funneling taxpayer dollars to politicians.

Indeed, Arizona’s system is easily gamed to allow politicians to evade campaign finance regulations on a scale unmatched by any alleged Fiesta Bowl player. During the 2008 race for three seats on the Arizona Corporation Commission, Sam George, a privately-financed candidate, ran on a “Solar Team” slate with two taxpayer-funded candidates, Paul Newman and Sandra Kennedy. As part of a coordinated campaign, Sam George spent nearly $500,000 on his campaign to trigger nearly $1 million in matching taxpayer subsidies to teammates Newman and Kennedy. Mr. George essentially leveraged Clean Elections to give hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer money to his preferred candidates.

Sam George-style gaming is not an anomaly. Ever since the enactment of the Citizens Clean Elections Act, taxpayer-funded candidates have been routinely accused of teaming with privately financed candidates, accepting illegal in-kind contributions, violating contribution limits, and even committing perjury. The reported shenanigans of the Fiesta Bowl are small potatoes compared to the systematic campaign finance abuse enabled by the Clean Elections system. Hopefully, the U.S. Supreme Court will finally end Arizona’s failed experiment in taxpayer-funded campaigns when it issues its decision in McComish v. Bennett and Arizona Freedom Club PAC v. Bennett by the end of June.

Representative Schweikert on President Obama’s ‘New Budget’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 12, 2011
CONTACT: Rachel Semmel

Washington, D.C. – Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ), Vice Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises appeared on Fox News’ Cavuto to discuss the president’s budget speech Wednesday. Here is the video and excerpts from the interview:

YouTube Preview Image

SCHWEIKERT ON TAX INCREASES TO BE PROPOSED IN OBAMA’S ‘NEW’ BUDGET

“Well, horrible idea. Particularly if you are trying to trade jobs and economic growth. But isn’t this stunning? Think of this, a month after the president sent us his budget, is he about to repudiate what he gave us and say ‘Oh, I want to join the gang that’s now going to start working on entitlements?’ It’s an amazing turn of events if you think about it.”

***

“We know from his 2012 budget proposal there were 43 new taxes or increased hikes in taxes. And none of them have not been dynamically scored so they claim they’re going to get another trillion and a half dollars over ten years in revenues. Without it being dynamically scored, I’d love to find out how many jobs, how many small businesses, how much economic growth he’s going to destroy by once again engaging in this class warfare.”

SCHWEIKERT ON CBO SCORING OF THE BUDGET

“One of the things that surprised me most in my now 100 some days in Congress, is when you get numbers from the Congressional Budget Office, they don’t put them through dynamic scoring model. Everything you and I know about the velocity of money and creating that multiplier effect doesn’t exist in the numbers we get from our own budget folks.”

***

“Think about what is in the Ryan proposal, lowering marginal rates, but broadening it out. We already know from the president’s own debt commission, the discussion of doing those things that are necessary to create economic growth.”

SCHWEIKERT ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S ‘NEW’ BUDGET

“A part of me puts my cynicism hat on. What I often see with a lot of the politicians, what they care most about is re-election. Does he believe he now has to stand up, look like he’s a budget cutter, that he cares about saving the entitlement systems by rebuilding them? How much of this is theater and how much of this is also the messages we’re getting from the markets saying, ‘you know the markets aren’t going to tolerate us continuing to grow the debt in this fashion.’”

An outstanding week of success for school choice

by Clint Bolick
Goldwater Institute

Last week may have been the school-choice movement’s best effort in a long time, with Arizona leading the way for systemic education reform and expanded opportunities.

Monday the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the latest challenge to Arizona’s tuition scholarship tax-credit program, which provides dollar-for-dollar tax credits for contributions to private school scholarships. Following the reasoning of the Arizona Supreme Court, the high court ruled that because tax credits leave money in the hands of taxpayers, they never become public funds. As a result, under federal law, taxpayers do not have standing to challenge the program.

Later in the week, the Arizona Legislature increased the amount of the tax credit for the scholarship program from $1,000 to $1,500 per couple.

Then on Thursday, the Arizona Legislature became the first in the country to approve education savings accounts, an idea born at the Goldwater Institute. When eligible students leave public schools, the state will fund an account with a portion of the dollars that would have been spent on their public education. Money in an ESA can be used for many educational purposes, from distance learning to private school tuition, curriculum software, or tutoring. Any money left over can be used for college after a student graduates from high school. ESAs reduce taxpayer costs while increasing schooling options.

The initial pilot is limited to children with disabilities, who lost their voucher program in 2009 when the Arizona Supreme Court struck it down under the state constitution. This program is designed to comply with the Court’s ruling in that case.

ESAs have the potential to create a truly 21st century system of public education, in which every child is empowered to pursue the best possible schooling without stifling and costly bureaucracy and special-interest pressures. The bill creating the pilot program now awaits action from Governor Jan Brewer.

Finally, amidst the contentious federal budget deal just before midnight D.C.-time, Congress reauthorized the District of Columbia school voucher program, whose expansion congressional Democrats had previously halted. Now the Obamas will no longer be the only people in D.C. who live in public housing who get to send their kids to private school.

The Goldwater Institute will continue to pioneer such student-centered education reforms, while celebrating unprecedented success.

Clint Bolick is director of the Goldwater Institute’s Scharf-Norton Center for Constitutional Litigation.

Will Gov. Jan Brewer stand up to the crony capitalists?

URGENT ACTION ITEM BELOW

To all Arizona Taxpayers:

Thanks to your efforts during the past few days, House Rules Committee chairman Rep. Jerry Weiers has agreed to put Senate Bill 1322, the municipal managed competition reform bill, on the Rules calendar. (Now that Weiers is on board, you can stop clogging his blackberry with emails…) And it looks like we may already have enough votes to get the bill out of the House of Representatives.

After that, the bill will probably go to the desk of Governor Jan Brewer. Gov. Brewer has some good policy people in her office, and she sometimes shows great courage (as she did last week by signing the balanced budget produced by the legislative majority), but she is under intense pressure from government-worker unions and from business lobbyists to kill the reform.

We all understand why the government-worker unions would oppose competitive bidding: They do not want to compete on a level playing field with private enterprise to provide city services. But why would business interests oppose a transparent and competitive bidding process for city services? Very simple: Many of the businesses that have lobbyists down at the Arizona Capitol are crony capitalists. They have sweetheart contracts with city governments and other governments that were not awarded under a truly open, competitive bidding process. If SB 1322 passes, the crony capitalists in Phoenix and Tucson will not be able to rely on cozy political relationships and campaign contributions to win contracts. To quote the actual language of SB 1322, the crony capitalists will be forced to compete to provide services at the “highest quality, lowest cost and most reliable performance.”

Gov. Brewer needs your help to stand firm against the corporate-welfare lobbyists. To understand the kind of pressures Gov. Brewer faces, read the first few paragraphs of the latest column on the Fiesta Bowl scandal by Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts: http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/LaurieRoberts/124401

Here are Two Important Action Items on SB 1322:

1) Call and email Gov. Jan Brewer and tell her to stand firm against the crony capitalists and the government-worker unions. Tell her you are a taxpayer and you want to see city governments become more efficient. Be sure to put the phrase “Gov. Brewer, please support SB 1322” in the subject line and in the body of your email. The phone number for Gov. Brewer is (602) 542-4331 and her email contact page is http://www.azgovernor.gov/Contact.asp

For an editable, pre-written email (please change the subject line to say “Gov. Brewer, please support SB 1322”), you can go to this page and scroll down: http://tinyurl.com/azfumble

2) Be sure to come to the Feet to the Fire Tea Party at the Arizona Capitol on Friday evening, April 15, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Our Legislators and our Governor spend far too much time at the Capitol, listening to lobbyists. Your physical presence at the Capitol on April 15 will help to remind our elected officials that there really are taxpayers out there, and that taxpayers want them to stand firm against the government-worker unions and the corporate-welfare lobbyists. Event details are posted here: http://www.aztaxpayers.org

More Information about SB 1322

The lobbyists from city hall are putting out a lot of misinformation about Senate Bill 1322, which would require Arizona cities with populations of 500,000 or more (Phoenix and Tucson) to open up city services to competition from the private sector. Unfortunately, too few Legislators have actually read the bill, so we have put together a fact sheet exposing some of the false claims that have been made about the reform:

Fundraiser in Support of Wounded Phoenix Warrior Joshua Bullis

Fraternal Order of Police to Hold April 15th Event

(PHOENIX, Ariz.) – In September 2010 Army Private First Class Joshua Bullis, a graduate of Goldwater High School in Phoenix, lost both legs above the knees and one arm above the elbow after he was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device while serving his country in Afghanistan.

Josh’s family is keenly aware of service and sacrifice. His parents, “Bub” Bullis and Karen Freund-Bullis are both Phoenix Police Officers. The Bullis family is getting support from their extended family in law enforcement and they could use your help.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #2 is holding a fundraiser for this wounded warrior, including an all-you-can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with raffle prizes and music on April 15th from 6am to 9pm at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge at 12851 North 19th Avenue (between Cactus and Thunderbird).

Breakfast ($5.00) includes eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes
Lunch ($10.00) includes burgers, hotdogs and grilled chicken
Dinner ($15.00) includes spaghetti and homemade meat sauce

All of the proceeds will benefit Private Bullis whose lifetime of a road to recovery is just beginning. Josh is at a military hospital in San Diego; however he plans to be in Phoenix to attend this special event.

Josh’s parents are Officers Karen and Bub Bullis, “Six months ago we received a phone call that would change all of our lives forever. We learned that our son, Josh, who was in the Army in Afghanistan, was now a triple amputee. We worried that losing two legs and an arm might be more than he could handle. Little did we realize just how far he would progress in six, short months. He is mastering the art of walking on prosthetic legs and using a prosthetic arm, in addition to learning to drive again. He has been an inspiration to multitudes of people and harbors no ill will towards the Army, the war, or his injuries. He knew this was a possibility when he joined the Army and he has no regrets. We would all like to thank everyone for their prayers, kind thoughts, and ongoing support in Josh’ journey to becoming independent and self-sufficient. “

For more information on the fundraiser visit the event’s Facebook Page.

For those who cannot make it to the fundraiser, donations are being accepted. Checks can be made payable to FOP2 Foundation Inc. with Joshua Bullis in memo section and mailed to the attention of Officer Dave Hopkins at:

Legal minds question Arizona Republic’s campaign activities

A m e r i c a n  P o s t – G a z e t t e
Distributed by C O M M O N  S E N S E , in Arizona
Sunday, April 10, 2011

Just another subsidiary of the Democrat Party

Lawyers: Arizona Republic may be violating campaign finance laws and facilitating criminal activity

Recent trend towards scrutinizing media outlets for illegal campaign activity

Wonder why you’re getting news like this from us, instead of the Arizona Republic? Because it’s gotten so bad at reporting news there is little coming out of it but Democrat Party type of coverage. We received an email from an attorney who told us that a group of attorneys he is part of is investigating the Arizona Republic for multiple campaign finance violations. Here is the email:

We have been noticing that the Arizona Republic is increasingly morphing into a wing of the Democratic Party, so much that many of its articles merely seem to be repeats of Democrat talking points. For too long, the paper has hidden behind an exception in Arizona law shielding media from campaign finance laws (ARS 16-901.8.A) This law states that campaign expenditures do not include newspaper articles.

But if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it’s a duck! This is analogous to a criminal saying he wasn’t really stealing, he was just “borrowing,” so we’re expected to believe him.

Several of us have started meeting together to discuss how to deal with this problem. The Arizona Republic doesn’t serve the people of Arizona like it pretends, it serves the Democrat Party and should be required to comply with campaign finance laws. The Republic is creating news, not reporting news. We remember seeing a tweet from a Republic reporter fishing for people who had been booted off the welfare rolls. They were trying to gin up a story about how sad it was that the legislature was reducing welfare benefits.

Other media outlets are finally being investigated for this kind of unethical behavior. Earlier this year, the Maine Ethics Commission looked into allegations that the Portland Press Herald violated campaign finance laws by using $47,000 in donated advertising space for a political campaign. That donation probably played a decisive factor in the results of the election.

The FEC has started cracking down on news media outlets for electioneering. A couple of months ago, the FEC barely voted to exempt Sean Hannity from an elections complaint. Just a few months prior to that, a vote like that would have unanimously exonerated him.

The Arizona Republic has spent years propping up corrupt politicians like the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. The level of corruption at that county agency is so vast that we believe there may even be criminal complicity on the part of the Arizona Republic and in particular one of its reporters, Yvonne Wingett. The Republic’s behavior may rise to the level of criminal facilitation, which can range from a misdemeanor to a Class 5 felony depending on the seriousness of the offense they are helping cover up. ARS 13-1004.

Now the paper is under investigation over its publisher and CEO’s role in the Fiesta Bowl scandal. That may also rise to the level of criminal facilitation, since the Republic is deliberately omitting any coverage of his role in the scandal.

Momentum has been building in recent years to investigate the Arizona Republic over these kinds of violations. The legislature is expected to take up legislation next year to fix this.

The Republic’s coverage of partisan issues and candidates has been so biased it has clearly crossed ethical lines. We expect to do something about it, before the newspaper is able to dictate any more election results. It does not represent our community, it represents the Democrat Party and far left interests, and should be treated as such. If political organizations and candidates must comply with election laws in order to exercise their free speech rights, then they should not be allowed to hide behind the guise of a “newspaper” to skirt those laws. We will keep you updated when we take action with our investigation.

Commander-In-Chief Belshazzar Obama Undermines America’s Fighting Forces

Governor Sarah Palin just articulated a MAJOR GLOBAL SECURITY ISSUE that no one else has raised, yet should have:  Barack Obama publically announcing he won’t pay our troops in order to hold them hostage to keep  Republicans from repairing the national damage from the last Congress’s horrific spending spree that has exploded our national debt.   The internationally dispersed announcement that the President of the United States of America cares so little about  American soldiers as they fight on the front lines-   that Obama will stonewall in order that our soldiers suffer to protect a partisan Democrat Party political  agenda  – will EMBOLDEN our enemies AGAINST our troops while this despicable announcement  DEMORALIZES our men in women as they serve far from our comforts in foreign theatres of war against a vicious enemy that declares its goal is to annihilate not only America, but Western Civilization itself.

Obama and the Democrats have made no secret of their desire to “bring our troops home,” not just from a single arena, but as a stunning shift in geopolitical vision – to abandon over two hundred years of successful, informed, active and liberating American presence internationally.  At the birth of America, the isolationist vision now re-marketed by the Democrats prevailed, until Americans were attacked, again and again by foreign nations at our shores, our merchant shipping,  Americans killed, captured, enslaved, economic losses in the millions.  After hard losses, death and destruction, our military was retooled and built  for realism – and projecting of our forces to the sources of aggression, not waiting until war arrives at our shores.  It would be playing with a treacherous betrayal of our national security to strangle our troops to manufacture a pretext for abandoning centuries of a highly successful traditional military strategic operational structure.

This is DEVASTATING. Obama as POTUS and Commander-In-Chief is SCREWING the troops who are under his authority – our ENEMIES LOVE IT.  They CAN’T BELIEVE their good luck!  What other president on the planet would do that?   Perhaps American-murdering terrorist Ghaddafi ‘s calls to his “brother Obama” have PAID off!!   Can we now also question the sleazy sincerity of the Democrats, who have assured us for years that poor Blacks, Hispanics and uneducated  Whites make up a disproportionate percentage of our military, and Obama now won’t pay them if he doesn’t get his way, blatently hurting minorities in disproportionate numbers?  If their wailing rhetoric was true and Democrats actually cared, they wouldn’t even consider this sort of nasty, racist by their own words,  political brinkmanship, but they are not distancing themselves from this raw brutality against American citizens who count on their payslips to support themselves, their families, to  pay their bills.

Obama will have a very nice dinner tonight, no, not just nice, but exquisite – the best other people’s money can buy – as he has had every night he’s been POTUS,  banqueting like Belshazzar before the Persian conquest.  Obama seems to have a taste for the finer cuisine, at taxpayer expense, consuming as a glutton, entertained by some of the very same A-List celebrities whom the terrorist oil-rich Ghaddafi family paid $2 to $3 million per performance,  while troops under his authority eat cold, dry MREs and sleep on the dirt.  Now Obama and his political party, the Democrats, announce their shared priorities are protecting  the likes of special interest death industry Planned Parenthood, not the Constitutional “provide for the common defense.”

Sarah Palin CAUGHT IT.   Where are the other voices?  This goes beyond political parties.  All Americans should be united in disgust and with condemnation for this dangerous rhetoric and path Obama seems so careless to lead us all down as he ratchets up the mortal danger aligned against our troops.  Our troops don’t get paid, Obama don’t get paid.   Even the rhetoric alone – examined carefully by our enemies – deserves aggressive rebuke.  How does a commander eat while he denies his troops their food?  This sort of egotistical selfishness is routinely condemned in the military as a grotesque failure of leadership, and the cost of feeding Obama and his friends with luxuries like $100 a pound steaks and $300 a bottle wine  for the past two years at the White House  with live performances by Paul McCartney and Beyonce to name only two of many entertainers,  dwarfs the expense of feeding entire platoons during the very same time period.   Now, multimillionaire Obama’s openly stating he intends to block payment of services rendered by our troops, putting their families, their mortgages, their credit ratings, everything they need to function in our society AND and their lives at risk as our enemies assemble to attack.   Obama’s  fitness for such an important job as Commander -In-Chief  is now in question – a terrible thing thing to for citizens to have to consider.
