A single vote seals the deal

Tom Morrissey is elected Chairman of AZ GOP by wide margin

Jimmy Stewart could not have outdone the grassroots in Saturday’s Arizona GOP party election. In the famous 1939 movie, “Mr. Smith goes to Washington”, Stuart played the part of every man – one of us – a hard working, play by the rules guy who got elected to Congress and upset the establishment by being honest and outspoken in a plain, folksy style.
Just as in the film, our real life opposition candidates are part of the establishment elite, endorsed by the ruling class of Washington, and firmly rooted in the top-down structure favored by the purveyors of the big tent theory and tacit, open border ideology. They were eloquent and polished. Morrissey was direct and folksy, but his down to earth message resonated with the swelling ranks of increasingly sophisticated people, many from the strengthening Tea Party movement. They know the code words and voted accordingly.
Sometimes real life trumps fiction. When the original conservative candidate, Bruce Ash, had to step down for reasons of health, the Tea Party and grassroots were left with nobody to represent them. Tom Morrissey agreed to run, but had only 72 hours to put together a campaign and implement it.
Not only did Morrissey win, he took the first position with increasing margins during each successive ballot. The third time around, Morrissey won as he topped the minimum vote-threshold by a single vote. His nearest competitor trailed far behind, nowhere close to the minimum number of votes required to take the chairmanship. Were it not for that one vote, the state meeting would have been thrown into yet another round of voting, but that solitary vote saved the day.
There is a lesson in all this. We the people have to stay energized and engaged in the politics of our nation. There is nothing less to lose than liberty itself if we fail, and failure is not an option. We owe it to the Founding Fathers and all those who have fallen in battle fighting to preserve our freedom. Fight we must and fight we shall until our ship of state is once more upright with all sails unfurled, sailing at flank speed. The Tea Party has risen to the cause and will lead us forward into the bright sunshine of tomorrow. We thank you.
God bless America.

  1. I still want an explanation for how Lisa James was illegally appointed to State Committeeman in LD20 under his watch to run against Randy Pullen.

  2. A squadron of black helicopters landed in Ahwatukee and little green men with tin-foil hats zappeed the LD-20 credentials committee. They were suspended in hyper-consciouness where their observations were projected to a fourth dimension. In the distraction droids were brought in to alter County Assessor address records. Now we are all forced to pay homage to the real boogey-man, State Chairman Tom Morrissey.

Follow or get out of the way.

  3. Hamilcarbarca says:

Now,people, stop saying there will be no money from the RNC coming to AZ. I am tired of these negative comments that are already flooding the Internet. We don’t want these irresponsible words to become a fulfilling prophecy. So, if you don’t have anything encouraging to say to the new chairman, please remain silent. In the mean time, give, help, work for the Party, please.

  4. Donna Alu, LD 26 Chair says:

Conratulations to our new Chairman. Hopefully, we will all get over ourselves, and that includes our congressional delegation and senators, and work together for the good of our state and our country.

When they read the lyrics of John Lennon’s “Imagine” at the Democratic State Convention, we know that there is no one dedicated to preserving our freedoms or our COUNTRY on that side so WE ARE IT!! Let’s stick together!!!

  5. As usual, the Pullen/Haney/Morrisey crowd’s advise to everyone not praising or following them: Shut up or get out!

    Do you even hear yourselves?

Writing that there will be fewer donors and therefore less money is an opinion. Why do people with this opinion need to “be silent”? Afterall, some of them are the donors who will not be donating now. Others are simply looking at the facts and the bottom line as reported to the assembled PCs.

Still others, like me, have been treated personally to dirty tricks, violent talk and personal vendettas from the Pullen/Haney/Morrisey crowd.

Shall we all “be silent” while the funds dry up, the doors close and the building falls apart?

Should the majority of us who have served our state with honor and choose to support all of our Republican leaders gag ourselves while newcomers with agendas other than building the Republican Party and it’s principles destroy it?

Shall I “just go away” and let people who only woke up to politics a few years ago and don’t know what they’re doing ruin a very honorable legacy of Republicanism in Arizona?

I don’t have to be silent. I will not be silent. And you can wave your personal agenda flags, wear your ridiculous buttons and scream all day long underneath placards, but I won’t stop.

  6. Donna Alu, LD 26 Chair says:

Morrissey was not my first choice, but I have always supported the person who wins in our party, moderate or conservative.

Once the ballots are cast, it’s time to come together. Period.

PS You can still talk if you want to ;)

  7. Alicia Gegner says:

    Dear Travis,

I have not heard the same voices you claim to have heard which makes me question whether they emenate from deep within you as opposed to being from external sources.

As a Tea Party pro Pullen, Haney, Morrissey lady, I extend my hand of friendship to you. Do not shut up; do not go away. Just pass Go, collect your $200 and then come back and help us pull together to counter the real adversaries, and in some cases, real enemies of our party and nation.

There are those who would destroy us with glee in their hearts. You can help by not denigrating our amateur attempts at making placards and buttons, but by joining us in common cause, dear Travis. We welcome you.

Not enough money? Help us raise it. If you know how, we need all the help we can get. If not with us, with whom would you work? We have but one country. Let us pull together to put it back together against tho forces who would tear it asunder.

    With love,

    Alicia

  8. Hilarious how after two botched campaigns and a huge ruckus, suddenly everything is right with America because of something called the Tea Party, and now I even hear that my forebears died in battle so that…Tom Morrissey could become AZGOP chairman?

“When the original conservative candidate, Bruce Ash, had to step down for reasons of health, the Tea Party and grassroots were left with nobody to represent them.”

I can’t wrap my head around the fact that non-elite groups still claim they need elites to lead them.

  9. lol @ travis re: #6.

No, travis, you stop complaining and go out and RAISE funds yourself.

    You are the divider!

  10. Donna & Alicia –

What’s funny is that when I see you in person, you are nice to me. It’s only when I post my opinions and oppose nasty rhetoric under another name do I get nasty replies and nasty emails – from Morrisey, Haney, Husband and their minions.

This is why I will not support Morrisey. I will – and always have – supported the Republican Party and conservative candidates. There are MANY ways to support the Republican Party and conservative candidates without donating to the AZGOP or the county. I will not support Haney or Morrisey. Not because of what they beleive – because I agree with them almost entirely on issues. They are not conservative enough on some things for my taste, but I’m OK with that. I will not support them based on their behavior. If you cannot get along with the majority of the Republican delegation – you are not a Republican leader. If you speak against Republicans more than you speak against Democrats, you are not a Republican leader.

As I said, just because you have the keys to the GOP Headquarters, doesn’t mean you’re a Republican leader.

By the way, I have nothing against homemade placards or buttons; it’s the ridiculous statements on some of them that turn me off. I have made and carried my share through the years.

  11. Donna Alu, LD 26 Chair says:

    Travis,

I am not a minion and I have not said anything nasty. Since I’m from southern AZ, I don’t know Haney and Friday evening was my first meeting with Morrissey.

As I said, he wasn’t my first choice, but I always stand behind whoever wins.

You have to do what you think is best and hopefully at some point we can all come together.

  12. Pinal Sam says:

Travis and his friends are three time losers. Pullen in ’07, Pullen in ’09 and Morrissey in 2011. There are some 3,000 empty PC slots in Maricopa County alone. Instead of working to fill those slots with like minded Republicans they would rather sit on their behind and then gripe about the results when they lose. This is the thrid time in six years we have heard exactly this same griping.

If these people are so great at raising money and money wins elections why did they lose…again, again?

Travis and Lisa James can organize a big pitty party and invite every squish in Phoenix to join them. Then, they can plan their gripes after losing in 2013.

  13. Donna Alu, LD 26 Chair says:

OK, Travis ….that was nasty….and that doesn’t help. We Republicans are WINNERS!!

  14. Arizona Ranger says:

    Friends,
Let us congratulate the new Chairman of the Republican Party-Tom Morrissey! He won fair and square and whether you completely back every word or phrase he has ever said, take a step back and think about this event. Here is OUR new Chairman and we need to support him and ALL of the others elected on Saturday. We NEED to do this because we have a Socialist zealot sitting in the White House! We need to do every possible thing we can do as Repbulicans to make sure we continue to have a majority in the House and to get a majority in the Senate. Hopefully we can defeat Obama (“He who has no birth certificate”) in 2012, but we definitely can control both the House and the Senate–IF we work together.
Let us put any/all petty difference aside and start to think of what is the best way to either vote Obama out of office or, at the very least, to make him impotent!! To do either we, the Repbulican Party, really need to come together and to work together-not bicker like children!
If you cannot come together and work together–get out of the way of those that will. That’s right, just shut up and blow away, because WE are going to work together and continue to show the way for the rest of our Country!!
Make no mistake-Hussein Obama is our enemy, he just happens to occupy the White House. He must be neutralized politically and the changes he has become reversed!! That requires cooperation and group work!
Soooo…..enough of your petty comments and personality attacks.
Republicans are now given an opportunity to be focused and work to solve our problems, in a democratic fashion. Let’s us all truly turn to that task and work together!!

  15. You got to be kidding says:

HELLO! There will be no money from the RNC coming to Arizona!!!!! Wishing it were different will not change the outcome–no RNC money for Arizona!!!!!

  16. There Is No RNC money.

  17. “Jimmy Stuart could not have outdone the grassroots in Saturday’s Arizona GOP party election.”

Oh my it’s getting thick in here.

  18. Living My Principles says:

The truth is no Republican won Saturday, No Conservative won Saturday.

The media will empty the skeletons out of Morrissey’s closets and we will all pay the price.

A story was in the Tucson Citizen this morning…wonder who is next?

  19. The Avenger says:

All true Reagan Republicans brace the Tea Party, for it is the only movement that has not threaten to break away, but to take back the party for conservatives. The big tent RINOs crapped all over the gains we made in the 80s and the 1994 Congress and turned it over to Pelosi, Reid and Obama. Now they whine, because they are not in charge anymore.

But something tells me, that some in this forum are not RINOs, but are Leftist Dem agitators! So lets be careful not to feed the trolls.

  20. Avenger,

Your name, your attitude and your ignorance of history are what people are resisting.

I went to the first Tea Party gatherings. I didn’t want a new party – I wanted people to get up and get moving. This is why some of the changes in the 80′s and 90′s didn’t survive – because too many people didn’t help. They expected the leaders to do everything and for themselves to sit and reap the rewards. Now, some of those people have finally decided to do something and want to simply blame the leaders who tried to do something, but didn’t have the support!

If the Tea Party people want to really make a difference, they will accept responsibility for not doing enough until now, ask what they can do to help and THEN hold leaders responsible.

For now, the order is wrong. Too many of the Tea Party people want to simply get up and take charge – and they don’t know what they’re doing! Humble yourselves, do the work you haven’t been doing all these years and then EARN your way into leadership.

Your complaints about the “elite” are mostly the result of the VERY WISE Founding Father’s decision to make this a Democratic REPUBLIC.

Stop all the shouting and fist waving and start admitting you don’t know everything, that our Republican leaders have VERY difficult jobs that most of you couldn’t do and stop following certain people around like sheep.

In other words, stop acting like Democrats and start acting like Republicans.

  21. What a pompous ass.

  22. I will support him.

  23. Jill Arizona says:

How about we all start focusing on who the real political adversaries are? It’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work! The left is organizing and working on their next moves which is what all of us should be focusing on!

Speak Your Mind
